- The coach is having trouble defending himself from the women in his MMA classes, so he consults the internet to learn more about women’s self-defense techniques (that means defending yourself from women, right?)
This research has lead coach Ramsey to find the self-defense experts at Pure Motion Fitness who teach their own brand of martial arts techniques that at first glance seem to be a shallow mockery of poorly performed aikido. However, in an effort to be less judgmental of other styles and “masters”, Ramsey decides to give them a chance and try out the techniques against real live humans. Will Ramsey be able to stop Karen’s deadly wrist control this time around? Or will he have to hit the weights first and work his biceps first?
Featuring female jiu-jitsu prodigy Karen, controversial podcast guest Ned as “Curl Bro”, and a cameo from Jourdan Chow doing what he does best.

Jourdan is the greatest actor of his generation. He can play a knife wielding maniac, a knife wielding maniac in a rash guard, a knife wielding maniac in another part of the gym...the man’s range is spectacular. Truly a master thespian!
His range is a knifes length.
We love Jordan.
A knife wielding maniac in crack cocaine
He's a natural born honey badger
He trained in the forests of Tristan da Cunha. He never came back. And when he came back, he was the Knife Shidoshi. His knife mastery is omni-dimensional. Even if he is miles away, if he knows what you look like, he merely needs to have your face in his mind and then simply thrust his arm forward and just like that, you're done. He doesn't even have to have the knife in his hand. He's so good at turkey carving that ALL families want him to carve their turkey at thanksgiving. There's even a waiting list that everyone signs to have him come over and serve their turkey. However if you're lower on the list, the average waiting period is 70 years. You also have to sign a waiver just in case the knife "slips" out of his hand and "grazes" your vital organs. Truly the greatest master of anything ever and can never be out knife-mastered.

About 10 years ago my wife took a self defense class. I asked her if she felt comfortable stepping a attack, and she said yes. So I asked her to show me.
It became clear the class were dangerous and expensive. She learned just enough to make her feel comfortable enough to get hurt or killed.
I started Taekwondo when I was 12: I trained feverishly, I had an affinity for kicking, timing, and movement under the Taekwondo system. I became pretty good, but when I playfully sparred a classmate who practiced Muay Thai, I immediately learned that most of the moves I had learn weren't reliable. I stuck to the basics, roundhouse, side kick, and front kick, but I didn't know how to use my hands. I brought this up to my 'Master' and he said I was just doing it wrong and was put in the 'dog house'...That's when I looked up Bruce Lee and understood how he felt. Sometimes the system/pride of other Martial Artists whether it be a dojo or modern day gyms, they can get in the way of making the best version of yourself.
What you're doing is important, if I had seen this video when I was younger I would have been totally inspired /enlightened.
Teakwando vs muay thai? Never use high kick against muay fighter, just use front kick and low kick. Or you gonna get elbow. Your teacher is right when he said you doing it wrong.in Teakwando your hand is for guarding ur chin, if you drop your hand when you kick, you doing it wrong.
Yeah, incorporate boxing with bjj. Tkd kicks are f-ing scary. You will learn as you train the other martial arts where the kicks fit in...and they will. I agree the punches are junk. I hope tkd get past cultural bias and starts adding real punching (boxing) to make it a more complete system.
I to did Tai Kwon Do when I was 12 but, I never really sparred, I guess that was supposed to be a green belt thing?
I learned on my own most of these techniques are unreliable at best, Tai Kwon Do specializes in kicks and has very little to do with hand work.
I still use a bit of what I learn, or what I consider to be valuable. Mostly the Front kick or Round House (I learned that one from the internet.)
There are several systems of TKD and they all rely heavily on kicks.
I have trained in Kung Fu, Kajukenbo, and now am studying TKD. Its not a WTF School or any kind of Olympic style TKD so while the kicks are a major component we are taught to use them when we can... not because that's the only thing we can do.
Hands are important. You have to know how to judge distance, close the gap, and get in deep when necessary. Kicks can be helpful on keeping a rushing attacker at bay but what most TKD guys need to remember is there is more to life than a roundhouse or some variation of the roundhouse.
@@guitargeek57 true. Tkd needs to bring boxing for the punches into it's system and evolve it.

I've been watching self defence videos for a while and I always try them out on my boyfriend who is 30kg heavier than me. Not 1 of them have worked.....I started Jiu Jistsu 2 months ago and already I can take him to the ground and choke him.
Reminds me of when my old college had a Rape Aggression Defense class by campus security. They asked our martial arts club to help out and be the attackers. They ignored any advice from a black belt in shotakon karate, black belt in TKD, green belt in TKD, and yellow belt in Tae Su Do. And the president's girlfriend whom he had been training in the basics of shotakon. One girl popped her shoulder out because she was trying to pull out of a wrist grab. The solution to a guy asking the time was to tell "rape" and run. And the president's girlfriend had to be literally pushed into a bear hug from the officer in the red man suit because she used her training to keep her distance too well. She then used palm strikes to his chin to break out. Ended up giving the guy whiplash since he forgot to bring the neck brace. We were honestly proud of her.
I remember a while ago I told my then-girlfriend that she ought to learn some self-defense. She watched a few vids on RUclips as well, and tried them out on me. Needless to say none of them worked.
Sounds like forplay

Not necessarily, they just have an unproven theory that doesn't actually work
I recall being in a self-defense class where I was paired up with a much smaller female and given the job of pretending to be an assailant and grabbing her from behind. I forget what all she was supposed to do in order to break free, but I didn't cooperate like the other male assailants. They grabbed their partners loosely. I grabbed tightly, but with enough control not to actually hurt her of course. They let the woman stomp their feet. I kept my partner off the ground a little bit so she couldn't stomp. They let the woman pretend to kick them in the testicles. I shifted her and myself and sometimes squeezed my legs together so as to prevent that.
I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I really wanted her to have a taste of a more authentic experience in the hopes that she'd be better able to get out of the real thing if that ever happened or at least so she wouldn't develop a false sense of her own prowess in a fight and learn to run away if at all possible.
If everyone acted like you, self defense classes would have a point. Some mma based one with all the practitioners actually offering resistance to both other and same sex, during a simulated attack, grab etc would be light years ahead of what is usually thought. Ofc all of this with a lot of aerobic work and situational awarness, because usually spotting a bad situation ahead of time and running away is your best bet. Easier said then done.
Had the same thing happened when we were doing mandt training. Overweight Karen of a woman telling me about defensive techniques and I'm like yeah that doesn't work in real life. So she's like well yeah it does and I'm like no it doesn't I'll show you. She said okay and then I grabbed her wrist She tried to pull away didn't work She tried to twist it out of my grip didn't work I'm like yeah You've been doing this for 60 seconds now and I could have dropped you in 5.
Just how long can an attacker hold on to his victim? Eventually, the attacker will get tired and release or loosen his grip.
@@mikedasilva5239 or they'll seriously hurt you people don't grab other people with the intent of just holding them there is an object to get them to do something or harm them.

On a lighter side, I went without deodorant for a year. No one attacked me!
@Anzu Wyliei What you eat greatly affects the smell of sweat. At least I noticed that with me. Eat just fast food for 3 days and then go for a little run and see how you smell. Then eat healthy organic foods with lots of fruit and vegetables for 1 week and then go for a little run and see how you smell. I tried this out when my friend mentioned it to me one day. The smell of sweat is incredibly different. The healthier you eat, the less rancid the smell of sweat.

Lessons I've learned from these self defense videos so far:
1. No matter how strong you are even slightly touching your opponent with your knee will cause them to instantly become incapacitated (why do thai fighters even have to practice kneeing so much? it's easy and effective)
2. Breaking someone's grip on you instantly ends the fight(even if you bring them closer to you as a result)
3. Rather than practicing how to avoid chokes and bad positions it's best to practice how to escape them(fuck me, years wasted on playing guard and sweeps i should've just spent all this time studying ancient techniques on how to get out of every submission possible)
4. Opponents never get angry/more vicious at you for hurting them(honour among thieves?)
5. The more out of shape instructor is the more trustworthy he/she is(must've spent all life studying these ancient techniques rather than doing foolish stuff, like idk, getting stronger)
Also, no one will ever punch you with their opposite hand. After all, boys aren't allowed to hit girls, right?
The 3rd point, #juststandup 🤷🏾♂️😂😂
4. Opponents never get angry/more vicious at you for hurting them (honour among thieves?)
No kidding. The majority of the internet self-defense discussions and tips have a really hard time understanding this concept. It seems everyone that gets caught in street fights respects boxing rules.
@@pabrodi Yeah, even if I somehow were the aggressor in a street fight and someone tried to gouge my eyes out in self defense i'm pretty sure i'd try to kill them asap out of sheer instinct of self preservation.
There are fights and then there are FIGHTS.
Escalating shit is the opposite of self defense, but that's almost always the answer according to them.
@@jaybee7271 pabrodi I guess you're both missing the point here, what you're doing is creating an window where you can run away in to safety, you don't care how angry the opponent gonna be after it, your only goal here is to run from the situation not hit the the shit out of him, it's about distracting, not about winning.
these techniques seem to have one small flaw: they leave you wide open to getting repeatedly punched by the attacker's free hand
jonesey251 what kind of a man would punch a woman???
The techniques where they peal the hand off work a little better if the hand is vertical and on something squishy that is more than a handful (and the reason you want control of the fingers before moving if possible)
Unfortunately someone who would go for the breast grab at a bar or whatever is exactly the type of person who would punch you for attempting to hurt them.
In case someone wondered what Curl Bro's t-shirt print says, it's: "I'm Russian and proud of it!"
@Multorum Unum прикольно, русский в Китае тренируются у американца
In battle school for the infantry, we were doing the techniques for how to break free from a wrist grab. Turns out the guy I was paired up with used to be a professional bull rider. Needless to say, even the army's technique of breaking a wrist lock didn't work. Several strikes to the face did however. Good thing we train with contingencies. If only "self-defence" classes could figure out the importance of that....
Yeah, there are guys like that. No conceivable technique will work if your opponent has a grip comparable to a well-bolted-down bench vise. With some people, you might be better off trying to chomp your hand off and bolt before you bleed out. But that doesn't mean any of those techniques are invalid. Even things this WSD "instructor" teaches will work if you heavily modify them to engage the core and legs and center of mass. But you're still probably better off not getting yourself in a situation where you have to use them by pepper-spraying them in a timely manner or something like that...
>If only "self-defence" classes could figure out the importance of that....
Well, the JJJ classes I took mixed strikes and throws with wrist locks off wrist grabs so....
Idk how but im a 132lbs man with a vice grip, good luck trying to break my grab without proper techniques, and there are probably people similar to me that can attack you, so its good to learn proper self defence
@@geeleiia8807 You have to soften them up or distract first, say with a kick to the shin or palm strike to the nose, then get your wrist lock.
@@Mike_LaFontaine75 Most so-called "grip-breaking" techniques are actually for grip-prevention anyway.
Grabbing someone or something is a motion with not much explosive force behind it especially the fingers part of it, so you have a good chunk of time to react before a firm grip is established. If you are busy cloud gazing while someone's grabbing your arm, neck, hand or shoulder and actually get caught it's not even a requirement for him to have extraordinary strength - anyone who's even slightly above you in that regard will become a problem. If that happens then you have to have a trained response for that situation too. But before that what you should do instead is keep your distance, be on guard, react fast, use spatially conservative moves to avoid being grabbed (those actually look somewhat similar to ones on display), and practice sprinting.
Yeah, and while we're on the topic of sprinting - drop the high heels. I'll give you some benefit of the doubt and assume it's not even about vanity or allurement in as many cases as some people claim, but regardless of reasoning if you're not "pretty enough" for your liking without them, having them on won't help any of that, and if you are - you don't need them anyway. Ankle torture and inability to run is not a good tradeoff for whatever it is you're trying to do. That would be my first advice for a woman trying to "defend" against a would-be rapist or whatever else might be. :D
Ramsey, my sincere advice to you; find yourself a tough, strong man who would protect you against women. Problem solved!

I'm an 18 year old female who is very interested in self-defense, and this video came as a refreshing confirmation of my suspicions regarding "Women's Self Defense" programs. I've only seen one video (I think it was from the channel "GracieBreakdown") under this category, but something about it struck me as suspicious, as did the clickbait-y way in which such videos are often presented (i.e. 5 Chokehold Defenses YOU Must Know). I also mistrust anyone who claims you can learn any kind of martial art from an online course, much more so if they claim you can be certified to TEACH it without ever interacting with a true expert, on principle. As someone who was in Karate classes for 7 years, I know how important hands-on experience and criticism from someone who knows what they're talking about are to the learning process. Even during my time in Karate as an 8-16 year old, I was unhappy with how infrequently we practiced sparring and self-defense techniques as opposed to the vast amounts of time spent on mastering kata and basics. I don't mean any disrespect to my Sensei, or to undermine the importance of basics, but he seemed more interested in passing down the tradition he had learned from his Master than in actually teaching us how to apply our knowledge in the real world. I really started to question what I had learned when a friend of mine later told me that Karate techniques only work if you're as strong as your opponent and don't really compensate for differences in size and strength, and that realization got me started down the rabbit hole of researching jiu jitsu and Krav Maga that led me here. Now that I see this video, I realize that most of the self-defense techniques I learned would not do me any good in an actual confrontation. It was hard enough trying to escape from a wrist grab by turning against the thumb or by pulling my on my hand with the free hand, or escaping from a person who is sitting on my hips and punching my face by bucking my hips, wrapping myself around their torso, "trapping" the arm and leg, and rolling over, when my opponent is at the very worst a scrawny teenage boy who isn't using his full strength or punching me for real. If I tried this on a fully grown man, or even a woman who has the advantage in strength or size, it wouldn't work. Furthermore, these techniques contradict what my natural instincts would be in those situations. Thank you for helping to dispel the illusion.
Yea no one read all that

To be fair. I don't think you can learn from purely watching videos.
What were you watching? They didn't even do the first 'technique' as shown (certainly, poorly shown) in the video referenced. Eg., the 1st lady did mention pulling the elbow straight back then rolling the arm. @ 13:00 they stand there flatfooted, swinging their arms in front of themselves - trying to use exclusively arm muscles to slooowly wrench their arms away from the other. Maybe they'll get to some information here but so far they just look foolish. The bicep plays a role of course but the movement is about speed, shifting body weight and generally using the weakness of the opponent's thumb to break free. The Straw Man he made here was easy to beat down. This prooves nothing, nor does it add useful information. I was hoping for more from these martial artists.
I starting writing this around 13m in, but didn't want to pre-judge it amd finished it first. The rest of the breakdowns were better from there on out. They did provide some good info, too.
Interestingly, she is able to break his grip (to the thumb side) easily enough @ around 23:30. So, which is it? ;-)
The moves in the self defense video and the moves he demonstrated are basically the same, but he did them properly while the self defense video did them wrong.
The problem is that people think that they can learn stuff from self defense videos.

This is a great video. Apart from the analysis and deconstruction of ineffective self-defense techniques, what I liked the most is the fact that instead of simply showing a correct technique, you made it into a training session for your student (Karen), asking her what would she do to make the technique more effective (e.g. the use of the body instead of wrestling with the arm) and giving her advice when she made some mistake (e.g. showing the back to the opponent).

This is both hilarious and sad that people are being taught this and thinking it's good advice. Super funny to watch you debunk the ideas but it's scary to think that there are women out there thinking they can use these things to save themselves when they won't work
Sure they work if they are executed correct and not just copying the technique but actually learn it, and if one technique do not work you change to another tactic, fighting is about being able to change/react according to ones opponent actions.
I always notice that the aggressor is usually way to compliant to the defender in those SD videos.

you guys make the gym look a lot more fun then the streets.
All these shots at master wong are uneassary. You know his chokes only work the streeetzz!!! Anyway your channel helped me dealing with things personally and to cut out some bullshit out of trainingsroutines the last months. So much respect for you.
Ramsey do a video about Defense Lab!!
I recommend woman watch 100 ways to strike the groin.....
Most useful bit of practical information.
Because men do not know how to defend his groin. Watch bill burr he taught you how to protect the groin. Even Christopher Titus know.
@@fazbadbadri1046 What about eye poke
@@hariharicikina9972 what about it?
@@fazbadbadri1046 woosh
Beginner's krav maga teaches 100 ways to strike the groin. Still bullshit until you put it into actual pressure-tested practice via sparring; men don't just stand there with their legs open
I've trained in Japanese Jujitsu and my experience with wrist control was always preceded with a strike first before gaining control of a joint. Can wrist control be useful when preceded with a strike first?
same but my techniques changed when i cross trained with muay thai and learnt how too get hit. ive kept the locks and foot work just execute differently. try it you will see what i mean
From my minuscule experience with Judo, changing your opponents posture seems like a good place to start? Correct me please if I am just over simplifying it.
Many of these techniques work when the bunkai is understood, nothing is being done correctly here regarding posture n body movement to affect self superior position or promote proper direction /redirection of energy...and yes striking/unbalancing are essential. Having done aikido then much improving on that with aikijutsu ...and having used the tried and true techniques (taught to police and military the world over mind you) done right SOME of it is certainly applicable. But yeah the examples, good show of what not to do.
The way that girl took his back was incredible
"There's no such thing as cheating if it's a curl"
Irony aside, that is totally legit.
But can you curl the curl bro himself?
Anyway Jourdan and Karen are enjoying the acting way too much :D.
Why not just use the "show your butt" technique? take it to the streets! Sadly wrist locks are one of the most misunderstood techniques. They don't ever work as a single technique they fit in after a distraction or as other stuff is happening.
That ladies techniques are garbage and she only knows 20% of what she needs to know.
that go limp is BRILLIANT! I am so stealing that
exactly, what you said about the wrist breaks. He shits on it so hard despite it being a straight forward principle.
Once the opponent grabs your wrist and you try to do the fancy evade... you're in for a world of Aikido!
What all of those type of trainings "forget" is that those type of moves were originally intended as follow-ups to a strike. You don't just try to break a wrist grab. You punch the person in the face or kick them in the kneecap and THEN break the lock while they are stunned.
None of it is a one-size-fits-all tool to use all the time.
The mythos of this channel continues to grow and I love it.
I love the man in backround walking around randomly stabing the air.
The best part of this video was when they took a constructive look at the techniques and workshopped how to make something similar actually work or acknowledged when it was unlikely anything similar would work. (so the second half of the video, more or less)
I wish all personal trainers were as patient, kind, understanding and knowledgeable as you, Ramsey.
No idea what's happening to the standards of people now, they all seem to get into professions to make themselves feel above others, or just for the money, the former being the worst offender in my opinion...
Women, please remember: If you kick a man in the balls or attack the throat or eyes, and dont finish the job.... You have now enraged the opponent and are in greater danger than before.
Oh my god! It's curlbro! wow curlbro! you're my hero!
EDIT: corrected my 'your' to 'you're'
*you're
@@jacobkeary6740 I'll be clearer next time
Oh my God somebody actually typed "you're" correctly! I was losing faith in all of humanity. Thank you so much! Seeing that is like seeing the first ray of sunshine after a decade-long storm of stupidity!

@@Conighttonight You're kidding me! There is more than one of you?! Holy crap I am utterly dumbfounded! Not sure if I will be able to sleep tonight
Hahaha that was funny as hell and also, I love the "knife guy" :D
Wrist control is the only thing those systems ever seem to get right and they manage to screw that up.

Looks like she took a single aikido class and then made up her own art 😂
Btw you're teaching aikido better then most aikido themed demos I've seen 😂
Karen is my favorite. So much spirit. Especially at the elbow part.
For these skills to work, you need a good element of surprise or distraction first. It won''t work at all for someone who knows your intentions.
😂🤣😂 haaaaaaa, this is one of the better episodes youve done, all we needed was a Master Ken from Ameri-do-te quote.
Okay! The stabbing practice going on in the background....too funny.
benjovi55 well, he does remind us to get out and train.....
It only works in the streets !
Almost cried when Ned said "Curl Bro".
This whole video felt like a monty python sketch
i love it that saitama now has a youtube channel
This is your greatest comedy skit, a real journey.
Excuse me! Did you just say you "like leg day" ??Wtf you aren't human
Best self defence for women?
knife, gun, tazer. They dont need years of training to be used effective.
Ruud Driessen
And don’t have those things? Punch and kick and scream to call attention.
But it does require years of training to be used *safely*!
@@Wistbacka no it doesn't,
Hours? yes.
Days? Maybe.
Years? ...
Then you shouldn't be around pointy things let alone to be allowed to use a firearm.
@@ruuddriessen8547 I can see that just looking at how well and safely US cops use their firearms... Never any mistakes, misuse of arms or collateral damage... (That was sarcasm). Guns are easy to use, but they are difficult to be effective and safe with.
A knife is "easy" as long as you are sure of yourself. But I doubt most women (and men) out there are combat conditioned to stay cool when threatened. Very easy to hurt yourself with that knife.
The tazer is the best option of the things you mention. Usually non-lethal, and if you by mistake "stab" yourself with it (or get disarmed), unlike with a knife, you won't die from it (most likely).
@@ruuddriessen8547 Also, the hubris; you just said guns and knives should be the go to defense system, and now you tell me I'm unfit to use them?! Wow...
But that brings out the very point: how do you know which person is actually fit to use such weapons without proper screening by a professional?
😂😂😂 It was exactly what I was thinking - what if the guy is way stronger? I say go for the nuts whenever you can.
this intro is hilarious
also, you should do a video on setting up a home gym/workout space
It seems like a lot of these self defence videos use the same few techniques "peel hand, wrist lock, attacker is completely sedated in the meantime", I wonder where it comes from originally
Perhaps Aikido done wrong.
Goshinjutsu...
Bad aikido and worse judo.
Bullshitdo
Your acting and comedic timing are getting better and better. Maybe you should try stand up comedy? You could be the Kevin Hart of China!
Yeah, I need some help knowing how to defend myself from my women when I forget to put down the toilet seat!
No martial art can help you in that scenario... you just have to remember!
Swat team
Women, way to go man! They don't get jealous of each other. Lmao
Hahaha ! Excellent ! I saw the guy on the back stabbing the doll I just pied my pants, and the bro curls video lol What are you doing bro ? You have to curl it, hahahaha . Well done !
late for the party... Dude, I recognize all those grappling techniques! They're from one of the most dangerous and combat-effective martial art known to men: Aikido... For people who don't know Aikido, it's a form of traditional japanese ballet-dance used by the samurai during the Shogunate. Main purpose is to bring 2 or more opponents together into a love circle. Don't listen to this Ramsey, he knows nothing. He should have used his pinky finger for these techniques to be effective against men bigger than him. Dont believe me? Ask Steven Seagal
