I hear from East Coast customs that a 4.2t second stage manufacturer aus wide is almost signed off and is already signed off for the chopped Y62. It doesn't require expensive rear billets either and uses a coil lift instead of the ontrack lift. Could be a game changer for the community
Thanks for the video, very informative and sorted out a few questions for me. Looking at upgrading my Pajero Sport to a Nissan Y62 purely for the extra GVM and Axle loads to carry my 2.5t van. When I eventually purchase one, I'm coming to you guys to add the mods I need.
One little point I picked up on regarding the maximum 50mm of lift. If you put tyres on that are 50mm bigger than stock....so going from 32.6" to 34.6"...... that only raises the car by 25mm because of radius v diameter. So, wouldn't it be possible to put-on tyres that are 50mm larger and then do a 25mm lift as well? By the way, Stuart Crosser is a great bloke....he is the bloke I went to back in 2015 to get the Silverado's GVM raised from 4.49 tonne to 5.17 tonne. (IE 627kg increase) GCM stayed the same at 11.1 tonne.
Great video Dave, but only boo boo was the 2” in relation to overall lift. With 32.6” standard you going to 34.6” (tyre increase tolerance) you actually still have another 25mm (actual 24.2mm) roughly allowable lift to be within the 50mm lift. The towing rating sticker on S1-4 we should all throw in the in because as the Engineer stated as long as you are within the physical real weights you are legal. So the stupid de-rating Nissan do is irrelevant.
I have been saying that for ages , people still don't get it the sticker states GUIDE ONLY so you can be 3.5T including TBW with a S4 or earlier 62 and you are good to go but you must not exceed the rear axle max of 2030Kg
Awesome 👏 post David! Clarified a lot of confusion about this subject! My last question 🙋♂️ though is, why do we have these different rules implemented by different States, and not just Federally Governed with one set of rules 😂 makes one wonder 🧐
Great Vid mate, really disappointing that we can’t get another 500kg GCM some how out of the Nissan, it would be a game changer for the large van towing. 👍
Looks like you’re screwed Dave even before you start towing your van 🤣. Your height would be over 50mm with springs and 35’s and your GCM would be over 7T with all accessories bolted to your car whilst towing your caravan😬. This is way too common for the modified patrol scene towing a van north of 3T + 😔.
@@DASHOffRoad As much as I would’ve love to kit up my Patrol, I’m worried of being overweight when towing our van. So I’ll be keeping close to standard as much as possible. Pity because I really love your bar! 😊
Have you started recording on an only 720p camera, you also need to get some acoustic treatment in that show room if your gonna start recording in there.
Very good video David, a topic that is widely discussed all the time sitting around a fire having a couple of beers… you have cleared up a few points. Are you planning to do more of these with subject matter experts on different topics.
Maybe one on towing set up, seems to be a topic all the time on the y62 face book page. Could get someone from Tow Ed to discuss weights car set up, hitches etc. anyway, it was a good segment that you did mate. 👍
That doesn't make sense. How can you get to a 7t GCM with a 3.5t GVM + 3.5t ATM? 350kg ball weight needs to be included in the GVM so the car can only weigh 3150kg. 3150kg car + 350kg ball + 3150kg (after subtracting the ball) van = 6650kg GCM max???
My understanding from the engineers explanation was the ball weight is not subtracted from the ATM. It is added to the GVM but remains part of the mass being towed.
7 ton GCM would be 3.5t van and 3.5t car but the 3.5t car includes the ball weight 350kg so you can't get to 7t with the car already at 3.5t on its own.
The GCM is 7t and a 3.5t van with 350kg ball weight plus vehicle weighing 3150kg on it's own hits that limit so yes you can get to the full 7t GCM with a 3.5t van. Agreed it's not 7t total rolling weight which I guess was your point. Understandable that people assume they are the same thing but the example illustrates they are not, unless you have zero ball weight.
So essentially if you want to tow 3.5t you need the car to weigh 3150kg otherwise your over weight because the 350kg adds to the cars weight to bring it up to 3500kg.
Excellent Video. Keen to hear more about front and rear axle loads. Whats does 250kg on the tow bar add to the rear axle? My Guess is 350kg. Does the front axle load decrease with 250kg on the tow bar?
If using your maths, 250kg tow ball weight, 350kg (only your estimate) then the difference is removed from front axle so 100kg. Which is why your steering is lighter.
Well explained, just have one question, If I live in and buy a Vehicle in Vic with all the legal GVM upgrades done in Vic and I then move to SA or another state will this affect me transferring my Rego.
Dave please state front axle limit stock limit vs after upgrade then rear axle limit and new upgrade limit. this is for 4085kg upgrade.. I haven't been told the new weight limits after the 4085kg gvm upgrade. Thanks Ben.
Hi Dave great video. A question that wasn't covered....if the GVM upgrade was certified in say VIC and then i move to WA and change to WA rego, must the vehicle be re-engineered to certify with the WA regulations?
Great info David. So does anyone know who in SE Queensland can do the certification for 4.085 GVM? Or do we have to come to SA to get a Qld certification from you guys?
Sorry for the dumb question but am I better to get my new y62 GVM upgrade done pre rego or it doesn’t matter?? Also will the dealer organise this because I obviously can’t drive it unregistered
Thank goodness I live in a country that doesn't care about weight so stringently. Dear lordy , lift limitations , dash my heart breaks for you . 😆 . That's wild . What about if it's air bagged suspension, and lowered to legal before engineer looks it over.
Yes that’s correct, if you sell your car to an interstate buyer then when they take it over the pits to register it then it will be subject to that states transport regulations. So what may be com-leant here may not be in that state and they will have to correct it.
Great vid Dave - answered a lot of questions that get asked a lot - well done 🤙

Yes I should do 👌
Bloody good video thank you!!!!!
Interesting insight for all 4WDs. Many good points made. Thanks for sharing…Steve 🇦🇺
Great Vid mate, a very misunderstood subject for most !! Any updates on the rear bar for the S5 ? Was looking good on your last trip mate.
There has been more work sorted out this week, still more to go though 👌
@@DASHOffRoad Thanks for the update mate, I shall reserve that space for when it is released :)

this is for 4085kg upgrade..

It goes up to 1750kg on the front and what’s left is rear axel 😜

Why don’t gvm upgrades not include some sort of brake upgrade as well? They don’t seem too. Adding weight affects braking performance after all?
The brakes that come standard suffice 🦾🦾🦾
So....what approach should I take when I have a GQ that was uprated already when I bought it but I am unable to find GVM compliance plates?

If you watch the vid again you’ll see this is discussed. No such thing as a pre reg GVM upgrade at this point in time for a Y62
DASH OffRoad ok thanks
Lovells kits upgrade the GCM (Victoria), how does that work?
Not for a Y62

Pfft that's nothing. You should see my mates stroked 200, it's got a tune and other stuff, it's probably got a gvm of 5t
If you sell a modified car interstate it will need to be re engineered. And may not pass.
Good point
Also my question. My guess is it would need to comply in the state the buyer lives, since he will need to register it there.
Yes that’s correct, if you sell your car to an interstate buyer then when they take it over the pits to register it then it will be subject to that states transport regulations. So what may be com-leant here may not be in that state and they will have to correct it.
