  • Shoutout to @cydneyreads for requesting this. "the Queen that never was" is definitely one of my favourite characters on this show so this was a no-brainer.
    Also, thanks, everyone for watching, subscribing and liking my videos, particularly the House of the Dragon ones ;).
    P.S. This is the first of 4 Rhaenys videos I am planning to put together.

      To be fair, in the books Daemon was close to Corlys and they saw the coordinated effort by the maesters and Hightowers to keep Targaryen/Valaryon power from the throne.
      Daemon and Laena had by all reports, a loving marriage on Driftmark for 11 years (with Rhaenyra in close company as Dragon Stone and Driftmark are close by). Daemon got on well with Rhaenys as she was a dragon rider (specifically riding Daemon’s mother, Alyssa,’s dragon) and House V despite not being a dragon riding house with the exception of Rhaenys, Laenor, and Laena, kept very much to the customs of Valeria.
      Whereas Viserys barely kept Valerian tradition, and was more open to assimilating to Westerosi ways.
      Not saying he was perfect but a lot of ‘Fire and Blood’ is a hit piece on Daemon. He definitely didn’t kill Rhea Royce, and it’s more likely that the 2nd exile was because asked for his niece’s hand while still married, not because he bad-touched her.
      When you look into Fire and Blood and the Rogue Prince, it becomes evident that Daemon’s agenda is to have children with women of valerian descent in order to produce more dragon riders/ppl with magical genes.
      While the prophecy is both a show/not a show thing, Daemon clearly knew something about it as he was taking a page from his grandmother, Alysanne (she fortified The Wall, made sure that roads were built so militaries could be deployed easily, etc.), and making preparations for the Long Night.

    Bethroting Jacaerys to Baela and Lucerys to Rhaena Targaryen is a power move. Like their hypotetical children will still have Velaryon and Targaryen genes flowing.

    • @janellejulianajoy
      @janellejulianajoy Год назад +33

      A move that only benefits Rhaenyra. Let's be honest and say it as House Velaryon didn't need Rhaenyra. It is the other way around. I'm shocked the Green's didn't try and weasel their way in because House Velaryon is one of the main reasons Rhaenyra survived as long as she did.
      Imagine them declaring for Aegon. This gives them the Velaryon fleet as well as Rhaenys by default unless she chose to be neutral.
      People speak on Helaena and Jace being a missed opportunity, but nah, this was.

    • @kryztyn127
      @kryztyn127 Год назад +20

      @janellejulianajoy
      It does for Rhaenyra but in the long run it heals old wounds and binds the realm. Remember, the reason why Rhaenyra was married to Laenor was because of King Viserys turning down to marry Laena, this was strike two on the Velaryon's side (the first one was Princess Rhaenys being passed over in favor of her uncle Prince Baelon). The Velaryons have a powerful fleet and also Dragons, King Viserys at least knew that he can be opposed by the Velaryons, hence the marriage pact. Hence the Velaryons declaring for the Blacks.
      If Jace and Haelana would indeed marry. No more future quarrels with the Velaryons and no split factions in the court. The Dance of the Dragons was a stupid war that ended in the decline and eventual extinction of their dragons. Also bottlenecked the whole Targaryen family.
      Also this makes me think, since Westeros is a patriarchal society, did Aegon III's future claim came from his descent as the next senior male branch (from his father Daemon).

    • @fortheloveofcats2462
      @fortheloveofcats2462 Год назад +18

      @@janellejulianajoyHouse Valeryon didn't "need" Rhaenyra, but they saw her as family (which she was, Valeryon blood ran through her veins, just as Targaryen blood ran through Corlys's). You don't "need" your family but you support them anyways. Laenor and Laena would've unconditionally supported Rhaenyra since they were very close, Corlys was behaving in a fatherly way towards Rhaenyra, and with 3 members of her family supporting Rhaenyra, Rhaenys would've naturally supported her as well (also Rhaenys was close to Viserys and Aemma than Alicent and Otto). The only Valeryon not supporting her was Vaemond, and the odds were certainly not in his favor.

    • @rlnvwee
      @rlnvwee 11 месяцев назад +7

      It benefits both sides. Jace is set to inherit the Iron throne after his mother Rhaenyra, he would be the first Velaryon(by name but will transition to Targaryen once he is crowned) to become King of the 7 Kingdoms, Baela will become eventually.@@janellejulianajoy

    • @janellejulianajoy
      @janellejulianajoy 8 месяцев назад +4

      @@fortheloveofcats2462Be honest. Who saw her as family BESIDES Corlys and Laenor? Rhaenys, a Velaryon through marriage does not. In fact she blamed her for Laenor. She doesn't even like Rhaenyra. You think.Vaemond is the only one with hesitance?! The moment Corlys died they'd look to ensure Luke didn't inherit.
      The execution of Vaemond for telling the truth was another strike against them. Like, they fucked this house over and expect unbridled allegiance?! No. Even the last get out of jail free card carrying Strong son breaks his betrothal to Baela for a bastard.
      These people should've remained neutral. No respect was ever really given to them by the royal family. If I'm Corlys then I would've told Rhaenyra where she could shove it. Period. Handle it on your own. At some point actions have to be reciprocated.

    Even though they didn't have much screen time together you can tell Rhaenys loved her children and grandchildren very much. I also love that after she talks with Corlys about the Laenor's son that she seems to accept them moving forward. One of my favorite moments for Rhaenys and Corlys was when they rushed to protect Jace and Luce when Alicent came at Luce/Rhaenyra with a knife. Now that the time skips are over, I'm excited to see her and Corlys get more screentime with their grandchildren.

      yes!!! this!!!! so true. I love the mutual respect and love they all have for each other. Corlys and Rhaenys are the blueprint.
      You're right that even if they don't see eye to eye on something they discuss it and come to a compromise and that's that. Another example I love is when Corlys arrived after his illness and he was telling her that they're done with the iron throne and choosing sides, but then she updated him on her point of view, and when he came down to Rhaenyra and her war council, he had changed his mind because he listened to his wife.

She’s already lost two children(although one of them is still alive but she doesn’t know that), might lose her husband, as they seem to love each other, and now Rhaenyra really expects her to join them after not even telling her that Laenor is alive. As his mother, she has a right to know that. Even though Daemon and Rhaenyra didn’t actually kill Laenor, they are horrible people for not telling Corlys or Rhaenys at all. Shameful.

    I do like that Rhaenys is not on board with Daemon or Rhaenyra’s bullshit.Like when she approaches her by the heart tree, and tries to be all casual despite the fact she literally decided to not deny she murdered Laenor and thought it would make her feared and respected, and Rhaenys just looks at her like “The audacity of this bitch”.Or when Rhaenyra tries to get her support at first with nothing to offer, and a empty promise she did not kill Laenor, as if it’s fine that her only true grandchildren will get nothing and be disinherited so her bastard kids can have driftmark and the iron throne.
    And she’s not pleased with Daemon at all, she knows him far better then Rhaenyra can pretend she does, she knows he’s been grooming her since childhood so he can marry her and take the throne, and she blames him for Laena’s death and the fact she could never see her daughter again nor even her own granddaughters until their mothers death.She knows just what sort of man he is and suspects he had Laenor killed, and the audacity of him to marry Rhaenyra so soon after Laenors death, so soon after his own wife Laena died.
    And she’s not impressed because Rhaenyra is just being his pawn, she’s a fool who thinks he loves her only and is someone he is not.
    Season 2 I think she’s going to get more disillusioned and fed up with both of them, and this will likely carry on to Corlys and Baela and Rhaena, since Daemon does Blood and Cheese and the head of Jaeharys is diplayed by him like a trophy to Rhaenyra, which I doubt the two girls, Corlys and Rhaenys will be fine with, then Rhaenyra being cowardly by not sending anyone to fight and Rhaenys herself having to fight, then once she’s dead Corlys will hate Rhaenyra and see her and her sons a lot less positively since now Joffrey is the only way Velaryons can have driftmark and he’s way too young, the two girls will also resent the R and D for this and then when the battle of the gullet happens even more anger, since they have lost driftmark, high tide, the wealth, 1/3 the fleet and Rhaenys, and now it means that Rhaenyra can only bethroth Joffrey to one of them, which means Rhaena will be lady of driftmark with no ties to the throne now since only 1 strong remains.
    Rhaenyra will i suspect end up with a siduation like the karstarks, close kin and powerful allies whose loyalty is now frayed and she must do her best to try and keep them on her side, despite the loss of their family, home, castle, and wealth in support of her.

      It's explained in a deleted scene. Rhaenys helps because of Baela. Rhaenys was getting ready to leave with Rhaena and Baela until the latter protested. Corlys wanted to leave as well.
      They should've declared neutrality because this fight is not theirs. They gained nothing from allying themselves with Rhaenyra. Through Daemon, they at least got Baela and Rhaena. The show chose to erase everything that would make this alliance understandable, as in F&B, Laena and Rhaenyra are very good friends. Daemon also has a good relationship with Corlys.

    Otto and Alicent is greedy. Their are not gonna share power. Otto went as far as trying to marry baby Aegon to Rhaenyra. If Alicent is really smart - she had have Helaena marry Jace and Aegon and Aemond marry the Velaryon girls. That ensure all her fort covered - from the Targaryen to Hightower to Velaryon. Daemon won't be able to do anything cause his not the head of any house. At least Rhaenyra attempted to permanently squash the problem at one point, unlike Alicent. Corlys is right. His choices - in the end - always benefits and made sure his name survive. Who needs legit heirs when the line is running extinct? Who cares if they don't have Laenor's blood if they carry the name? Heck, Laenor happily named the youngest after his lover. He wanted his "first born" - Jace - to be named Joffrey but Corly's did not agree. LOL

    I can't stand her , sorry but she is just a shadow of the real Rhaenys from the books they also made an amazing house ( Velaryons ) useless and annoying in the show

    Idk why Rhaenyra and her husband couldn't make at least one kid together. Just to keep the blood line going at least lol

    Did she say marry her sons to Lord Corlys granddaughters? They are also his grandsons

      Valyrians marriage is often close. So marrying close family is common. But also a degree of separation which is natural in that they were discussing Rhaneyra’s children but also recognizing others aswell. Instead of saying Laena make a reference to Corlys.

      They are not. Those children are bastards. I love them, but, it is what it is.

    God, the 7 Kingdoms were so much wealthier, more lively, had fuckin dragons etc before the Usuper and Mad King. Too bad the future isn't bright either with freakin Bran as king.

    The hair and makeup department did a disservice to the Velaryon actors/actresses. Their hair looks like bad Halloween costumes.

    I’m mixed race and the casting for Laenas kids are waaaay off. Laena is mixed race and daemon is white, those kids blacker than Laena 😂. How Laena got curls and her girls got locs beyond me.
