I've said it before and I'll say it again. Silver Surfer is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, and ONE hit takes him out? Fucking bullshit.

"I CAN'T TOUCH THAT RED POT?!" is still one of my all-time favorite Nerd moments. The way it comes right after "ANOTHER MOTHER FUCKING PUMPKIN" gets me every time.
All these years later this is still my favorite episode. To me this is the best example of the nerd consistently rising in anger throughout almost like a perfect curve, starting from not caring much about it to hating it do to the ridiculous difficulty.
10:25 "Isn't he supposed to be pretty strong?" If by that you mean a low tier cosmic level entity and Herald of Galactus then yes he's "pretty" powerful. Realistically everything he's fighting in this game shouldn't pose even the minorest of minor threats.
"Another mother-_fucking_ pumpkin." is without a doubt my favorite AVGN line. I always makes me smile. Heck, this entire episode has a lot of his best lines.
The man who beat Ghosts n' Goblins TWICE without save states can't beat a single level of this game. Wow. That really says something about the difficulty.
That or Ghosts n' Goblins was fun enough to compel you to beat it twice in spite of its huge difficulty, while Silver Surfer isn't fun enough to compel you to beat even a single stage.
9:11 No matter how many times I watch, it catches me off guard every time. Its also funny because the Silver Surfer is supposed to be something of a demigod in the Marvel Universe. Healing powers, near invulnerability, the Power Cosmic, ultra-fast flight, etc. so he is definitely supposed to be powerful.
One thing I did notice is that your projectiles will tell you what's an obstacle. If the projectiles don't go through something, neither can Silver Surfer. You have to keep firing constantly even with no enemies because your projectiles will tell you if you're heading for certain death. Especially on the overhead levels. So invest in a turbo controller if you're playing this game. Really they should have made it so you could just hold down the button. "What were they thinking?"
This game doesn't have bad controls. The only thing that allegedly makes it bad is how unforgiving it is, which, in my opinion, doesn't make it lousy at all. It does provide for an intense gaming session(and no, I rented it several times back in the day, but could never beat it).
Dr.Beef When you have to continually tap the button every single second (both to kill enemies and to see what can block you and what can't) is either bad control or bad level design. Either they should have indicators what you can and can't cross, or just allow you to hold the button down. Having to press the button rapid fire through the whole game just leads to sore thumbs. That's not a good time playing a game.
Silver Surfer is actually one of the most powerful and indestructible characters in the Marvel universe. For him to be killed simply by bumping into dull, inanimate objects is one of the most insulting things I've ever seen in a video game.

Silver Surfers powers are as follows: The Silver Surfer wields the Power Cosmic, granting him superhuman strength, endurance, senses and the ability to absorb and manipulate the universe's ambient energy. The Surfer can navigate through interstellar space and hyperspace, which he can enter to exceed the speed of light when flying on his board. He has proven capable of time travel on several occasions, even able to make others time-travel with him. The Surfer sustains himself by converting matter into energy; does not require food, water, air, or sleep (although he occasionally enters a sleep-like meditation in order to dream); and can survive within nearly any known natural environment, including deep space, hyperspace, and even within black holes and stars. The Surfer can project energy in various forms for offensive and defensive use, including bolts of cosmic force powerful enough to destroy entire planets, and create black holes. He can utilize the Power Cosmic to augment his superhuman strength to indeterminate levels. The Surfer can heal living organisms, though he cannot raise the dead, and he has proven capable of revitalizing and evolving organic life on a planet-wide scale. He can cast illusions, create interdimensional portals to other locations including microverses, phase through solid matter, and exercise some level of control over the Astral Plane. His senses enable him to detect objects and concentrations of energy light years away and to perceive matter and energy in subatomic detail, including life energies of living beings. The Surfer can even see through time, and with concentration he can achieve limited perception of past and future events in his general vicinity. He has demonstrated telepathic ability, including mind-reading on occasion, and has proven to be able to influence human emotion and sensation. The Surfer's board is composed of a nearly impervious, cosmically powered silvery material that is similar to his own skin. The board is mentally linked to the Surfer and moves in response to his mental commands even when he is not in physical contact with it. The board is nearly indestructible, but on those rare occasions when it has been damaged or destroyed, the Surfer has proven able to repair it, or even recreate it, with little effort. The Surfer can attack opponents remotely by directing the board against them, and the board is capable of absorbing and imprisoning other beings, at least temporarily. TLDR: Silver surfer is practically a god, yet this game has him fighting rubber duckies as equals...

This is actually my all time favorite game for the NES. Awesome music and it's hard but fair. It gets very tense because the power ups are extremely important to progress, so if you die at a bad spot you're screwed.

One of all time best episodes of AVGN. Humour and analysis of the bad elements are perfect. Remember watching it back when it came out and started to love the AVGN Series.
"This game just pukes snot up my ass."
I always think James could have at least mentioned how this game has the best soundtrack out of literally every NES game ever
Contra?
Blaster Master and Castlevania 2 in my opinion have the best soundtracks
Michael Cheslav I forgot to put "one of the" in my comment pls ignore that
I think that title goes to something more deserving, like Mario, or Sanic, or mega man, or one of the many angry video game nerd games on the nes. also, I make my own games so #YOLO
Kieran Miday Yes, we know. We all played Sanic on the NES.
Addicted to AVGN videos at this point already after becoming a recent fan several months ago. I kept hearing the Theme Song on repeat in my head the other day after watching AVGN videos.
I've watched this episode more than a dozen times, and I can NEVER see that camoflaged bullet coming through the trees until the close up. How anybody is meant to be able to beat this game is beyond me.
The bullets from the purple guns in that stage also travel faster than the ones from big turrets, so it fucks with your anticipation.
This is what comes up when you search for "Best AVGN episode"
Holy cow, he's right! : O
Oh god, it's true!
This is the best AVGN episode, bar none. His rage is so genuine and it's got some of the greatest quotes. "It would be easier to go outside during a thunderstorm and try and dodge rain" lmfao
Something about these classic AVGN episodes just hits me right in my nostalgia & feels 😳
I CAN'T TOUCH THAT RED POT?!?!?
Jr. All Star that always gets me
That line is AWESOME!!!
I think he was genuinely angry there
that one jack-o-lantern that gets impaled and then its expression changes to sad is adorable.
Back then we had Silver Surfer... Now we have Flappy Bird!
This comment is somehow more dated than the review of a NES game.
Totally Erect And Star Fox Zero.
Now we have cup head
Now we have fidget spinners
Now we have Fortnite if that counts
This whole game was lowkey just the developers mocking Silver Surfer. LOL
The hilarity is that when playing the game, "Stick It To The Man". They actually mention Silver Surfer on the NES in the game. lol
This is actually my all time favorite game for the NES. Awesome music and it's hard but fair. It gets very tense because the power ups are extremely important to progress, so if you die at a bad spot you're screwed.
You fucking pumpkin piece of shit!
-James Rolfe 2008
the original is 2007
+TheWingedBear It'd be easier to pick fly shit outta pepper... WHILE WEARING BOXING GLOVES!
+TheWingedBear Pumpking? This isn't Terraria...
Wait... terraria?
or Yu-gi-oh.
"Hours of fun and action in one game and a little challenging" - IGN 9/10
Made you think why the Fantastic 4 was having a hard time with the Silver Surfer when he is this weak.
They didn't have walls
LOL I saw Silver Silver fly through buildings and block missiles and shit. In the game he is killed by touching a cooking pot and by fish.
This is the Silver Surfer of the Fant4stic universe, except he was placed in the 616 universe by accident.
I CANT TOUCH THAT RED POT?!?!?! XD
9:58 Look at his hand...
One of the greatest AVGN chapter s of all
His frustration sounds so real and natural 🤣
"This game isn't bad. It's FUCKING HORRIBLE! And I DARE you to play it."
i beat it
Banana Mustard sure kid
"I CAN'T TOUCH THAT RED POT?!"
My favorite Superhero :D
NecrosVideos woah didn’t expect to see u here
You like him??? He's the weakest hero I have seen.
6:50 !!! " I CAN'T TOUCH THAT RED POT !!!! " LMFAO :)
steveN111333 that line is AWESOME
Possessor looks like Bret Hart
Speaking of Bret Hart, AVGN should review wrestling games mainly WWE from NES to PS1/N64
Doesnt Emporer look like Thanos?
Lmao so true
Galactus “I bestow upon you… the power galactic!”
Norrin “What does it do?”
Galactus“It makes you practically invincible and more powerful than any other being”
Norrin“Practically?”
Galactus“Well… you just can’t touch walls anymore”
6:18 Oh the days when AVGN drank Yuengling instead of Rolling Rock.
I'm a fifth grade teacher by now and I recently had some Video Game History lessons. I took this shit to school, had the entire class play this mess and went like "Here you go! Enjoy my childhood you little shitheads". That session was priceless.
Almost a decade and a half later and still one of my all time favorites 😄
This is one of the best Nerd episodes ever. I love it when he plays difficult games.
