Hit-and-run claims lives of two Nevada State Troopers

- Two highway patrol troopers were killed after they were struck by a vehicle on a Las Vegas freeway early Thursday morning, Nevada State Police said.
Authorities identified the victims as Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix.
Sergeant Michael Abbate, badge #304, began the Department in December 2013 and was recently promoted to Sergeant in November 2023.
Trooper Alberto Felix, badge #502, became a part of the Department in January 2019. Before his service with the Highway Patrol, Trooper Felix honorably served in the United States Air Force.

I have seen a lot of court proceedings where drunk drivers have as many as 17 DUI’s and they are not in prison. Laws have got to be harsher for DUI’s!!! There is no real deterrent in most states.

Clean up the legal system before putting more people in it. A lot of people want harsher laws, but are not interested in paying higher taxes to fund larger prisons and more staff. Most governments cut budgets for schools and social services when they can't con the tax payers out of more money. Makes a lot of sense. What's even worse is most people in prison aren't guilty of what they were charged and convicted for.

This is a result of prosecutors dismissing and greatly reducing charges; especially those involving in running from and assaulting officers. Crime is out of control and LEO’s are walking targets. The media, community “organizers” and politicians have driven down public opinion of our law enforcement. There is so much division and hatred directed towards them. The open border is also directly tied to drastically increasing crime. It’s not ok!!!! I am so angry that we lost these fine men, condolences to the families.

It does not hinder drunk drivers , nor does it bring satisfaction , however 25 plus years behind bars , gives the offender plenty of time to rethink their actions

It is Never ok to Drink and Drive because the decision can be fatal. Please do not drink and drive if you are going to drink drink responsibly and grab a Uber or left.. innocent people are dying daily because of drunk driving and on my average the innocent people who get killed in the accident average around 85% over drunk drivers and those lives are being taken away from the families who suffer the loss of their loved ones..
