One of, if not the only, known recording of Ron Carter and Art Blakey together.

One of the most melodic, inspired bass solos I’ve ever heard by Ron Carter around 12 minutes in...

Tete was and still is the only pianist in Europe playing at the highest NY level. He could play with anybody as this video shows very clearly.

vova47 You mean he could swing hard intellegent bop. Yeah I dug him alot too RIP but dude you oughta check out Phronesis! Anyway kinda narrow focus. I love how Blakey's digging it. Wynton is better as a sideman!

Saw this same brilliant Jazz Messengers formation, with a pipsqueak Wynton, but without Tete (and with rather repetitive, imo, solo’s). Plus the brilliant altoist/music director for the group, Bobby Watson. On a bloody very cold Thursday evening in Holland and was live broadcasted. These broadcasts were repeated on the American PBS airwaves, at the time. But this is a great clip, with great Jazz music as it used to be! Enjoy/Dig/Cheers!

@Jacqueline Odigie A bit of a mixed-bag off “guest” players at times, whilst the group was touring in Europe. With Tete indeed trying to outdo the American Jazz-pianists equivalents. Like i said i saw The Messenger without Tete. For me the greatest ever hard-bop groups/formations in the history of incredible Jazz. Take care Jacqueline. Dig & Cheers!

@Jacqueline Odigie Met Art, and his fellow Jazz Messenger artists several times at live (broadcasted) gigs in Holland in the late 70’s and very early 80’s. Incredible man who’s done more for hard-bop (-gutbucket shit we play- he used to say) than anyone i can remember. For me the best Jazz outfit ever! Enjoy/Dig & Cheers!
