BLIND Full Stall Grass Landing (Gaston's)

- Jaime, my sister and I fly VFR from Rome, Georgia (RMG) Airport to Gaston's Airport/Resort (3M0) in Arkansas. During the flight we flew through some thick smoke in eastern Arkansas that put a film on the front windshield. That caused a serious restriction of visibility landing into the setting sun on the grass strip surrounded by trees and higher terrain.

I bet it is breathtaking in the fall with the change of colors
I fish a lot in that area, and in fact keep a boat out there. When I had my Arrow, I kept a car parked at BPK, just a few miles away from Gaston's, so I could be fishing just a couple of hours after leaving my home in north Alabama. I always felt Gaston's was a little over-priced (on both food and lodging) so I usually stay a few miles downstream. BPK is a great airport, and White River trout fishing is great!
Well done Kristi!
Christy the reluctant RUclips star of 310 pilot! She is a champ putting up with the brother she loves. Great job Kevin and Jamie.
Quite a dramatic improvement in your sister's reactions from the first vid to this one. I'm impressed.
Wow!! Nice job Kevin! Looks like a beautiful spot!
Kevin, your sister was worried that you would not remember the Gaston airport and not be able to safely land there. I love the questions she asks.
It cracked me up. LOL
Love your airplane! I worked for Cessna as a test flight electrician in the seventies. Spent a lot of time in the right seat setting up the old analogue autopilot on checkout flights. Fun fact: Back then Coors beer wasn't sold east of the Mississippi. Nearly every delivery flight heading east out of Wichita had it's wing lockers full of Coors.
Nice job! Your sister is a trip! Love her laugh. I sympathize cause I'm white knuckles all the way.
Gorgeous setting...looks like a great destination! Really liking the tail cam too!
Love the video you all. Great job Chrissy.
Guys, thank you for sharing.
Gastons. My grandfather used to do full stall landings from about 15’ there. I laughed at him because he was a high time pilot.
Good vlog! Great landing - heard the stall warning. Look forward to more content.
Welcome to Arkansas and Gastons. One of my favorite places. Enjoy
Beautiful approach!
Good lord, vis on that landing......Nice job.
Love !!!! the tail cam.
Great video and landing, looked very tricky in that sunset.
Thanks for another great video. You need to bring your sister on more flights:-)
Hi Kevin!
Valerie and Eric here 😁
Great video!
Are you and Jaime going to be at sun n fun in April?
Would love to get together and meet you both!
Howdy Valerie! We are planning on it for at least a couple days. Not sure exactly which ones yet. PM me on our website (www.310pilot.net) and we can exchange contact info. Hope to see ya'll down there. :)
@@310Pilot awesome! See you soon.
Hot damn.....after every one of these videos I spend the next 2 weeks looking at the airfields on google earth, then looking up the websites from the places they go etc etc etc, and adding them to the "to do in the US" list. yeah... I love the videos. BTW, a well handled landing.
Hey Kevin, I give Kristi all the credit in the world - she's nervous but she still flies. My wife just decided years ago that she didn't want to fly any more. It hurts me to think of all the cool adventures we missed out on. Thanks for taking us along.
Another great video, but I didn't quite understand about the dinner reservation thing.
Rough time o day for 240 landing. Great job!
Sweet tail cam views!
"This is so beautiful"
Jaime- "I gotta pee"
Classic!!
You should have told us you were going to Gastons, we’re not too far from there, my nephew did his soft field landings there as well, but he lives in Bella Vista.
Christy is a warrior.
Great to have the route diagram, really helps make sense of the approach. Thanks Kevin!
I fly out of BPK and the CTAF/UNICOM is different for Gastons than for BPK, FLP and VALLEY you have to really keep a look out. Had an aircraft close and not see me Friday just over the dam no response on BPK freq
Parabéns por este vídeo! Say hi for Brazil!
What did she have to fear? She was wearing her lucky shirt. If I jumped out and scared my wife like that she would beat me up. Jamie is a good sport - or was it just because the camera was on? beautiful spot to visit. Thanks Kevin. Hope to see you guys at ACCA in July.
I really felt sorry for your sister, but when she took that badass lean I just had to laugh.
Love the channel
Who dislikes these video's? they are great!!! love the channel you both are amazing!
Body english... hahah!!!
Welcome to Arkansas
At least nobody fell 3 times getting in the plane!
Lol 😂
310 pilot: "you got to shoot between the trees like goalposts"... 310 pilot's sister: "wait, wait what?". I love her
Ha ha...she's pretty cute. She's getting better slowly over the last 20 years I've been flying her around. :)

Way to go Kristy. You are born again hard as we say in the Marine Corps. For you to go up again is a testament to your tenacity and trust in your brother. I commend you. OK, I went a bit overboard on that. Congrats anyway. You're alive and not the worse for wear LOL.
Kevin, after the last flight with your sister 4-5 months back, I'm surprised she flew with you and Jamie. Your sister needs some anti-anxiety medication as go out for a day of touch and go's.
Your brother looks to be a really good pilot Kristy. We all have fun flying with him and Jamie. You're lucky you are actually in the plane getting to experience what we only watch on you tube. Relax and have fun.
Your sister is adorable! Even with the rough landing she was giving you props, I don't know how you pulled that one off!😬
I thought for a minute that he was gonna have to tell the girls to hush when things got busy.
Those first two trees (left) looked pretty close on the landing.
As always splendid! Your sister is absolutely priceless as is Jaime :-) . Kind regards from Switzerland from an ole 310/421 driver (40 years ago in California...) time sure flies...
Thank you for the GREAT video, Your sister will get better over time.
You both are amazing
Love from INDIA
Loving the tail camera... you videos get better and better thank you
I just bought a 182 and Gaston's is on my list for this year! Just have to get the engine back and the avionics installed.
I think that landing got you qualified for your CAT 3 certification.
Not good for the windshield at sunset was an understatement. Good job.
I would have been in the back seat with sister screaming,”Pull up man !!!” He did the impossible though. Surprised Jamie didn’t pull the handle off the door on this one.
Another great video. Enjoyed following along. Thank you for sharing!
Great job on the landing pattern graphics. I would not want to try and land with the sun in my eyes like that.
You actually trained a camera on her. Did you guys fight when you were kids?
All siblings fight at some point its life.
Mayo vs worms. I think we just got a sneak peak into pillow talk with Kevin and Jamie 😂😆
with little traffic or little wind could you not have landed opposite direction? just a thought?....nice flight ......mental note check windows are clean/clear...cool!!!
Kevin “shoot between the 2 trees like goal posts”...Kevin’s sister “what what?!”
I think her reply was: "Wait! What??" And loaded with concern. : )
Beautiful place & great landing despite the distractions & sun glare.
i never lol so much, but (chic's rule) & she hung in there. awesome little sis.
Love watching you guys. At 67 I haven't flown in several years. I miss it. Y'all keep making me feel young. All good.
Loved it when your sis was leaning out of the bank turning base, as if she was gonna fall out of 1BC, ... a little more left rudder maybe?? LoL!!
So what drone are you using?
I thought that Kevin's effective use of drone footage really stood out in the Bahamas swing.
I take my hat off to good drone pilots,. . .I can fly rotary wing; but I'm too heavy handed to use an R/C Drone ! !
Thanks for the content guys. Kevin your sister always makes me smile .. On a runway like that with a 310 a greaser is a luxury. Have a great weekend !
Your poor sister. I feel so badly for her. A few more times and she'll be ok.
Love that camera view from downwind to base and final. Really awesome view.
Missed you guys. Keep up the good work. I get to fly with great people:)
Your sister is cute.
Wow, that landing was insane, it looked like you were landing in someone's back yard. Also, that was so unfair of you to put a camera on your sister. 😅 Well played!
Nice video! Always enjoy watching your sister cringe during the flights....lol! Hopefully she's getting better.
"Roll Tide!" nice lil jab! lol
When ever I fly someplace there is no one else flying or everyone is flying at the airport I'm flying into.
Awesome, love the tail cam , Thanks 310
I love your videos. I hate flying but for some reason I like watching yours. I do the same thing your sister does. I grab anything I can in takeoff and landing. Have fun and be safe.
Good job landing Bravo Charley with the sunshine’s your faces
The White River holds some of the best tasting catfish there is. . . Anywhere. And I really admire your sister. I'm afraid of heights, but not flying. But she fights the fear. That's bravery. Enjoy your adventures and the flights. Keep it up.
Beautiful! That's Ok, I already forgot about the "I can't see" part. Not!
Wow, landing into the sun. You say it was a little rough--I say not bad at all, given the situation.
Thanks for the video. I thought your sister did much better, all the way up until the end where she was trying to climb uphill in the back seat to get away from the turn! 😂
"But you remember it... right?"
*Looks dead at the camera*
WOW! I'd have the same reaction as your sister on final lol. Let's call that a firm landing, probably wouldn't pass the soft field landing on a checkride, but I've had a few of those too, not being able to see is no fun! Excellent video!
I’m finally in multi training flying a 310. This summer head out west and I’d be happy to fly you around Yellowstone and the Tetons. You’re sister is still flying with you so that’s good! Keep up the great video’s.
I'd take the worms vs mayo..but if you added macaroni, onions, celery and tuna with S&P..I'd take the mayo.😃👍🏻👍🏻
It's okay Kristy, your bro has this stuff down. As a guy with over 30 years in aviation...he wouldn't be holding the ratings he has if he didn't have the skills. And...if he wasn't good enough to have those ratings...well...I shouldn't say it...but he would never have gotten this far. I applaud his professionalism and your courage as a passenger. Should your bro ever offer, I would suggest you sit up front, and escape the surly bonds of Earth under your own control. He knows of what I speak...
I both LOL'd and sympathised with the "body English" :-D
Super cool video tough landing into the setting sun but you nailed it having sis along was a true bonus Enjoy Arkansas!!
In situations like this during landings experience means everything, nice job Kevin.
That was some harsh landing conditions! I did a straight into a low sun to a paved runway last summer and it was brutal. You add in the obstacles, the grass, the windscreen film, the nervous passenger and the short(ish) runway, that's a lot of challenge. Doesn't matter how smooth the landing was, just landing was an accomplishment.
A no sunglass landing into the sun. Well done. Got some 310 Pilot merchandise. Wearing it proudly.
I like the addition of the diagram that explained how you were going to make your approach for the airfield in Gaston. Another great video! Keep em coming!
Wait are you from Rome? My wife went to Berry...I spent many a day there over the years.
Always fun to watch your sister fly!!
I saw your sister was here and thought "This is going to be great!"
Rome,NY traffic is ok here hi guys
That’s a pretty blouse Jamie has on, Looks like buckskin color. Kind of Alaska Chic. Great video.
DANGEROUS Strip Kevin!!!
Podunk grass strips are the worst. Learned to fly in a Cessna 170 on a grass strip in 1958.
@@glennellis1584 Its kind of an inside joke. Kevin and I make fun of this pilot that used make videos playing up all sorts of Drama and he made a video claiming that Gaston's was the most dangerous airport to try and impress his female passengers.. We fly there frequently. It's not a big deal if you are on your numbers.
@@JustPlaneSilly "Over The River & Through The Woods To a Grass Strip We Will Go">>>>>
I've seen worse, but the power lines on base must be a challenge, to pilots not from the area. When it snows ???????
Being from Southeast Mo, we fly to Gaston’s for lunch on occasion. Love the atmosphere there! Great video!
Those little out of the way airports make it all worthwhile, eh?
Cheers,
Rik Spector
That landing was crazy dude. Great job Kev.
That blind landing had me thinking, "There could be a cow standing on the runway and I'd never see her."
Thank you for giving us a few minutes of tranquility and relaxation with your videos. Love your Tail cam and your crew. You all are the best, a hug from the punished Spain 🇪🇸
HaHaHa.... gotcha.. LOL..
Your sis did really good !!
Sister cam was funny LOL. Wonder if that flight of 4 was an intentional 'missing man formation'?? Good vid guys!! 8) --gary
