- Portuguese lesson: Learn how to use the verb Ficar correctly so you can speak better Portuguese.
Literally the verb Ficar means to stay.
However it can also mean to be or to get, as when I say that my husband was surprised to hear the news, or my cat was surprised at the sudden noise. This is a very common use of the verb Ficar and one that speakers of Portuguese as a foreign language tend to get confused with.
The goal of this Portuguese lesson is to help you understand this important use of Ficar once and for all.

You started us out with a "How to" video on How to utilize the Portuguese Verb Ficar... and then after the wonderful video you so gently help us begin utilizing the verb by pointing us to the most common emotions we will use it with as well as another outlet with your other "Where is" video.
I am not at all being sarcastic by making this comment but I have to say that I wish others everywhere were this ABC 123 with learning. It should not be so complicated. You have a phenomenal mindset and your approach carries a spirit of genuinely wanting to equip people with your language and do so practically!

Ficar - the transition of emotions is better translated as “to become.” In colloquial English, “to become” often becomes “to get”/“to be. I hope you like what I did there (lol). So, someone’s father died and I became very sad...

You use ficar to be/to get when something happens and you become a certain emotion. Kinda like " to get scared , to be surprised after something happens, etc. a change in how you feel because of something that happened. , to get sick, to get angry etc. or a change in state (example something happens and then you get wet, or dry, or hot etc. ) "
1. A bit confused on the past tense stress pattern ( FI-quei or fi-QUEI)?

I love this channel but, perhaps due to the similarity of both languages, I find it much easier to learn Portuguese with translations/interpretations in Spanish. I took an intense course in college and that's how I ended up subscribing to your channel. Do you have or recommend another channel which teaches Portuguese to native Spanish speakers? Thanks.

if you speak Spanish, you know 70% of Portuguese.. just learning the words which are different and practicing listening, and that's it! é fácil demais! ler em voz alta, ouvir bastante e aprender vocabulário e expressões.. mamão com açúcar! boa sorte
