    Man I’m so thankful for this rebuild I’ve done a couple 4L60 rebuilds for myself never did anything to valve body or pump I’m now building a stage 3 700R4 85 year model and unfortunately I got ahead of myself pulling stuff apart not labeling it. Stupid I know but with this video I have successfully rebuilt my pump and valve body with little to no worry. Thanks for this great video

    Using your videos and transmission bench videos I've learned how to rebuild and identify parts in a transmission. I've rebuilt 5 so far and about to do number 6 all the last five have been great. thank you for the knowledge and much love!

    Very nice video. I may get a TransGo shift kit for the next trans I do. Since I'm trying to learn to do transmission repair professionally and the way TransGo writes their instructions, it may very well wind up being that for me and others like myself trying to learn this trade, the instructions for the TransGo shift kits could be the most valuable part of the kit.

    • @dmorley100
      @dmorley100 10 лет назад

      Yeah, I think they're great too even though I've personally never used one, at least not yet. Like I said, the next trans I do, I plan on using a TransGo shift kit. I guess I should clarify what I said about the instructions being the most valuable part of the kit for someone such as myself, trying to learn professional transmission repair. The way I look at it, the instructions are valuable, not just to get a quick turnaround and prevent comebacks on whatever unit you happen to be working on, but rather to study them and to figure out how and why the fixes in those kits work. I think understanding how and why those fixes work could enhance ones understanding of transmission operation and improve diagnosis for all transmissions, not just the unit that specific kit is designed to work with. It's a win-win to me.

    Just a question regarding a step you skipped in the video.... In the kit, it mentions grinding the 2nd land on the Pressure Regulator Valve (PRV) and instead never even removed it before dropping green spring. Was that just because of the difficulty in its removal face up? Would you recommend doing so otherwise? I understand it provides more constant lubrication. Thanks for everything. I do see you have many ppl asking for your advice and questions, I wish I didn't add to that list too.

    Great Job Hiram. My only question; is there a big difference between an 84 and a 89? I have a 89 model that will be replacing a 84 model that had a bad case. It is a fresh rebuild. had a few broken parts that were replaced. It is not releasing from forward. changes gears off the ground. No 4th. Will not drive the wheels backwarrds. You can feel it going into R but the wheels dont move. Initially they moved backwards. Once I went into D it has styed there. N,OD,D,2,1 all move forward and are limited by their location. Of course the local shop cant think of it without the trans in front of them. Will this kit help me? Or should I get the full transgo 700 Kit? Thanks in Advance.

    Hello Hiram, I have a question concerning the servo modification. Is the modifications that are made to the servo take the place of replacing it with a corvette assembly, or is it best to use a corvette servo? Also, is a corvette boost valve needed or recommended for the pump?

  • @ridd5959

    Please help! I rebuilt my 700 following every video you've made on it. Including the transgo kit. Now the line pressure is WAY too low! (Not that I had the ability to test it before.) My issues are with 1st gear. In the D position the trans is actually in 2nd to start, but if I manually shift to 1st it will start in 1st and shift to 2nd at about 7mph. Also if I am going down a steep hill and need 1st to slow me down, it won't hold there at all. ( I damn near killed myself on a very steep, winding mountain road with my breaks smoking and loss of break pressure.)
    The one mistake I think I made is drilling larger holes in the seperater plate in the locations you recommended, too big. I didn't check the diameter with calipers.
    I don't know the purpose of drilling those holes bigger so I don't know if that is the issue.
    This is a mountain truck and I need 1st gear working correctly. Again, please, your advice is greatly appreciated!

    Hiram how you doin? Have a quick question for you if you could help me.
    I have done up a 700r4 and put it in a 77 vette all is good except shift points and using the Governor out of the T350 as figured it was good for ratios etc. Not working the way it was in the T350 with good low speed shifts, rather than going through the weights springs process I was wondering if changing the TV valve spring to a lighter/shorter one ( I have 3 different spare ones) would bring the shift points down across the range. When I built the trans I used the longest one which was from another trans. I have one from a transgo shift kit and others from a V6 and V8 trans.
    Hope you can help. Once again love your work.

    • @petermoir3924
      @petermoir3924 10 лет назад

      Hi Hiram thanks for the reply,I did a swap to a spring of the same length but a thinner coil dia - .05 less from memory and it took the points down to where I wanted them for highway work, I used a standard V6 governor and the lighter spring worked excellent. I also had to lengthen the cable out 1 clip past standard adjustment to ensure proper pressure rise from idle.
      I took a lot of care with the cable mounting and arc of travel. if anything the distance from centre pivot is maybe on the upper limit but OK, maybe why I had to step the cable out one notch.

    when the the throttle is at rest how far out does the TV plunger sit? Ive got an issue with my trans and the manufacturer has advised that the valve may be sticking from breaking in the trans. When ive removed the pan ive noticed that the plunger is sticking out about 5 groves and there is a noticable space before the lever. if i pull the plunger it come outs about 1 move groove and touched the lever. The plunger will push all the way in and you can feel the spring compression. When release it goes back to about 5 grooves and the last grove before it touches the level has no spring pressure and is loose. Is this normal? what moves the tv valve back, oil pressure? would this plunger move back fully when in operation?

    Hiram, I have a question. I already rebuilt my '93 700R4 (MD8 case) and used the Transgo 700 2&3 kit. All is well, shifts strong, good lock up, good pressures, etc., except that from time to time, I don't get 4th gear. Which parts of the 700 JR kit corrects the lack/loss of 4th gear. The 2 & 3 kit already had a pump valve (looks like the toughest part while on one's back in the garage), and I wonder if some of the JR kit parts are already in my transmission or were a part of the 2 & 3 kit. Thanks in advance.

For example 120,000 miles on the original OEM never been rebuilt transmission that has been serviced via oil and filter changes every 30,000 miles ? Still functions good and had the Corvette servo put on it about mileage 65,000 to improve shift 1 to 2.

    I have a 7ooR4 in my 88 Surburban XL with a 350 TBI(soon to be carb) suddenly my wife was driving it and it lost all power, it was towed to the house, I started it the next day trying to make it do something, you can tell that you've moved the shifter and the vehicle wants to do something but it wont or just barely creeps,it is 6800lbs. Anyway I built the engine but I've never been in a chevy trans only mopar, I love this vehicle and need it back in duty as it is her daily driver, any ideas as to what happened?
    It like its lost all line pressure or the clutches just went out, there are no leaks,odd noises, nothing,TV cable is functioning properly...Help?

    I'm installing this kit on a unit I'm building for a friend. The instructions say to reuse the 3-4 accumulator spring but when I disassembled the transmission I got the two springs mixed up and I don't remember what one came out of what side of the channel plate. Do I use the stiff or soft spring in the case for the 3-4 accumulator? I also have a new channel plate coming because the check balls beat the hell out of the old one. Will the new transgo plate already be drilled with the proper size holes?

    • @billiebobthemechanic
      @billiebobthemechanic 8 лет назад

      +Billybob themechanic Never mind, after I thought about it the kit has you flip the piston and the spring basically taking the spring out of the equation. With it like this the spring is just in there to keep the piston from floating around. I will stick the soft spring in there.

    • @deankay4434
      @deankay4434 5 лет назад

      @Dels Transs I can’t answer for Hiram, the this Transgo jr shift can help your 1-2 soft or slide bump upshift. P/N SK 700-Jr-B
      As long as you don’t have other issues or high miles, parts outside this kit can wear or stick causing the same issue. Check fluid conditions to start, but with pan off, stop and inspect to determine what’s in there. If clean, good to go. If you find dime to quarter size piles of friction material or what looks like metal-flake paint job it may take more.
      Pump makes pressure to apply a drum or hold a band, but these use a tv cable to adjust actual holding pressures. Less pressure is less engine load and better gas mileage, but bad for holding. This tv cable has to be adjusted right but also free in the VB. You saw valves stick in the video and this will effect shifting. A valve gets pressure on one end but the faster you go, the governor pressure will change. So the valve will move to the side with less total force on it, then a shift will happen, as the last one exhaust and let’s go. During this time pressure pushes on accumulator to delay total pressure, then upshift happens.
      If tv is adjusted tight at WOT, 1-2 shift valve is free, governor works as it determines when the shift happens. This video did not go into this, but lives in case cover on RR round cover. A valve inside moves as weights push against it. The pressure drops and the shift occurs. If this is only problem, then try the kit. If all are early, fix governor first, otherwise, valves in the valve body will be helped by the kit. Make sure to do updates on the TV valve as well.
      Blessings!

      @@DELTRANIO99 Sorry to be long, I am retired but Hirum is trying to earn a living I am sure. Autos are complicated with a balancing act between gov pressure that drops the faster you go, shift of line pressure pushing against a valve at a certain ratio, plus spring for some adjustment. It is like a "Teeter-Totter SeeSaw" action for balance.
      Hirum is a good egg, as you can tell by what he shares. Watch all of his videos on the 700r4 + 4L60 and many things are the same on the 4L60e but solenoids for shifting pressure and force motor / pressure control motor - stepper motor, that controls TV pressure.
      If clean fluid, small amount of debris in pan, go for it. The "Gov" can be service outside rear on passengers side. Check plastic gear for "Apple Coring" or what you may call "Low in the Center" of the plastic driven gear, sold by color to VSS correction. It should not turn when installed and try several locations. Just be careful with vehicle up on rated stands, wheel chocks and solid ground while engine off and out of park, rotate drive-shaft to check gov. It has weights, springs that can be changed to dial in a shift speed. Just write down changes and results BUT only do one change at a time. Best of luck, hope this helps. @Nick Thomson I am suggesting you look at the RPO code list on the glove box lid for the trans code. But look at the transmission itself to see if the bell housing is split. You need to replace the metal clad tapered rubber front seal, plus get a T50 TORX bit. There are different offsets on crankshafts on certain Vortec engines, so you may need the OEM torque converter and flex plate. I am just saying to be prepared.
