The dessert roll is the double-width cousin of the jelly roll. It's cut at 5 inches instead of 2.5, offering sew much more fabric per strip.
This week, Jenny is using a dessert roll from I Heart Ombre by V & Co. for FreeSpirit Fabrics, and those extra inches of fabric really let that ombre color shine!
The Ombre Lovely Day Quilt was designed by the ombre queen, Vanessa Christenson, and it comes together beautifully with those wide dessert roll strips.
Note: In the video Jenny states that she used a 108" backing for this quilt. We actually used 3.5 yards of the 44" fabric with a horizontal seam. We apologize for the error.

It's great not to strive to be perfect all the time, but it's also ok to go back and fix things sometimes. A great lesson to remember!❤
I love that you did not edit out the error - it makes me feel better about my mistakes.
10:58 I’m going to miss this little laugh, Jenny you are one of a kind! I hope you and Ron will have a blessed mission trip. ❤🙏🏻

I love my 2 1/2” ruler and the 5” ruler shown. So versatile! I never have seen a dessert role before! I love it!
I just love this one! I haven’t purchased a dessert roll yet. This will be my first for sure💕
I love hearts❤ this is so cute and easy!

❤❤❤❤❤Love you Jenny 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is such a fun video! All the best on your mission, Jennie!❤
I love ombres & hearts anyway!!! And I already miss you 😥😥
This pattern is so pretty with that fabric. I don’t think I’ve seen you use a seam ripper before! I know you must have but it is a very rare occurrence!
Time for you to bless others, you have certainly blessed me for years!!!!!😊😢😊❤❤❤
Love the dessert roll!
Very pretty fabric and quilt👏♥️🇦🇺
Turned out lovely! Thank you Jenny for all you do 😊🎉
What a beautiful quilt, I so love working with Ombre. Thanks Jenny!
It is always a pleasure to watch Jennie. Love the new designs and seeing new fabrics. ❤
Love this pattern and the fabric! Have a safe & blessed trip in Africa on your mission, Jenny!
Real nice! Many blessings for your mission. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR TIME YOU PUT ONTO QUILTING FOR US. Have a safe trip. God Bless 😅😊❤
What a perfectly adorable quilt! I know a girl who would love to have one!!
I love this quilt. I’m a newer quilter and appreciate the detail you gave when demonstrating the cutting and putting the blocks together.
This is super cute! I've never heard of dessert rolls before. There are certain areas of the quilt that look like cat heads, as in the cat quilt you've featured before. I wonder if Natalie or Misty could dream up a pattern that has cats and hearts while you're gone. Happy travels!
Hearts and cats! Can’t beat that!!
I love the umbrella as it gives so many more colours to the quilt. Just gorgeous Jenny. stay safe. hugs, Chel 🌸
Jenny, you are the best. 😊
🩷✈️🙏 onward and upward. Godspeed 💕
Absolutely Gorgeous🤩😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just delightful so added it to my list❤❤❤👏👏👏
I love this beautiful material that all goes together so nice!❤
I LOVE this!!!
Godspeed on your mission!!❤
Jenny, I'm in 💕 LOVE!!
I HAVE TO MAKE THIS ASAP!
❤💖 Thank you for sharing this with us 🎉
Such a cute pattern.
I absolutely love this!
I love this!
Wonderful, soo cute!❣
I have not seen this kind of fabric before nor heard of desert rolls so this would be something new for me to do. I’m sure it looks way different in person to see the ombre fabrics in the quilt
Very nice tutorial
very pretty.
I love it !
Sew cute! ❤❤❤
Nice Pattern . I’m guessing using Ombré Fabrics like the Jelly Roll.
Missing you, it will be a long couple of years.
Hi Jenny!!! What a lovely quilt. Loved the video. Thank you for your talent and for sharing with us! You are a great teacher!!! Love ya!❤
It might be my eyes but that quilt behind you looks scrappy to me. I can’t see any effects of the ombré material. I like it though
The fact that the fabric is ombre makes it look like she had a larger variety of fabrics than she had.
I agree. This pattern would look way different in a layer cake or yardage. Ombré makes it look very scrappy. I don't really see much of a pattern in this quilt either. Kind of looks like a bunch of leftover fabric
@@RuthK-b5i well put, not one of the best quilt patterns on this channel
Yes, I too would prefer more organization for the layout like putting the 4 patches into a lattice.
@@ween659I agree. I don't believe she finished the tutorial or did I miss something?
I miss you already.
Thank you Missouri Star and Jenny. I went shopping right away for materials for this project. I think I'm going to make it bigger though. I really like the idea of having precut "dessert rolls." You mentioned the background was a 108" wide ombre confetti fabric. I didn't find this width, I only found the 44-45" width, or did I hear it wrong? Thank you for the video.
Cute quilt, but it’s so busy there’s no way I can appreciate the ombré effect.
❤❤❤❤
Love the quilt. Can't find the Ombre wideback in this tutorial? The description says Free Spirit? Confused on the manufacturer.
Love watching you and your quilts. Question : does the gold on this fabric fade with washing thru the years? Seen some very pretty fabric with this type of gold emblishment but am always cautious about purchasing it, fearing it will fade away.
What color thread was used for this pattern
I know all is expensive, but maybe buy fabric one month then pattern, thread, etc next month. Hopefully, its available long enough for you to split it up. Good luck.
🥰
Do you sell the quilt kit?
Cute pattern but where do we get Dessert Rolls? Can’t find any on your website.
What was Jenny before she was a quilt seamstress??
In days gone by?
Como eu quero me adaptar a esse cortador redondo
Are there a lot of patterns that call for a dessert pack? I've never heard of them before
Dessert roll
I can't find the PDF version that Jenny said there was ? Anyone know please?
How can I purchase t❤his pat❤term. I’d love to work this up!
If you press your heart seams to oppose, it might go better.
Why don’t I find 108 I heart ombré? I’ve even searched outside of MSQC and can’t find any mention of it.
In the video Jenny states that she used a 108" backing for this quilt. We actually used 3.5 yards of the 44" fabric with a horizontal seam. We apologize for the error. You can find all of our supplies here: bit.ly/ombrelovelyday_yt
Awesome! Thank you so much!
I am wondering how many quilts you have done in your life. 1,000,000?
I was disappointed that the pattern was $11.75 with $5.99 shipping for a total of $17.74. I’m on limited income and cannot afford a pattern that costs that much in addition to the fabric. I so wanted to make this but it’s out of my reach cost wise.
I am not trying to cheat the designer, however if you play this back, The cutting sizes are given, along with the fabric requirements. If you quilt this could be done.
See gives us the cutting instructions. Watch the video and enjoy distribution of blocks
If u know how take a screenshot of the quilt when she is sewing for reference. Blessings
@@marilounagy4435most teachers who use someone’s pattern do not give any of the cutting measurements
If u have a Hobby Lobby fabric store near u-Watch for their ads. They will have 40% sales on all fabric q 2-3 weeks
Take notes and write down the cutting sizes. Then just rewatch until you've got it. There is also the entire video in writing below the video....click on the title the scroll down and look for " transcript"....that's the pattern, in a nutshell
I usually like all of Missouri Stars videos, but this one isn't my cup of tea. First of all, having to cut down a strip that is too big for the block you're needing, which is wasted time to me. There seems to be no organization in the layout either. This is just my opinion and mean no harm.
