  • In this video I setup and review my new Lulzbot Mini 3D printer, from Aleph Object, Inc. I also made a small upgrade to the printer to help with noise coming from the stepper motors.
I've had this 3D printer for a few weeks now, and I can't be happier with the print quality and the ease of use. The auto bed leveling is great, and this machine prints very consistent and accurate. No failed prints so far (knocking on wood)!.

I would be interested in a video that quickly showed how you installed the motor isolation mounts

So for the amount of filament (say pla) to print that octopus, how much would it cost for the material? Also does it print metal filament by chance?

From a technical standpoint, that Lulzbot Mini is inferior to that Chinese Delta Printer. If you wanted to print ABS on the Kossel, all you needed to do put a heatbed on it. The Chinese vendors typically offer the heatbed and larger power supply as a $20 upgrade at the time of purchase. I hate to say it, but you just paid $1250 for a heated bed and a print volume which is actually smaller than the Kossel.
The Lulzbot uses the antiquated Mendel moving bed design which has enormous moving mass and simply can not print as fast as a Delta printer. The direct extruder is easier to setup compared to the Bowden on the Kossel, but properly setup, a Bowden extruder prints with higher quality at higher speeds.
Neither printer is enclosed, so printing ABS is really no better on one than the other. If you wanted a machine which could print ABS a bit better, you could have bought one of the many Replicator 2 knock-offs with dual extruders for less money than the Lulzbot. Actually, your best enclosed printer buy for under $1000 would currently be the Wanhao Duplicator 6, which is a clone of the awesome Zortrax M200 and is less than half the price ($800 vs. $2000 for the Zortrax).
