The little build was built as a service station in 1920. It has been a number of things since then including a build used to sell things like a tiny flea market/garage sale, a stand to sell BBQ etc. It is a very cool little place and was back in the day. It's a reminder of what a cool place Warren used to be. The empty lot next door where you saw the tracks used to be Warren Printing Co. You know, stationary, invitations, and the like. My uncle used to work there. My mom was born here in 1928. I was born in Cleveland in '66 and have been in the area my whole life. It's not great here right now but we are trying to revive our small city. I can walk to my house from where you were. We still have a lot of historical things here like a part of the underground railroad, Millionaire's Row on Mahoning Ave, celebrities were born here, Neil Armstrong took he first flight in an airplane right down the road from this place you were at, you probably saw the model of the spacecraft www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/10947 so we have a lot to offer if one just looks. I believe there is beauty in decay and a lot can be learned if you listen to the past especially in abandoned spaces.
@@anime29 That whole corner of Parkman Rd. , the old Rent a Center, the old tiny gas station and the printers is all gone. Even the Hardee's building across the street is gone. Where on the North end are you?
The little gas station was my first job in 1980... It was owned by Ron and Phyllis mullet.. Ron did tune-ups starters alternators some exhaust basically Ron was one hell of a mechanic.. also did a lot of undercoating on the lift outside.. used to be a bonded gas station across the street also used to be a bar called The Crystal inn.. and you can also not see which is gone on the left side of the gas station was a laundromat then you had the print shop then you had Ron mullet and phyllis's house. Ron and Phyllis had two boys David and Ryan mullet.. rons Mom and Dad owned the local print shop.. I also work there helping him print tickets for Harding and reserve football games.. miss working there.. all gone know
Great finds. I love old buildings. Thanks to all the people in the comments, for the info on the places. Always nice to have some history. Great video, keep em coming. Thank you for documenting the places before they are gone. I remember colortyme, from many many years back.
Great explores Dude! you rock and your Awesome! this Explore inspired Alt Lyrics in me. to the B52's Song "Love Shack" there's a creepy old shack at the side of the road. The Love Shack is a little old place where We can get together Love Shack baby A Love Shack baby Creepy Lil shack, Creepy Lil Shack!
That is a way cool little old gas station! You might be able to find info on that building either at the local public library there, or maybe city hall records. Would be pretty neat to find the history and the stories behind.., great find as usual! I love little old places like that.
In 1975 it was listed as the Garrettsville Gas and Oil Company. The lot on the corner about a block down, there is a coffee shop sign there, used to be a Burger Chef!
At one time it was a gas station.. I met the new owner in 1980 Ron mullet .. he worked on cars as a mechanic and had a lift outside which he worked on cars in undercoated.. I started working for him at the age of 12.. you cannot see but there used to be a print shop and a house behind the gas station.. Ron mullet's mother and father own The print shop in Ron live next door to the print shop.. I started working for Ron at the age of 12 and work for him for almost 20 years there he also had a machine shop behind the gas station which is no longer there along with the house and the print shop is all gone. Ron now lives in leavittsburg and still works on cars and rebuilds motors.. run mullet is 68 years old today and is still working on cars..
This place Closed Way Back in the Mid 90's. Got Robbed a few times Then they gave up and close it down. There was a Bonded Gas station across the street. It was taken down probably around 1997. The Empty Lot Next to the old Building was a Very Crappie Laundry Mat. It was torn down I think in 2015. As far as the Tiny Gas station. I have no idea what it ever was or when it closed. I got my drivers license in 1987 and I remember seeing it empty back then.
I called Ron to let him know about this video that he had to see it as I was up 2021 the building is gone it has been tore down also.. I was asking Ron who the people was in the photo album he was going to look at the video and get back to me.. me and Ron has been friends ever since I started working for him at the age of 12 Ron and his wife Phyllis are doing well and live in leavittsburg Ohio..
I heard that Rent-a-Center and Colortyme merged but both brands are active. They are rent to own stores which rent items by the week or month and charge very high rates for doing so.
@Stephen Hinkle Yeah, it's never wise to rent-to-own anything from RAC or Colortyme. They charge an average of twice as much as what you can buy the same item for at a retailer. For example, a PS4 Pro costs $399 at GameStop. The same thing costs $1,000 at Rent-A-Center. And if you don't pay that off within 90 days, it turns into a lease with an interest rate between 43% and 468%, except in New Jersey, where state law sets a 30% cap. The cheaper the item is (like a cell phone), the higher the interest rate, because Rent-A-Center still charges rents that can exceed the original cash price of the item, and the customer is required to pay that sum within a smaller time period.
When you are on interstate 80 west, you take exit 224 to route 11 south. When you r on route 11, you stay on that road until exit 39, and make a left then. The kmart is not that far away after u make the turn.
Based on what I'm finding on Google Street View it started out as a ColorTyme rental store, then it seems that sometime around 2011 (possibly a little sooner) it switched to a "Vernon Sales & Rentals" and then closed. I could be wrong but I don't see any signage from Rent A Center in the Street View shots. Thought I'd let everyone know :)
Those railroad tracks have definitely been out of service for some time. That old building has been condemned since early 2016? Probably can't afford to knock it down right now. Who knows?
Interesting Wallie,Warren,Ohio where Rock star Dave Grohl Foo fighters~Nirvana fame grew up there.Boy were you close to the awesome Hot Dog Shoppe closer into town on US 422 hope you got to have chili cheese dogs with fries with chili cheese over top too.First place I go to when out that way Dad's company does business out there too. That intersection I pass through on way to Hot Dog Shoppe & Eastwood mall area am very familiar with it.First place was Colortyme,an electronics, appliances rental store. Is why bars all over Windows is a bad neighborhood there. Was a gas station next door the service garage next to it was just torn down are waiting on EPA approval to remove old gas tanks beside that building to take that down too. That railroad track goes directly to Cleveland's harbor iron ore pellet terminal that once supplied all of the ore pellets to all the steel mills, foundry's and Packard car factory in the Mahoning river valley. In fact the Packard car museum's just across the river from there.Looking @ Warren today is sad considering it's rich history.I don't get out there as much as I used to,last time I was there was in May.City took down several buildings around there and those two are next.Sadder still😢on Perkins Jones Rd.NE.is the huge regional distribution center for Kmart in Warren. When Kmart goes so does that in a place already battered by huge job losses.📉🆑
It's not a gas station or used to be a old flea market place the little building I used to go to it as a kid the building is color time and the other is the Olympic inn now the peace pub they had numerous shootings there and the little building has been closed since 98 96 and the color time closed 5 or 6 years ago
But I think before the little building was a antique flea market shop it was a gas station I know the vacant lot across the street used to be a gas station and gas land is right there there used to be a laundry matt there next to the little building and hardees was across from the gas land gas station

Homeplate Media I don’t remember that being a Burger Chef, but I do remember when it was a Hardee’s. Was it Burger Chef before Hardee’s?

That would make a great vintage restaurant!

Also a speedway in the empty field across the street
Just looked this address up on google maps...its been torn down. Just a dirt lot, as of Nov 2017
Probably originally a gas station and then a car lot with a lot that size. Owner of car lot maybe had a baby to watch while at work.
JPVideos that's a good possibility! Never thought about it being a car lot. Either way, I was so thrilled to explore that little thing!
wow that,s cool and loved the old texaco gas station vid as well
I called Ron to let him know about this video that he had to see it as I was up 2021 the building is gone it has been tore down also.. U should take a tour in north carolina and make videos!
I also wonder if that tiny building was perhaps a train station at one time.
That looks like a “Ma and Pa’s Gas Kettle” type of place. Probably been closed for many years.
HOW DID IT GO OUT OF BUSINESS
That place also used to be a RentWay also ive been in that building alot
I love this video
Great video! I didnt even know about this building. Can you film the closing big kmart in austintown, ohio?
littleboi4chopko littleboy4chopko is that one nearby? I filmed an abandoned Kmart on 422 in Warren when I was out there for this trip.
WallieB26 it is just a few miles west of Youngstown just off of Interstate 80.
When you are on interstate 80 west, you take exit 224 to route 11 south. When you r on route 11, you stay on that road until exit 39, and make a left then. The kmart is not that far away after u make the turn.
That kmart is on the same list as the moon township kmart. Liquidation sales start on november 9th. :(
littleboi4chopko littleboy4chopko yea I heard about that kmart too
