    I had zoas when I first bought a small tank. They were ok, but then began to die off. I had to do so much research and finally bought Red Sea Coral Salt and bought ZOAS four days ago. I don't have a chiller, so it's risky (living in Thailand) to keep anything coral because it's too hot. However, I turn on the air to make sure the room temperature doesn't plummet. After four days, the ZOAS are looking BEAUTIFUL. Feeding themn some great food and I have a brain coral that's enjoying the environment, too. Ten gallon with no fish (had a huge fish die off so just learning about water now and making sure I quarantine ALLLL LIVEEEESTOCKKK).

    looking forward to the zoa troubleshooting guide! Several colonies of my zoas are struggling, while other colonies right next to them (and on a frag rack) are doing perfectly fine. I don't see any pests, so my friend suggested maybe it could be fungal? Everything else in the mixed reef tank is doing great, and my parameters are fine. It's weird, because I also lost a colony of duncans the same time half my zoas started going downhill.
    Now, some of the polyps are opening again after a month or so being closed up.... There are still many polyps still closed up while other zoas next to them have never closed at all during this ordeal. I am so confused lol

    I don't suppose you know whether Rastas or Sunny D's are particularly toxic? I just don't want to get sick if a rock falls and squashes them. Also, if I need to cut some off a rock underwater in my scape, do I need to worry about the other animals in there?

    You are not kidding about palytoxin. Its happened to me. If you are not into simultaneously bleeding from your gums, ears and nose, i would suggest using extreme caution while fragging. I thought i washed my hands very thoroughly and ate an apple after fragging and it was a very unpleasant experience.

    • @ShadowTheNinjaKitty
      @ShadowTheNinjaKitty 3 года назад +1

      You bled from your gums, ears, and nose? Dang I’m sorry to hear that.
      When my tank was having hair algae issues I was picking hair algae out from the tank, including from between palys and other corals. Not sure if it was the algae, some other thing I touched, palytoxin, etc but I started to sneeze and have hay fever like symptoms while doing this. I got a fever a couple of hours later and just felt bad. Felt fine the next day.
      Definitely some sort of short term allergic reaction to something. Haven’t had it since, but I also have had a different tank since then!

    • @fishpony1211
      @fishpony1211 3 года назад

      @@ShadowTheNinjaKitty yea it was really crazy. I am assuming i pretty much ate the toxin. It was probably under my finger nail. You know when u eat apples little pieces get stuck in your teeth. It started day on as a gum infection, then on the second day ear infection after that it was all down hill. Yea i have had friends with similar symptoms as you. This stuff is no joke.

    As a side note: I even tried a
    Soaking a rock in muriatic acid, then a soak in fresh water for weeks,,, and the bastards survived.

Anyone else experience this? My nitrates did slowly increase from 4 to 12 as well. Mostly due to switching out a failed red sea seam aquarium and I reduced nopox to increase ph. Any ideas?
