Yoga is 100% spiritual and religious. Its background, its foundations, its meaning - all of it are very clear. I stretch every single day but have no desire to do a yoga class ever again.

I’d like to offer another perspective. So many Christians are afraid of yoga. God is all powerful, He can use anything to hunt you down and capture your heart. I have a deeply religious and legalistic Aunt who wouldn’t speak to me because I taught Yoga. It made me hate Christianity. Ironically though, I found Jesus because of yoga, I just had no idea that it was Him who was speaking to me and working on my heart. I taught Yoga for years and I was deep within the occult and He found me on the yoga mat and changed my life. I was so disconnected from myself that getting quiet allowed me to hear His voice and connect to the Holy Spirit. After learning about Jesus and reading the Bible, It did make me realize that New Age and Hinduism is still very much a part of the Yoga culture but you can approach the practice of Yoga movement without that. There are still teachers who teach about manifestation and all of that in class which isn’t biblical. But culture doesn’t control me. Just because someone else believes something doesn’t mean I believe it too. I still love stretching and moving my body. Jesus has already won, I think the fear gives so much more power to the evil one. The war has already been won. Jesus has the victory.

be careful with being zealous, all the time israel went to war God always instructed them to destroy every altar, never did they redeem evil altar for God's purpose, Daniel could have redeemed the Babylonian delicacies but he didn't

The church in India since AD 52 has never practised nor supported yoga, I would say it is not just stretching, it is more than that. Sorry pastor Mark! I love your messages, a regular viewer.

I am surprised as to the number of responses of people who think yoga is a danger to Christians. First, yoga is not a temptation. It is very hard and very uncomfortable, so it would not be a stumbling block to a weaker christian as some have said. Second, no stretching or Yogi, or Budda or Allah or anyone can remove from me the salvation that Jesus paid for me.

I disagree. Yoga is a spiritual practice. It is part of a religion.

The issue at hand though is that yoga is inherently a spiritual practice hijacked by western culture to be simply “stretching.” We battle against the principalities of the world. What may seem innocent isn’t entirely innocent. I would rather not test out the waves when I can stay on the ship. Every action you take matters to the Lord, we’re called to be sanctified and holy in all practices. Of course it won’t be perfect at first, but as long as we work towards sanctification, your rewards in heaven will be great.

You will change your view on this when you start driving demons out of people and discover how they entered people. Every position is worship to a hindu god

Being a south Asian Christian, seeing the state of western Christians actually saddens me. This is our culture yet we still don’t partake in it because we KNOW that it does not align with the Word of God, you can argue all you want but it won’t change. If anything it’s disrespectful to NOT call it a religious Hindu practice, that’s cultural appropriation.

A thoughtful and intelligent reply, Pastor Mark! So the inner heart and intent with which one does the outer practice is the key, it seems. And thanks for pointing out that meditation, far from being an exclusively eastern practice, has a long and hallowed history within Christianity itself. And the footage that you showed of that Hindu priest in the beginning was nice and refreshing - and the fact that you didn't cut it down or trash it out of hand was also thoughtful and considerate.

Well said Mark Thank you so much for this ... As a Christian we have to choose and examine carefully and draw the line whenever it is outside the plan of God!

All of these comments are they going to lead to say mediation is a certain religion and evil? How do we know when stretching or breath work goes against our spirituality? I always focus on God and praise Him for my body and health when exercising/stretching. I was amazed at how much it helped my mental health, joy, peace and gave me a better mind, body, spirit connection. I also liked how pastor acknowledged the body being the temple of God. So many are drinking and eating sugar which affects the brain just as cocaine does and polluting their bodies and minds. The more I care for my body the more clear my mind is to connect with my Father in Heaven. That's been my own experience.

A part two video on the difference between appropriating things from other spiritual practices and redeeming things? Please expand on what it means to redeem something from another religion. When is there a danger of syncretism and what does a good use of using something from another belief system to help the person understand the gospel look like?
