I need to see it in real life to access the size. IMO it looks like what the Cherokee SHOULD have been when it was updated and turned into the low swoopy "Cross - Over" thing. It should be I.C.E. and be $7K - $10K under the Wrangler at every trim level .
Yes, they were considering IFS for the wrangler, but that was just talk. Offroad capability was always the focus of the JL’s development and it was engineered by Jeepers… the problem is they had to refine it by corporate mandates. The increased price was corporate. The JL is extremely capable and easily modified to be even more capable. Jeep needs two or even three true offroad vehicles. One affordable LJ based offroad modern Jeep (solid axles, lockers, 33-35s, some modern advancements, hurricane Inline ICE power). I would call it the classic. Offer it in 2 and 4 door variants. It would look like a Jeep. Go after toy/second owner vehicle buyers, SXS owners, and even more old school Jeepers with this model. Then the other is the next gen JL. Same dimensions as modern Jeep. If Jeep still had the engineers that designed the JL, then they would be fine doing their thing. They could experiment a little with the next gen JL if we had that LJ classic. I’d still make it look like a Jeep. The buyers for this would be those who bought JKs, JLs, JTs. My hope is they would buy the next gen JL and the modern LJ. I would. The third Jeep would be a modern day XJ based Jeep. All of these models would be capable of doing the Rubicon Trail stock in their offroad trim. Jeep’s focus on luxury has been its downfall. If they returned to trying to build the best offroad vehicles, they would bring some of us back. I’ve owned Jeeps for 25 years… right now my next vehicle is either an old Jeep or gas generator Scout.
I'd like to see them make something like a street-legal side-by-side. Something TRULY back to basics, compact, and capable that few people would use as a daily driver. Give it a windshield, catalytic converters, crank-up windows, and maybe a heater and AC
Doug! Became a fan back in the day when you were making fun of every Jeep, talking about Jeep Culture, and keeping us updated on Jeep news. Thanks for giving us more of that these past few videos!
How much better would the wagoneer have been if it was based on the Gladiator platform and instead of a bed it had three rows of seats and more room in the 1st and 2nd row by moving the seats back a few inches?
The issue you’re seeing is, the R&D money is spent, the supply chain is set up, the tooling is made…. This is old regime stuff that’s too far along to kill, so it’s coming out… I suspect it’s original purpose will be updated with the rest of the go to market plan for the company. They have already announced they are keeping the Automatics in the V6… The rumblings are loud about the Hemi coming back to the Ram, as the only guy who wanted it dead was the ex ceo, and again the R&D/tooling etc still exists.. don’t easy, and I think that’s what you will short term are easy quick “fixes”… I’m interested to see what long term ideas they flush out.

I'd like to see something like the RAM Rev drivetrain, but with a VERY small, light ICE system....like a 2 or 3 cyl motorcycle engine. If you know you have a long drive, you turn it on as soon as you pull out of the garage and it keeps the battery more or less topped up. Maybe it puts out just enough power where the battery won't deplete while going 75 mph on level ground. Maybe the battery alone is relatively small with ~150-200 mile range to save cost and weight.
A small engine like that wouldn't have enough output to keep the battery charged. The v6 in the RAM hybrid can only keep up with towing on level ground but is at a net loss when climbing grades. A 2 cylinder engine would take hours to charge your battery even if it was parked.
@@Michael-1337 I wouldn't expect it to keep up indefinitely, and certainly not for towing. Not many tow with a Jeep. It's a "range extender" for your battery, not an alternative backup drivetrain
I want to see a renewable fuel alternative. There are plenty of good combustion vehicles and tools out there. We have the industry to harness, deliver and dispense fuel. Don't forget people who can't buy a new electric car to do so.

Extreme overlanding will kill an ev. The technology that will get it reliable will cost to much for the target market. Regular people wouldn't be able to afford it!
Hey man, may I use a brief snippet of this with link to your video in my next edit? I’m editing an EV offroad video and I talked about the recon in it. I was actually thinking of getting a recon as I wanted to test it offroad (Jeep said it could do the rubicon stock when they announced it). Plus I thought it would be funny if it left me stranded on the trail.
The 08 Liberty I have now will probably be ne newest I would ever go with Jeep. They have really lost their way and it's so sad. I can't wait to get my hands on an older model again.

First, Happy New Year buddy! Stellantis is for better words a joke anymore. Hey let's put out a new vehicle! Nevermind the issues at hand with recalls and the current trash in production. I really hope Stellantis falls on their face. Yup I'm pretty bitter with them.
Build a vehicle with no floorboards, no engine and a non rusting body, so it can be built up to a car from the Flintstones to a functional vehicle made with parts always available. 🤔 $5000.00
Will it come out anytime soon? It’s built on the Stella Large platform that underpins the much delayed Wagoneer S and Charger EV. Tavares rushed Stellantis brands to electrification before the vehicles were ready. Government mandates, both US and European, have ruined vehicles .
We really aren't going to have to worry about Stellantis/Jeep much longer, Jeep is due to be sold off if the past is any indicator, hopefully a serious car company like Toyota buys it, but with our luck it will probably be Hyundai/Kia to picks up the corpse.
I like the name but God the design is like a !@#$ XJ. The Wrangler should be Jeeps flagship of a line of capable off roaders. Bring back the Comando as the entry level Jeep, Resurrect the Renegade as the mid level and Wrangler at the top. 😊
