The problem(s) with architecture and building like this is sustainability, but not in the environmental-impact sense. The sustainability problem that this house, for example, faces is that, once the architect, this interior designer, and whomever else that worked in this house retires and/or passes away, who is going to know how to sustain and maintain this house? If something breaks, like the plumbing, how are they going to fix it behind 2 feet of pressed rock?
This is not to say this house was poorly made (quite the opposite, actually), but it is to legitimize why there are “so many modern houses” that are “boring, like blocks.”

    • @ABCD-wt5ey

I don't know why. But this house makes me emotional. I remember having a dream as a child about a house in the desert, maybe Arizona or Palm Springs, and the house was interwoven and displaced by large boulders, and the master bedroom had a glass interior wall, like a gallery, and inside was the master bed built into the rocks, with a clear water stream making a moat between the bed, and the exterior wall, and double-glass doorway of the master suite.
The way the sun and the shadows played off the natural curvature of the buildings, archways, and hallways, some which were semi open-air breezeways will never be forgotten to me.

The blend of materials, surfaces, shape, texture, colour is so magical within its setting, like a treasure box lost by a giant in a rock garden. The challenge in linking such eccentric shapes together is a masterpiece of engineering and all kudos to the builders and artisans who put it together to such dazzling effect. I first became enraptured about architecture after seeing a documentary about Bruce Gough, so thrilled to find another visionary to look at and discover and what a treat to have John Vugrin give us such an intimate and informed insight into how it came about. This has been realised to a level of perfection that I hope they feel incredibly proud of. Utterly complete and at one with its surroundings ❤️

There’s a Gaudi-like feeling to this space. It’s like looking through a microscope of enlarged cell-like structures- even though the materials are of stone glass and metal, there is movement and flow. LOVE

what amazes me is how long they've been working on this! really goes to show a house is as much a living creature as the people in it. it's an ongoing project that takes a lot of love & labour before creative visions are fully realised.

Like an alien/Gaudi collaboration, great stuff. The joining of glass to rock to metal reminds me of the Temppeliaukio church in Helsinki.

This is the most beautiful piece of art ive seen in my life! Its like it melts and flows like a salvador Dali but it also strikes in different directions like a Pollock.

Just wow. So much of modern architecture and design is cold. This is somehow futuristic but also inviting. I love how it seamlessly blends in to its natural surroundings. Bravo.

Is it normal this bring tears to my eyes? Can we be amazed by another arquitecture after this? Its brilliant the amount of detail! This is so inspiring I was holding my breath while watching this I think my heart stopped for a little bit! Thank you for showing it to us.

There are other amazing contemporary architects like Hadid, who passed 8 years ago, and Ma Yansong, who designed the under construction Lucas Museum in Los Angeles.

I’m devoid of adjectives to describe this masterpiece of inventive yet organic free thought. Brilliant, perhaps the most abstract yet thematic house in the world. No guardrails or cultural norms in this design, just whatever the moment suggested, and in great detail, no inch overlooked.

I wish Miles and John had a chance to see this. They would have fully understood the magnificent jazz and abstraction of it. The unifying of all the unique forms and all the amazing ideas into the surrounding environment is brilliant. Everywhere your eye moves throughout the dwelling is somewhere beautiful, full of beautiful things. Those Sputnik lights must be amazing to see in the deep darkness of such a place. I’m honored to have seen this.

Wow, I thought that this would be one of those ridiculous whimsical projects that these rich people with no idea of what to make with their billions would throw his money in just to say that it's big and it cost whatever, but this thing is really really beautiful and creative. There should be a whole neighborhood like that. A whole town. Made like that, all over the rocks.

I love this! Very retro-future... I'd love to see something like this made again, but modernized and ultra-luxurious. Would be otherworldly, and need a budget to match!
