Never use a Fram filter. Its the worst one made and very poor quality.
Thanks man your videos are VERY helpful. I just got my 2003 Honda VTX 1300 and your videos saved me a lot of money from getting robbed by mechanics
Happy to help, Any questions just ask. Thank you for your Sub Mike. VTX 1300 is a great bike. Ride safe and have a great day.
Next time you need major work done be sure and do it yourself and not use those mechanics that rob you because they can't work for free.
@@jhargrove1108don't be butt hurt. Fluid changes aren't major jobs and should be done by the owner.
You are so dense. Been chaging my own oil for 55 years. Raced NHRA for 15. What a genius you are.
Thanks. Like that you show/explain the products and tools you use. Soon getting a vtx 1300 myself. Keep up the good work!
Just bought a 1300 import in the UK thanks for the video and that totally chilled accent

your videos are very informative and you communicate the information clearly... I've had my 2004 VTX 1300 1 year and am about to do my first oil change and tune up... thank you for these great videos.

Thank you for taking time to make this video and show every aspect of it, you made it super easy to find everything I needed. I saved it for future reference, I'm going to try this myself
Happy to help..Ride Safe and have a great day..
first time iv'e heard of the front drain plug! i have 55k miles on my 07 VTX 1300....great bike and thanks for the tip about the other plug.
Happy to help. Any questions just ask. Thank you for your Sub Chris. Ride Safe and have a great day.
Dealer overtightened mine. Had to stab it with a screwdriver to get it off. Never go back there again. I'll try one of those adapters you got there. Thanx!
They do it so you can't service your bike...i see it a lot...Real pain in the but..
First oil change i did on my 1300 I had to ride a couple miles to the local oil change place and have them loosen the filter slightly. So now I make sure I can loosen the filter before I take out the drain plugs. I finally got one of the filter wrenches that looks like a big wide set of adjustable pliers and it works best for me. Also my regular oil drain pan is too tall to slide under my bike so I use an old cat litter box that is wide and shallow.
I Find putting a 2 x 6 under the kickstand gives you a little more room. Remember there's two drain plugs. Big mistake many people make. only removing one. Thank you for watching Tim. Those filters can be hard to remove. I think the dealer tighten those filters way too much so a normal person cannot loosen it unless you have the proper tools. KN filters have a nut on the end 17 mm makes it easier. By safe and have a great day.
Thanks. Not a hard job but watching helps me remember little things.
Happy to help. Thank you for watching and your sub. Tim. Ride safe, Any questions just ask. And have a great day.

They don't even get that much for a car. You are FOS.
I've had mine since early '06 ... NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER ... love it.

I live in Iowa. I have a 1300 vtx-c. Nice bike, came out of Florida. My brother bought it new. It takes a long time to warm up. Full choke for about 20-30 miles. Carb has been gone through, been re-jetted 3 times. Once she warms up she runs like a champ. Dealerships haven't helped me out. Any wisdom out there? Forums tell me to work on the carb. No shit sherlock. Done that song and dance.
@@kennyswigart6167 best if you can not to use the choke it all. It just pumps more fuel in and fouls the spark plugs up causing it to backfire, pop and run like crap. If you just work the throttle for about 30 seconds to a minute it should hold it's idle fine but your right it will take about 5-10mins to fully warm up to where it doesnt stall on you at the lights haha Great bikes and great video Rocko!
@@kennyswigart6167 sounds like using the choke is your problem mate, mine did the same when i got it and i was about to re-jet the carb before i pulled the plugs, saw them and researched the problem. Was an easy fix, no more choke. Good luck and hope it helps!
Thanks, Rocco, the best info I've come across since I started looking in April last year. I now have my VTX 1300 2005, happy days. 👍

Great vid, I am just missing two pieces of info from it: what is a quarts when it comes down to amount of oil? For all the metric guys, the VTX 1300 needs 3,7 liters complete when oil change and a new filter, but then again, check the stick. Number two is the location of the second draining plug, there’s a skip in the vid at that moment in the vid... Oh well, I’ll just look it up in my manual. But than again, good video, and good quality, thanks
Thank you for your support. Ride Safe and have a great day.
Thanks for the videos Rocco. I just bought an '05 VTX 1300

20W50 is too thick for that engine. They call for 10W40 if I remember correctly.
This VTX has high miles... very noisy motor....I live in hot Florida....So this bike seams to like 20/50 synthetic. You are right
Might be valve noise? Adjustment maybe
She runs great...Almost 60,000 miles...Owned her for eight years..no problems..No need to fix something that is not broke. Thank you and have a great day.
Yes two oil plugs a must to remove..You have low miles go with 10/40 Hope this helps i used 20/50 my motor was noisy....Thick oil helps old high mile motors.Good luck with your new ride..VTX 1300 are great bikes.

I like your videos and the fact that AC/DC is on in the background! I bought my 2005 VTX from my brother last year, with only 4500 miles on it. He had replaced the exhaust with after market. I have the original pipes and want to put them back on because I am not into the noise. Have you done any vids on that? And if I have to jet the carb, do you have a vid o that? You do a great job of cutting the BS out when explaining and that's the only way I learn. Thanks much!

I just picked up an 07 retro basically to make sure and know the 17 mm socket ( the bike did not have owners manual, of course ). Glad I watched, first bike I have owned that had 2 oil plugs. Don't get me started on the idiots at Valvoline Instant oil change, and other shops, that use oil filter wrenches to tighten the filter, on autos or maybe the idiot who owned the bike before that does not know - hand tighten the filter.
Happy to help. I run into that oil filter problem all the time. I think the deal is do it on purpose so you cannot service your own motorcycle. Thank you for watching and all your support chrippee. Ride safe and have a great day. Honda VTX 1300 are great motorcycles. Good luck with your new ride.
Great info. Fast and easy. BTW what is the floorboard-shift setup. Looks like what I have been searching for.
Standard on the VTX. R that's retro, you must have the C edition with is Custom that have foot pegs. Thank you for watching and you're sub Chris. Any questions just ask. Ride safe and have a great day.
Rocco many thanks for all your VTX videos, they’ve been a great help! Ran into a problem I haven’t seen. Been riding my 06 VTX 1300 2-4 times a week, running well, then randomly started having difficulty starting. Charged battery, changed plugs, still working really hard to start, then noticed fuel mixed with oil coming out of air box and oil with fuel in it bubbling out of oil dipstick reservoir. Drained all the oil and it definitely has a significant amount of fuel in it. Drained the gas tank also, that fuel looks normal. Any pointers on what might be the issue? Thanks as always for your help!
Happy to help you pick cock is fouling this is allowing fuel to drain into your intake through the vacuum line coming from you Petcock the diaphragm has failed I will send you a video on how to test it. Any questions just ask. While you're replacing the diaphragm you might as well buy a new petcock screen for in your tank since you will be there repairing the petcock. Good for people who are thinking of changing their oil themselves! Looks like not a big deal. Wondering if you put the bike on a stand to get better access to the oil plugs and filter? Cool.. Thanks Lorne

Honda recommends 10-40 MC oil. Why do you use 20-50? Is there some advantage to running 20-50 oil? Thanks for the informative video.
Miles and i live in Fl.And less motor noise. Hope this helps.
Depends on where you live. Some states are hotter than others. Thicker is better in warmer states. Yes Honda as well as most other manufacturers recommend 10w40, but 20w50 won't hurt it. My dad has used Castrol GTX 20W50 in his bikes for 30 years and never had a problem. I personally run Shell Rotella 15w40 in the white bottle. It's super robust, shifts are smooth, and it meets JASO MA/MA2 specs. So it's safe for wet clutches. Plus it's only 14 bucks a gallon at Walmart.
But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, as long as the oil you use IS NOT energy conserving, and IS at least a 40 weight on the high end you're golden. Use what makes you happy and get out on 2 wheels any chance you get !
Ride safe

Hi, recently I have been experiencing carburetor issues on my honda vtx 1300c 2004 and I was hoping to pick your brain on it. I was riding and needed to accelerate and engine sputtered almost died.
Then it got worst. When switch is in ON position, engine dies in about minute, when I twist the throttle it floods the engine and it dies.
However, when switch is turned to RESERVE position or STOP everything is ok, no sputtering, no dieing no acceleration issues. Any opinion is highly appreciated.

How often should i be changing my oil if I am using OEM honda oil? Its conventional 10w40. Is once a year safe for this little use or should i be changing twice?

You mentioned it but can't see it. Anyway thanks again

@@TwoWheelRocco Thanks I kinda figured that's why there is 2 plugs. I just checked the oil and its clean so they change it. Its right on the middle line. thanks again
A little something that I find really goes a long way, When you put the bike up for the winter. Hey Rocco, Repair manual tells you to use 10W40. Any reason you used 20-50 for this? Thanks

Always check oil with the bike in an upright position. Not resting on the kickstand. Very important.

You did it on the kick stand?
Happy to help, Theres two drain plugs on VTX.1300s. yes I did it's not that difficult if you noticed one of the oil plugs is on the left side so it's tilted that way.. Thank you for watching and your Sub bUd D Dove.. Ride Safe and Have a Great Day.
Like wix filter, synthetic not paper....paper can break up.
Thank you for your input. Ride Safe and have a great day CJ.
@@TwoWheelRocco TYVM Rocco, we used the safety lock cellulose filter for the drag bike.
Why use 20 w 50 instead of the 10 w 40 called for in the owners manual?
Happy to help. That's what the owner wanted to use. It was a high miles motor. Thank you for watching and all your support Ferguson.10/40 is the correct oil. Ride safe and have a great great day.
@TwoWheelRocco Thanks for the quick reply Rocco, I was assuming it may have had something to do with the temperature in the area your customer is riding as I've been told it's better to run 20 w 50 in hot weather. I have to do an oil change on a 2004 VTX 1300 c for a customer myself and your video saved me a whole lot of time. Keep up the good work 👍
@@fergusonkush8713 happy to hear your wrenching on motorcycles. Those two drain plugs are a little odd for the VTX 1300 but they are great bikes. Have a great day and ride safe.
is this the same motor on the Honda Fury?
Yes it is.
I believe the Fury has a much lighter frame than your bike. Am I correct?@@TwoWheelRocco
I brought a 2013 a few weeks ago and changed the rear drive oil today. It had 11200 miles on it. The oil looked like it had never been changed. Very black and sluggish.
Yes the Fury is lighter...2010, 663 pounds. 2006 VTX 678 to 748 there are 2 models Custom or Retro
Test ride a VTX 1800, They have what you are looking for, What do you think?
Why 20-50?
This bike had lot of miles and noisy motor. That what the owner wanted to use...It seem to help.
If the oil is hot then the filter will get off really easy
I agree, Thank you for your comment and your Sub Rizea. Ride Safe and have a great day.
Thanks man, great video, just bought a vtx1300s hehe
What do you use on you chrome to clean it?
Simple: Windex
Doesn’t Honda recommend 10w30?
Yes they do. I'm sorry about that. High mileage motor and that's what the owner wanted to use. But you are right. They do get 60 70,000 miles on these bikes. Thank you for watching and your support Scott. Ride safe and have a great day.
how many liters of oil does my motorcycle VTX 1300cc occupy?
Please watch video. There are two drain plugs. 3 qt. Check stick.
20w 50???? WOW too thick!!! Also you fired up the engine with just 2 quarts in the case??? Gutsy!!! Fram oil filter once upon a time may have been a good idea, but not anymore. K and H filters are amazing. But it's your bike!!!!
Just trying to help. That was a customers bike. I agree with you 2050s a little thick but it was high miles bike. That's what he wanted. He supplied the oil and the filter. I just did it. I'm a Harley Davidson guy. Thank you for watching and your comment David. ride safe and have a great day. Love my Road King..
Great video, except for using old dirty oil to lubricate the filter seal. Don’t do that.
Happy to help. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and your sub. Ride safe and have a great day.
Patients...Clean oil is hard to see....Ride Safe..
Hey rocco i have a 2015 honda fury, and i was wondering if i could still use the 20w-50. Thank you.
I would stay with OEM 10/30 For a newer bike. Hope this helps.
Appreciate it man, ride safe.
Why did you use 20w 50
Happy to help. That was a customers bike. And he claimed for the high mileage and noisy motor.. I like 10/40 Lucas MC full synthetic. Thank you for watching and you sub Charlie. Ride safe and have a great day.
20w50 do vtx? Nie powinno byc 10w40?
Happy to help. I would use 10/40 the owner of that bike had very high miles and that's why he chose the 20/50. Thank you for watching and all your support ride safe and have a great day.
do you think using lucas oil high performance 20w50 is safe for my vtx?
Use the oil that Honda recommend for your VTX. The customer in that video used 20/50 and had no problems. This was a high miles Florida bike. He is still riding that VTX1300 to this day. Hope this helps. Thank you for your support.
The oil filter is fram not frame just to be clear! aalso not a very good view of the oil plugs!
Happy to help. Thank you for watching and all your support Mark. Ride safe and have a great day. VTX is a great motorcycle.
Oil too thick for that bike!, 1040 is what manual says lol this isn’t a Harley it’s compression is lower and cam engines have smaller passages that thin oil needs to pass through not to mention the amount of total resistance the cylinders will go against sloshing that thickness lol
I agree. But that's with the homeowner wanted. We ran it seem to help it but I didn't like for long. bike had to many miles. Thank you for your input
@@TwoWheelRocco no problem it’s equivalent to overfilling it lucky it didn’t blow head gasket or worse bend a rod. I’ve overfilled before on my first bike in high school and blew head gasket lol
I’m trying to solve a mystery on my vtx as to why it only took 3 quarts to fill it when I know it needs 3.9 it’s why I’m scouring internet lol
@@ItalianMetalHED take notice to drain plugs on the your bike and that's why you're wondering why it doesn't use the oil needed to fill. it he never empty all the old oil. just check it let us know two two plugs on VTX1300
@@TwoWheelRocco oh I did that’s why I’m wondering if there’s a clog internally. Previous owner ran conventional and ran rich mixture so it sludged up
@@TwoWheelRocco I drain it on jack
