    I'm 84 "in 2024" and found my love of jazz thru a cousin in 1955. He owned a joint called the Blue Note in Chicago and every chance I would go downtown and sit in the area he had for under age fans. The story I heard about Night was that the whole band was high on hashish when they wrote it.I was just a young white kid yacking with giants between early sets so who knows what was true.

    Not a great chart, but the sax soli was kind of cool. Interesting to hear Woody take a jazz solo on alto. Usually he just played ballads on alto-with great phrasing I might add.

    Not too many great male jazz singers. I will add Al Jerreau and Bobby McFerrin. Women, for some reason, outclass and outnumber the men excepting these three.

    All the drummers who participated are all great with their own style. For a true big band drummer, Rich had all the bases covered - excellent time, a showman, and one- of -a-kind chops. He will always be in my mind the world's greatest.

    I wanna add something to the double thumb technique, if your thumb is super straight without curving up like hook , the technique won’t be as good much more effort to sound good than someone who has thumb that curves up like hook will produce better tone and sound much better with less effort

    • @BeesKneesBenjamin
      @BeesKneesBenjamin 25 дней назад

      Hmm I have a straight thumb, it works really well for me. Never noticed it being more difficult to learn because of it, but maybe it's subjective and varies from person to person :-)

    私の父が好きでレコードを持っていました。子供の頃に聞いても魅力が全く分からずにいましたが、あれから40年以上たって、こんなにいい曲だったっけ?と。「ジャズはまるでドラムをめちゃくちゃに打っているようで、そこにほかのパートが合わせてくる。そうするとちゃんと曲になっている」そこが不思議であり、歌詞が無く音だけで表現してしまうところを父は魅力に思っていたようです。確かに時に歌詞は邪魔に思う時が人間はあると思います。すべて言葉で表される辛さ。クラッシクピアノを習っていた私にこのリズム感は残念ながら体に流れておらず、弾くことは残念ながらできないが、是非ジャズピアノを習いたいと思っています。
