Waylon 5 min to lights 30 seconds later not lopsided (ifyaknowyaknow) walks up 8 riser steps gives a twist off his hat an ease into that blast of adrenaline. Lord I ms ya hoss it was truly a long time ago.
You're right. The music is once again controlled by executives, not by the artists. Waylon was responsible for improving the quality and realness of the music. I don't listen to country anymore because they've shifted away from what he did.
love the music, this is what country music is. singing about their life and others. people with the way to express what the rest of cannot put into words, let alone in a song...... miss the good old days. but am very happy for what they gave us.
Ernest Tubb said, “If your mama heard you playing guitar on the radio, would she know it was you?” It only takes about 5 notes, and you know it’s Waylon. Probably less if your ears are in practice 😂.
This show was recorded just after I first met Waylon & Jessi (Dec. 1979). Brings back a lot of good memories. I also had the pleasure of meeting James Garner at one of Waylon's shows soon after this one.
The year I was born. What an amazing performance by the king of country, and James Garner in the audience, the world is just not as cool as it was back then.
Mr. Lucky's was THE place to go for many years. My parents used to go there almost every Saturday night. They saw Waylon a few times and he always rocked the place
Incredible when I drive by the old Mr Luckys on Grand Ave here in Phoenix and think he played there one day. Its closed now and only memories of fun weekends. Just like Waylon...
Watching this footage from 1980 makes me wish I could travel back in time so I could stop for a visit to Mr. Lucky, watch Waylon Jennings live in concert, shake hands with James Garner, tip my hat to Jessi Colter, and let a few people know that 2023 is going to suck so enjoy 1980.
Wow, those were truly the days. My brother and I had a restaurant and bar, with a little campground up in Idaho back in the day. We had more fun than you could ever imagine. Those days are so sadly gone. My brother has passed, just like the good old days. God, how I miss them both.
Yep, Hank Williams Junior played a big part o them days. Even the Possum was still around trying to sneak some lines and whiskey in, during his "sober" days. I think in the end they all got sober. I think. Or they say they did. lol.
I had the good fortune and the privilege to see Waylon almost every Friday night at FRIDAYS, a Club in the Riverbottom, between Scottsdale and Tempe in the early 60's. 😊
I saw Waylon at Mr. Lucky's in about 1969, Years later got to know him and some of his band in Jackson WY, when they played there at a friend's bar. A hell of a singer for sure.
Heh heh ..awesome! I remember this show from when I was a teenager, and had just discovered Waylon, who soon became my idol. I no longer listen to country music, but I still love and miss him!
Country up stairs,Rock and roll down. If you loved it in the day, don't drive by today. Closed and abandoned...Time marches on,unfortunately...Miss you Waylon.
The staff at Mr Luckys were fucking pricks! Nobody wanted to put up with their shit! A lot of us would go to Buddy's rock & roll place just down the road.
I saw Waylon in Chandler Az., he was driving a black American car of some kind, not a caddy or a Lincoln , any way I had a Chevy pickup no air so I had the windows down and Waylon up; I made eye contact with the guy in the car at a four way stop and he gave me a thumbs up, which I returned with a mystified look, then he pointed at his face with both hands, at which I gave him two thumbs up and a big grin. Then he touches the brim of his hat as he crossed the intersection, it was hot that day but boy was that cool!
Good Hearted Woman.. My whole youth my dad was always in a C&W band or just in jam sessions at someone's house or even our house. This was the song he would sing to my Mom every time. Grew up just down the road from Mr. Lucky's too. Great memories.
Use to live at this joint and danced till it closed in the seventies, sad it is closed because I would certainly give it another go, waylon your are missed as well.
Always one of my favorite singers ever since my Dad explained who was singing the song to my favorite TV show at that time, the Dukes of Hazard. Well he scheduled a Prineville, Or concert in 1990 and I must have been the first to buy tickets. But 2 days before he was scheduled to come to town he canceled due to problems with his diabetes. I was heart broken. But he came back in 1991 and sang his heart out!! I will never forget that concert and I will never grow tired of listening to Waylon!!
I lived at 35 ave and Camelback back in the day and grew up in north Phoenix just off Bell rd Unless you lived in the 80`s you will never understand why we look at my kids staring at their phones and shake our heads. life is so Heavy now like its almost a burden. back then life seemed lighter, fun ohh well anyways Thank you so much for uploading this WOW
Saw him in many places. I especially remember a gig at Max's Kansas City in NYC. Small room...like a private show it was. Thought I'd lose my mind!...Waylon, Ralph Mooney and Richie Albright...never forget it!
I was there… J David is a life long family friend. My brother played at Lucky’s with Western Bred for years. Btw; when he said he had gotten into a lot of trouble at Lucky’s a long time ago… that was just a month ago… 😉 A truly amazing musician and a great guy. I was always begging my parents to allow me to stay up until the jam sessions ended… wonderful memories.

I have been to Waylon’s grave site. Waylon is buried in Jessi’s family plot, close to Jessi’s mom and dad. There is an empty space beside Waylon for Jessi when she passes. Waylon’s gravestone is flat, and looks like it is made of black granite. An image of Waylon is etched on the stone. Engraved on the stone is a verse from “Belle Of The Ball”: “A Vagabond Dreamer, A Writer And Singer Of Songs”. Waylon always said that “Belle Of The Ball” was the favorite of all the songs that he wrote. Also inscribed are the words “I Am My Beloved’s, My Beloved Is Mine”. On the right side of the stone are the words “A Wonderful Son, Brother, Husband, Father and Grandfather”. Waylon’s gravestone is certainly in sharp contrast to the grossly elaborate gravestones of people like George Jones, and Johnny and June Carter Cash. It is a simple but beautiful gravesite that is appropriate for a down to earth and humble man like Waylon Jennings was.

Hard to believe he's only 43 here, so young. What a fucking legend.
If it wasn't for drugs, maybe he was still alive
43,,,0ne Year OLDER THEN ELVIS WHO DIED AUGUST 16th,1977 at the age of 42..
I was Employed by Waylon, 1985 to 1996. Never met a more down to earth man. Still have several keepsakes he Gave me on my last days.
Ooh great story Sir. Thank you!
You're right. The music is once again controlled by executives, not by the artists. Waylon was responsible for improving the quality and realness of the music. I don't listen to country anymore because they've shifted away from what he did.
Amen brother. The 70s, 80s and some 90s was it.
You can still listen to country. That is why it was recorded!
UMG is owned by the whiff. Your government is too hunny.
Yep, and we need to keep all the good old stuff in circulation.
Old school country only
Just drove and stopped by Mr Lucky’s recently. Just tried to capture that old vibe. Greatest talent there ever was.
love the music, this is what country music is. singing about their life and others. people with the way to express what the rest of cannot put into words, let alone in a song...... miss the good old days. but am very happy for what they gave us.
Waylon is a dangerous guitar player. Seriously good.
Waylon could make his guitar talk that's for sure
Ernest Tubb said, “If your mama heard you playing guitar on the radio, would she know it was you?” It only takes about 5 notes, and you know it’s Waylon. Probably less if your ears are in practice 😂.
Outstanding.
This is the real Country Music. Never be another Waylon.
Struggle Jennings (his grandson) doing well...and holding the name sound.

I agree he was one of a kind gone but never forgotten
I love the way he always called Jessi..."my better half." They were so good together.
This show was recorded just after I first met Waylon & Jessi (Dec. 1979). Brings back a lot of good memories. I also had the pleasure of meeting James Garner at one of Waylon's shows soon after this one.
