68 yrs old (fit/strong) riding 50 yrs I had Harleys and too many others to name.. but switched to Victorys (have two). I bought my wife a V-Star 650 and felt she was ready for an upgrade. I saw a guy on a 1300 VTX last year at Sturgis and said: “There’s her new bike.” I bought a 2007 "super clean” with 15k mile for $3750 and put another grand in extras (stereo, larger shield, Viking bags, rack)...now she wants to stay with her V-Star 650: BUT I (me) JUST LOVE IT! I am 6’/230lbs and I feel comfortable as heck on it and just admire the look/technology. I have no choice: I’m keeping it. If I could have only just one bike: I could say: this one could easily be the one (because of the size/nimbleness). I would feel comfortable taking it cross country.
I bought a used 2005 VTX 1300. The model is affordable. Mine has an aftermarket exhaust that I like. The only thing I've had fixed is the front fork seals. At 32k miles and almost 20 years old, I can't complain. The VTX is one of the better cruisers I've owned. Excellent video.
Just got a 2012 fury. Coming from 30 years on Harleys. Will never go back! Shifting us a dream. Not a single drop of oil under it. Perfect cruiser! Just understatement!
Demand for the VTX bikes on the used market is going up. These machines were so underrated in their day. I paid $5k for my '03 VTX1800C 16 years ago and I could easily sell it for $6k tomorrow. Tires, filters, fluids and battery. That's it. Every time I check the valves they are dead on. Honda needs to bring these back. I'd be first in line to get one.
I bought a 2004 VTX 1300C as my first bike 3 years ago. At the time it was a one owner with 19K miles on it. I'm sort of a big guy (5'11", 250 lbs.) and I wanted to get a decent bike that was low maintenance and affordable. I was hesitant because it's not a small bike by any means, but I didn't want to get something too small that I would outgrow in a year. This bike pleasantly fills the bill and looks and sounds great. I get compliments on it all the time, and it's pretty much stock (the seat was changed to a mustang and is a bit more comfortable, and the headlight was upgraded to LED). I change the fluids and I had to put a new battery in this summer, but other than that I have not had to do anything major. I may have to do the brake pads soon, but that too is just normal maintenance. This bike is so much fun to ride. I prefer cruising the back roads as opposed to highways, but that's because I ride with no windshield. 60-65 mph is very comfortable... above that you can get some wind buffeting, but I very much like the feeling of the wind in my face. I wear a half (actually 3/4) helmet when cruising, and a full helmet when i will be on the highway. The bike starts up right away. You have to let it idle for a few minutes to get her warmed up, but after that she's ready to roll. As stated earlier, I'm a newer rider, but this bike fits me like a glove and I have no issues when I need to merge onto a roadway or jump on the throttle to pass someone. At some point I may get a touring bike - I'm 59 and may retire soon and would love to travel a little more on two wheels, but I will always keep this bike as a daily rider. Honda hit it out of the park with this bike.
Bought a 2004 vtx1300c from a friend for 3900, fairing and big shots + a ton of other acc. Got a warhammer themed red/black airbrush and hard vikingbags to trick it out! I love the simplistic design and dependabilty. Also easy to work on for a novice. The comet style tank is sic. I'm 43 and Been riding 15 yrs and this Bike will last forever.
I just bought one a couple days ago, picking it up Monday. Plot Twist: It's a 2004, has 19, 800 miles on it, garage kept, one owner, VERY well taken care of. A couple weeks ago we had a LOT of rain in TX and his place flooded. His garage got about a foot of water (so drain and replace the fluids easy enough), the water got barely over the transmission. He's been a customer/friend and is gettin older, so he told me since it took on water, 500 bucks and it's mine, and I would've been a FOOL to turn it down.
@@TylerChaseMotors Yea, I'm scared of the internet lol. Depending on who you watch there's about a million suggestions on the kind of fluids I should use. The actual MANUAL calls for 10w-40 for the oil, and for the final drive fluid to be SAE 80. I'm honestly not sure what the hell to do, cuz while I've worked on cars plenty, and I'm mechanically savvy, I've NEVER turned a wrench on a motorcycle.
I have owned several bikes and currently have several in the stable. American V twins, metric inline 4’s… The VTX 1300c makes me smile ever time I take her out. Always fires right up, always says’YES LET’S GO” like an enthusiastic bird dog at dawn on the first day of the season. Assembled in Ohio and torque for days when you twist the throttle. Once you ride it you get why it was coined a Honda Davidson. I have ridden lots of Harley’s and this bike sounds more like a Harley to me (evo and earlier) than the the M8 and MileaukeeTwin It is a hard bike not to love.
Yep you hit it on the head! this bike is super reliable, standard entry level, some people understand that and keep it forever!! it's so affordable it's a win-win
I bought a 2006 VTX 1300 R last year. It’s my 23rd motorcycle and I’ve been riding over 50 years. It had been sitting for years. I put a fuel petcock on the tank, a battery, a set of tires, and adjusted the valves. The previous owner said he brought it had about 10k miles. It actually had 6800. It already had aftermarket exhaust and the carb is perfectly tuned. It as fun to ride as any of my previous Harleys or metric bikes. It’s a great riding and handling bike for a cruiser.
I bought a 2003 vtx 1300c last August in an online auction and rode it back from Iowa to Beaumont, Tx (950 miles) over a three and half day period and I absolutely love it!
07 1300c with just over 50k at the moment. Lived on this bike full time for a year, put on 31k that year. 2 sets of tires, an oil change, and front fork seals was all the maintenance on that trip. Just snapped my clutch cable the other day though. I’d get on that bike and ride for a year again in a heartbeat. Love my vtx
over 35 years riding experience and hundreds of bikes, my vtx1300c is my forever bike. Is it perfect, no but the sound is amazing, the ride is good and it has the honda reliability. with a little tuning it can be fast enough that if you dont hang on it will leave without you. all for a fraction of the price that some of the other big brands.
hey man anything I should know before I buy it? any tips? Im 6ft tall and weigh in around 65-70kgs, so do u think I'll have trouble using it as my first bike (and whts ur height and weight)? also any details abt ur bike that u can tell me?
@@varquettestudios I'm 6' 2" 190lbs and I bought mine with forward controls as a first bike in April. Everything else about the bike is pretty much perfect in my opinion.
I love mine. 2009 VTX1300C. I havent had many issues with it. Idk why people say it's slow, unless you're used to 0-60 in under 2.0. I've gotten to 60 in less than 4 seconds, which is plenty.

This bikes for me. 8 years riding trails and road on my KTM and Yamaha before that. Time to move up. Good video! I have about 50 of these saved on marketplace gonna buy one next month.
My favorite crusier is my third gen Magna and my CTX1300. Love the V4s. I’ve ridden the VTX1300 and it was smooth, just not enough get up and go that I’m used too. The Magna spoils you. The CTX1300 would run circles around it. The VTX 1300 is a great looking bike.
My buddy stepson just bought one and brought it over...it was sharp......had a fairing and a stereo...riser with 6 bars.....nice bice....vibrated like a HD.
I’ve been looking at getting a 2nd bike strictly for road use and more highway friendly then the RE Himalayan that I currently own and the VTX was on my short list. I owned a new 2008 Shadow 1100 Saber and really liked it at that time. I’m a fan of shaft drive bikes in general as well as almost everything Honda.
I've got the 1300s. The literature says it's 690 lbs and with a few extras 700. I'm 5'9" and can sit on it with both feet flat. Keep it vertical when going slow or sitting stopped, or else you'll be picking it up. I'm glad it's 700, not 900 like some of the other cruisers.
I have an '06 and when I got mine, I absolutely hated the seating position and the handlebars. They were way too far forward for me and I hated leaning forward to ride. So now after doing the socket riser mod and some pull back risers, the handlebars are up about 6" and back a couple inches and so much more comfortable.
I have a 1300C now and had a 1800S and can say the 1800 is a much better bike all-around and they go for close to the same price in my area. The 1800 is a monster.
Nice maintenance free bike. I prefer the 1800 but the ground clearance is too low. Definitely would recommend the 1300 for a first time bike for a well built person with good riding instincts. Definitely needs Cobra pipes and a jet kit to get the most out of it. Stay safe 🤙🏽♥️
I've owned 2; a C and an R. Solid, dependable, cheap price, cheap fit and finish, great bike if you're trying to get into big twins at a good price. I quickly moved on from them however. Plasti-chrome and pleather. 5 speed gear box. Boring bikes not in a negative way if that makes sense...but boring all the same. That's why there are so many for sale w/ such low mileage. Most people don't seem to lay down too many miles on these things. Myself included. I moved on w/in a year of owing both.
There’s nothing like a V twin, except a V4,2X the power. My fav is my Honda CTX1300!, I cruse around town with my third gen Magna as well. I rode one of those and it is a great bike. Just not enough acceleration for me.
I have a 2011 Honda interstate and I didn’t buy it because of the reliability because I didn’t know that at the time but I was looking for a used fury and the dealership didn’t have one at the time but he had my bike and it had some of the qualities of the fury but it had hard bags and full windshield floorboards and a heal toe shifter so I’m coming from a sport bike and I’m also a great grandpa and I felt like an imposter riding that bike because everybody riding one looked like a 25 year old and plus I’m not a fan of the riding position but if you tuck yourself in you hardly feel the wind but I think I have the right bike for me it has enough looks for me and the bags, floorboards, heel toe and windshield are things that I didn’t know I needed until now so I’ll probably keep this bike because every time I ride it I can almost hear the song bad to the bone! And that’s why I ride in the first place
Big difference between 1800 and the 1300 weight 1300 1800s about 100 lb heavier unless you're writing style is cruising interstates the 1300 will be fine one thing you should do is replace a neck bearings with all ball bearings

This bike will hit 100 real fast and has no problem keeping up with any Harley. All of my buddy's have Harley's and I'm the guy that always brings the Honda lol. This bike has massive torque, fast off the line, looks great, sounds great, cuts through the wind without any stability issues, very agile for its size, i can't think if a single bad thing to say about this bike. Its definitely not a beginner bike as I've accidentally kicked the ass end sideways and im a very experienced rider. I've had crotch rockets, Harley's, a 1600 c90 boulevard, and this bike overall is the best of the 10+ bikes I've had.. sorry, I got to disagree with you bro.. the way you rode it make it look like a turd.. mine screams bloody murder and will smoke the tire off the line.
I kept waiting for him to ride it but instead of all I did was listen to him. I would rather listen to the bike but it didn't matter because he didn't do it justice anyway.
The worst thing I noticed was that the speedometer was way off on mine, like 15 mph at 70 on my bike was 55 when my wife followed me. Haven't fixed that yet
I'm totally new to motorcycles, I'm 6'2 and 300 lb, I live in Miami Florida. Would this be a good first starter bike? I'm looking at a used one, it's a 2007 with like 32,000 miles. I just want something very reliable, and I don't know anything about motorcycles, is 32,000 miles too much? And what should I be looking for before I buy. it thank you very much for this video
Fuel is gravity fed to the carb, the carb does have a mechanical fuel pump but I’m talking about it not having an electric fuel pump to get the gas to the throttle body like on an EFI bike
I bought mine in 2005 mine is a.lot faster.than 750 shadow and bigger bike you are wrong it will out run 750 too I. Never adjusted my val.mine has 24470 mile still runs great
I had a Yamaha 400 Maxim in the '80's rode it into the ground and I was "One with that machine" (at the time I was 135 pounds). I occasionally got to ride other motorcycles over the years, then 3 years ago a 2005 Honda VTX 1300C found me. It was the right bike at the right price and I have enjoyed every minute of the 24,000 miles I've put on it. I added a better seat, windscreen, sissy bar, bar risers, a Glens VTX Garage clutch pull relief, and recently a Speedo Healer (the factory odometer is 10 percent off). Other than changing tires, fluids and 4 new plugs nothing unusual has happened to my machine. I ride it as often as i can, Utah winters can be mild, so I ride it every month of the year. From canyon cruising to commuting its a great place to be.
Got the S model as my first bike and I love it. Only downside is that it has no fuel gauge. Twice ive run out of gas because I was zoned out and just enjoying the ride.
I'm considering between this and the V Star 1300, which is supposed to be built on similar engine design (single pin crank, etc.). However it does not make nearly the same sound as the VTX does. What's the reason?
I just bought this honda 1300 yesterday and I have my Yamaha 05 V-star 1100 which has a shorter stroke so is why it sounds difference and it has vance and Hines on it.
If you’re talking about the pair valve block-off plates, then no you don’t. I got mine from goheencycles, great product and shipped quick. I’ve done two now and I get the ones without the little divot drilled in them. All you have to do is take the screw out that holds the reeds on so that the plate will fit. The screw broke off on both the bikes I did, which doesn’t matter because you don’t need it anyway. Or you can just get the ones with the divot and not have to screw around 🤷♂️
If you’re good at riding it’s really not that heavy. The weight is so low. You only need the strength if you get in a stupid situation where it gets leaned over too far. If you’re just maneuvering it around it is super manageable
They do feel kinda short compared to my kawasaki 1500. Try a kawasaki 1500 or 1600. They feel good. I've had 3 of them. I still like my new 07 1300R Honda.
@@levelupgaming4062 I wouldn't worry about him or the rest of the Hardly Gayvison cult. They're too busy jerking a corporation off to buy a bike that's designed well. The single pin crankshaft speaks for itself. 😂

You should ride the 1800. Ive had one for 12 years. Even after buying a Harley my VTX isnt going anywhere!
The 1300 sounds better because it has a single crank pin. The 1800 sounds like a truck with no muffler because it has a duel crank pin setup.
@@chuckbowen4334 you're right. That's the main thing I don't like about my 1800. I think it sounds like a 4 wheeler!
Love mine so much I bought a fury with the same engine. Still have both.
Going out to look at 2 tonight. Your video really helped. 👍
I absolutely love mine, I put Cobra Dragsters on it and deleted the emission system.
You have a picture man?
This bikes for me. 8 years riding trails and road on my KTM and Yamaha before that. Time to move up. Good video! I have about 50 of these saved on marketplace gonna buy one next month.
Bought one from a guy at work 1300c model for 1500 bucks.I absolutely love it!I don't think you'll be disappointed
@@richclark2360 You stole that...how many miles on it?
@paulkocher6803 26000 miles but it was well taken care of.Had it serviced and put a new front tire on....and off into the sunset we go 😂
Got my first bike, 04 1300C, in 2020. I still absolutely love it. The only change I still want to make is to put a batwing faring on it.
I like them because they don't have fuel injection. Less things to fix long term.
I have a VTX 1300 and a Valkyrie, both great bikes!
I have a silver one same exhaust I love it. Great go to work bike. Great go have fun bike! I will get an 1800 too!
if the 1300 is slow to you, they have an 1800 that hauls ASS
Yamaha V-Star Warrior 1700 is an absolute ripper! 🙂
1300R was my starter. Wanted a tourer with 6th gear, since 80+ the VTX starts to struggle. Went to HD RKC, but know want to go back to VTX 1800.
There is a fuel pump under the bottom back, but it will run gravity feed
The 1300 does not have a fuel pump, the 1800 does
you are 6'1 feelimg comfortable in riding and i am only 5'5 imagining how it will look on me if i ever get to ride this sexy looking bike ❤
I have the 1800 VTXC 2002 and I also have the VTX 1300 S 2003 awesome bikes
I have a 1300C now and had a 1800S and can say the 1800 is a much better bike all-around and they go for close to the same price in my area. The 1800 is a monster.
It's maintenance free just bypass the fuel pump and unplug it get about a foot and a half of 3/8 rubber hose the bike will run forever
My 1300r with my custom pipes makes other cruisers cry. People on the road seem to hate me too lol
Put a #58 pilot jet in it, and it becomes a whole new bike!
There’s nothing like a V twin, except a V4,2X the power. My fav is my Honda CTX1300!, I cruse around town with my third gen Magna as well. I rode one of those and it is a great bike. Just not enough acceleration for me.
03 vtx1300 s is my first bike. It is a good first bike as long as you have road a 250 dirt bike or more
I have a 2011 Honda interstate and I didn’t buy it because of the reliability because I didn’t know that at the time but I was looking for a used fury and the dealership didn’t have one at the time but he had my bike and it had some of the qualities of the fury but it had hard bags and full windshield floorboards and a heal toe shifter so I’m coming from a sport bike and I’m also a great grandpa and I felt like an imposter riding that bike because everybody riding one looked like a 25 year old and plus I’m not a fan of the riding position but if you tuck yourself in you hardly feel the wind but I think I have the right bike for me it has enough looks for me and the bags, floorboards, heel toe and windshield are things that I didn’t know I needed until now so I’ll probably keep this bike because every time I ride it I can almost hear the song bad to the bone! And that’s why I ride in the first place
Big difference between 1800 and the 1300 weight 1300 1800s about 100 lb heavier unless you're writing style is cruising interstates the 1300 will be fine one thing you should do is replace a neck bearings with all ball bearings
you gotta be in either NY or MA
great review, btw... i have wondered about those, and it seems just as i expected it to be.
My 2000 Shadow is a great road burner.
You didn't give this bike the credit it deserves. I own the same bike, 06 VTX C and it will easily raise the front wheel, I'm not trying to ride wheelies on a 650 pound bike tho.
My dad rode one and let me ride his. I miss that bike however I chose a Harley softail over the vtx1300.
My first bike at 68 vtx 1300s
I had a VTX1300 it was my first bike I loved it! Unfortunately I wrecked it and I’m in the market for another one!!
I love my 06 VTX. The only thing it needs is a 6th gear.
I started on a VTX1300 at 28 years old with absolutely zero riding experience of any kind before hand. My 1300 isn’t going anywhere!
I have 4 carbs on my 95 Magna , 65000 miles ...never touched the carbs...
The worst thing I noticed was that the speedometer was way off on mine, like 15 mph at 70 on my bike was 55 when my wife followed me. Haven't fixed that yet
They make kits for that
I'm totally new to motorcycles, I'm 6'2 and 300 lb, I live in Miami Florida. Would this be a good first starter bike? I'm looking at a used one, it's a 2007 with like 32,000 miles. I just want something very reliable, and I don't know anything about motorcycles, is 32,000 miles too much? And what should I be looking for before I buy. it thank you very much for this video
I will like to buy one
I have the vtx 1300c and the 1800s
Is this good to travel?
It does have a fuel pump.
Fuel is gravity fed to the carb, the carb does have a mechanical fuel pump but I’m talking about it not having an electric fuel pump to get the gas to the throttle body like on an EFI bike
I'm thinking about buying one for $3500.
I bought mine in 2005 mine is a.lot faster.than 750 shadow and bigger bike you are wrong it will out run 750 too I. Never adjusted my val.mine has 24470 mile still runs great
What do you guys think about the VTX1300? I'm super interested to hear what other people think about them.
I love my 1300.
I love mine I just put my second pair of tires on it. I have cobra swept pipes and it sounds really good 👍🏻. Pretty damn quick too
I'm considering between this and the V Star 1300, which is supposed to be built on similar engine design (single pin crank, etc.). However it does not make nearly the same sound as the VTX does. What's the reason?
I just bought this honda 1300 yesterday and I have my Yamaha 05 V-star 1100 which has a shorter stroke so is why it sounds difference and it has vance and Hines on it.
Lots of plastic on it too.
Will it Jump Across the intersection from a stopped position?
Will it go from Zero To Six
When you place the valve plates ,do I need to do something else to the carburetor?
If you’re talking about the pair valve block-off plates, then no you don’t. I got mine from goheencycles, great product and shipped quick. I’ve done two now and I get the ones without the little divot drilled in them. All you have to do is take the screw out that holds the reeds on so that the plate will fit. The screw broke off on both the bikes I did, which doesn’t matter because you don’t need it anyway. Or you can just get the ones with the divot and not have to screw around 🤷♂️
The guys saying this bike isn’t fast enough are the same ones driving raised 4x4’s that have never seen a dirt road🥴
Is it heavy for a small old man who has experience riding .
If you’re good at riding it’s really not that heavy. The weight is so low. You only need the strength if you get in a stupid situation where it gets leaned over too far. If you’re just maneuvering it around it is super manageable
I have a 2004 it most like bike I have 7 bikes 😊
Do you know what's/how I can get a detectable windshield?
Switchblade quick change windshield from Amazon.
Ur wrong about the power u are no winding it up it will 125 mph I no I'm 6.2 285 lbs so I no
To weak engine, loss of power, I had a 1800 , that is a big different
You must’ve riden a piece of shit my 1100 c2 is fast as fuck lol
I have a 1300 and it’s pretty fuckin quick. Keeps up with Harley’s. My dad has a 1800…. That thing is pissed
What about a Valkyrie?
I've been eyeballing some Valkyries on FB marketplace lately. Very tempting
@@TylerChaseMotors Nice, i want a Valkyrie as my first bike need get the licence first here in Norway, costs about 25000 kr, 2000-2500 dollars.
I'm 6'3 is it to small
They do feel kinda short compared to my kawasaki 1500. Try a kawasaki 1500 or 1600. They feel good. I've had 3 of them. I still like my new 07 1300R Honda.
consolation prize for removing the Rune from production?
Lee Paul Davis Mary Garcia Gary
My cruiser is a 2002 Harley Davidson softail deuce. And a 2013 road glide ultra
U need too rude 750 shadow there's a big difference 1300 is much nicer bike riders better too
Ur handlebars are crooked.
Love Honda's, but this is toy like in appearance in my opinion .
How's that??
It's rather boring looking side on . Just looks like a big matchbox toy . Good bikes , each to their own .@@drool3696
“Who isn’t for”? Dumb question. Don’t try to categorize.
You’re right, you should know absolutely nothing about a bike before buying it, how dumb of me 🤷🏼♂️
You sound like your voice is about to break for no reason.
Hahah I'm not even sure what that means
It’s for someone who wants a reliable cruiser. But it’s dog ass slow. Had to say that cause someone says it’s not.
What are you used to then ? Mine is pretty fast ….
It is a good cruiser, unfortunately, Harley Rider's HATE EM. It's for those Harley Pretenders
its for people who just want a reliable bike has nothing to do with being a "Harley pretender". if you wanna go fast buy a sportbike.
@@levelupgaming4062 I wouldn't worry about him or the rest of the Hardly Gayvison cult. They're too busy jerking a corporation off to buy a bike that's designed well. The single pin crankshaft speaks for itself. 😂
