Seeing a 19y/o Lee Morgan basically rip the trumpet in half must have been an outer worldly experience!
These guys are unparalleled. Bobby Timmons is incredible….Art Blakey🌟..and Lee Morgan….no words to capture his genius.
I stumbled upon art Blakey's work at 3am at night and I've got to say, God I love how quick things/info reaches us thru' the internet/RUclips.

It doesn't get better than Art Blakey. What a drummer! What a leader! He picked the best players. There should be an Art Blakey Boulevard in every major American city.
Lee was amazing, that trumpet has conversations with me and I'm always in a mood to hear Lee's trumpet speak.

As a trumpet player, he's one of my largest inspirations. I love the bite and sassy attitude he conveys in his sound.

Have you ever heard of the South London Jazz Scene? You really should consider listening to bands like Ezra Collective, The Comet is Coming (especially if you like electronic music) or Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (a must)

I'v been listening to jazz since i was a kid and no matter what other types of music I get into jazz will always be one of my top favorites and this is musical poetry.
Wow! Look at how youthful Art looks here! What an absolute legendary drummer and bandleader. The Jazz Messengers are one of the tightest Jazz supergroups of all time.
I spent most of my life listening to rock music I've only been listing to jazz over the last couple of years now what was I thinking about lol lee Morgan is the Jimi Hendrix of jazz its a crime these guys and others like them don't get the recognition that they deserve
They have gotten the recognition actually. In the Jazz world all of these guys are recognized very much. Unfortunately today most of the jazz is watered down with some exceptions of course.

If anyone has heard "Monday Night at Birdland" (featuring Morgan), which was from a year prior, you will probably recognise a lot of the licks/structure Morgan uses in his solo. It's always cool to see stuff rephrased.

Love me some of Lee Morgan's own compositions too , but talking merely top 10 for style, he's surpassed by my personal favourites Roy Eldridge, Clifford Brown, Art Farmer, and of course Louis Armstrong

I think this performance in Belgium 1958 is the best of best of Art & Messanger live! the best line up, the best set list, the best excitement, the best savoy ment, its the best rare jazz!!
No, Miles Ahead + 19 recorded in 1957. Miles Davis was unimaginably astronomical time leaps beyond Art Blakey and perhaps any other musician in any genre of his times. An obscure fact, the entire Miles Davis orchestrations with Gil Evans were all actually written, composed, and arranged by Miles Davis not Gil Evans. Why you think Miles Davis an AfroAmerican in the late 1950s walked off with all the recognition, not Gil Evans.

Art Blakey is great to watch and listen to. I get a kick every time I see a new video. His left right independence is fantastic yet the whole band always comes first. A weaker musician would have surrounded themselves with inferior musicians. Art had the confidence and style to lead. I wish I had met him.

私の父が好きでレコードを持っていました。子供の頃に聞いても魅力が全く分からずにいましたが、あれから40年以上たって、こんなにいい曲だったっけ？と。「ジャズはまるでドラムをめちゃくちゃに打っているようで、そこにほかのパートが合わせてくる。そうするとちゃんと曲になっている」そこが不思議であり、歌詞が無く音だけで表現してしまうところを父は魅力に思っていたようです。確かに時に歌詞は邪魔に思う時が人間はあると思います。すべて言葉で表される辛さ。クラッシクピアノを習っていた私にこのリズム感は残念ながら体に流れておらず、弾くことは残念ながらできないが、是非ジャズピアノを習いたいと思っています。

In Brussels in 1958, amazing performance of all of them. The concert took probably place in the Beaux Arts Théatre , at the occasion of the World Exhibition that took place in Brussels in that year. Someone correct me, if i'm wrong.
