Finally found a video on someone installing a similar stereo on a Ranger. Glad you pointed out a way besides the metra kit, almost gave up on the project. Thank you so much!
Wow ! I just bought a 99 XLT Ranger for my farm and I'm thinking in getting an android screen radio for it to replace the radio it has, I just can believe I have the same Pioneer radio you had. LOL Great video man !
I know this video is 5 years old but for anybody else mounting a new Double Din and has gaps or a rough bezel edge you can strip the insulation off an electrical cord, cut it down the center then glue it in place over the bezel edge. Fit it like a saddle on a horse. If you have them, some small clamps will be helpful to hold the insulation in place while the glue sets up. The clamps also flatten out the insulation a bit so it doesn't look rounded. Cheers! EDIT..I Missed the part where you mention the wire jacket....oops.
I just finished an install for a guy, he had a 2005 ford ranger. I tried 3 different scosche kits and none fit. Bought the American International and 2 Metra kits. Used 1 Metra but had 2 trim but its seems snug but the very bottom of the corner of the kit sticks out slightly because of the curve of the dash trim/bezel.
Lots of helpful info here many people might not realize, I came here looking for alternatives to shaving trim on factory dash bezel in Ranger but when I installed one of the android systems like that in my Tacoma that front bezel gave me a fit. Other than those little pieces of info I would never jerry rig my shit like this lol, I plan on putting the factory radio back in when I sell the truck.
Well the best thing to do is what I did. I bought a spare radio bezel (the whole black part of the dash) from a junk yard and cut it up. That way I can always put it back to stock if I want to. I wouldnt really consider it jerry rigged. Its a custom fabrication. :)
@@JackofAllMasterofNone that is the way to go for sure, after looking at all possible options (which weren't many) I ordered the Amer. Int'l kit and I'll custom fabricate it and cop a spare bezel from the scrap yard. You had the most helpful video on the sublect, thanks for sharing.
l wouldn't worry about it really. l mean it's a ford ranger, nobody gets in one of those things with clean and beauty in mind. it won't hurt anything if there is a little gap.
@@LivingLifeN704 did you ever find the right harness? I’m installing a stereo in a 2000 explorer and the radio harness that was sent from best buy worked but the amplifier harness is too small.
Great video! Its cool how it's got the Ford logo on start-up. Is that standard or a setting it comes with? Very nice back up camera as well. Thats a big help on the trail.
I'm thinking about buying a 03 Ford Ranger and wanting to know did you have to buy anything else like any adapters, I'm thinking about putting it on by myself or have someone else put it on since this is my first time putting a aftermarket radio in. If there is anything that I'll be needing to get it to fit can you please tell me or link the product. Thank you.
get good double sided tape, you can get the clear one and use the trim ring. you just have to make sure the area is free of oil,wax dirt and it should stick pretty good.
I bought a sony. My installer never removed all that front panel . Just fitted the radio in after some trimming, and the radio is kind of loose, easy to remove if stolen.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone alright I ordered a 7 inch radio I hope it will fit it's a slim back one doesn't go as deep into the truck hopefully not to much cutting thanks for the reply
+Tyler Miller you can get that head unit on Amazon or Ebay. The Back-up Camera you just have to supply power from the back up lights and run the wires up to the front. There are plenty of videos on RUclips on how to hook up a backup camera.
+Tyler Miller The radio can be purchased on amazon or ebay. Just search double din android. The backup camera must be wired in. There is no specific way but most people wire it in to their backup lights. There are many videos here on youtube how to install a backup camera.
Doubt you'll respond to this as this video is 3 years old, but I'm going to attempt installing a pioneer AVH-X490BS in my 97 explorer and I can't seem to find the wiring harness/tools to change it out. I'm trying to get everything from amazon, as I have rewards points that I'm using to get it for free. If anyone can help me out It'd be extremely appreciated. Or can anyone point me in the right direction for the connections if they aren't available on amazon?
Radio removal tools amzn.to/3oAC85a Those can be tricky depending on if you have an external amp or not. If you want to retain the factory amp use this harness. amzn.to/3taiocd I personally recommend bypassing it, but it is a complicated process. If you don't have a factory amp you will need this harness most likely amzn.to/3csfg5y
That would NOT fit a 1998 Explorer (2002 Crown Victoria uses the same radio) because those are beveled down to a single DIN just a few inches in to clear the HVAC vents.
it wont be here tell next month but i knew there would be complications with the face plate (painted seahawks metalic blue with a neon green pin stripe)so i will slowlly and evanly remove matirial tell it fits leaving top better than the non visable bottom and fabricate metal brackets for the sides but so i dont remove to mutch il lick it with my toung tell it fitts instead of my dremel hey the face plate has 3 coats of clear GO HAWKS!
I was gonna ask the same thing! Having gps without using your phone is nice. But where did you put the gps sensor? Did it have a big circle white thing like garmin does for off road trucks?

I have a Ranger 1995 and buy a JVC KW-AV61BT it comes with the same plastic adapter you show and fits perfect without any gap.

Beautiful video
Where do I get those brackets where they snap into place like factory
Is the wiring pretty much self explanatory? Did you have to buy any adaptors or anything? I have the same truck and i want to install one.
Yes. Just use the correct wiring kit for your year Ranger / Explorer and its wire for wire color match

How long did it take to modify the trim to get it to fit I ordered one a week ago. For my 02 ranger I thought they were a full 2 Din....
Took about 30 minutes. They are a full 2 din for american standard size radios, but not european
