- "You Cannot Reason with a Tiger When Your Head Is in Its Mouth" - My favourite Quote from Churchill.
May 1940... 82 years ago, what a month for this incredibly complicated man.
Darkest Hour and Dunkirk go hand in hand. It's incredible both films came out at similar times and were made by a different cast and crew. Gary Oldman deserved all the awards for his portrayal as Sir Winston Churchill.
The quotes I’ve highlighted in the vid are ones that he actually quoted in real life!

The final line of Lord Halifax “He mobilized the British language, and send it into battle”
Gives me chills man
He did mistake the enemy. And now we are paying the consequences. Europe is no longer Europe. Britain is not British anymore large time ago.
@@MrIsmaele00 Not really, I'm pretty someone who bombs Britain during the Blitz in WW2 is an enemy of Britain.
@@MrIsmaele00yup and you should prove this because people wont take your word for it even though its right in front of everyones eyes
@@MrIsmaele00 Let's hope and pray right wing parties will stop the mass immigration and clear our lands of people who want to do us harm
@@MrIsmaele00Womp womp, don’t attack us and maybe we won’t march over Berlin again 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Gary Oldman played out the character flawlessly
I really enjoyed his performance
And who played Brendan Bracken?
Not going to lie. Oldman's delivery of the "We Shall Never Surrender" speech made me cry. Such passion and determination behind those four words.
The channel islands surrendered.
Gives me shivers every time, and perfectd/amplified by the "he mobilized the English language... and sent it into battle"
yes, however the new world stepped forth unto the liberation of the old@@wolfthequarrelsome504
Thee best prime minister ,
“I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat”
Just might be the most badass line a leader of any country has ever said
British understatements. At the battle of Trafalgar, British fleet against Napoleon's French Fleet, just before ships engaged, Admiral Nelson sent a message to all ships "England expects every man to do his duty."
Simple. Powerful.
"The big questions of the time are not decided by speeches and majority decisions --- but by iron and blood."
Bismarck 1862
It was pointless wars but empires fell and countries formed
Remember..this Man gave you the ability to criticism him
SO TRUE
so did hitler
No...we Indians..
Fought for your crown glory...died for ...
Then we had gained our independence...
And it had nothing to this man... whatever his name...
We will remember him as Architect of Bangal Famine...😢😢😢
@@amitpothare he killed more people than hitler
@@amitpotharewithout this man, you as an Indian would probably not even be able to post this comment. Granted, he might have done some terrible things but at the time it was him or A.H
The real personification of a warrior is not always with a sword and armour but is sometimes with a walking stick alone. May your spirit be with the creator of heaven and earth sir.
Excellent observation.
Well said
Incredibly beautifully put and remarkably true I will remember that. I see a lot of similarities between Churchill and Zelensky. Zelensky got every opportunity to leave Ukraine, western nations tried everything to get him to leave but he refused. Even with all the assassination attempts and bombs falling on the city he never ran. He goes to the front and stands with the people because he knew he needed to be done for the future.
Or a shillelagh😆
My father told me that when he sat with my grandfather and grandmother listening to the " We shall fight on the beaches" speech.
My Grandad saId "This man is an idiot, we have nothing, they have tanks and machine guns. We can't win."
Then he turned the radio off and said. "But we can fight!"
Even now typing this it gives me goosebumps.
Is there anyone left like you in the UK. Asking from a proud American.
@@phi68951 - there's plenty of us left, as you can see from the comments under this video.
@@28pbtkh23 you guys need to wake up before its too late
Churchill was one of the bravest leaders in history. Not afraid of his fellow politicians and in favour of the public he served. The fate of the UK would have been greatly different if not for him and the ironic opposing politicians who favoured him.
Incredible achievement in such an unbelievable, harsh, daring time in history.
Churchill's war machine was powered by millions of indentured men dragged into war against their will. Just saying, let's not forget that.
Well said!
Actually, the polar opposite is true... And that goes to show how well they crafted their sins... Hitler came forth with over 2 dozen peace proposals... but the genocidal drunk wanted no part of it... For the sake of humanity's future, we need for THE TRUTH to come out...
And he was a mass murderer
My great aunt Pauline was his chief cook. She once said to me that he was flawed, but he was resilient to the core and he was what Britain needed at the time.
That seems to be the consensus of many, flawed but needed, and I couldn't agree more
There is no single human being on Earth who's not flawed. Not one.
@@boushbash3133 Very true, it depends in what area your weaknesses are in and where your strengths are. Fortunately for Britain he was the man for the job.
It is often the those that do not seek the position of power but have it foisted upon them in desperation that you see miracles.
Anyone else and Britain would have fallen
I am not from the UK but I have great respect for this guy...he always cared about his people...
He was steamed every afternoon and got direct, advanced notice of every air raid on London so he bailed out the back door of Whitehall.
@@wolfthequarrelsome504
His advisors had to repeatedly stop him from watching the air raids from the roof as they were happening.
The guy was absolutely fearless.
@@mattwestcigarreviews What do you expect from a former british marineofficer that has been involved in three wars before ww2.
His only fear was what his equally bad ass ancestors should think of him.
he was even worse than hitler because of him 5 million indians died due to an artificial famine in bengal
Is that why he was always tore after 12 noon and was out the back door of Whitehall half an hour before an air raid arrived over London?
My uncle was in the Air Force during this time, and when soldiers asked ,"Where's the bloody Air Force" he would say .quietly. we were behind the lines stopping the Nazis from killing you on the beach.
My Grandfather was in the airforce as well, and had been since 1936
But that is not accurate...the airforce did not offer much cover over dunkirk...which is the origin of the phrase "where's the bloody airforce"
There was a decision made to keep the airforce intact for the next phase of the war, the Battle of Britain
@@LoveBagpipes this, the RAF had bigger issues than sortees over enemy controlled French countrysides
@@LoveBagpipes not really though the French and part of the Airforce where fighting to give time for The British to evacuate movie is great but lack these key aspect the RAF was giving order to give air supremacy during the entirely of the Evacuation losing 177 planes during the operation this is a myth that they did not help they where there
@@LoveBagpipes - well, that's partly true. Dowding did write to Churchill to say that France was going to fall and that therefore the RAF should save as many fighters as possible for any forthcoming fight over Britain's skies. However, at the same time - as a recent documentary has pointed out - several squadrons of fighters fought waves of German aircraft in Belgium and France and prevented them from ever reaching the beaches used for the evacuation. There was one memorable episode when RAF fighters made a flight of 50 Heinkel bombers turn back from attacking Dunkirk.
I am a 60 year old Scotsman with tears running down my eyes. I know why. That is the Britain I belong to. Not this pish we have now.
Rule Britannia. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
well said my brother
Hear Hear!
I'm 65 and feel the same
This is the reason you have the Britain you have now.
I'm 25 and this is the British spirit I will forever mourn the loss of.
When the world was falling into darkness, Churchill rose like a phoenix from the ashes.
Never in the history of mankind has the future rested so much on the decisiveness of one single man. A single different thought, a moment of weakness would have sent us all into the abyss - God bless him! And to all those focussing on the speck in his eye - go mind the beams in your own!
From the time he was a young boy, Winston Churchill believed that one day he would be called to save England, he expected this to be sometime in the first world war - and largely thought his time was over by 1939 but now we realize that if not for his leadership during the Battle of Britain, the Second World War could have easily gone another way. You've done an excellent job with this mashup as well! thank you!
Well agreed. The British needed a rallying point and he was it.
The British peoples mission to save the troops on the beaches of Dunkirk is some of the bravest and most noble shit ive ever learned about. Everyone who crossed that water is a real hero.
Thank you Sir Winston Churchill, for being an extraordinary man and teaching us that we must never, but never, give up, thank you for saving not only Europe but the entire world. How much we need it now, in a world of so much violence and hatred. His word is missed.
We shall never surrender It is not just a phrase, it is a sign that the fight is until the end.
My Grandfather always gets teary eyed up when he talks about Churchill. He loves that men and our entire family of that time was willing to put their lives on the line for that man. English, Irish, British and Americans.
He truly is the perfect example of a real life hero. Flawed, not perfect, but willing to do what needed to be done.
''Flawed'' is the least of how you could describe of his irredeemable traits.

@@mervyit It was a plan a long game plan just think !
@@welmer2890 I don't think the plan is going very well. Our capital is less than 50% white British, we have hundreds of thousands of non native people claiming to be British hell bent on changing or erasing our culture and are unable to stop illegal migrants invading our shores in dinghies. I can't help but think many of those who fought in the war would never have left had they known. No one wants the multicultural shit pit our country has become.
@@mervyit well said
So long as there are people to keep the torch burning, there will always be and England to which other countries can take example. George VI said something along those lines and I have full confidence that this Kingdom shall endure so long as there are still people to bear the torch. Do not be a pessimist, people - humans- don't change and that Dunkirk spirit of ago still lives on, times may seem bleak but by the grace of God there will be a real man like Churchill to pick up the mantle. Weather you like the tories, Labour or any other party, the biggest thing will always be a determination to do the right thing and preserve unity, because Christ died to make humanity good. Fear not, support for each other, no matter their background or their race will always prevail, just as Churchill ensured by not flagging in 1940. ❤ 🇬🇧
Watching this over and over again. What a masterpiece. Well Done!
Thanks!
This man literally saved the world. How many people can say they have done the same?
so true
He was I believe 65 years old when he became PM, not exactly a young fit man, he carried the weight of the nation on his shoulders, and held the destiny of the world in his hands, what a man he was.🇬🇧
Sadly men like this are rare.
They are there, dont worry, difficult times would bring them where they belong.
Proving that we truly stand in the footprints of giants . May we always prove worthy .
Darkest Hour. Best Film EVER. I show it in my intro to film class at my college.
It’s time for men to be great again, time to endure absolute darkness not for ourselves but for the people we care and love. Be proud of our mission to consume chaos because it will be our legacy like our grandfathers before us.
Dunkirk was a masterpiece of a movie
One of the greatest administrator the world have ever seen....his braveness, guts, no one can ever match.
This gives me chills every time I watch this
Say what you will of the British Empire and this honorable man, but when the world needed us most we held against tyranny, alone. No words have ever bore such truth: 'Whatever the cost may be'. The Empire faced down this lion, but succumb to the wounds. This was the act that ultimately redeemed the image of the Empire for myself. Churchill embodied complete selflessness on the part of our greatest achievement as a nation to save western civilisation.
I would rather lay on the ground chocking on my own blood, rather than contemplate parlay or surrender! I wish we were that brave again.....
I have great respect for men that can lead a country through one of the bloodiest wars in human history.
The passion is purely shown when the little child speaks out at 5:28, it's purely nothing but beautiful.
A great tribute, to a great man. God bless, and keep him.
He was the man the world needed. And they cast him aside when he completed what he set out to do. An incredible man, flawed as so many of the greatest men to ever grace this green earth but he did what few men could have done. God bless him
he was cast aside because his peacetime policies were shit
Amazing tribute. Such a pragmatic, and steadfast leader. But he had his vulnerabilities. (Not that he’d admit them openly.) This was truly great. A+
Something that we all should aspire to achive... courage to keep pressing on. For our families, for our friends, for our future. There no right or wrong, there is only willpower and hope!
That's exactly what the Germans were doing until the very end. Unfortunately, they lost though, so now things look pretty hopeless. The world is rampant with usury and pornography, which were the first two things outlawed by the National Socialists.
Yes i cried. Those people lived. I am german and this was part of history. Those men, were MEN! And i am thankful for the ones I never did meet! 😢
We need this now, more than ever!!!!
As a Chilean-American , one of the most interesting individuals I’ve ever studied or heard of in history 🥹
Darkest Hour is one of my favorite movies of all time
This gave me chills
Editing is superb. Great work
When the situation seemed totally hopeless the nation endured. "Whatever the cost" and the cost was terrible.
Cometh the hour cometh the man. Sir Winston was that man.
Each dawn brought forth a noble chance, and each chance Brough forth a noble knight!
God bless his soul... men like him, made of iron is what kept us safe and free, the ones who sacrificed everything around them to Never Surrender... Never Surrender, no matter the odds
5:45 that was very emotional word. ''home''

Beautifully done Bravo!!!
Thank you!
God damn this is the most emotional thing I have ever seen. God Save the King.
Outstanding GRIT & SPIRIT!
this made me cry man WE SHALL NEVER SERENDER!😍
One of the best creations I have ever seen.
This royal throne of kings, this scepter’d isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England
W. Shakespeare, in 'Richard II'
I always liked stuff like this, good gob you did this beautifully
6:35 "THIS DAY WE FIGHT"
The hero, The legend, the God who will never die, Churchill. for without him the world would be certainly for the worse.
There are many brave men in the history of the world who are way more unnoticed, unheard and not tributed, courage is walking even when your foot stomps on fire, courage is putting your spine straight even when the world is against you, courage is knowing even if doesnt end well i will not go down in the shame of not trying hard enough, courage is being who you are even if fear tries to tear you down that you are not supposed to be this, courage is knowing that even if you are flawed it won't have a hold upon your existence, courage is celebrating being the monster even if being the monster saved a life and not being a hero if it ruined lifetime after lifetime, courage is losing for the right reason rather than cheating and winning for the wrong reasons
Whatever the British people are, whatever they have been, and will be, God saw fit to grace them with a Winston Churchill(and not the wimpy paper pusher), and victory in the darkest hour.
That's gotta be worth something, even with almost a century betwixt then and now.
Despite his flaws, I can with unwavering confidence say, that I'd rather live in a world with Churchill, than a world without Churchill.
Masterpiece.
I’m not saying we should have Winston Churchill today, but thank god we had him in the 1940’s!
Flaws create the problem. Resolve soles the problem.
If a man has both. Lead him. Follow him. Or get out of his way.
This made me weep. Well done.
Great vidéo already watch it hundreds of time. Love from France
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
one of the first poem's i learned as a boy.
God, what MEN critical times generate!
Europeans should thank Churchill, in my opinion, no matter how much we were enemies in the Dardanelles in the first world war, I would not want anyone else as an enemy but this man, he has honor and is one of the people I respect the most after Mustafa Kemal Pasha himself
"While some in this country dreaded your appointment, none... None dreaded it like Adolf Hitler" the one man that could put a halt to Hitler's powerhouse was the man who stepped up and did.
Darkest hour is such a good movie.
My uncle was RAF musician and played at his funeral carriage. What a man, but lets not forget this is not the first time our great country, done its bit to free Europe from dictactors.
God Bless his memory, and God Bless the Freedom he stood for.

"He mobilised english language, and send it into battle."
Absolute Masterpiece !
Well put, Winston!
In the light of current events in Ukraine - it’s the best speech ever.
Absolutely agreed. Solely based on this video you can see the resemblece between Zelensky and Churchill and the current situation similarity
Brilliant video, good show mate
As a German, i can be only thankful to the British, and the Allies that they managed to beat the Nazi menace, i wouldn't want to live in the world my ancestors tried to create
The German people are an amazing people, and warriors, it was a shame that so many German people as well as everyone else, got sacrificed on the alter of ideology
One small island sad no! It scares me
Unbelievable video made my day. From a half Irish half German I must add!
Outstanding Edit!
A very impressive speaker and person, right person at the right place at the right time
Again the man is a magician. Extraordinary!
Never give up never surrender
Gary Oldman's supreme acting gift caught my attention watching "The Book of Eli" and this movie reinforces his ability too take on convinsing diverse role's with natural appeal!
For another view of this time, there's a BBC series "Wartime Farm". One year of running a farm, when Churchill called for farmers to multiply x !! 5 !! their output. A family lived the life and did the work as it was done then.
This is great!
Thanks :)
I'm blubbering. Heavy duty courage!
This is why the commonwealth is so steadfast, our grandparents heard his mutter and stood strong as steel, they then spread, into australia from Malta, in my case. We faced annihilation and a fat oaf of an veteran curled our ears and languished our soul. Imagine a war without Churchill's speech. Who knows. But im Aussie. Bloody well proud. Come and take us. Commonwealth may be spoiled in blood, but this decade we revel in, is of this man. A fat drunkard, a downright dog...
But come and take us. Step first. Im'a smash ya.
One of the best speeches ever
So, isn't speech writing and delivery the key?
All one needs then is platform.
Adolf Hitler used exactly the same method.
