I have the exact changes between Hard and Regicide datamined: Hard mode and Regicide both have 0.8x Player Damage they are the same. Hard mode has 1.5x enemy damage. Regicide is 1.75x enemy damage. Crit damage is set to 3x damage for enemies attacking you. (Not player -> enemy). Weakness damage is 3x damage *ontop of* the original multiplier for enemy attacks on the player. Anxiety is easier to inflict on the player. Retry Disabled. 2x Item Drop rate. Also, level scaling caps out at 16 under the enemy and stats have a very minimal effect in damage calculations. Gear alone hard carries how much things can do. A lot of formulas are similar to Digital Devil Saga if you are familiar with that game.
Big missed opportunity for the regicide difficulty to give access to the king archetype that we see in the final cutscene, even a mention in a new synthesis would've been cool
Maybe a Synthesis like Armageddon's Final Sire, unlocked maybe by 100%ing the Archetypes for ALL companions? Definitely doable on NG+ if you don't want to grind.
This was an excellent video and I hope Atlus adds more content to Metaphor eventually as I want the story to go on as it was so good. I wouldn't even mind a rerelease like with Persona 5 Royal etc.
@@thatguyshaq7053 Normally I'd agree but in this case there's some glaringly cut content in the middle of the game that a re-release could add (thinking the obviously missing Mage Academy dungeon for example) but DLC really wouldn't be able to. Not sure if that's worth it still but I think I'd be less annoyed in this case than I otherwise would be.

If the whole game was like that, just telling you everything you need to know without showing you or letting you find or experience it yourself, it'd be horribly boring. Plus, a dungeon crawl feels very necessary to break up the insane rush of plot twists between 9/11-9/13. Some of that plot *really* needs some room to breathe and a dungeon crawl would've been a great way to do that. Finally, it seems strongly suggested you were supposed to search for More and Akademeia in the Mage Academy and perhaps find the "real" Akademeia in ruins, given the conversations you have with More immediately before and immediately after fighting Rella. It's clear there was supposed to be something that happened in between but whatever it was didn't make it into the full game.
Catherina can be so much a game changer. I had the luck to have her spawn in one of the Trials of the Dragon (on Regicide) and she just removed 1/3 of the dragon health before I even started.
Surprisingly I found all the bosses until the final boss easy on regicide but most of my deaths were just from enemies getting the advantage and running through my whole team before I can fight back
@@soli6026 That is probably the strongest setup for new game + for the vast majority of the game. Gold attack is just too powerful like this, though utilitarian manual on meteophor and peerless stonecleaver are also be very powerful

Currently on my NG+ playthrough of Regicide running a full team of Merchants with the best x3 cost/damage abacus and equipped with Dilligent Discipline, Aim Support and Arcane Unity. I'm steamrolling most fights with just Gold Attack and the Synthesis skill. I haven't even allocated any points to the protag yet and I'm on Virga Island post story dungeon.
Early on, healer is great because you don't have many healing items and some of the enemies are weak to holy. Later in the game, I use healer skills as inheritable on other characters.
@@PoppaCYS healer is never that good unless you are running a magic backline party. Healer has strong light magic, and magic knight heals better with mediline

Give healer the three mage skills and you have a mage that can also heal. Super powerful and versatile imo.

@@dieuwtjinyea i was running magic build on MC for Hard mode and used the Healer line with inherited magic for a good chunk of the game. unlike SMT tho, u really dont end up needing stuff like Medicall or Pen Patra, u can get by with Medica and items even at the endgame. Hama spells were nice for mimics too
Same here, I didn't find that difficolt especially in early game it's actually easier than Hard mode. Eventually when I might feel playing it again I might do Regicide without NG+, that's probably gonna be the hardest version of the game for sure.
honestly the best strat, i feel like, is Prince-Shtrol merchant-Basillio merchant-Heismay royal thief royal thief canceling an enemy's entire turn is beyond broken. merchant/tycoon both have high crit and dont have to worry about resistance making it way more reliable than fishing for crit for royal warrior and royal berserker
Parts of it seem in common with Persona 5 Merciless--weakness multiplier seems way bigger, misses happen more often. However, P5 Merciless went a bit too ham on it to the point where it made most battles _easier,_ since you also did more damage with weakness or technical hits.
Love to see that everyone saw Wanton Destruction and went "oh damn thats broken". Goes especially well with that one accessory that allows a party member to take two turns one after another.
The fact that I ran past all the humans to see what that last boss would be like only to get freaking creamed over and over again… at least I beat the hardest version
My experience with Regicide has been similar to yours, in that it's almost a coin flip. Either I win fights immediately, or I get one-shot. No in-between.
I got a modded save and played regicide on new game on my first play through, basically taught me that the first 2/3s of the game are a magic game, and the final 3rd is a phys, in the final throws of the game, magic is obsolete purely because of how insane merchant is.
I have been making Regicide harder by only using weapons I've gotten through the playthrough. Through chests or purchasing. It's tedious because changing archetype automatically sets you to the best items, but if I used the strongest items I literally beat bosses with basic attacks (I'm pretty early on still).
Actually based idea. I mean, if it's all the same, you can even just sell all weapons at the start of the playthrough. Will save you some time with the whole strongest weapon thing.
@ollenadgam the better items are still a get out of jail free card 😅 Especially for the late game bosses, I imagine it's nice to have multiple of the same Archetypes, like Tycoon, each with an item you only get one of through each playthrough.

Sold literally everything that could be sold (the king weapons and the items you get from hanging out with people before and after ehtria cannot be sold, but it's easy enough to just avoid using them). Been having a blast. Feels like a way more balanced experience and more of a natural progression of difficulty if you are coming from finishing hard mode. Truly believe this is the best way to go if you want your second playthrough to be more about the strategy and build crafting, which was what I was looking for to begin with.
Regicide should’ve really been available from the beginning it’s a shame, it was really fun and challenging when I did NG+ and gave everyone equipment they got at that stage of the game.
I played the first 75% of the game on hard and the last 25% on normal. The only things that actually scare me in regicide are the dragons and Louis which is where I toned down the difficulty.
Tbf, Miracle Cirque is a physical attack, so it makes sense that Junah can't do anything with it. It'd probably be better on Strohl or a certain later fella.
I didnt struggle with Regicide that much on NG+ as you can bring your OP weapons, armor and items so early enemies get bodied by normal attacks. Final boss is also cakewalk compared to the Secret Boss as you will have accessories that just repel Phys and Mag.

I hoped regicide would be like Godborn from SMT V where you keep everything but the enemies get juiced to max level. You are op but so are they and the only thing helping you in combat is everything you learned up until now.

This was honestly the most difficult game they have made. I would say technically Nocturne is harder, but only because of the random encounters. The fact that hard gives the enemies extra press turns, and some enemies just having beast made me want to pull my hair out lol.
If you get to the end of the game and save up all of the incenses. Do they carry over? Could you incense immediately to like level 1 but 20 in all state?

In my opinion regicide should had been available for the first playthrough not just new game plus and one day I hope Atlas add a skip prologue option because it super slow even when you skip all the dialogue. The intro make the beginning game unbearable to playthrough
I find that to be a problem with most Atlus games. They need to do a new game plus mode where it skips the tutorials and early dialogue automatically. The early game is the reason I haven't did the other route in SMT V2
This game's only glaring issue with new game plus is the need to grind back all your hard earned archetypes since they are locked again behind the bond system.
with how fucking awful my party comp was for the final month and boss this video just purifies my soul seeing all the one shots. i fukcing hate that this game makes it almost mandatory to do every side dungeon to overlevel the content and make op archetypes to stand a chance. i was also mp starved the whole endgame leading to me not being able to beat more than 2 out of the repeat bosses so louis was even more of a drag just because i didnt know mage had mp exploits. because you dotn fucking get good mages until the end of the fucking game so i just skipped the calss after early game

The fire dragon was not the hardest one. its easily the devourer of stars which is the hard one. it drops your HP to 300, hexes you, resets buffs and debuffs etc. flames gets dropped by null and repel fire equipment
just remembered a counter argument: fire dragon does charm to everyone which is much worse than hex because of turn loss and one shot move next turn, and further in battle he's doing this combo more frequently, up until back to back. plus null fire are post dragons and repel is one accessory (dunno if there could be copies outside ng+)
I dont disagree necessarily. But healer is amazing early game with pugilist cause of the amount of holy weak enemies in thr early game. Swordsman and other then tarukaja seeker such so much ass.
Also fun fact! Frigid Ice Fortress is busted. My final party was Junah (RMD General Mask), Strohl (RS), and Hulkenberg (RK). Myself, Hulk, and Strohl inherited Frigid Ice Fortress and you can create a one time weakness to ice with Junah against ALL enemies, then cycle your 8 turns for around 8k Damage (higher if you also manage your buffs and debuffs well.) each round. Magic builds are nuts.
Do you just not have the option to do Regicide without NG+? Sounds disappointing, although I'll at least say that by most standards, the early game of Metaphor on hard was incredibly tedious if you cared about the time management part of the game (having to go back every time to massacre weak mobs as mage to recover some MP was not very thrilling). Bit of a bummer that equipment carries over though, perhaps there was a more elegant way to transfer things over. Perhaps skills you bought in the previous playthrough could still be accessed, that'd be neat and not as crazy.
There are some saves that some people made that allow you to play a NG+ run without bonuses, making it the easiest way to do a clean ng+ run. Best we have so far

It never gets harder except for the final boss. the equipment and archetype mastery carries all the way to the end.

I always remove enemy agility buffs asap because they’ll always randomly dodge even at plus 1

im doing regicide and im regretting maxing all the archetypes before ng+, I will not gain extra stats from mastering a archetype

If you talk to Neurus at the start of the final area he fully heals you including mp

Myself, Hulk, and Strohl inherited Frigid Ice Fortress and you can create a one time weakness to ice with Junah against ALL enemies, then cycle your 8 turns for around 8k Damage (higher if you also manage your buffs and debuffs well.) each round.

Do you just not have the option to do Regicide without NG+? Sounds disappointing, although I'll at least say that by most standards, the early game of Metaphor on hard was incredibly tedious if you cared about the time management part of the game (having to go back every time to massacre weak mobs as mage to recover some MP was not very thrilling). Bit of a bummer that equipment carries over though, perhaps there was a more elegant way to transfer things over. Perhaps skills you bought in the previous playthrough could still be accessed, that'd be neat and not as crazy.
There are some saves that some people made that allow you to play a NG+ run without bonuses, making it the easiest way to do a clean ng+ run. Best we have so far

@@Lonewulf321 I have found the superboss flag and difficulty address so can access both without actually needing a ng+ no bonus save.
New game regicide is a perfectly viable first run. I don’t know why they locked it tbh
