Bob you’ve made owning a VTX so much more simple and fun. Thank you for the videos. This helped me so much! Tire is on and I’m back on the road. Thanks again!
Thanks for Watching and happy riding.
Like watching a surgeon at work! Thank you, Bob.
Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you for the video! I am a pretty decent backyard mechanic but working on my motorcycle is kind of intimidating. I loved your video. You made it easy to understand and you’ve got right to the point. Thank you I have a 2004 VTX
I think it always helps having watched someone else do it first. Thanks for watching.
I'm getting a tire replaced on my 1300 and learning how to do this myself is saving me $90 in labor fees! Thank you Bob!
Glad to help, Love saving money. Thanks for watching.
I figured the same thing here.. 90 dollars to mount these? WOW.. So it takes me an hour, not a problem. I just bought a motorcycle jack and I will save in labor alone, 150 for front and back tire labor. The jack was only 125 and I have it now for other things.
Thank you very much, Bob. Now i now, how to remove and replace the rear wheel. I own a 2006 VTX 1800 R / sc49 with 42560 miles.
Your videos are very instructive and very helpful, of course. Greetings from Bavaria.
Thanks for watching, happy riding.
Video was very helpful, took the intimidation factor out of doing it. Mines a 06 N model, had plenty of space to get the bolts out without touching the exhaust & axle came out super easy . Thanks for showing a rookie how to do it the right way 🙏
Glad it helped, thanks for watching.
Excellent video...very well done and without superfluous talk. I have an 03 1800 that needs the flange bearing fix, a rear tire and brake pads. Your video will be my best reference for the job. Thanks.
Glad it helped, Thanks for watching.
Just bought an 03 vtx 1800r. Glad I found your videos. Thx
Thank you Bob! This is very well edited and informative.
Thanks for watching
I'm a do it yourselfer type guy and this makes it look so easy to do!! Thank you H.T. Bob for your video on the rear wheel removal!! From now on, my bike jack is going to start paying for itself!! Had the jack for about 2 yrs. and hasn't been used but it will now!! Thanks again and Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)
Glad you are able to use the video and glad that Jesus loves me and died for my sins. I like to see someone still uses the KJV.
Thanks for watching, happy riding.
I had no idea how to do this as always had chain and sprockets, thanks for a very informative video you explained everything in plain English many thanks.
Glad to help, Thanks for watching.
Thanks for your videos, it'll soon be time for the riding season and pre-season maintenance so much appreciated..Cheers!
Can’t wait to hit the open road on a regular basis. Thanks for watching, happy riding.
Gona be doin this soon. First time takin the wheels off gona clean and polish as well as tires. Thanks Bob ur super thorough thats good
Glad to help, Happy riding and Thanks for watching.
Good video. Forgot about the caliper mount bolt, this helped. Might give more room, if you have the big radius two into one exhaust, I have it too, remove the rear section of the exhaust, two bolts and one clamp.
That could be the next addition to this bike. Thanks for watching.
Hey Bob enjoy watching your I have the 06 VTX f 1800 I learned a lot from watching thank you
Thanks for watching. Happy riding.
Nicely done, thanks for taking the time to make this video! It's funny, I have a different motorcycle jack and mine isn't smooth while lowering my bike either.
With a bike this size it never seems to be smooth enough.🙂
Thanks for watching.
very helpful. next time a tire change or service is required ill be ready. this time I opted to have someone install my tires and give everything a once over since the bike is new to me.
Thanks for watching. Happy riding.
Great video thanks for all the help. 💯👍🏼😊
Great detail. Thanks for the video, brother!
Any time! Thanks for watching.
You make it look easy. Thanks.
Thanks for watching, happy riding.
Thanks for the video. You helped me a lot
Glad it was a help, thank you for watching.
Thanks so much for this video. Made the job easy. 😊
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching.
Thank you brotha your a blessing
Great video. It is gonna help me save a lot of money!
Awesome, thanks for watching.
Thanks Bob next time I get tires I will try myself. Thanks 🙏🏿
Thanks for watching.
Great job my man
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video, I recently got a VTX1800C and just pulled the rear for a tire change. I was able to take some shortcuts though. I left pads in the caliper and left the caliper attached to the bracket. I got the bracket stop bolt out of the way and slid the whole assembly up and off the rotor as one. I put a rag down and the bracket is sitting on the aftermarket drag exhaust. I'm sure there's some mechanics out there screaming, but I've never pulled pads for a wheel removal on any bike I've owned. Wiggle and slide caliper up and off then slide back in place when going for install. just don't squeeze the lever as mentioned, cheers.
I don't understand reasoning for greasing the wheel bearings when they are sealed and greasing the axle and spacer other than to maybe do a light coat to avert corrosion. I have an 1800 Retro that had a leaky bead and to mount I had the right saddle bag off and used a spud bar on the bag mount and thru the rim and wheel was almost perfectly balanced that meshing the gear splines was a piece of cake.
@@archiebunker7688 yeah, wheel bearings are sealed. Just a light coat of grease on the axle and a bit around the lips of the dust seal is all that's needed. Final drive splines I don't use grease. I apply Loctite 51048 "moly paste" to the splines.
This video helps so much!
Awesome, thanks for watching.
Спасибо большое за ваши видео
You are very welcome.
Nice video clip . muchas gracias saludos ..
Thanks for watching.
Nice video sir! For next time, you can leave the brake caliper connected to the bracket and lift the whole assembly up and out of your way.
Good time to add disc brake quiet to the pads and line up the sliding areas. For the extra 5 minutes it worth it to me. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
@@funbro1 ive never added disc brake quiet to any of my brakes on a bike. Never neeeded it. I don't understand why you are getting noise unless you are putting it on there just to prevent it?
I used this video to take the rear tire off of my 09 VTX 1300 R and and it was very informative however I will just add that you do not need to remove the muffler bolts on my model, there is plenty of room for that caliper bracket pin to slide out of the way as is. Also I did not remove the caliper from the bracket as there is enough room for the bracket and caliper to move the slight bit out of the way and stay mounted together, thanks!
Sounds like your bike may be a little bit easier to do. Thanks for watching and happy riding.
Very good video!!!!!
Thank you very much!
Well done. Good video.
Thank you very much!
Say what U will. I still believe the most safety U can get from the rear wheel nut is to have a small hole drilled out for a carter pin.
I know I am probably over thinking it. Lol enjoyed your video!thanks Bob for sharing!
Not a bad idea. Thanks for watching.
There is enough torque on the nut that it goes nowhere once tightened to spec.Seriously you really think Honda engineers were sleeping on the job? Relax in my 40yrs of riding axle nut never ever came even close to get loose
Great videos Bob!! Want to polish my wheels need to remove rotors... what size is the screw head front and back rotor? "T" something? Or? Do you have an instructional video on replacing rotors?
Thanks in advance
On mine they are both a 6 hex. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
This is not the same for a 07 1300c. But it sure does help! Thank u
Awesome! Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thanks for this. I just had a 2005 given to me for free but it only has 4,000 mi on it. I have to remove the wheels because there's a lot of corrosion and I want to clean it up so this will make it easier
No problem 👍
Классное видео. Привет из Москвы!
Спасибо за просмотр
Thank you for your time
Thanks for watching. Happy riding.
@@funbro1 just finished putting it back together. This video was a great help
what grease do you use?
Thank you Bob
Thanks for watching.
Thanks Bob!!
Thanks for watching.
I need to patch my rear tire and only way is to remove rim I also while rim is off polish rim too so 2 for one deal this video helps so much but I have back fork completely chromed so I gotta remove all that chrome first if only u seen this bike it is bad ass white wall Dunlop as well chromed front to back top to bottom
I'm thinking it's an 8mm hex bit on the left side, not sure if VTX 18/13 might vary? Thanks for sharing FunBro!
Thanks for watching.
Hey Bob, Does the bike need to be in gear to line up the final drive splines, or can it be in neutral?
Either way will work just check it before setting the back wheel back down to make sure the splines are matched up.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for watching.
I can't for the life of me get my splines to line up I've fought for hours jack up in different positions any suggestions? Thanks for your well done videos.
Try putting the transmission in 1st gear, if that doesn’t do it try it in Neutral. Hope this helps.
Thanks for watching.
Do you have any torque specs on the axle and the calipers?
Rear axel is 81 lb-ft. and 22 lb-ft for the caliper bolts.
Awesome thank you! Are u still watching video comments? I have a few questions
Yes I am thanks for the question.
Thanks Bob
Thanks for watching, Happy riding.
Thanks so much !! I need a tire the guys wanted to charge me 200 to put it on
I'm looking to get a mini jack how high off the ground does the Retro have to be in order to get that wheel out of that fender
With the R model it has to go pretty high. Unfortunately I don't have a number for you. Thanks for watching.
12 inches
Thanks heaps mate
Happy to help, Thanks for watching.
I have a 08 1800n is it the same process my back fender in really low
my back fender 7" off the floor
Is the locktight a standard thing?
Or just the proper torque spec will suffice?
The Locktite is extra. I usually put it on the axels. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
What torque do you do on the axel? Or do you?
If you do, go to 81 ft. Lbs. Thanks for watching.
Nice video Bob, I am repairing my 04 VTX1800R after I was hit. I have to change the tire as a result of the damage.
Good luck! Happy riding and Thanks for watching.
is that just regular bearing grease on everything?
I used a wheel bearing grease.
Will this be the same on my 1800c?
Depending on the year it should be very similar. Thanks for watching.
The piece at 1:26. Where does that go when reassembling the brakes? Also, mine seems smaller thanx yours. I have the 04 1300c
I believe you may be talking about the brake return spring. If that is the piece you are referring to it will go around the brake pad. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
How can I get your fenders for my C
I'm still debating doing this myself or just paying the extra $50 in labor to have my local shop do it. I have the 1800C model and my first attempt taking the rear wheel off did not go very well. 1 thing led to another setback and before I knew it I had been going at it for a couple hours and barely had the caliper bracket off. lol
To each their, but I would rather do it myself to know it's done right. Hard to tell whose working on ur bike. Unless u have a shop u trust
Im worried of removing rim tire i have to vinal wrap bike new color but well im good at not being able to put back together lol
Yes, care must be taken to prevent damage. Thanks for watching.
How tight so u tighten rear axle
Go with 81 ft./lb.
Thanks for watching
U can use diamond metal polish on those rims thet will come out so dang shiny u should see mine woooow that nice
I don't know if it is worth the effort to me, I could spend that time riding. But it is a possibility. Thanks for watching.
@@funbro1 need to remove front and rear rotors, do you have an instructional video on removing, replacing the rotors? What size screw head holds rotor on? T something? Or?
Thank you
No antiseze on axel?
No, if anything I would use a thread locker. Thanks for watching.
What grease for splines/ differential etc.
What grease/ oils do I need?
I believe it’s the same as the axle, I did the same on my last bike and she ran like a champ. the only other grease I seen used in this video is the brake grease. Pleased correct me if i’m wrong!
wait He did mention bearing grease for the bearings and hub I’m not sure if that is different
next video would you leave the tools that you used though out job it would make it quick and easy when pulling out tools for the job
I'll take this into consideration. Thanks for watching.
You could just list the tools in the comments section.
why not use Molly Paste and when do you change wheel bearings?
The recommended lubricant is waterproof grease. You should do a test to know if the bearings need replaced. Inspect the bearings with the wheel installed, rotate the wheel and listen for roughness in the bearings, use the wheels as leverage to detect wear by jacking the wheel off the ground and rock the wheel up and down and side to side to check for axial and radial play. If you detect play or hear a grinding noise it may be time for new bearings. I Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.
funbro1 ok thnx so wheel bearing grease is good?
Do you know what the torque spec for that rear axle nut is?
81 Ft/lbs
@@funbro1 thanks so much
Since rim is removed and taking off tire u could use white diamond metal polish on rims find at autozone local auto part store and corded drill also a polish cone those rims will gleam as if chrome
That would look good.
Thanks for watching.
I came hoping to learn the tools sizes needed for this job so I can prep accordingly.
Sooo... This last time I changed my rear tire I just put it on the lift, pried/pushed my brake pad back in as far as it would go (being careful not to mar the rotor up, of course) then pulled the axle nut off, slid the axel out and dropped the wheel down. Same thing in reverse to reinstall except I swung the caliper bracket up out of the way until I had the wheel back onto the final drive and my axle bolt fed thru just into the spacer. Then i swung it back down and lightly tapped into place and pushed the axel bolt the rest of the way thru. Tighten the wheel nut and the 14mm bracket bolt, pump my brakes back up and..
🏍️💨
What grease did you use exactly?
I used Pro Honda Moly 60 Paste or an equivalent molybdenum disulfide paste that contains more than 40% molybdenum disulfide. Hope this helps, Happy riding and thanks for watching.
Sure looks like regular bearing grease. Where do u get moly 60 paste? Honda closed for weekend and been parked 2 weeks waiting on tires already.
@@fuckgoogle8857 it is. He must not remember the comment he left the other guy which he said he used waterproof grease. Not moly paste
WHAT WAS THAT METAL PIECE THAT YOU PULLED OUT OF THE CALIPER....
I am not sure which piece you are referring to.
@@funbro1 looks like a thin metal bracket....or brace
Axle nut torque?
How strong are you?
@@funbro1 there is such thing as too tight
Molly grease right??? Not grease like regular grease!!
great video, however you should add the proper torque specs for the axle, calipers, and exhaust bolts.
Next time, maybe.
Thanks for watching.
No torque specs are required sometimes. Juts a little of Common sence, its all you need.
@@dan1769 lol. Common sense is so rare today it should be classified as a super power.
You're supposed to use moly paste not grease and you should lightly sand your axle
Nah. No need to sand if there is no reason to. Thanks for watching.
@@funbro1 reason would be to make the axle easier to get in and out
Came out easy already.
81 foot pounds of torque for the axle nut
YEP, Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing, but...Honda Molly Paste for splines, NOT GREASE!
Moly paste/grease. 100,000 miles. Still going strong. Thanks for watching.
I don't even think you need to remove the brake caliper or pads. The brake caliper and bracket would come out as one unit after the axle rod is removed and bracket bolt is loosened
I guess that might be possible.
Thanks for watching.
Rear tire of course 2003 vtx1800r
Thanks for watching.
Your not suppose to grease the axles. Putting grease on the axle is bad for the axle. Your suppose to use anti seize
Never had an issue. Not sure why you say that? Thanks for watching.
Your axle needs grease really bad
Nope, it’s fine. Thanks for watching and happy riding.
U did a bunch of unnecessary work with those breaks
And yet I am still riding. Thanks for the view.
What exactly do you mean, like he did not have disassemble as much?!?
When removing the long axle I'd probably put a 2x4 under the tire to support the tire.
That could work.
Thanks for watching.
