Dodging Storms to the Lake-House

- Thank you to our friends John and Laura for inviting us to their lake-house in Portage, Wisconsin! We had to wait for some bad storms to pass through the Chicago area and then we were able to depart at dusk, dodge a few remaining storm clouds and fly from Aurora, Illinois up there. This was my first attempt at wake surfing. :)

Guages in the green, everything’s looking good, gonna release the brakes, making good fuel flows , engines are in the green, air speeds alive, 60..70..80..90.. Rotate, tap the brakes, gear coming up. Never gets old! I Love your videos! Thank you for sharing.
Nicely put! I feel the same way... One of my favorite video is Kevin Picking up his sister ruclips.net/video/7PVq2TDQCL0/видео.html aka: My Sister is TERRIFIED of Flying!!
Climbing out at blue line!
My 10yr old Gson likes to watch these with me. We also fly Xplane together. He was flying the sim in a 172 and as he took off he said, "Tap the brakes.." LOL..
Always a Good habit to say the checklist aloud for every phase of your flight especially when you are flying single pilot. I put all my checklists into ForeFlight and that eliminates the laminated sheets.
Guilty as charged too! :) I love flying with you guys. A nice little break from editing over 600 photos from my son's high school senior "first fifteen" rugby team, and winning the provincial grand final cup for the first time, and his last 51st game for the school! It's been quite a day, so thanks 1BC!
Few things as valuable to pilots as seeing how other people handle weather flying. Thanks!
Thanks for coming to our airport. Saw your plane and it looked fantastic. We're in the middle of airport planning for improvements and/or a new airport. Third possibility is closure of the airport. Any support from you or fellow you tubers and pilots would be highly appreciated by us based at Portage. Send a letter to the mayor of Portage in favor of the airport helps. Thanks
Howdy David! Nice airport you have there. I'll tell my buddy John (Cessna 340) as he is a regular there and see if there is anything we can do to help. Fingers crossed it stays open and ya'll can get your improvements!!
@@310Pilot appreciate it. Blue skies !!!
I grew up scared to death of heights, I started watching Kevin & Jamie's videos and did the Mackinaw bridge air tour here in my home state of michigan and have finally decided at 45 yrs old that I would like to take up flying! Keep the videos coming I love them!
I'm learning to fly because I'm scared of flyingI know, sounds weird!
As I watched you waiting for the storms to go through, I thought of my CFII when I was working on my instrument rating waaay back in the 1970's. He said "always better to be on the ground wishing that you were flying than in the air wishing that you were on the ground." Thanks for posting.
Although I am not a pilot I watch all your videos. Flying fascinates me. Thank for the videos..
Thanks for the excellent videos and inspiration! I’ve taken my discovery flight and have my first official PPL lesson next week out of KCRG in Jacksonville.
Nice landing. I watch the mag compass alignment with the centerline and you nailed it. Enjoy watching you guys. Really entertaining but also plenty to learn from your ATC experience and use in aviating.
As a kid, our family used to attend religious meetings at a campground directly across the street from the Portage airport. During those weeks, I used to go hang out in the FBO, or just stay across the street and watch airplanes. My dad would sometimes take a Cessna 182 from a flying club in southwest Michigan to this airport and give sightseeing rides over the Dells during those weeks. Great memories! It would be fun to fly in there 50 years later, now that I have my pilot's license, but I live too far away (Pennsylvania). Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Kevin for another nice safe flight. Fly & stay safe
It was funny hearing C29 (MOREY FIELD) during your video. That's the airfield where I learned to fly during the 1980's (two grass strips and one asphalt). C29 is the longest operating FBO in the state of Wisconsin named after Howard Morey. I actually took my final FAA flight check for my private certificate with "Field" Morey, Howard's son. I live in Florida now. Love your videos!
Glad you're enjoying the channel Steven and thanks for the history on Morey! Unfortunately we just didn't have the time to make it over but we loved the invited! Never enough time in the day or days in the week. :)
Enjoyed the dusk flying. Adds a new dimension. Thanks Kevin
Hope you had a great time at the lake. Thanks for letting us ride along.
Hi this is Brian and Rachel from California. Just want to let you guys know we really enjoy watching your videos thanks and be safe
Fantastic example of how to take control of ATC for your safety! Well done 👍🏻
One of your best filmed landings to date. :-) Portage, C47 is one of my favorite stops when gathering with friends to fly into OSH for airventure. What a great little municipal airport.
@ Russ Wright - Since you mention enjoying meeting your friends here on the way flying to OSH, I hope you read the comment from David Tesch who posted just before your comment.
He mentioned he works there and saw 1BC parked and thanked them for stopping, went on to say the city is planning on what to do with the airport, from improvements or even closing it. He mentioned a letter to their mayor about the benefits pf keeping it would be helpful.
Im not a pilot but i hate to see the folks that work there and those that enjoy the use of the airport lose it.
Sorry if im sticking my big nose in where it dosent belong but felt ypu might like to know if you had not read his comment already.
Happy Flying!
@@donc9751 I actually had a very long and similar conversation with the manager last year just before Airventure there at Oshkosh. Good folks work there and I agree it would be a shame to lose this gem. Perhaps writing a letter to the mayor would be a good idea. Thanks for the reminder.
Thank you Russ! I'm getting back to the landing feeling I had before the VG's were installed. Just took a bit to get used to the new feel and lower speeds needed. Hope to see ya'll at OSH this year. :)
Glad you got away in the end. Great sunset colours as you departed. Love the invite you got to the STOL comp along the way. Great viewing as always. Best wishes 😎👍🇬🇧Tim
Nostalgia attack. Spent many years in Champaign-Urbana, then off and on over the past ten years visiting Rockford and Eureka. Dearly love that evening post-thunderstorm sky. Thanks for the beautiful view!
Glad to take you back Pete! It was pretty flying into the sun with the storm just passing over. I wish I would have shot it in 4K. :)
@@310Pilot It was still gorgeous. Thanks. Looking up the alley as you taxied away from your hangar, the sky looked like a watercolor painting. Sigh.
That was cool getting a glimpse at being a pilot and co-pilot.. didn't realize how much there is to think about when going from A to B. Thanks!
I’m glad to see you got your co-pilot pilot back. I’m hoping to get mine back here soon!
Love the lights.😊👍
Woo Hoo a good Friday night watching a 310 Pilot video! Thanks guys and keep up the good work! 🍺🍺 15:24 and that's what she said! Bravo
I loved flying at night, visibility is usually better and the air is almost always smoother!!
Awesome husband and wife teamwork nice flight thanks
One of your best, Thanks!
Rockstars! Planes, lake house, killer wake boat...nice...
Love the views after a storm passes through!!!
Good ADM . . .
Stunning view of the sunrise at 3:00 into the video.
sunrise. . . sunset. . . whatever! ;)
Always a pleasure working you guys when you come through MSN :)
The colors in the take off sequence were beautiful. That lake house is very nice indeed!
We have pondered doing that for years, but have decided on another path. You guys have fun.
Nice flight, new landing lites are super. Thanks for taking us along!
Way to be PIC with that controller. Good job.
Thanks Kevin!!
Great one guys! Thanks
The night landing was a nice change of pace...great video as always. Keep them coming!
Damn that view of the sun's rays out from behind the clouds iduring take-off s priceless!
We love y’all’s videos. Y’all 2 kool. Awesome people keep keeping on living the life stay safe.
Enjoyed watching your airmanship 👍
Another great flight. You are the best with your personal vfr rules. No offence to controllers but I am a firm believer that the person in control with the last word is the PILOT.
Y'all are the best pro level for sure thank you
Great job guys!!!!
Nice flight, guys. Your friends have a beautiful place.
Thank you, guys for sharing a fun and interesting flight
Gorgeous sky!!
Really enjoying your videos.
Great flight & decision-making re weather. Wish we could've had some of that rainfall on the fires out west. Hope you enjoyed the lake house. Jaime's not only great on the radios she has great vision. You two work well together! Thanks for sharing.
Nice landing in low light, lake house looks beautiful. It looks like you did a good job for a first attempt. Thanks mate
Really cool flight, I love night flights. Thanks for bringing me along with ya.
Awesome video as usual! Great job on the wake board too! Thanks for sharing.
Sunset was beautiful. “Lowra or Larra’....great flight and vid. Couldn’t imaging wind speeds at alt here without the front. Its been crazy. Get ready for Sat...Go Dawgs
Just received my 310 pilot tee shirt. Nice.
Great landing thanks for a ride along you guys have a good time.
As always a great episode. Thank you.
Proper flight guys many thanks for sharing cheers Paul in the UK 🇬🇧
What a team!
One of my favorite flights was from 1C5 to Michigan City IN in the evening after a big thunderstorm passed through. You could still see the clouds lighting up in the distance and the air was perfectly smooth.
Love night flying, good job U2 !
it's good to see you guys
All the new lights looked great!! So much better! Even my Silverado needs those! LOL 8) --gary
Love flying with you guys even from my easy chair. Taking lots of notes
Hi kevin and Jamie good morning
Beautiful views again I wish I could get pictures on here. Enjoy your trip have
Fun.
Great video yall👍 Hope y’all had great fun😃 See ya on the way back. Oh, nice touch down.
That was a smooth landing.
Can’t wait for Friday’s when a new video comes out. Keep up the good work!
Hi there, nicely done throughout the clouds, always nice to fly with you and Jamie, flying with you brings back allot of my flying times, miss my flying ❤️
Nice new electronic displays 👍🏻. Safe flights always.
Cheers from Australia.
Thank you for this video 👍 greetings from switzerland 🤗
Never miss a moment! Rotate!
Quite a change in weather from departure (that rain was unreal) to destination, the Lake House looks incredible! It sucks about your audio and lights problem, I hope you get to the bottom of it, awesome video once again!
Jamie rocked this flight!! Mind reader, you were asking questions just as I was thinking them. LOL!! The best part....the pilot new alll the answers!
great thanks for sharing !!
Beautiful sky's and way to not let atc push you around! Really helps being Professional Air Traffic Controlers yourselves for sure!
That lake house and grounds ate amazing! What a great place to hang out with your friends! Would of enjoyed some more wale boarding action as well! Was nice seeing you back in the air. Too bad about the electronic glitch they "fixed" for you now glitching up downstream issues!
@Pauly Gambino both are yes, theyve mentioned it in previous videos but not a lot .
savannah ga,
Both ate ATC based in Chicago.
Tap the breaks gear coming up, look at that sky, just amazing guys love the content.
Shout out from Holland, Michigan! Love the channel Kevin and Jaime! I'm always eager for new videos! Thanks for taking us with you and come to West Michigan when you can!
Gremlins go Home!!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Would really like you to post a run up video...👍
When the “gremlin” radio issue resurfaced your wife’s face of concern reminded me of my wife’s whenever a weird sound or engine sputters happened. Their immediate look of concern at us then seeing the calm on our faces went a look way to lower their anxiety.
Thanks for the suggestion! I did recently film the start up procedures for an upcoming video and will be sure to do the same for the run up and pre-flight. :)
Love watching, non pilot learning so much from your vids. Enjoy the info on gauges controls and preventive maintenance. Considering studying for license @ 52
Go for it, I started in March and I am 58
jmtuts how’s your training going? Are you taking a course or studying on your own? If you can share any resources or info I would appreciate. My email- bkwhite6868@hotmail thanks in advance, Brian
good 2 see u back...........
Love your channel guys.
night flying so cool and not 2 busy.............
As always, excellent decision making skills. Of course, those storms made it easy eh? LOL... A bit disconcerting to see that lighting strike just as you were about to take the active but it was far enough away, I guess eh? I totally get the VFR vs IFR call especially in a busy airspace like that... Totally... and of course, you made the right call with ATC. You're eyes are right on the scene and you knew best for your own safety, period... ATC in Florida is used to working with pilots in those conditions, all the time... They will typically give pilots a great deal of leeway in both altitude and heading in order to avoid thermals etc. All in all, great job. I HOPE you guys had fun with the 'Lake Shenanigans'
Beautiful time of the year to fly! Great video Kevin.
Great video as always! Thanks for sharing!
The sky was beautiful at departure.
Another great video. Thanks
Good work with ATC Kevin and Jamie, when you were committed. Thanks for the Vlog!
Nice Ride Kevin... Landing Included! Pretty Skyline upon departure and sometimes accommodating ATC when trying to stay VFR just isn't possible ';-) Beautiful Lake House along with that 340!
this is a really good channel
Awesome video! Tower close early? Thought they closed at 9pm. I definitely don’t have enough experience to get up right after a thunderstorm and go up between those clouds, nice job!
The sky is so beautiful at take off!
I'm nervous on landing and that one was great 👍
man them LED landing lights are awesome...and sure wish you could send us some of your rain lol...great vid as always
Well done. Being ATC really helps to know the grey area rules. Bring on the lake fun.
I used to live in apartments across street from Portage airport. Made friends with pilots, took many flights.
Very cool, small world. :)
Cool! I’ve stopped at Portage (C47) a couple of times on my way in to Oshkosh!
I learned so much from this video, great flying information. If your wife had been a pilot, she would not have asked those questions...
Enjoyed the video. Thanks
Apparently RUclips email notifications are permanently broken on my end. I've been missing everyone's vids! I have everything set on my channel, but nothing ever shows up except replies to comments. How aggravating ...
Beautiful shots through those storm clouds, and what a great place your friends have there! Looks like paradise there! Thanks for sharing as always, Kevin & Jaime! 👍🍻
G'day guys Kevin here from Australia.
Great video thankyou so much for sharing.
Stay safe.
✌ Peace
Thank you for my "Friday fix"! Appreciate you guys!
"Seeyaaaaaa!" Fruity. I like IFR, but I also love "Infantile Flight Rules."
