The First Ever DRS Overtake in F1

- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2024
- This is actually the first DRS overtake happening on live television.
The very first one happened a bit earlier at the same place when Fernando Alonso overtook Nico Rosberg but it was not broadcasted on live TV.
"There's an overtake using a button." by Jenson Button
Truly one of the overtakes of all time.
Not Jenson
If it was Hamilton they'd require tissues in the commentary box and it would go down in history..... Yawning!
@@Dean-wh4mm Jenson was the one who made the overtake, so yes
@@davefred Jenson didn't say it
Crazy how small DRS was back then, nowadays the DRS rear wing gaps are massive
they need to find a way to make racing these modern trucks entertaining. its like theyre on life support. turbo V6 + mgu-k + mgu-h + ERS + DRS and the racing quality is still shockingly bad.
during the V8 era it was just pure NA V8s and KERS, with DRS towards the end, and the racing was fantastic especially 2006-2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012. meanwhile the hybrid era has been domination only with Mercedes having the longest domination period in F1 history (2014-2020) with 2017 and 2021 being the only good entertaining seasons. and ofcourse right after leaving Mercedes' domination, we've entered Red Bull's
@@R9naldo I really think you look at the past through rose rinted spectacles... the racing was pretty terrible 2006-2008 imo, and it's significantly better now. Especially in 2008 with all the crazy aero pieces they had on the car that make them incredibly difficult to follow which in turn made overtaking extremley hard and resulted in hardly any overtakes...
I think this season hasn't been great for the WDC of course, but there has still been good racing further down the field. And I mean, that is always going to happen at times in f1. It's nothing new. Before Red bull there was merc. Before merc there was red bull again. Before them there was ferrari. Beforer ferrari there was williams. Before williams there was mclaren... etc etc. Teams have dominated certain seasons since basically the beginning of f1, and it'll always occur some seasons unless f1 becomes a spec series.
@@Drenwickification2023 has been the closest season in the hybrid era and is the most equal field I have ever seen in Formula One. Max is just that good. If it was all the car Checo would get 2nd every race
@@RubensBarrichello. How do you know it's not just because checo sucks?
I mean, checo has been knocked out in q1 3 times and q2 5 times this season. Are you telling me that is just simply the pace of the car and it's not fast enough to get into q3 every race? But it's just max with his incredibly talent dragging it to p1 every single race with ease? How come max wasn't able to dominate this much in 2022 or 2021? Did he just get a lot better in 2023 somehow?
Put alonso, leclerc, hamilton, russell, norris, bottas, sainz, piastri, and probably some others in that car and I can guarantee they would be EASILY 2nd in the WDC, not clinging on for dear life like checo is.
Max is obviously an incredible driver but come on, saying that the pace of the red bull is quite equal with the rest of the field is just laughable
@@Drenwickification the red bulls race pace is incredible. Checo is 2nd overall and 1 of 2 people to beat Max in a race this year, so to say that he sucks is moronic and really doesn't justify a conversation. Have a good day.
No way the first DRS overtake was up until lap 25 💀
Welcome to Melbourne
There was one earlier in the race but it wasn’t broadcasted
I think Alonso on Rosberg
Wouldn’t it be even later than 25 since the lap counter used to count down to 0, or was this after they changed that?
The size of the wings on these cars weren't as big as the post-2017 ones, so the impact of DRS wasn't as big. Plus there were less and smaller zone for it in 2011.
At first I barely noticed that the rear wing was open. I'm amazed of how much the gap of the drs has increased over the years
McLarens DRS wasn’t as big at the start of the season but I think from Belgium onwards it was bigger
@@darylyatestransportblogs i mean im pretty sure they all make it as big as possible because anything else would be really stupid lol.. Which is about the size of a tennis ball apparently last time I checked.
Well the racing is so bad the FIA feel the need to give casual viewers lots of "action" - so bigger DRS regs come around. There's not been a proper dry weather overtake in F1 for years.
@@Malc180s We had plenty of non-DRS overtakes this season alone. What the fuck are you talking about.
Yeah. And the gap from the DRS is just the normal gap now too lol
This was the exact moment Formula One™ world champion Jenson Button made an overtake using a button.
I pressed the play button to watch a video of Jenson Button pressing the DRS button to make an overtake,
Team radio: "Button now"
Jenson: "What?"
Team: "The button, now"
Jenson: "Now what???"
If I ever make an F1 quiz this is the first question
so that's how misinformation works in the internet
I forgot how tiny DRS opening was in the past. I was waiting for it to be open the whole straight. I had to re-watch it.
These cars were so much lighter and more nimble. We should return to that.
Hopefully in 2026
@@roshanramesh2634ha, they want to put even bigger batteries in the cars.
The ones from this era were pretty ugly to be fair though
@@MatthewLee8383 whaaaat
A lot of the weight comes from safety. But lighter cars are more fun to drive and more fun to watch so they should go for the lightest car possible while still maintaining safety. Maybe the batteries will become super effective and we can use really light batteries.
The First Ever "Broadcast" DRS Overtake in F1...Alonso had done it on Rosberg before this moment
Read the description next time
Title is misleading and I'm the one at fault here coz it's in the description? come on@@TehAzaack
@@jaguatiricaimediata5305 yeah , descriptions are there for a reason
Oh of course, before watching a video I'm gonna read the description, the terms and conditions and the disclaimers to ensure I'm properly ready to appreciated it adequately. I was such an ignorant swine@@delayedcreator4783

The McLaren MP4-26 was such a good looking car. The sidepods were super interesting.
The MP4-26 was amazing and the livery was spectacular but Jesus Christ those L-sized sidepodes were trash... They made it look anorexic compared to the rivals
Jenson realizes what the purpose of his surname was
0:20 BUTTON using a BUTTON😂
Here we can see Button making an overtake by pressing a button.
*using
The first DRS overtake was Alonso on Rosberg in that race around lap 4 or 5
tbf they had push to pass in 1993 with active suspension. Driver's would press the button and the car would lift a little higher to reduce drag
@@R9naldo Hardly similar. Anyone could have done that, in front or behind.
@@Malc180s but surely you have to be careful not to do it too early before the straight or on a bumpy section (as tracks in that period were extremely bumpy), cause that would upset the car maybe even enough to spin out
need to be brits yk
The camera view tho... good times
Chrome finish, Vodafone livery, plus that L shape sidepods! MP4-26 is gorgeous!!!
I find it hard to believe that the first DRS overtake was on lap 25, or if the laps still counted down, more than halfway into the race. First one broadcasted?
Yeah it is on the description. The first one wasn't broadcasted, it was from Alonso to Rosberg
This reminds me… i miss this track layout of Melbourne before they did the recent changes to add another DRS section. Sucks because that Turn 9-10 chicane was so cool, seeing the drivers get super close to the wall on the exit and even trying to replicate that on the games. The flow was still good i think they should’ve left T9 and T10 instead of creating a “straight”…
Ohh my God that sound!!!
Am I the only one who doesn't like DRS? In todays F1 probably 70% of overtakes are with the help of DRS, and because of that, drivers would rather wait until the DRS zone to overtake. I think that because of DRS almost every overtake looks the same, which makes F1 look boring.
There were very few overtakes before. DRS implementation done well has both cars going in to the braking zone side by side. That's what you want. There is no question it improves racing.
@@VColossalV”No question” only if boring wave by passes are racing. Utter nonsense.
@@Willie_Pete_Was_Here Yes, no question. At least with some of these "wave by passes" there's an actual battle, where it allows both cars to be side by side going into the braking zone. DRS can be too strong if the detection zone isn't placed well, but it's the only reason there are any overtakes at all. Some of the greatest battles of the past decade have happened because of DRS, not in spite of it.
Te first overtake with DRS was Alonso to Rosberg on lap 7 I think.
“There’s an overtake using a button”
Says it all really
This might have been the first sea overtake when it was built into regulations. But one of the teams invented the sea rear wing and used it before it was banned
Sea?
I'm truly surprised how you can't sea what he meant...
The beginning of the end
Ofcourse if there’s overtaking it will somehow involve kobayashi
Today DRS wing is like a garage door compare to this one
The begining of the end
I was checking out KERS, extra power each lap. 🔥
This first overtake finish with the F1.
This was the only grand prix I've ever been to. Hoping to go back in 2024 after 13 years
The gap is so small I didn't even see it at first
50fps on-board footage? Did they broadcast in 50fps back then or how did you get that?
great ! thank you
Button using a button.
DRS should be maximum 15mm but available everywhere
Drs the start of the end for f1
I need the first ever DRS pass, where the driver close ahead of the overtaken driver
They used to show the battery percentage, why today they don't show it anymore?
Button using a button to overtake.
We need Martin and DC back together!
I was new to F1 at the time and thought Brundle was a regular main commentator, was pleasantly surprised to find he was new to the job, he was brilliant in his one year in the role! Shame he'll probably never return to it
I'm not usually a Coulthard fan but he did have really good chemistry next to Martin
A Button overtaking, using a Button.
The Button's button
A very sad day for Formula 1
so last time there is no DRS zone? just simply open anywhere?
End of an era :(
If Formula 1® Already Make The "Grill The Grid" Since They Are Join RUclips, This Is Could Be One Of The Question.
04/11/2023 06:10 At My Local Time.
I don't like DRS, I prefer to see a battle of 20 laps with defenses and emotion than one straight battle. Fernando Alonso and Checo Perez remembered me the 2005 times
This is the end of the racers for me
I think one problem with DRS is the DRS trains, so they should do something about it...
Button be buttoning
push to pass > DRS, really hope F1 makes a change in the coming years, DRS is so over powerful now that we have DRS chicken
Wasn't Jenson
the first overtake using drs was from Alonso
Love how the signal is Russian while the commentators are British. Also did not know Russian state tv had broascasted F1.
It has broadcast F1 before, but not with British commentators. The audio track was overlaid by users for posting on the Internet.
it probably felt weird af for Button
Button use the Button
It barely opened 💀
The first DRS Overtake was Alonso overtaking Rosberg
No way Jenson Button made an overtake by using the overtake button 😅
Did anyone made a sentence with button and Button yet?
classic alonso
And of course it’s the legendary Jenson Button. Who else 😍
the beginning of F1's downfall into a junior reality show series. the moment since overtaking and defending skills are no longer required
Plenty of skill still required mate, like to see you hop in the there with them and give it a shot if skill isn't needed ???
It was Alonso on Rosberg...
I think Alonso on Rosberg was the first?
That was perfect tho it got him alongside into the breaking zone just as it was intended to
nowadays he wouldve passed him before the finish line
The day real race craft was trashed. Btw they should bring back smaller DRS, today’s one is too big
year?
First drs overtake was Alonso on Rosberg
This is the first one happening on live television as I said in the description
@@KingFishF1could you put that also in the title?? Not only un the description

The beginning of the end of the sport
People who hate on DRS should watch this video and notice how even with drs, a slipstream, and kers, he only just git past kobayashi. The years up to drs introduction, overtaking on a dry track was a nightmare
I remember these cars looked like shit after the previous era, but seeing them now and with the engines that they had, it's so nostalgic and cool to see and hear them, compared to today's cars.. F1 got soft in all ways.
Gilles villeneuve probably laughing at these ‘racers’ from above….
Or be fascinated by the incredibly talented roster we have these years. Hamilton, Leclerc, Verstappen, Norris, Alonso, the top grid is stacked with amazing racers who deserve lighter, better F1s.
@ They push a button and they overtake… I repeat : They can push a button to overtake !!
@@dopy8418 Not that easy, they still have to fight their way into the 1s window (which is way harder than in the past because of all the dirty air), and they still have to complete a pass under braking most of the time.
Also the GP itself is a way more complex affair.
have you seen Hamilton during his karting years ? Already a killer, you can see some of his moves he's still doing today in F1.
Who? They’re not even a champion you fraud 😂😂😂😂and they got schooled by scheckter 😂😂😂
They look like little toy cars compared to the big bastards of today
That's the most pathetic DRS I've ever seen 😂
DRS is just a PlayStation cheat button. Get it out the sport.
Is it childish version of wrc racing or smth?.. 😅

The start of a truly awful time
What a sad moment in F1, the gimmicks have been brought into the rule book.
Lol guessing you didn't watch those seasons leading up to drs introduction. With drs, a slipstream, and kers deployment he still barely got past before the end of the straight. People were begging for drs, especially wince kers made it almost impossible to overtake when used correctly for defence
@@dannywhite132doesn’t make it right especially when overtaking increased thanks to refueling being banned the previous year.
Sad lol
The biggest mistake in f1
the moment when F1 turned into boring trash.
everyone is like: why should i defend and close the door, i can just get overtaken, follow the dude and overtake him in the next drs zone.
it killed defense. Trash racing
OMG That must be the ugliest rear wing ever ,and that DRS slot is so tiny and weird looking
drs under a yellow can you imagine
crazy how people forget how little drs did back then
I think the first overtake was actually alonso
the beginning of the end
Year?
2011, first season with the DRS.
That question answers itself doesn't it? DRS was introduced in 2011. And you see that the cars are 2011 iterations.
