Worst & Best PC Cases for 2020 So Far: Mesh Trending & CES Round-Up
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 17 окт 2024
- We're rounding up some of the worst and best PC cases that we know about for 2020 so far. Mesh is a trend, but not alone.
Sponsor: Us! Grab a GPU diagram shirt or modmat at store.gamersne... - a total of 10% of all GN store sales revenue will be donated to Wildlife Rescue South Coast and Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital through February 19, 2020. If you wanted to buy something from us, now's a good time. Charity donation links below if you prefer.
This video rounds-up our early look at 2020's computer cases. There are a lot that'll likely end up on our "Best Cases of 2020" list at the end of the year, but we still need time to test them; fortunately, many of these cases are due out before Computex 2020, which is when the next round of enclosures will be announced. Many of the 2020 cases are already known at this point, as development lifecycles can span upwards of 18 months and beyond, but there'll be a few more slipping in toward end of year (especially after Computex). In the meantime, we've got a good handle on most of the mid-towers, and an especially good handle on the mesh focus.
Cases in this include (but are not limited to and also not all good): SilverStone Alta F1, Phanteks P500A, Phanteks P300A, SilverStone CS330, be quiet! Pure Base 500DX, ASUS ROG Z11, MSI Creator 400M, Lian Li Lancool II Mesh, Cooler Master's MB311L, and more. We're talking ATX, micro-ATX, and mini-ITX in this round-up.

We were originally going to publish this immediately after CES (as we have for about 5-6 years now), but revised it a bit with some additional thoughts post-show. Also, it allowed our CES "away team" to stop being sick, since everyone died and came back to life twice since then. We're all good now! We already have some new cases coming in for review. 12:30 MicroATX burn. Lol.
“It’s not a niche market because three is a lot.”
Hey! It's not niche! I wanted to build a mATX system (I didn't, but still) /s
I'm still not sure why the market doesn't like mATX, tbh. 99% of people will never need the expandability of full sized ATX. mATX offers pretty much the same feature set in a smaller form factor without all the restrictions that come with going ITX.
I'm still trying to figure out who actually uses the 7 expansion slots in an ATX build... MATX saves space, offers 4 expansion slots and can otherwise do anything an ATX system can, in less space.
mATX don't sell much, so no need for mATX cases, but how about people do not buy mATX when there are no/very few cases to choose from.
I'd say it's a self fullfilling prophecy.
Who needs 8 (+4front) USB ports and 7 expansion slots and 3-4 PCI-E slots?
Sure they are nice to have just in case, and the case still fits an ATX, again a self fulfilling prophecy.
@@magnusnilsson9792 Going mATX doesn't save much over just going normal ATX. So why risk compromising potential upgradeability in the future?

Fires have been pretty hectic in Australia and are still going, very good cause your donations are going to. Thanks again.
When the Asus guy said "What do you mean" after Steve asked where the air goes, I imagine some sort of indicator showing us that some primal case reviewer instinct just got triggered deep inside Steve.
hey from down under. I am thankful for your support in giving our wildlife a helping hand after our horrific fires. While i wasn't effected personally by the fires, it came closer than i would like to my parents new house. i was talking to a family of 5, when one of their smallest kids came up to us and pointed off at the far away glow and said that's our house over there. They fought the fires on their property for over a week and in the end they just had to leave it and get to safety. It was really sad to hear that story, so i just want to tank you for helping us down here.

Our community is rallying around to help each other but people are the primary focus, which is how it should be, but services like that wildlife hospital (which happens to be just up the road from me!) provide a great service to help wildlife return to a healthy population.
Also, I'll be waiting for the individual reviews on these cases before making a choice but it's great to see what's coming! Cheers ;-)

I know this is subjective, but what are YT comments for if not to vent an opinion no one asked for?
My dissatisfaction with case design has led me to contemplating fabricating my own case of late. I used to be an iron-worker and did a bit of metal fabrication in the past so I've got the knowledge on how to bend and shape metal. I prefer smaller cases with a simple airflow. I'm contemplating just making something that looks like a large ammo box or going nuts with a 50's sci-fi style case with system info displays and goofy dials and buttons to control fans inside the case (I don't like fan and rgb controlling software as they look to me to be mostly bloatware).
The price for buying the raw materials seems to be cheaper or equivalent to the cost of buying a case nowadays.
Im a HVAC Tech and the number 1 rule for airflow is (Airflow in = Airflow out.) Also its easier to think of airflow like a liquid, its going to take a path of least resistance, as well as heat rises. The less that a case and setup creates obstacles the easier / and quieter it will cool. With any case, its best to have any spot for a fan filled with the biggest one thats fits there. Also you cant clean the filters to ofter. They are so thin it doesn't take much to reduce airflow or its pulled from airleaks in unwanted spots.

LOL
Steve, I know the general trend is that motherboard manufacturers make lousy PC cases, but you really should take a look at the ASUS TUF GT-501. The thing is SPACIOUS, could fit an eATX board if you wanted, has 2x 2.5" dedicated drive mounting points, 2x 3.5" HDD mounting brackets and 2x 2.5 / 3.5 combo brackets. They are the kind you actually screw on, not HDD caddies. It has a dedicated reservoir mounting point, can fit 2x 360mm radiators with space to spare, includes 3x RGB 120mm DC fans and one PWM 140 fan as an exhaust at stock configuration. It natively supports vertical GPU mounting without additional accessories. I will agree it is a little expensive for what it is, but I'll be darned if it isn't an easy case to make a build in. Please consider reviewing it and at least partially redeem ASUS!
GN Case's incoming? It would be a very competitive brand with you behind the project.

I get the impression GN are on quite good terms with Cooler Master, and a collab with them could work out pretty well. The case shouldn't need to be anything fancy, I'm pretty sure a well designed case would actually work out cheaper to design and manufacture than all these terrible RGB and tempered glass cases.

Now we have the Lancool II Mesh out ( out but NOWHERE to be found ) Will we be able to obtain just a replacement front mesh panel for the case we already have?

@@monbou13 If you like large towers like I do, buy ones that are spacious inside without any coverings. Basically just a shell. Then add a full modular psu where you can remove the cables from the psu so you can detach the psu only for cleaning. After that, it’s just a matter of buying a blower vacuum and go to town on the inside of case. The included brush will easily take off accumulated dust from the fans. Do this once or twice a year and your case will look spiffy clean.

lol, ASUS section. One thing I noticed with Gamers Nexus case review is the absence of noise control which also can conflict with air flow. Some cases are much better at keeping it quiet. Still very good principles and explanations are used showing the issues. A+.

I've never yet had an ASUS board die or DOA. Unlike pretty much every other brand. Oh and every single Apple product I have still works, some being over 10 years old or more. Even found an old HDD based iPod in the closest that not only powered on just fine after a charge, but all the songs on it were still there. They may be over priced but you often do get what you pay for and buying low priced junk is usually just that. Junk.
John Vanderbeck Asus is no longer the premium manufacturer it was. I’ve had a few of their more expensive boards die on me and some of my clients. If they can standardize and it tasteful, it'll be nice. Loading it up like literal vomit into cases isn't doing anyone any favors.
Maybe CES is self-selecting for RGB cases? They're flashier and more lively, so they make better display units. Afaik, neither Fractal Design nor Be Quiet were at CES, perhaps their more reserved cases don't attract enough attention?

Yep. I recently posted on reddit, asking what the best cases are for the money. As one would expect, I got a lot of cute kiddie RGB crap recommended to me. I honestly don't care about what my case looks like, it's not going to impress the ladies and help me get laid. Give me something that's clean, sleek, effective, and affordable. All this "Gaming" PC part crap is giving me flashbacks to the 90s when everything had to be neon colorful with "X-TREME!" written on it.
Cool, as for me I grew up with old shitty computers with no flash, I enjoy the lighting options on the new hardware. You can always turn the lighting off as well when you want. Anyways I know what you saying but I think it's here to stay at least as a option.
@@XDAoKXD To each his own, I would rather spend money on extra performance than RGB stuff, my first computer was a Rockwell AIM 65, (6502 processor) It didn't even have a case, I couldn't afford the keyboard so I made my own mechanical keyboard for it. I had to solder about 300 wires to make it work.
Davidbrennan5 Totally agree. I wish Lian Li would bring their classic aluminum line back. Clean look. Good cooling. Light as a feather. Spacious whether it’s mid-tower or tower. Very easy to clean. And of course no stupid annoying RGB.
@@Paul_Sleeping I don't like it when they use those bright blue led lights on the front for the power switch or hard disk, if your going to do that put the led's on the top so they don't blind me. You can't even buy a decent keyboard anymore without 100 leds, I would rather they remove the leds and make it quieter.
Maybe I’m a sucker, but included server style drive sled hot swap bays are something I really like even if they’re totally superfluous. I just wish they didn’t always come in a case that isn’t as cool for the rest of it.
Like the o11 dynamic xl has hot swap bays while still looking cool but that’s about it.
