Thanks, I plan on doing this upgrade to my 02 ford ranger soon. I wanted to see if the 7" pioneer would fit my truck and I think it will workout just fine after seeing your install.
13:24 - those are the best bang-for-buck get-you-out-of-a-jam smaller-gauge wire strippers you can get ahold of from Harbor Freight, possibly Menards / Walmart and auto-parts stores when you just need to walk in somewhere and get you going with basic, minimum tools. I wouldn't use it to cut wires because I think over a short span of time it misaligns the stripper and also, as it's a weak point (because it's made of plastic),.IIRC, it can break the jaw assembly from my experience after having cut so much wire with it. I bought it as a cheap replacement to keep as a secondary stripper in another , smaller work bag we're only serves for wire stripping duties.
Great video! Thanks! I really appreciate how you demonstrated trimming the top and bottom of the factory dash to make the new stereo fit. Gave me the confidence to do my own an a 1996 Explorer! Worked great! Thanks! :)
.... 8:43 - I'll advise against cranking on pliers when using their jaws to snap off plastic on plastic dashboard pieces that are really getting up in age to the point where they're getting brittle and could crack through the entire piece - sending you to the salvage yard for a replacement you hope is in good enough condition. From experience here on another manufacturer but I can't imagine the Plastics are a whole lot different especially in the face of so much UV exposure at this point. 👍
I just bought the same one and installed it in my 1999 Ranger. It is a very basic touchscreen with bluetooth but it should do the job. I just wish it had Navigation.
Hi dude. I bought the exact same kit as you showed. I wondered wich color did you connect with the orange wire of the stereo (TFT dimmer +) because there is no Orange/White (dimmer +) wire with the cables that came with the plastic dash kit. I connected the Orange (TFT dimmer +) with the Orange (illumination) of the kit. Is that what you did cause mine doesn't work, and we see in the video that you're not using the Orange/Black of the dash kit. Also mine is the B4000 and i have another set of wires that was plugged into the factory stereo. I checked the 3 fuses link to radio in the passenger fusebox and they're all ok. What do you think about it? Thank you.
Generally the adapter from the dash kit would match the wiring colors from the aftermarket stereo. Red to red, yellow to yellow, etc... Steteo and the dash kit both should have diagram on them you can double check colors to match. Also you can check with multimeter you should get 12v when lights on and 0 when off on the dimmer wire. Side note I've seen stereos before that doesn't have dimming functionality.
@@NWCI Yes I double checked the wiring colors: the stereo has an Orange (dimmer +) and the dash kit wire has Orange/Black (dimmer -) and Orange (illumination). On the little paper of the dash kit wires it says Orange/White (dimmer +) but there is no Orange/White wire in the dash kit. So I connected Orange with Orange. I guess I'll have to check current with the multimeter. Thanks for the advice and quick response.
@@mikec1195 , What have you found out since, have you gotten the dimmer functionality to work? @@That_Handle I tested if I have power on the red wire and there wasn’t. So I plugged it on the nearest cigar lighter ans put a fuse on that by-pass. Power is now back. So all the wires were well connected, the power wire of the car was the problem.

Hey man sick diy video I to want to but a newer radio in my ranger what is that adapter piece called
Dash kit with wiring harness
How's it holding up?
Still works 🙂
will this work for a 97 ford ranger ?
What aftermarket connector did you use to go from the old ranger connector?
I used a dash kit bought on ebay. Looking at the video part number fm-k9510dd.
Great detail & explanation
The link to the kit at eBay didn’t work for me
Do you have the kit model and who makes it
Thanks again
I go to metra website metraonline.com/
Then fill in the car info, see what kit fits my needs and then search the model of that kit into eBay or Amazon
Great Idea. Found a kit quite fast. Thanks
Great job great video thanks!
which prefered dash kit ?
Just went on ebay and selected one.
where did you buy the cables
Off ebay
What size screen is that? I wanna put one on my truck. I have a 2000 ford ranger same as you.
Standard double din 7" stereo
How big works??
So far so good.
Do you still need the truck antena if you have one of those?
Yes, generally aftermarket stereos have weaker radio signal.
After 3 months how do you rate it?

nice video, does the original radio have an Aux?
No, just cassette player, but it didn't work very well.

Factory stereo was terrible on it, so anything is better.
Cut battery power or pull radio fuse before doing electrical work
