  • The rounded, peaty hills of Dumfries, located two hours away from Glasgow on Scotland’s southern border, form the setting for the Garden of Cosmic Speculation. When Charles Jencks and his wife, Maggie Keswick, moved into this 18th-century manor, a peaceful castle in the heart of the British countryside, nothing presaged its incredible transformation. Charles Jencks is an architect and Maggie Keswick is a landscape designer; he is a student of postmodernism, and she is an expert in Chinese gardening.
From their love story was born a new kind of landscape. Straddling the border between mathematics and cosmogony, this garden tells nothing less than the story of the universe, from DNA to black holes, from the very large to the infinitesimally small. A revolution in the art of gardening, made famous by its landforms - immense, perfect hills - where scientific allusions are hidden behind every bush.

Thank you for sharing such an incredible content that the world must watch. This mind-blowing garden celebrates the wonders of the cosmos and the amazing flora of our planet.

8:10 Not sure why Marion was speaking about the history of landform in England in this section, with no reference to Scotland. She must not have realised that she had crossed the border, which is probably fair enough given the voting history of that area, but still. Otherwise... great intro to a really interesting place.

I visited it yesterday. It’s great. It took us 3 hours to get around. It’s only open 2 days a year, and you have to book the day the tickets become available. Then there are 4 sessions - 2 on the Saturday, and 2 sessions on the Sunday.
