Todd Phillips to turn around and supposedly cater to those elitist types who hated the first movie because of its portrayal of a “downtrodden white male” and reported on it in the most bad faith manner to try and incite some violent event is downright disheartening.
I remember leaving the cinema after watching Joker and thinking “I wish that had been a musical with Lady Gaga”! No, of course I didn’t.

I think the studios forced her character in there. especially after the controversy the 1st film caused. (which was stupid, reporters were makin a big deal out of NOTHIN. now they gloating at us wit this trash sequel).

She was great in TAS. Everything since has been co-opted by political extremists who took a fun, sexy sidekick with a little dash of tragedy, and turned her into an overused obnoxious cudgel to bash normal people over the head with progressive bollocks.
I spoke to a friend who had a chance to see the movie and shit on it for 10 minutes straight. My guy was furious.
I’ve driven my co-worker absolutely nuts the past 2 days randomly rambling about how disappointed I was. I don’t understand how they so carefully built this character into who he is but then focus an entire film about dissolving all of it.

2) strip the MC of all previous character growth
3) make the MC a supporting character in his own film
4) Write a narrative that intentionally mocks fans of the previous film
5) flip the narrative intent a full 180 from the previous film
6) kill the MC in the end because you have no clue where else to take the story and you’re too uncreative to come up with something better

But that message/warning is totally unnecessary. It is even a waste of a message/warning... Nobody in the audience wanted to be Arthur Fleck or in the same situation as him. The (positive parts of the) audience had the mindset of "pity the loser." The moviemakers might as well as warned people not to jump off skyscrapers or warned people not to deliberately cut their own limbs off. (Worthless.)
How many shootings in the cinemas were there again when (the first) Joker was airing? (despite the multiple medias claiming that shootings were going to happen every week.) No emulations that I know of...

Hangover 2/3 were both below average to bad so he had a track record of unsuccessful sequels. Also, watch how the commercials changed from the first trailer, showing less of the musical stuff and more scenes of Arthur speaking. They knew it was a bomb, likely from test screenings but too late to make wholesale changes.
The background music is a nice addition to your video presentation but can you turn the music down a bit on your next videos? The music is a bit distracting

Opening to $140 Million Worldwide in October is actually pretty good......Movies that open in the Fall usually have smaller openings and longer legs....The original Joker opened to $248 Million Worldwide and ended up making over a Billion.
This movie will be lucky to see 1/2 of revenue the Joker even with tickets 30 percent more expensive than the first.

I'm pretty sure this is the opposite of "studio interference": A director makes a good movie with a lot of people helping him, the movie becomes a smash hit, and for the sequel the director ignores all the good advice he gets, because the first one was "his success", and he thinks he knows better.
I wonder if Todd Phillips deliberately sabotaged it. I wouldn't put it past him. I don't think he wanted to make a sequel at all, but Joker was too successful for its own good. Phillips was basically strong-armed into making a follow up but if it's trash, he doesn't have to be tied down by it anymore.
I'll be honest, I never liked Joker. It left me feeling uncomfortable, miserable & not particularly entertained. Nothing from this film makes me think "I want to watch it"!

Back in the day, sequels used to be guaranteed about 40% of the box office of the first movie. Producers knowing this often made the next film on a cheaper budget to guarantee a profit. Now with box office being all over the place, with sequels often making more money than their predecessor, its encouraging them to spaff money up the wall

I went with my younger sister to see the original, we got 3 of the free posters lol (an extra one for my other sister who didn't go). My sister asked if I was gonna go to see the sequel with her and I said but its a musical? She couldn't believe it. Short story we won't be going to see this one. Not even for 4 posters 😂

Everything was against the movie from the jump. I can't say much cuz I'm just a nobody but i really enjoyed the world Matt built around this character so i will still support this movie. I'm not expecting it to blow me away. I simply enjoy the acting and the story that he gave.
