    These two probably have the healthiest marriage in this entire franchise. They're always a team who puts up a united front for their family in front of others, instead of squabbling like Viserys and Alicent or Robert and Cersei. And they genuinely seem to care about and support each other through everything.

      I thought the same. The child on the throne would still be of Velaryon blood, what many parents to noble daughters want, and the other possible heirs would be princes and princesses bearing the name Velaryon.
      Also, Viserys said, "When their FIRSTBORN ascends the Iron Throne," there's a loophole there. If the firstborn dies before they can ascend the throne, or dies before they can have an heir, the next ruler would be their sibling, who still has the Velaryon name.

    Honestly Viserys was a weak ass King tho, let's be real. Fair that he loved his daughter, but he let her get away with so much shit that he jeopardized the whole 7 kingdoms. Rhaenyra was spoilt since childhood and she knew her father would support her, no matter what. I think if Rhaenys was chosen as Queen... the Targaryen line would have thrived. She was always very real and down to earth about everything, I really liked her character.

    • @kierakayz
      @kierakayz  Год назад +66

      I agree with the sentiment that at that point in time, the Targaryen dynasty might have thrived under Rhaenys, and the dance of dragons wouldn't have happened (at that point).
      But I'd say the nature of a dynasty, having powerful weapons of mass destruction (dragons), the incest and the unchecked power and privilege that comes with being royalty, would have undone their dynasty at some other point. The countless civil wars and the blackfyre rebellions etc. are proof they were always headed towards self destruction.
      A last point, Rhaenyra isn't as bad as some of the other Targaryens considering the privileges she was born into. Male Targaryens have gotten away with being that much worse human beings.

      How does his love for his daughter make him a weak king?! What did you expect him to do have her sons killed?! And even then it was expected that she have heirs. It’s no one’s fault that Laenor was gay and couldn’t get it up.

    • @cars81434
      @cars81434 Год назад +20

      @@sascham-yb9ds I think they meant that Viserys is at fault to see the big picture being that Westeros is heavily a patriarchy society yet he call Rhaenyra as his heir cause of being butt hurt from Daemon and his failure to have an authentic male heir.
      He should’ve know that by time he remarried and had a son that many would expect Aegon, as much how awful he is, to be heir. That basically how that society work and function. Yet he still remain resilient to have Rhaenyra his heir which slowly started to cause a drift towards battlefield between the Greens and Blacks.
      And cause Rhaenyra was made heir, it basically made her think she can do whatever she wants. While I think it also at Daemon fault to advising her to sleep around, it basically inflate Rhaenyra to do what she likes by sleeping with other men even when she married. Marrying Laenor who was gay enhance Rhaenyra to sleep with Harwin despite how hard she tried sleeping with Laenor.
      Don’t get me wrong, while I support Rhaenyra as being heir and Queen, she did made bad choices that she shouldn’t do.
      Anyways Viserys should’ve know that the realm wouldn’t accept her with Aegon. Heck even Rhaenys knew this beforehand but Rhaenyra didn’t understand that well. Honestly, Viserys set Rhaenyra up for failure the moment he remarry

      The Baratheons & the Celtigars seemed to have slipped into fitting into Westerosi culture, partially because they held less Valyrian features- whereas the Targaryens (their later Blackfyre branch) & Velaryons maintained traditional Valyrian colouring, thus keeping them forever removed to some degree from the rest....

      Yes, you did mention Celtigar- I was just reiterating it in my own list.
      Aerion Targaryen left Valyria with his _wives_ (plural, so it can be assumed he was a dragon rider), 5 dragons, & *supporters* - clearly lesser Valyrian houses that were adherents of his.
      We don't know what the Valyrian customs surrounding bastardy were before the Conquest- they may well have had no concept of it (not entirely impossible- the wildlings don't (First Men in origin, but still- there's no reference to Northern bastards before Brandon Snow, so it may well have been an Andal custom in origin), nor do many of the cultures of the Free Cities (which also descend from the Valyrian Freehold)), & they allowed polygamy & practiced incest when it came to dragonlords (of which the Targaryens were the last in existence) so clearly, there's a divergence of custom - the show has given a little insight into some Valyrian customs (though whether the writers got that marriage custom direct from GRRM, or purely made it up themselves, is unclear)
      And I did indeed forget about Longwaters (much easier to forget than Blackfyre, you'll agree), thank you for reminding me...
