- So catchy is this Classical melody it reached No. 1 in the UK pop charts in 1955 as "Stranger in Paradise" (Tony Bennett). This is my piano arrangement of the original "Gliding Dance of the Maidens", part of the Polovtsian Dances from the end of act 2 of Borodin's opera Prince Igor.

Strangers in Paradise.. It's a wonderful time to be in this place, playing and listening. Thank you very much
Outstanding arrangement. Beautifully played.
Thank you so much!
It’s only missing one thing🤔….a live audience. Magnificent!
Thank you, Deanna! Hopefully someday that will change!
Wonderful arrangement, beautiful performance, and exquisite location as usual. Bravo!
Thank you so much, Charles! Love your work!
I'm a stranger in paradise, all lost in wonderland... of Luke's music ✨Soo beautiful! 🥰Thank you Luke, hope all is well with you!
Aww - thank you, dear Astari! All good here, thanks. Currently working on some new music! Hope you are having a lovely 2024 so far!
The most magical thing I've ever heard ✨
Thank you, Farah!
Oh, my . . . this is one of my favorite pieces, the kind for which I will pause whatever I'm doing to listen. You've breathed new life into it, and I may not achieve anything today for listening to it repeatedly! Thank you. 😊
Aww - that's so kind! Haha, I wish you a most productive and enjoyable day, Heather!
You are so amazing! Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent.
That's incredibly kind of you to say, Brenda - thank you!
Lovely setting . And beautidully played .
Thank you, SP!
Wonderful arrangement from Borodin's opera Prince Igor.
Congratulations Luke ! 🌻
I hope to see you soon with a recital at Wigmore Hall in London. Last year I wrote information about you in the chat by Wigmore Hall - RUclips channel and I don't understand why such a great pianist and composer like you is not invited to Wigmore Hall.
Aw - wow! That's so kind! Thank you. I live quietly in remote countryside and, whilst I share things online, I don't really get out much 😅Would love to give concerts like that someday, though.
Wonderful Sharing my friend 😊
Aww - thank you so much 🥰
Just Beautiful! What a perfect setting for this piece, Luke. Where was it filmed? There is a very special place in my heart for this music. The first time I heard it was as a kid. I had been given a music box featuring this piece and I would have it opened and listen to it every opportunity I had. So when I heard the single you released sometime ago, I was totally enchanted, just as I am now with this video. Thank you as always, Ros ☺ PS Just now I came across this piece in a Hollywood musical called Kismet.
Thank you, Ros - it's Drapers' Hall in London.
Hermoso!!! Qué forna tan sutil y abrazadora de tocar el piano
Gracias!
Wow
Great arrangement and playing! Without the video I wouldn't believe that there isn't another piano, or that you don't have a third hand
Haha - thank you for saying so! I rather enjoy splitting melodies between two hands.
Always a delight to experience your pieces Luke.
Thanks so much, Michael! Hope you're well, buddy.
@@LukeFaulkner Absolutely 😊
When will you be coming to the US?
Красиво. И как хорошо на душе, когда так красиво!
Спасибо! 🥰
No mists! And yet, feeling transported..💫
Where is this magnificent location? Beautiful playing!!!!❤❤❤
Look in the video description.
Fabulous Luke 🎹 ❤ thank you for sharing your talent.
Thank you, dear Rosita!
Lovely playing.... !! ....and what a fab location!!.... great stuff!!
Thanks, Geoff!
Hey Luke ! Comment vas tu ?
This is a very nice piece, and of course you play it beautifully, however I find myself wondering the same thing I've wondered before with many artists: why is *this* their most famous piece instead of something that is richer/deeper/more complex/has more of what makes them unique? Perhaps the answer is contained in the question. Short, "catchy" tunes will always be mire widely known than longer, more complex things. This is simple, catchy, easy to like. I also think the Nocturne from the 2nd string quartet is memorable and easy to like, but it does have more complexity to it. They both have what must be one of Borodin"s favorite rhythms, though, and I love it!
It's an interesting question, Abigail! I'd suggest that a catchy melody more readily becomes the enduring totem of a composition than pretty much anything else. As an example, when I say Wagner's Walküre I'd wager the first thing that comes to most people's minds would be the famous "Ride of the Valkyries" motif despite the whole music drama being a sophisticated 5h complex of leitmotifs and narrative development, underpinned by ideas of 19th-century philosophy. Nonetheless, Borodin's quartets (esp. the movement you mention) are amongst the most played in the repertoire - probably because they have some catchy melodies too 😅
@@LukeFaulkner That's true...the Borodin quartets are still very popular. If I practiced what I preached, I'd do more of a deep dive into his works, haha. Thanks for the insightful reply!
Gorgeous! Beautiful execution, as always 👏❤
Thank you so much, Rebeca!
Really interesting 'fun fact' 😮 I can see this one appearing on my "constantly replayed songs" list 😂
Hahaha - thank you, dear, Abi!
@@LukeFaulkner 😁😁😁
So much beauty. The music, the piano, the venue. Thanks Luke.
Thanks so much again, Mark!
Splendid.
Thank you!
Magnifique ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Merci bien! 🥰
