Donna tells it like it is. She is not afraid to show she is human too. If she makes a mistake she shows you how to correct it the next time. She is a Rock Star in my book.
Most of the time, I fall in love with a fabric and then figure out a pattern that will work with it. Sometimes I'll find a pattern I love and get fabric to go with it, but that happens way less often.
I quite often pick my fabrics first and then hunt for a pattern however, I also have several patterns with me when I shop for fabric. I agree with Rhonda's reply whole-heartily; couldn't have said it better. It irritates me when I'm told I 'have to have' a particular ruler to make a pattern. Donna will show you what both rulers can do and let you decide which is best for you, which I respect and I will happily support Jordan Fabrics.
So true, for me it's the fabric that grabs me and then I find a pattern that works. I imagine many quilters are the same. That's why we all have such amazing stashes that seem to grow all by themselves.
I love watching Donna tutorial I think she is the best Kind, clear , precise, very sweet lady. And I will love to visit her store and have the chance to know her Maybe one day
I am so addicted to fabric if that I generally pick the fabric first and then find a pattern to showcase the fabric. Than you for all of the tutorials!
I like this quilt and the colors. I usually buy fabric first then look for a pattern. My dream quilting class would take place in a store like yours where the objective is for students to select fabrics for specific patterns and then receive feedback and guidance. I really enjoy watching Matt choose fabric. He explains his choices.
Hello to all the people at Jordens fabrics, like always I’m never disappointed with your videos, best teacher I’m getting better with my 🙌 so will be sowing very soon.I love watching your videos and spending time with your reading every e-Mail enjoying every moment.Thank you very much for all the work you’ve presented.
I usually pick the pattern before the fabric. Usually the only exception is when I find holiday fabric I love. Then I’ll pick the fabric and find a pattern that would look best with the fabric. Thanks for all of your videos! I love the inspiration and how easy you make it, even the most difficult looking patterns.
I laugh at myself today, after having found Donna and her videos! I made a queen quilt using ALL half square triangles and didn't know about sewing a quarter inch on both sides of the diagonal line! I ended up with enough 1/2 square triangles to make a wall hanging, 2 pillows and a table runner! Thank you Donna for setting me straight!
Your videos are, in my opinion, the best on RUclips. You’re easy to follow, keep moving and have the most relaxing voice 😊 Please keep making these videos. They inspire so much!!
Both ways, but mostly I’m drawn to the fabric. Thanks for all your wonderful quilting videos. Having fun these days with making quilts for my 8 grandchildren and for my niece who is getting married.
Thanks Donna for keeping me outside my comfort zones. I think this helps me to be a better quilter. This video was one surprise after another! I wasn't excited with the pattern choice and even less excited about the jelly roll. I was horrified by the amount of waste and mentally shouted "NO WAY!" as fabric is far too expensive for that kind of trimming. However, as usual, Donna turns the whole quilt into something wonderful AND manages to eliminate some of the waste just by making simple changes. THEN, the final surprise is a very generous GIVEAWAY for some very lucky person. I wish them well!
The thing that I love about Donna is that she shows how to use the basic equipment. Most show's show you all of the fancy stuff that you have to buy. But with Donna it is a basic pencil, and you can use the special ruler, or here is how you use the regular rule that everyone owns. I really respect that about her. Thank you so much for making quilting more affordable, and accessible
Amen 🙏🏻! L❤️VE this comment, quilting is an expensive hobby, plus given the fact most of us give our quilts away, it’s nice to be able to cut corners where we can.
Exactly. Quilting items are over priced. Jordan Fabrics make videos that are so helpful and Donna teaches in a way that makes the project attainable. My first quilt was one of her free patterns.
Using the white background really works here; it makes the blocks stand out. Like putting a large mat around a framed picture or photo. I’ve been purchasing only fat quarter bundles lately but I think a Kaffe Fassett roll is calling my name for this pattern. Thanks Donna! 😀
I didn't even watch this the first time it was put out there but after going back toady to see something new, I was totally impressed with this one. In answer to your question, sometimes I buy fabrics without a plan and other times I Buy a pattern without a fabric in mind. So with your tutorials, I often, end up with a plan. Thank you for your contribution to the quilting society. My grandmother taught me to piece and quilt at her old wooden quilting frame when I was about 10 or 12. Which was soooo many years ago. (I'm 84 now) But of course life happened with three children and working as an LPN. I sewed off and on but retired at 77 (I know, crazy LOL) I have learned and enjoyed "sew" much watching your tutorials. Thanks again, Donna, Matt and group. Carol Knaebel, Evansville IN.
Boy, I really liked the quilt you made- "Rock Stars" - fun and cheerful and I likd the various colors and especially the birds prints- It was fun and your utorial goes hrough he beginnbg and end- thank you again, Donna and Matt- I love it💕
Donna, I really like this one in the bright colors. i think that your choice of an almost white on the triangle was perfect it made the center colors pop! As you were cutting the squares I thought what a waste of fabric and then you surprised me at the end. Perfect for those of us who hat to waste fabric. You and the crew do such a professional job that watching you is easy. It has and, I am sure in the future, will encourage me to try more with my quilting dreams. What a generous give away. I sure hope that I am the one chosen but I will be happy for anyone else.
Wow, Rock Star really lives up to its name, so do you! I just love your calm instructions. You provide lots of information in a short amount of time. I could watch hours of the longarm. ❤😊❤
Donna Watching you sometimes it’s hard because you were my sister‘s favorite quilting show to watch and she died last year but I continue to watch you it brings back memories plus I love the way you pick colors and put them together so easily and I love the way you show short cuts or tips thank you for all you do - I know it’s hard work 🥰🙏🏽
Donna, I just love how your Rock Star quilt turned out. I really think deciding to 1) use the white-on-white material as the main background, 2) dividing the outside border in half and then inserting a patched strip made out of left over material into the middle of the outside border, and finally 3) choosing the very pretty backing and then inserting another strip of patched pieces from the quilt ... were all decision that were truly inspired. The orginal quilt pattern, jellyroll fabric, and the two solid backgroud fabric selected were vibrant and coordinated beautifully. I was, however, excited and and relieved that you brilliantly intervened with just the right colors, to give the eyes a place to rest in the process of taking in the intensity of colors in the solid borders and the printed stars so that each aspect could be appreciated for its individual beauty. Then, when I saw how you choose to create the pieced strips from the leftover printed fabric, and placed them on the outside border and also ingeniously inserted another pieced strip with the completely different softer print chosen as backing...I truly wanted to stand up a cheer. These choices showed how so many gorgeous fabrics in a dynamic design could be brought together in a balanced, cohesive and totally unique way. You really are a brilliant designer and a meticulous artist that creates truly beautiful quilted works of art. I was grateful when you took the time to show us how you had made the strips used on the front and back, and surprised that when the quilt was completed our quilting lesson was still upper most in your mind. I learned so much tonight and there were times when I was on the edge of my seat...feeling a tad tense hoping it would all work out. And, as always, you showed how easy intricate, detailed work can be accomplished while still being able to make the quilt realize its full potential. Donna, you are a Rock Star in the World of Quilting. I hope you keep this quilt for yourself to enjoy! I really do not know how you can give any of your beautiful quilts away. I believe we all feel the loving, generous, encouragement being given to all of your subscribers/students/patrons with each quilt you give. I am sure that each person who receives your gifted quilt cherishes your kindness and this beautiful work of art. Thank you for all you do to help bring such joyful creativity into our own lives and in this way help us follow your example and pass along the love that comes with every quilt, runner, pillow, frog, tree skirt...made. Sincerely, Anita P.S. I haven't forgot your husband Matt, your Son the photographer and all of the hard working Angels that are Jordan Fabrics. I am grateful to each of you for making your company and your channel work so beautifully and provide the platform for such important and love to being shared. ❤❤
I agree with Rhonda! Thank you for using tools we all may have Donna! I wish I could find the video where you shared how to strip tube without a strip tube ruler🤷♀️ so many videos I've seen from you 😂 after hours I still am not sure which one. Thank you Mat & Donna for such an awesome gift your sharing. Yes yes, the quilts , oh I'd adore one. I mean come on they are all gorgeous and long armed💁♀️ I don't have the ability to do that in my home.. gorgeous! But for one who's struggled to aquire the amazing things>>FABRIC 😁 last we forget those fancy rulers n Notions that make light work of a quilters time.. well this is a game changer! CONGRATULATIONS 🎊 👏 🎊 TO THE WINNER IN ADVANCE, IT'S AWESOME🤗
I'm new to sewing and Donna is the only one out of the hundreds that I can understand and LEARN without confusion. From her tone of voice to the way she simplifies every step. Thank you all at Jordan Fabrics.
I absolutely love jow she teaches. So plain, yet informative. She tells you every step and not too fast. Thank you, Donna. And the camera work, filming, is great!!
all I want is to spend a day in Donna’s shop… with a full tour of the shipping department… and all the rooms where Matt cuts the kits and Donna sees… that looks like sheer heaven!!
As others have stated, I wouldn’t have chosen this pattern due to the picture on the front. Once you made it with vibrant colors, I was sold. When deciding on a project, I do both. I see fabric I really love and may buy it, then pick a pattern. But I also see patterns I like (especially baby quilts) and then choose the fabric. Always love your videos and hope some day you will reopen the shop and I can visit. Thanks for all the great work.
I am going to repeat a lot of the same comments. I love that you don’t have to buy more accessories to make a featured quilt and can use what I have. Donna you are wonderful in this aspect! I frequently am attracted to quilt patterns and then will find material to make that quilt. What I love about Donna is that she picks colors that I would not have considered and they come out great. I also like that she posts customer made quilts of her patterns that frequently use additional color options. I also like that she finds ways to incorporate scraps to avoid wasted material. I am frequently now also looking at my scraps and using them in the original quilt design. You have a great channel and I always “do all the things” to let you tube know that I appreciate your content!
Thank you Donna for your tutorials. I have not sewn a quilt in 20 years since my grandmother passed. Quilting was our favorite time together. I am ready to start again to keep her memory alive. The "Rock Star" quit is very beautiful. The color choices really pop. You are an excellent teacher and make sewing fun.
i ALMOST discarded this pattern from consideration until I saw that you constructed the scraps into a border piece and incorporated it into the backing. Without these two additional steps in the process, I think the pattern is somewhat wasteful of fabric. A black mark in my book. You saved the day and the quilt is drop dead gorgeous! That said, I almost always choose fabric before I settle on a pattern choice. Once I have "shopped" my stash, I take a stack of potential fabric candidates to my pattern collection and make a gigantic mess on my worktable of pictures and fabrics, trying to choose the perfect pair. I often run back and forth to my fabric crates and bring out even more candidates. I lose track of time and have a glorious good time.
Yes to shopping the stash! Also, yes, this pattern has way too much waste. The designers were trying way too hard to use jelly rolls when maybe charms or just yardage would have been a better fit.
Donna is great at making complicated looking quilt patterns approachable and doable. I would not have chosen the pattern just looking at the pattern. However, Donna's choice of fabrics and her clear and simple instructions makes the process less daunting. Thank you Donna for keeping it simple and encouraging me to get outside my comfort zone. Love the quilt, especially the fabrics and the pieced borders.
Oh gosh the moment I've been waiting for ! Always go to bed watching 👀 to see new quilts. I have to figure out how to make my daughter's wedding band quilt. I watched my granny quilt and make each one of us girls one. Unfortunately she passed away a month ago and my daughter is so hurt by it so if one thing I have in my goals is to make one for my daughter as a memorial to my grandmother.
Have you seen Donna's double wedding ring quilt video? It's a beautiful project and might be helpful for your special project! ruclips.net/video/CtzclxUZDu8/видео.html
I can confirm, I made a double wedding ring quilt for some dear friends of mine following Donna Jordans tutorial and it turned out great!! To add a more complex look without having to piece each ring out of the tiny wedges, I cut my fabric for the rings into strips and then made strip sets out of them. One of yellow fabrics and one of purple... their wedding colors. I used the template Donna Jordan used to cut the rings out of the strip sets, and it turned out great!! Much easier than piecing together tiny little wedges, while making it look like i really spent a lot of time on it... They loved it!!
Donna, I could sit here and watch, listen and learn from you all day long. Thank you for all you do for all of us out here. It doesn’t matter what pattern you choose, your finished quilt is always beautiful. I wish there was a way to see all of the patterns from Cozy Quilts (I think that’s the name??) please…you, Matt, your family and of course the Jordan Fabrics crew thank you and have a very blessed day.
Sometimes I pick my quilts based on fabrics and sometimes I pick based on patterns. It's really just whatever speaks to me. I absolutely love your videos. I have learned so much from you. I just recently ordered some holiday layer cakes from you and am working with them now. I love shopping your website for both fabrics and patterns. Also, I appreciate that you have so many free patterns and have made several of them as well. Thanks again!
Sometimes I find fabric I just can't walk away from and then find a pattern to showcase the pattern. Other times, I find a great pattern and have to touch all of the fabric at a quilt store to find the perfect fabric for the pattern. Either way, beauty ensues!
Fabric First Every time! Then choose a pattern based on how much time I want to invest , new skills, and how much I want to show off the fabric. Agreed with your thought process on this one! Would love more videos with you choosing fabric first and then pattern :)
I always LOVE watching your quilting process from start to finish. Your selection of fabrics, pattern, and then quilting stitching is truly inspiring. You make it look effortless, but I know from my limited expertise that you are incredibly talented. I would love to be within shopping distance as your store is stocked with such beautiful fabrics. My local shops never have so many gorgeous color choices of jelly rolls with coordinating yardage to complete the project. My dream space! Thank you for all the ‘tips’ you always throw in. Very helpful!
What a very happy quilt! You are such an excellent teacher! Thank you for giving us the confidence to try new things!!! Additionally, thank you for the wonderful opportunity to win the gift certificate❤️
Thankyou Donna. I love that one. The fabrics you chose were the best. I appreciate you show us how to use the rulers etc that we already have! Just so practical. And the quilt is beautiful. Your giveaway is great too! Xx🇦🇺
Always enjoy Donna’s videos, sad can’t go to the store anymore,I like to touch and match things , and browse through patterns . BUT love all of Donna’s quilts . Keep them coming always can’t wait to watch. Have made several of the Jagged X, for gifts even in baby quilts.
I do both... sometimes I love the colors; sometimes I have a pattern. And sometimes I watch Donna Jordan show how to create a quilt and I love it and want to reproduce it. Sometimes with the same colors and sometimes my own for a particular room or Camper
sometimes I see a fabric and I just have to have it then I choose a pattern, sometimes like when I watch your videos, I see a pattern that makes me go oooooh, and I just have to make it. Thanks for all the inspiration!
I pick the person first with their loves and interests. I try to make or fit a pattern's personality to their's. Sometimes a fabric just begs you to do something special
Привет из России!!! Какая красота, какие интересные, чудесные блоки!!! Я в таком восторге от Вашей работы!!! Очень красивые ткани, яркие, сочные цвета!!! Дай Бог, Вам здоровья и много новых интересных проектов !!!!
I'm not a yellow and orange person so I wasn't sure if I would like this quilt despite the awesome fabrics of the jelly roll. But wow Donna, once it was together, especially with the white triangles and the pieced border, it looks fabulous! I really, really like it!!! Thank you for another great lesson on piecing AND color selection.
I love watching Donna. Ive learned so much from her and I appreciate how she takes time to explain the important details and she doesn’t recommend a new tool every time she makes a video. Ive purchased a lot of cozy quilt patterns from Jordan Fabrics and never saw one of their patterns that wasted a lot of fabric. Donna saved the pattern by finding a way to utilize all that waste which I’m glad of, because let’s face it, fabric is super expensive. Thanks Donna!
I have just returned to quilting after 30 years of being away. So many things have changed over the years. We didn't have jelly rolls, layer cakes or charm packs back then. Watching Donna's videos have really helped me to understand this foreign language. I'm now retired and ready to get started. Thanks Donna for explaining so well the ins and outs of quilting.
This Quilt is absolutely beautiful. At first I wasn't sure how the white side setting triangles would look. Then you showed the quilt on the longarm with the borders you added. How wrong I was. This is (for this week) NOW my favorite Tutorial and Quilt. As always, Thank You for the Tutorial, Can't wait to see what's next. Sincerly James.
Fabric first. I cannot resist beautiful fabric. I love that you showed how to use that ruler! I have many of these and love that I can use it for this too. Thank you!
Just beautiful. Donna is a wonderful teacher. I just finished cutting the fabric for the Fruit Cake quilt. I couldn’t get the Tranquility line so I purchased the Holiday Flourish and the Fruit Cake pattern. I just can’t wait to see the end result. It is truly an easy pattern to cut and sew. I highly recommend the pattern.
Who else gasped when Donna cut the little parrot's head in half at 11:40? 😭😂 Also... how long did it take people to notice Donna had her nails done during the filming of this - I made it all the way to block assembly before I noticed 😂 Gorgeous quilt! I've been eyeing this fabric for a while 💖
First I want to live in your shipping department! Seeing all the colors would make my day. I tend to pick a pattern based on pre-cuts. I am not very experienced and despite my best efforts to be a careful cutter, I am not as accurate as I want. For me the pre-cuts take away a lot of that frustration. I have been watching Donna make quilts for awhile and have learned so much. Eventually I will tackle a more complicated project but right now I am very content to concentrate on making projects using pre-cuts. Thank you.
A Rock Star Quilt from a Rock Star teacher! Thank you for all that you and your team do to make us better quilters. I love how you use up extra fabrics in borders and in the backing. I have started to do this also as a result of watching you - I am not a fan of wasting fabric. Keep the videos coming - I think I might have to retire earlier than I planned to get all of my planned quilts done!!
Oh my word! l'm getting inspiration for a baby quilt from your color combos. Yellow is usually my go-to color for baby quilts [in my day you didn't know sex B4]...bright cheerful colors to welcome the newborn!
Donna tells it like it is. She is not afraid to show she is human too. If she makes a mistake she shows you how to correct it the next time. She is a Rock Star in my book.
I like it better when Donna does her own free patterns, rather than one you have to purchase. Regardless love your tutorials

Omg I just live this quilt for a family member who doesn't sew but she is always doing things for others . I just live Donna's tutorials.
That is a stunning quilt and you are a Rock Star, Donna!

You have a great channel and I always “do all the things” to let you tube know that I appreciate your content!
I like the way Donna showing use everything todo with the Quality it’s amazing
Thank you Donna for your tutorials. I have not sewn a quilt in 20 years since my grandmother passed. Quilting was our favorite time together. I am ready to start again to keep her memory alive. The "Rock Star" quit is very beautiful. The color choices really pop. You are an excellent teacher and make sewing fun.
Donna, you're the rock star! Many thanks for all your hard work and attention to every detail.
i ALMOST discarded this pattern from consideration until I saw that you constructed the scraps into a border piece and incorporated it into the backing.
Your method sounds like great fun! I was stumped when Donna asked us which way we choose; fab or pattern first?
Donna is great at making complicated looking quilt patterns approachable and doable. I would not have chosen the pattern just looking at the pattern. However, Donna's choice of fabrics and her clear and simple instructions makes the process less daunting. Thank you Donna for keeping it simple and encouraging me to get outside my comfort zone. Love the quilt, especially the fabrics and the pieced borders.
You show making quilts in terms even a beginner can follow. Your choice of fabrics and patterns are spot on! Love watching you.
I love that thin scrappy border.
Donna you have a God given talent and an awesome eye for color.. that quilt is beautiful 😍. Thanks for making it.
Another beautiful quilt made by Donna.
Donna has a great tutorial for that. And it's even easier with her pattern.
Донна, браво! Donna, bravo!
When she have to pick the thread colour, I listen to the choice, I pause the video and pick my choice and then compare with Donna’s. Fun exercice !
Heather from Australia. I love the way you pick colours and your videos have helped a beginner like me learn so much,,
Sometimes I find fabric I just can't walk away from and then find a pattern to showcase the pattern.
Pieced border is so sharp. It really makes the quilt. This is such a cute jellyroll
Love your hair! And especially your tutorials. You explain it simply and quickly.
What a very happy quilt! You are such an excellent teacher! Thank you for giving us the confidence to try new things!!! Additionally, thank you for the wonderful opportunity to win the gift certificate❤️
I love the border within a border using the extra fabric. Genius and beautiful!
Thankyou Donna. I love that one. The fabrics you chose were the best. I appreciate you show us how to use the rulers etc that we already have! Just so practical. And the quilt is beautiful. Your giveaway is great too! Xx🇦🇺
Just saying, Donna your hair is lovely😍
Love the white on the edges and the addition of the colourful border......it really does look beautiful....x
Donna you're the rock star!
Just beautiful, Donna! You are such an inspiration. Thanks for all you do.
I am not a huge fan of yellows and oranges, but I love this quilt! It made a beautiful quilt.
Always enjoy Donna’s videos, sad can’t go to the store anymore,I like to touch and match things , and browse through patterns . BUT love all of Donna’s quilts . Keep them coming always can’t wait to watch. Have made several of the Jagged X, for gifts even in baby quilts.
Love the Rock Star. Sometimes I start with a pattern, sometimes I start with the fabric and look for a pattern.
I do both... sometimes I love the colors; sometimes I have a pattern. And sometimes I watch Donna Jordan show how to create a quilt and I love it and want to reproduce it. Sometimes with the same colors and sometimes my own for a particular room or Camper
Love todays quilt. You and Matt are so generous. Blessings on you and your family plus your business.
Beautiful, love the oranges my favourite colour. Happy to see you used the cutoff in your quilt. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Thank you Donna for the opportunities. I love watching these vids of yours. You explain everything just like the others say very very well. 💚
sometimes I see a fabric and I just have to have it then I choose a pattern, sometimes like when I watch your videos, I see a pattern that makes me go oooooh, and I just have to make it.
I always start with fabric first, then find an appropriate pattern. You're channel is inspirational for that!
You are so generous to us all. Thanks so much for all you do
Donna, you make beautiful items. I love the way you explain how to sew. Thank you.
Donna, your are a great Teacher. I love your Videos and products.
I fall in love with a fabric and then look for a pattern. This will be great for one of my jelly rolls! 💖
This giveaway is a FANTASTIC idea! You are such an amazing woman! Thank you, and God Bless!
🌸💕I love to watch you pick fabrics, sew and quilt. 🧵Thank you.🥰🇺🇸
This Quilt is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you for always being so generous with your projects you make. Have not won yet but an very excited week after week to see what you make next.
I've finally realized the fabrics you have used as ones I have used or ones I want.
Love Donnas videos. Can’t wait to make Rock Star!
I usually pick my fabric first. Can’t help myself! Just love fabric!
I love your choice of background colors. Seeing your videos helps me be more adventurous when choosing fabrics.
Your warehouse is amazing with all that fabric!!
Who else gasped when Donna cut the little parrot's head in half at 11:40? 😭😂 Also... how long did it take people to notice Donna had her nails done during the filming of this - I made it all the way to block assembly before I noticed 😂 Gorgeous quilt! I've been eyeing this fabric for a while 💖
I only noticed since there's a few missing in the beginning and then bam she has all new gorgeous nails 😂
You are a great teacher! Thank you Donna!
Thank you.
I m drawn to fabrics, buy them, then decide how I'm going to use it. Sometimes it's very hard to cut fabrics I just love!
So excited for whoever. Get that deal! Love watching
Oh my word! l'm getting inspiration for a baby quilt from your color combos. Yellow is usually my go-to color for baby quilts [in my day you didn't know sex B4]...bright cheerful colors to welcome the newborn!
