  • This section covers installation of all 'belly' components and shows a case air check being performed to validate that all applied elements function properly when air is introduced into the clutch circuit. I also discuss shift calibration based on application and give tips/pointers when it comes to setting up your shift firmness.

    Thanks for the foot note to clarify the 3-4 shift happening faster. I understood it tine first time but I understand how people can think it will shift into OD earlier.

    A cap from an oxygen tank works great for a governor cover installation tool.

    I can't turn my output shaft by hand, had to use a pair of pliers, normal or not normal?

    • @nickstransmissions
      @nickstransmissions  3 месяца назад

      Depends on how strong you are but assuming average strength for a male between 18-65, that's not normal. Do you feel/hear any unusual noises? Can you spin the output shaft independently of the input shaft and vise versa?

      @@nickstransmissions I removed the front pump assembly and it turns easily now so it has to be something with the assembly or maybe how I installed it.

      That tells me you may have a bind up somewhere due to either insufficient end play (ie an interference fit) or broken parts. Many times, folks don't realize the drums arent fully seated due to one 3-4 clutch getting hung up on the 3-4 clutch hub so you'll have .080 less spacing between the pump and the drums than you'd otherwise have...Just something to keep in mind for when you go back together with it.

      @@nickstransmissions Somehow my dumbass put two washers on the front drum instead of a washer and a thrust bearing🤣🤣

    Hi there, I've seen you reverse the 3-4 accumulator, could The spring and piston position be reversed in the 1-2 accumulator too? My th700 transmission is used one spring instead of two.
    On the other hand i am also in doubt should i do it for 3-4? Of course you said it makes the shift crispy.

    • @nickstransmissions
      @nickstransmissions  4 месяца назад +1

      I have actually never reversed the 1-2 accumulator in a 4L60E so can't actually say for sure! But the 700R4 through 95 4L60Es and 96+ 4L60Es have a slightly different 1-2 acc hydraulic circuitry hence the difference in piston orientation and spring counts...Whether flipping the 1-2 acc piston in the 1996+ transmissions would cause problems or not, I'm not sure...In 2007+ they did eliminate the outer spring but I've never done so in a pre-2007 unit either as I haven't had the need to experiment with those...
      Thank you for watching, Yousef!

      @@nickstransmissions thank, i got it. My trans is for 1991, i did rebuild it step by step with you. So i must back the 1-2 accumulator to the stock position cause i flipped it.
      Also i i flipped 3-4 accumulator. Do you suggest to keet it up side down or back it to stock position for 1991 th700 transmission?

    • @nickstransmissions
      @nickstransmissions  4 месяца назад +1

      I keep the 1-2 accumulator piston for the 700R4 in the stock position then install a stiffer spring if you want to crispen up the 1-2 shift.
