Pad Thai Narok Taek is out of this world! It even made my Thai wife ( who is not a Pad Thai lover at all) fall in love with his version Friendly guy too🙂
@@theroamingcook You have noted that the tammarind sauce, that cooked with plum sugar, will mix with such very high heat wok-hay style. That is big different.
Have not try the 2nd one yet but will soon. And yes the rest three are very good. I suggest 1 more place to go in Bangkok: Pad thai Talingchan If you have time to go a bit further up north, try pad thai in Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, and Sing Buri to find not-so-standard version of pad thai such as using sour-green mango instead of lime (but most of them are sold for many decades).
Following your video, I visited this PadThaiNarokTack restaurant because I was staying nearby. Indeed the best Pad Thai I have ever eaten. Afterwards I walked to Icon Siam on foot, which is perfectly possible. This street is surprisingly interesting.
Gary, you are so lucky to be in Thailand. Today I had the absolute worst brunch ever in Texas… 5 jerk seasoned shrimp that were smaller than pinky finger sized for US$15! WTF. I’ll be back to Bangkok in a month.
@garybutler Im begging to think your biased to a certain area for good food..Is it really so that the best street type food is in this areas?.You been all up in the same map area-ish for all the videos I've seen. Is it cause you live that way?? Haha I live the opposite side of most your "restaurants" you post so im being biased of making go so far for food Hahaha
Haha, definitely biased yes but I love this side BECAUSE of the food. There’s great food everywhere in Bangkok but this side of the river is just better for me personally. That’s why I usually say that I’m not telling people to specifically come to restaurants I feature just to get out in general and eat. Unless it’s the first one in this video, I’d fly from England for this haha
Arh Gary mate I still Dream of this place thanks so much for taking uS ,there what a great day we met Shall never forget such an experience. All the best mate Del and Leigh
Hi, I have just come across your channel. You speak very well Thai. How did you learn it? Please share. I like that you try more local food. Can't wait for our trip
Great segment. Can’t wait to get back to Thailand. I’ll be there in November and these places are now on my list to visit. Thank you for a good rundown of each place and the differences and how they prepare the pad Thai.
The first and the last would be my choice, but I would reverse it and do the Bang Sakae first and the Narok Taek as the closer. All good, but those are the stars for me. Narok Taek is probably the first place I would want to get to when I finally get back there..
What I look for before ordering padthai, if possible, is to see if there is a bowl of sugar on the cooking table. If there is, I give it a miss. Even if there isn't, I'd still give it a miss given the choice, as I hate sweet padthai.
Pad thai is supposed to be sweet. Even if you don’t see white sugar in the kitchen, the palm sugar must have been already mixed in the sauce and sorry to tell you that you must have to skip all pad thai shops in Thailand as a Thai I’m 100% sure they will have sugar in their condiments on each table
The first one for me.... YUM!! There used to be a Pad Thai lady in the Muslim market (Silom near Suriwong ) in the evenings back in the 1990s that was (Chef's Kiss)
All great picks! "covered in Ketchup" LOL the only one I've had that was worse was covered in BBQ sauce. Great work done for us humble travelers, keep it up!
You didn't arrive in time at Pad Thai Soi Phetkasem 28. Near your house Ordinary shop but good taste Now he's not selling anymore. I don't know what the reason is.
I’m seriously considering getting a charcoal fired wok burner for my backyard. Totally impractical for the climate here in Cardiff, but I could become an instant legend on the dining club scene here 😂
Gotta tell ya...not a Pad Thai fan but, these looked good. Will have to have a go when I get back. Thanks for the options to re-think and re-taste Pad Thai!
Gary, When we visited Thipsamai they said that the pink colouring and ‘uniqueness’ of their pad Thai comes from using shrimp paste to instead of tamarind (if I remember correctly) . I had always thought if it was pink they had used ketchup but I wonder if others use shrimp paste??
Can’t wait! Will be in Bangkok in a week! Keep up the great work Gary 🤝
Hope you enjoy it!

Pad Thai Narok Taek is so good, they may not have a long history but their foods are worth it!
The first wok-hay Padthai is quite interesting one!!
I think it would change a little of opinions about pad Thai
@@theroamingcook I honestly have never tasted the wok-hay Padthai style. I may try to do for myself.

Thanks so much, I’ll check them out! Mae Leo has been on my list for ages!
Pad thai is rubbish. Takoyaki is the best Thai food and powdered Thai tea is the best drink.
I think you’ll find powdered meat in sticks is number one
@EllisWR You have played around wirh very local Thai dishes. For me as a Thai, I have more interesting dishes. I also am not padthai fan as well.

I see you eat the shrimp with the “poop” , euphemistically called a vein, and the shrimp head, eyes and all. Does it not bother you?
Not at all
For me no.1 pad Thai is Pad Thai Kikuya rachawong rd.yaowarach it’s simply delicious since1965.
Yes I love that one too!
That's the best pad thai mate I have ever seen. Must try. Keep up the good work. Thank you for all you do

Gary is very lovely ❤️ Thank you all love and visit Thailand ,welcome sir
Nice to see some variations on the bog standard versions you normally get around the kingdom.

Will need to try one of these places as I am not a fan of Pad Thai (Diggy)
You’ve got go to the first one!
Went to the last place (under the bridge) and the pad thai was amazing! Thank you for your tips!
Glad you enjoyed it Pedro 🙏🙏

I’ve still never had a pad Thai. May ask rak Thai to make me one Thai style & not island style with ketchup 🤣
What a most enjoyable video Gary.
Some grest variations of a great dish.

Never fell out of love with it. 😂 My favorite in Thailand. Only really had one bad dish their myself

Gary, you looked like you were in love with that third Pad Thai!😊
Gary, When we visited Thipsamai they said that the pink colouring and ‘uniqueness’ of their pad Thai comes from using shrimp paste to instead of tamarind (if I remember correctly) . I had always thought if it was pink they had used ketchup but I wonder if others use shrimp paste??
Original pad Thai use tamarind as main.
Traditional pad thai use tamarind as main.
Yes but Thipsamai don’t use tamarind. They use shrimp paste.
Not shrimp paste, but shrimp fats from the head (mun goong).
Gary mate, it's driving us nuts, what does the tattoo on the side of your left palm say? 😅
It says ‘I had too many Singhas and got a tattoo’ 😅
