- This is my first attempt to change the oil in my Honda VTX 1800C final drive.
There are not many tricks about it and all the procedure is very simple.
Enjoy;)

Happy to meet you here with the VTX love. I hope you have a peaceful sky where you just moved to from UA. Slava Ukraine, Brother!!
the entire final drive oil change should be done when the bike is leaning on its side stand. read your owners manual and check out the vtx forms online
I've noticed few people are paying attention to the what the manual says :\ even when it comes to oil changes, you do it with the bike on the side stand to get it all out, it's counter-intuitive, but it works.
Holds little over 4 oz. But as U said, Fill it till it runs out, I think you should have bike on its stand to change this final drive oil...Just saying...
Dave, you're right. Honda Owners manual says this should be done with the bike on the side stand. However I doubt that having the bike upright in a wheel chocks will add enough extra to do any damage.
Just go spend the whooping 7 bucks and buy a fluid pump.
OK. I know this is an older video to comment on, but I wanted to first say thank you for provided such a great detailed video on changing VTX final drive gear oil.
Was wondering what size (cc or ml) is the syringe you used in this video?
I've tried so many different ideas/techniques, but yours seems to be the best when it comes to getting the exact amount filled back in the final drive, which is 4.2 oz according to the service manual.
Just was wondering.
Thanks.
Take care
It doesn't matter, just use what you can to get it in, or preferably buy something in a bottle with a tip on it, so you don't need a syringe.
You have to spin the wheel to get all the old oil out
Right! Will do next time
There's literally no need to do that, but I understand wanting to do everything you can :)
@@Giitzerland the manual says do this, and when I do, more old oil comes out.
That oil shouldn’t be black coming out!!
OMG! you have three hands at 1:37 !! that must be handy for many things :P
Hahahaha ))))))
Do you still have your bike? I have a 2006 VTX 1800N3. Love Ukraine! Visited about 8 years ago. Hope you are safe and are still able to ride!
thanks for the video...:) it was informative and also funny...you made me laugh...:) thank you...lol
i know I am quite randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to watch newly released movies online ?
@Henrik Armani i watch on Flixzone. Just google for it :)
@Andre Aron yup, been watching on Flixzone for years myself =)
@Andre Aron thank you, I went there and it seems to work :) Appreciate it !!
@Henrik Armani you are welcome =)
so what does that top cap do? you would think it would be easier to fill from the top
It is not for that purpose...I iwis it was
Road Home love your videos, keep up the good work
Top "cap" is a vent for when the final drive oil heats up.
Thank you

You didn't do the secondary oil change
thankyou
Looks like you over filled it. Not good. Supposed to have it on its side stand. Probably done some damage.
yep, most things regarding maintenance on the vtx are done on the side stand. they spend a ton of money in R&D, and I'll take Honda's word before *any* mechanics. No disrespect to any mechanics ^^
Is it okay to have conventional oil in the motor and synthetic in the shaft?
Yes. It is ok.
Honda advises against full synthetic anywhere on this bike. you could cause clutch slippage, and there's zero need for synthetic in the final drive.
did you use a torque wrench to remove the bolts?
RanGer498
Nope, I don't have it:(. Of course it is better to use the torque wrench. But just to tighten the bolts.
Road Home I do that same thing at times..thxs
A torque wrench is used to tighten to spec, not remove.
@@Giitzerland i know what its used for thats why im asking .
Always best to change crush washers every time .
Whats with the plastic bag?
It is ok... What is worong?
He just cares about his wheel. What's the big deal?
