- Johnny Cash & Waylon Jennings perform "Folsom Prison Blues" at Farm Aid in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985.
A performance from the first Farm Aid benefit concert. Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. The show was put together in six weeks and was held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, Illinois before a crowd of 80,000 people. It raised over $9 million for America's family farmers. Performers included Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and many more.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

Who misses Johnny & Waylon.?
I do, nothing will ever be like these legends, bless you my friend.
Jason Jones I sure do!
I do and i wasn't even a big country music fan.
Jason Jones I miss Johnny cash and wialon
Never seen them but wish I did 😫😫
Funny how guitarists today have 10 different guitars to play a show. Waylon and that Tele are legendary. One guitar, one man.
Well if ya got different tunings ah al Chris Cornell it's fine you need too.
i think there were actually 5 identical guitars, but if you want to talk about an iconic guitar, Willie Nelson's Trigger comes to mind.
Waylon used two sometimes.
Waylon had multiple Tele's in that style. Like another commenter said, Trigger is the real deal!
"Waylons guitar had that twang!"
Waylon doing Luther Perkins. Doesn't get any better than this.
Waylon was a beast on guitar.....very underrated!
the ending of Lucille was great.
There’s a reason why he played bass for buddy holly, the man never gets enough credit for what he can do with them strings.
@@danegoodman3226
Buddy Holly
Is the one that Waylon did a coin toss with of who was going to be in the plane that crashed with Buddy in it.?
@@jasonjones8768 No. Waylon tossed coin with The Big Bopper, but Buddy was also in the crash as was Ritchie Valens
@@lassimiettinen8044
Oh that's right, it was
the Big Bopper - i knew it was one of them he did a coin toss with,
thanks for the reminder..
Two of the most important country musiic legends together.
Exactly! I love George Jones, Merle is great, but these two literally changed everything. John helped bridge the gap between young and old and cross pollinated genres. His TV show celebrated MUSIC not country, jazz, Rock, etc. it was about good music period. Waylon fought for artists to have creative freedom and he made country music funky and loose. He let mikes bleed into one another creating an organic sound that was lost in Nashville. (too slick and polished) As soon as John and Waylon's sales dipped ( for them) Nashville cut them loose. But guess what? We're still playing their music and Nashville wishes they had artists like them. How's that for hyperbole? (All true though)
s Luce Johnny was my hero
Yes they're the best.
Or I may simply be a single drop rain.... I'll back again and again and again and again... they'll live forever in my heart.
Yes, i allways liked Willie & Waylon

Waylon Waylonized it with that guitar solo!
You hit it, when it's Waylonized there aint anything better. Bless you my friend, not many understand music that was Waylonized.
Johnny is my distant relative through my grandmothers side. Man what a talent.
He is a distant relative of mine too through my Nana.
Two kings together.Ain't nothing better. Thanks for posting.
My top two favorite singers are Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.
Shifting. Whisper sands
Us baby boomer's witnessed the greatest music in history. In nearly every genre. As you can tell, the young'ins can't even come close to competing.Cheers !
James Avery No, but maybe the middle aged ones can.
I attended this event in 1985 was awesome
nice
I've allways wanted to see
The Highwaymen live with
Willie & Kris, but I was only 13 when Waylon was the first to go..
My Brother & i played the Dukes of Hazzard song all day that day
Lucky
Johnny Cash song with a Waylon-style solo, BY WAYLON. awesome!

“Two-of-a-Kind” right here Folks...then they broke the mold.
R.I.P. Johnny, Waylon
Waylon Jennings was one damn awesome guitar picker.🎸
I so miss them both...
Oh God yes why did they have to die? They were't so very old
Glen Diabetes took Waylon
Johnny lost June...
Dan Mahoney Yes I know.....
It's sad .. Yes music hasn't been the same .. Rip guys
I saw johnny cash with the highwaymen in sydney in 1993 was terrifc to see him live as he is one of my favorite singers
Doesn't get any better than this.
"20"
Every line branded in Johnny's face tells it's own unique story. He was a walking deity. Now serves at the foot of the Lord.
Why would anyone give a thumbs down to this?
These new guys of Country Music can't touch Waylon , Johnny 💜
Just think the stories these 2 could tell, WOW!!!
like what? About guitar strings breaking and buses breaking down?
Yeah they could tell stories about drinking moonshine and raping pigs in the woods
Anyone who hates this song can pound sand.
2 country legends , a timeless song and a great live performance:perfect!
Listen to that ovation from the crowd. I just got goosebumps when that classic guitar line kicked off and he started singing here. I wore out my father's "Live at San Quentin" album when I was a kid, and I was more of a rock fan than a country music fan. I clearly remember a convict on that album yelling out "Where's Luther Johnny?" Johnny explained that Luther Perkins had just passed away recently. I did not know who Luther was then, but boy I do now! Johnny Cash has always been cool -which is why he was able to get so many great rock stars to guest on his TV show in the late 1960's. They knew he was the "real deal."
This was the day I learned to love Johnny Cash. In person, he was soooo amazing. Was lucky to be there that day.
Two of The Greatest Classic Country singers of all time.
Johnny and Waylon two amazing originals
Saw the Johnny Cash roadshow last night. Closest thing I'll ever get to seeing anything of his alive. Was amazing. Waylon and Johnny are sorely missed.
It doesn't get better than this. R.I.P. to two music legends.
The men in black. RIP guy's
Heaven must have a helluva concert going on...
Ks Sk better music in heaven than down here especially with today’s trash country
1:35 JR couldn't be happier at that moment while The Hoss was inpressing the hell out of Luther
There will never be another like these two. Pure magic together.
can you imagine these guys playing at their homes together, they must have a ball, and you can tell they are best friends. this was my husband`s favorite song by Johnny Cash and i lost him last Monday after38 years of marriage. today is our anniversary so i`m playing this for him. God bless Johnny and Waylon, may they R.I.P.
I can’t wait to hear the music in heaven! All the best are there!
This is truely my favorite version of this song by Johnny Cash
WOW 2020 sitting here smashed loving this song! Big love to you all from Leicester England
i am big johnny cash fan
do you know that big John has carried that guitar on his back for ever. he was always ready to sing. loved him
Sure wished I saw this in person. Love this singing
As I always say,"Two of the John Wayne's of country music right there". It was cool to see them both doing Folsom together. Cash had that big voice and Waylon added his signature picking to the song.
Two of the three most badass, and inluential musicians of all time (the third being George Jones of course). Awesome post man... much appreciated!
id say 2 of the four, haggard was really talented as well
Jones was a singer, not a musician.
at 22 years old I was there for the whole show. Memories
Can anyone imagine what being backstage with those two would be like, I’m sure it was awesome!!
Their all the greatest entertainer's on the planet I sure miss the ol'school outlaw country music
This is pure delight. Great quality, too. Timeless artists, both JC and Waylon.
Farm Aid should be as big today as it was back in 1985. We all should be ashamed of that.
Boy do I miss these guys, one thing I got out my parents always at the bar, I grew to RESPECT these guys and many more, todays music will NEVER replace this
This is definitely in the top three category for two legends on the same stage at the same time. I'm sure it's #1 for many opinion.
You forget about the the Highwaymen? That was four legends on the same stage at the same time!
Most people don't know what a great guitarist Waylon was...
Love both him and John!
Love the sound of ol Waylon’s talacaster he is the man
Waylon doin Luther’s part. Just freakin awesome. Puts his own “waymore” twang to it. Great stuff.
I cried when they died each one of them was my hero
Johnny cash will always be the REAL KING OF ROCK IN ROLL RIP JOHNNY CASH
Big John always carries that guitar on his back. love you John
Man alive, how perfect is this?!
both trying to hide their pill addiction from one each other (tales from the tour bus). great performances!
FANTASTIC rock and roll blues song. LOVE IT !
This put faith back in human race... Blown away ofcourse by the vocals.. but sublime is the relationship here.. so much respect and Love...
Isn't it just amazing, that people with real talent, don't need a bunch of electronics to sound good. It's just them, and a mic. and a guitar!
am i the only one who went to this concert? if anyone else went, let me know, that was the most awesome concert ive ever been to, and i have been to ALOT. i got a few pics.but wanted to see if anyone had video,as i remember, cameras werent allowed,so i snuck mine and 6 rolls of film in under my breast.the talent there, those 3 days definitely was as good as woodstock.if u dont believe me look up the lineup.i still have a t-shirt with the names of the people that were there.THE GREATEST!
TANDY9091 my parents went. lol.
I went to the concert. I was a sophmore in college. I remember it being a kind of cold and rainy day but a incredible show
The woman who posted above went
Love em both.. they were wide open in my era. 70's... Sure miss those days but still listen religiously.. 🕊️🕊️
Absolutely top shelf!! They don't make entertainment this great anymore,...truly sad
Two Fine Musicians, 😍💕💯 RIP Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, 😢
2 of the best to ever do it. Nobody today can match what these icons did.
I wonder if Merle ever joined them in concert ...he was another bad ass.....J Cash, Waylon, Merle, Kris and Willie
in concert would of been the ultimate country event.
Waylon didnt like merle
Then... add Kenny Rogers, that would be the greatest country group of all time
Walon is having a great time, I think he started the party early, great video

The Best of the Best.
Johnny cash
Johnny Cash is the only artist in the Country Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Song Writers Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
Johnny Cash was a living god, right up to the day he died. The greatest names in Blues, Rock, and Country worshipped him.
To me, the most remarkable thing is, despite his status, he didn't go the full Elvis, perhaps because he started as a gospel singer. I'm not a Christian, but Johnny Cash was holy.
Been listening to this music nearly my whole life and still my favrioute
Two of the best badboys.
I heard John first then waylon then I hoped they would get together then they did how great they were
You know it my friend.
The 13 people that disliked this have no soul. I am not a fan of country music... but these are two talents that will never be equaled in their influence.
I was lucky enough to see Johnny cash with June carter cash back in 1998 in Laconia N.H.
Play row the boat don't tip the boat over
Two true American legends right there.. Rest Well Sirs your music is missed
I went to this concert to see Sammy Hagar as a birthday present however, it is astounding how many legends were there to perform. BB King, Orbison, Beach Boys, the rockers, amazing to think about 33 years later.
I do man what a pair of Singers ,,They will be missed you bet cheers
Johnny cash....yeahhh!one of the best country artist of all times...
I've always liked this song. I've always liked Johnny and Waylon. so to see this, it's wonderful. makes me wish i could have seen this.
We all miss them so much! They can never be replaced! Never!!
It doesn't get better than this!!!
The King of Country....Mr Johnny Cash.......That was so good it was bad......and I mean Bad Good.Hell Yeah!!....I reckon he's still playin in that Great Gig in the Sky.Missed but not ever forgotten.
I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die
Thanks for this gem! 1985...whew! seems like just yesterday it was on cable.
ICONS!
Could you imagine being one of the musicians on this tour? Oh man the stories and shenanigans to share ❤️
That 1st farm aid concert Was awesome It was as good if not better then live aid just a great great show so many great performers personally I did make it there but I had family members that lived in Illinois and they said it was unbelievable I did watch it live on MTV that was cool.
I may never get over the passing of Roy Orbison,.. Johnny Cash,.. and Elvis but their music will live forever. Three of the most incredible voices God ever sent the world... R.I.P. Big O... The Man in Black..and The King.
Could listen to this every day!
Two legends👍
Cash is such a badass, American icon of music!
The 2 GREATEST in Country Music!!!
