Yeah i knew it before i even rode the bike, i just slipped up lol its a sick bike. I almost feel angry at Honda for not making gnarly cruisers like they used to anymore
I see a lot of people comment on how Honda V-twins like to rev. Yes, it's a Honda, not a Harley. They do have some low end grunt, but they also can rev, which will give you more power. There also is a rev limiter on Hondas, so you don't have to worry about hurting the engine. And no you don't ride on the sidewall with a car tire on. It won't lean far enough to get near the sidewall. The tire tends to mushroom a bit so you actually get better traction than a bike tire.
You should hear mine. 1300 c with Vance and Hines staggered long shots. I've definitely heard some louder over the past few years, but definitely not often!
I prefer regular motorcycle tires, but I will admit this thing grips harder in a straight line and lasts 3x longer than a regular tire. It handles well enough in the curves that I actually forgot it had a car tire mid-ride lol Still not for me though. Ride safe out there
No Harley Riders ever feared any Honda ever made. People riding Harleys don't even acknowledge Honda's existence. It's a whole different world, and if I had to explain you wouldn't understand. I was a Harley mechanic for about 30 years. That being said love my Honda Valkyrie. Harley Riders could care less about Honda or any other metric bike. That's why they make Zippo lighters, and Cricket lighters. One you throw away ,and the other you refll and keep.
I live in Harley country so i know EXACTLY what the "whole different world" is. Thats because the majority of Harley riders are in their own world, and only care about Harleys. Most Harley fanatics dont even realize that other cruisers exist!! Thats because there's a difference between motorcycle enthusiasts and "Harley guys" who don't really know much. If you are going to put high miles on the VTX1800, you have to darkside. These bikes eat rear tires. You can't get coast to coast without stopping for a tire.
Just bought a 2004 VTX1800S. It's pretty perfect in every way other than the sound. I know it's a dual crankpin motor but I miss that shake rattle and roll from my Roadstar 1600 (single crankpin). I have a set of baffles coming to tone it down a slight bit.
Yeah these cobra drag pipes are way too loud too!! I love the performance of a dual crank pin setup, but theres just something about the sound and shake of a single pin crank that i love!!
If you install the 1300 final drive, it's like having a 6th gear. for some reason Honda decide to put the lower gear ratio final drive on the 1800, and the taller higher gear ratio gears on the 1300. probably to help make the smaller engined 1300 more highway worthy.
I was owner of one 2002 VTX 1800 for two year, reagret I sold it, wonderful bike and It smoked every of my Harley friends, same mods like you tells this bike in video has . Can tell you way more than 100 fps in torch, closer to 130 fps on backwheel

@@NicePantsLance it's obnoxiously loud. Just what I wanted 😃. Freedom performance pipes if I remember correctly. Has a Star etched into the chrome next to the name
I just bought a 2004 1800c VTX, 15k miles. It's 15k so nothing should be wrong BUT it feels like it struggles to breath or something. Like 50 mph is 4th gear, if I try 5th it just shakes and stutters-ish. Is that normal?
@@NicePantsLance if the "cobra" tach is correct, it feels like it's struggling under acceleration at anything under 3k. It gets up and goes but it's not smooth at all, like it's struggling for air.
Could be anything from fuel pressure regulator to a vacuum leak. Might even be loose battery terminals, or fouled plugs. Is there a power commander or any tuning done?
Wow, you may be the first person I've ever heard prefer the Shadow over the VTX1800! I kinda understand. My very first motorcycle was a Honda Shadow Phantom 750 and it holds a special place in my heart!
You never ride on the sidewall with a car tire. The bike won't lean over far enough with a cruiser. I 've had car tires on a few bikes now and won't go back to a motorcycle tire any time soon. They handle just as good with the correct tire pressure. Since when do you have a 6th gear with a VTX?
If you are still curious about this thats pretty normal, its a massive engine and transmission, if its not slipping or doing anything else funky make sure you have enough clean oil in it and you're good to go!
Awesome! I have an 02 1800r and they are freaking monsters, only has5 gears tho, and that’s the only reason my two buddies on Harley keep up and get a little ahead.. if this beast had 6 I’d probably kill myself on it! 😂😂
It's the pop and gurgle from an open exhaust and a rich tune. Also the engine braking on deceleration changes the sound of the motor a little bit. The doppler effect comes into play too
My VTX1800 with V&H and no baffles sounds like a tri-axle dump truck desperately jake breaking down a mountain when I am at moderate to high RPM and snap off the throttle. It makes people look.
there's no difference in power from the R to the C to the F, s all the same, except for looks, and minor difference in weight. ALL are equally fast AF!
@@NicePantsLance hope so, don’t really want to spend the money on a turbo. Bigger cams should do it. If not I’ll go bigger on the crank shaft. The vtx is a monster bike to start with.
Sounds like you're unfamiliar 😁 Its called "going Darkside" and thousands of riders do it in the USA. Believe it or not, the car tire will flex just fine. It doesnt ride on the sidewall, and it actually gives you a wider contact patch than a MC while leaning! You'll scrape the pegs long before you "run out of tire". Better braking from the rear, better stability, better handling in the rain, and you also get 20k+ miles out of 1 tire. People have been successfully doing it since long before i was born. I will be posting plenty of videos on the handling, so stay tuned! If you are still in doubt, check out the multitude of Darkside groups on facebook. There's plenty of info to be read!
@@NicePantsLance Very interesting. I'm really wondering, how can it work in corners. MC tyres are usually using special compounds and different compounds on different parts of the tyre for proper grip in the corners. And even the shape of the tyre is designed to lean easier. I'm just trying to imagine now, that a car tyre can be pressed on sides under pressure in the corners if the tyre pressure is lower. Interesting idea, but I have no idea if it can be still safe if leaning harder. Otherwise I fully agree, that on a highway and when driving in a straight line, the grip must be fantastic, especially in rain. I will do some researxh about it. Changing my tyres usually every 3000.
It definitely seems like it wouldn't work at first glace, doesnt it? I can see why its hard to believe, but there's definitely more to it! I mean, people have been doing it for so many decades! Now that I've spent a little time with the darkside, i cant imagine going back to a regular tire! No lie, after you get used to the handling you'll forget theres a car tire on the rear lol Stay tuned, ill make some videos on the darkside in the next few weeks! 🤘
Yeah absolutely 👍 ive seen some powervision'd Breakout 114's in the 110-120whp range. Vtx1800's are usually in the 100-110whp range and are way heavier than the Breakout. Props to the VTX1800 for makin that power since like 2001

I personally think the VTX with the digi display is the best variation!! Lemme ask the owner about the rear tire and get back to you 👍 sounds like you have quite the beast!! I wonder what the street sweepers sound like compared to the drag pipes on my buddies bike!
What engine rpm does it stutter at?
Check out this article. The early 1800's suffered from a electrical ground issue that causes the TPS to fluctuate. Might wanna check it out!
@@NicePantsLance if the "cobra" tach is correct, it feels like it's struggling under acceleration at anything under 3k. It gets up and goes but it's not smooth at all, like it's struggling for air.
@@NicePantsLance Great! Thanks! My first bike was a 2018 750c Honda Shadow so I don't have much to go off of since I took such a large leap.
Could be anything from fuel pressure regulator to a vacuum leak. Might even be loose battery terminals, or fouled plugs. Is there a power commander or any tuning done?
I have a 2007 vtx 1800 c with all digital read out , same as the bike in the video.
Its the best version of the VTX in my opinion! 🤘
Bro VTX 1800 only has 5 gears. But it doesn’t feel like it. Enjoy!
Yep, that was my mistake lol im sure alot of VTX owners wish they had a 6th!
@@NicePantsLance not me. 5 is plenty
I had a VTX1800 and I didn't really care for it. I liked the 1100 Shadow better. Both are Hondas so your getting the best motorcycle made.
Wow, you may be the first person I've ever heard prefer the Shadow over the VTX1800!
I kinda understand. My very first motorcycle was a Honda Shadow Phantom 750 and it holds a special place in my heart!
Getting older so I don't need as many ponies now, lol
Short, narrow pipes produce a tinny sound. Try a wider pipe. You'll get a better sound.
It's my buddies bike and unfortunately he got in an accident with it last summer and totaled it
I wish for the 6th gear every time I get on the interstate
Yeah me too lol i mistakenly said this bike was a 6-speed and im paying for it in the comments section 😅 wishful thinking though!!
It is 109.5 cubic inch. It is comparable to a harley cvo 110 bike.
It's even faster than a CVO! 🤘
Yeah the 6th gear thing was my mistake lol but yes, darkside is the way to go for motorcycles like these 🤘
Just bought VK2 13klm 04 only complaint gears shift 1st 2nd CLUNK this normal❓
I'm not sure, ive never ridden a Vulcan 2000 so idk how the gearbox is. Sometimes a little thunk is ok, but it depends on the bike
If you are still curious about this thats pretty normal, its a massive engine and transmission, if its not slipping or doing anything else funky make sure you have enough clean oil in it and you're good to go!
@@ethanfriedersdorf thanks for that did change the oil its an odd change CLUNKER 1st 2nd
@@NicePantsLance thanku changed oil 1st 2nd gears CLUNK not jumping out gear gets hot in traffic hwy bikes 🚀
Awesome! I have an 02 1800r and they are freaking monsters, only has5 gears tho, and that’s the only reason my two buddies on Harley keep up and get a little ahead.. if this beast had 6 I’d probably kill myself on it! 😂😂
Haha I was definitely mistaken thinking they had 6 gears! I kinda like it that way. Don't let those Harleys get ahead!! 🤘 thanks for subscribing 🙏
Better than hd at everything.
Agreed! Its a shame they dont make them anymore
Any info on the speakers ?
Unfortunately not. I dont believe the owner got them working
You could have slammed shifted it without the clutch and got a faster 0-60! I have an 1800c and boy is that mf fast
Yeah I definitely didn't get into 2nd quick enough either lol if it was my bike I'd feel more comfortable speed shifting. Cheers 🤘 ride safe
Just 5 gears. How do you name the big escalonated sound when you take back the throttle?
It's the pop and gurgle from an open exhaust and a rich tune. Also the engine braking on deceleration changes the sound of the motor a little bit. The doppler effect comes into play too
My VTX1800 with V&H and no baffles sounds like a tri-axle dump truck desperately jake breaking down a mountain when I am at moderate to high RPM and snap off the throttle. It makes people look.
Furthermore, mine is the 1800R, it's still stupid fast.
I like the R model for the fenders! I know guys that turn the R and S model into baggers
there's no difference in power from the R to the C to the F, s all the same, except for looks, and minor difference in weight. ALL are equally fast AF!
Well said!! They are definitely fast af!! 🤘
Bout to throw a bigger cam in my bike and retune the power commander 3, see what happens 😁
You'd have a monster cruiser 💪
@@NicePantsLance hope so, don’t really want to spend the money on a turbo. Bigger cams should do it. If not I’ll go bigger on the crank shaft. The vtx is a monster bike to start with.
Try to move the microphone near the bike away from your mouth
Post the car tire size please.

@@NicePantsLance air pressure.?
how does vtx800 handle corners?
Handles it surprisingly well. More nimble than most of the Harleys I've ridden, but the lean angle is about the same. Floorboards scrape too easy
I touch the floorboards before I feel any loosening of the tires.
How can you lean that bike properly with a car tyre? Must be extremely dangerous in the corners
No lie, after you get used to the handling you'll forget theres a car tire on the rear lol
Stay tuned, ill make some videos on the darkside in the next few weeks! 🤘
about to inherit a 04 vtx with only 4k
Lucky you!! The VTX is an amazing bike. Its a shame Honda doesnt make them still. Ride safe out there 🤘
Speakers? On a sled?
He's got speakers installed in the side panels! Not quite functioning yet
What is size of a car tire?
I'm not sure actually

Port and polish on the heads
I think it's a 5 speed not 6.
Yes thats my mistake
Darksidded my 1997 Yamaha Royal star. Rides great.
Awesome bike!! I bet it eats up the miles 🤘 thanks for watching!
I just put it into sixth, six is more like an overdrive...🙄
Yes I realize this is a 5 speed and I goofed up. Thanks
It's an American bike, made in America, by Americans, for a Japanese company to sell in America, to be more correct.
Thats very true! The VTX is more American than alot of Harleys out there
You don't look fat.
You know you could be drinking 2% milk if you wanted.
Or driving a 750cc bike
If i had a 750cc bike i would definitely get shocks, pegs.... and take it off of some sweet jumps! 😁
not stock either.
Definitely not stock lol 😁
Don't lug a honda.... low compression high rpm = very happy bike ....!!!!
Surprised at how freely it revs for a big v-twin! Love this bike
There is no sixt gear man…
My mistake 👍
I've ridden a VTX 1800 but my Harley BREAKOUT 114 (stage 1 ) is way better and shreds the VTX
Yeah absolutely 👍 ive seen some powervision'd Breakout 114's in the 110-120whp range. Vtx1800's are usually in the 100-110whp range and are way heavier than the Breakout.
Props to the VTX1800 for makin that power since like 2001
VTX 1800 OVER A OIL LEAKING HARLEY ANY DAY 👍
@@homerflesher7426 Yeah, but a Breakout 114 is not an oil leaker and is superior to the VTX
@tailgunner8683 ANY CHART OF RELIABLETY SHOW HARLEY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST, SORRY WHEN IN THE REAL WORLD YOUR HARLEY IS NOT RELIABLE!!!
@@homerflesher7426 Well in fact the breakout is reliable and has been so for more than 5 years so far.
5 speed….
Yeah that was my mistake
Not nice to flip people off watching your video Pinhead. Can't be doing that on the Honda we are the nicest people that you meet
Well said lol
What an embarrassment for Harley Davidson. And the Honda VTX is 15 years old. Harley Davidson is just to antiquated.
Mine is 19 years old and will still outrun every cruiser out there.
Probably everything except a Vmax1700 and Rocket 3!
Abomination 😅👍😎 just kidding. Beautiful machine. Just waiting for GB gov to let people train me on A and I go for one if still available. Lmao when I heard you being impressed by it speed and acceleration.
With that car tire on the back it really pushes you back in the seat on launch! You won't be disappointed 👍 thanks for watching
@@NicePantsLance Any time. Just corrected my spelling as thanks too auto it looks like I do not know what I am typing. Was car tyre standard on this model. I won't probably do it as my reason for riding is to get of the car after being only driver in my family 🙄 and would remind me of it all the time then 😅though I a believe it must feel nice but would feel like having Mum picture attached to dashboard yet trying to relax once driving 😁... if that make sense. Any way do you know whether there has been much change in models since 2002 to 2007?
6th? Really??? 😂
Yeah i goofed that one up pretty bad 😅 i knew it had 5 gears, but 6 came out of my mouth anyway. I've been getting roasted in the comments section ever since so i guess it evened out haha
Had to fast forward thru the obnoxious intro music.
The intro was 15 seconds......15 entire seconds. You poor baby 👶
@@NicePantsLance more like a minute forty five. Just not my taste in music.
Oh, you're including the walkaround portion, which would be absolutely ridiculous in silence with no music. The mute button has always been accessible to you, so i really dont mind if you use it. You dont need to let anyone know you muted it though. Thanks for watching anyway
LMFFAO.. F.O.S. 👎

This bike doesn’t have 6 gears. I has 5.
Yeah i goofed that one up
