a grung settlement was attacked by a group of humans to free slaves, but the humans were like let's kill all their eggs too, but the paladin leading the charge was like "don't do that" but they did it anyway, and the paladin managed to save an egg, and raised the grung that hatched as her own son, and he grew up to be a paladin, and that's how I convinced my DM to let me play frog from chrono trigger.

The “slaver” trope is easily the worst part of all “evil” races in dnd. It’s such a lazy way of trying to portray “evil creatures”. Instead of writing something complex or morally interesting it’s all just genocidal slavers. The slaver trope has seriously damaged the idea of a slaver race as ever being cool to me. It’s a boring uninspired trope. It honestly feels like the writers wanted to characterise some races as being “evil” but couldn’t make a coherent reason for players to see them as evil besides their appearance so they slapped an ad hoc explanation of them being slavers in an attempt at duct taping together an “evil” culture. I really like some races like duergar, fire giants, mind flayers and even grungs but I always rewrite them in my campaign to NOT be slavers. I always try to rely on something else to characterise them with an “evil” flair.

@@rainbowthedragoncat6768 Due to how results on dice addition, the statistical chances for a specific results are different, putting it simply, with 1d20 you have an equal chance everywhere to get a result, which is 5% for each of them, but with a 2d10, the result is more likely to reach an average of 11 at the peak and every number going up or down from 11 have increasingly lesser chances to come up, with a 1% chance to reach a 2 (since it's two dice, you can't have a 1, so with 2d10 you also get a minimum of 2) and a 1% chance to get a 20

Just ran grungs in my campaign. I had the story of this particular tribe be that they were driven out of their forest by elves who just assumed they were evil creatures infesting the land they wanted to colonize and as a result, the grungs had a hatred towards elves and a gold grung that grew to rule with an iron fist. After being displaced the grungs moved into an under ground cave near an aquifer (which happened to be connected to today's dungeon). Long story short the grungs challenged to party to some arena combat and now the rogue is the new gold "grung". They also have plans to orchestrate a grung rebellion against the elves, with the aid of training from the ranger and advanced weapons from the artificer. God I love this game.

The ability to use a turn to poison your next attack is interesting. Mabye the CP could even determine the properties of their poison by leveling up.

Now my other players have written diaries for Koko (New grung disciple of the parties cleric) that tells of his greatness and keep notes of all games from his perspective. The grungs have built a gold statue of the Cleric and are amassing worshipers and a temple in the clerics name. And the cleric still has no idea.

Late Ik but I actually made pretty extensive use of grungs in the early part of my campaign and they were a blast after making a couple tweaks to them.
First making them all borderline incompetent group of swamp dwellers led by a equally dumb and jovial leader with a strained relationship with the nearby village.
They started out kidnapping someone from the village and the pcs ofc went to go check. There they find the poor guy being barked at to make tea using nothing but lukewarm water and some normal leaves. One party member had gotten hit by the gold grungs attack when the kidnapping happened and was the only one actually able to understand wtf they were saying and introduced actual tea to the grungs which they thought was a gift from the heavens above and swore to be better friends with the village if given a semi regular shipment of tea leaves.
They also were given grung alcohol and found out that it tastes literally so bad and toxic that your body... flushes everything out of its system immediately. The PCs actually managed to use it to... ironically enough... prevent alcohol poisoning caused by a drinking game by causing most of the alcohol to make a sudden exit from the body.
They also just adopted one of grungs into the party somewhat and even evacuated the village (and used revivify on the leader IN A BURNING BUILDING) after the BBEG torched the village after seeing the hospitality the grungs had given the pcs
Tl;dr Grungs are now a favorite group at my table because of their silly antics

For some creatures, it feels a bit tacked on (Like Orcs and Goblins and Kobolds. I get it, some tribes might do that, but not EVERY tribe or clan would do that).
