Great review Thomas! Your review really convinced me that the E450 Cabriolet was right for me and really the best value in this class of vehicle. Place and order last week, now the long wait for it to arrive from Germany to the USA!!! Keep up the great work!!
Although I have a 2019 E450 model which is slightly different, this is still a tremendous review and does a good job of pointing out relevant information for the everyday buyer. This is a must watch if you're in the market. Provides good perspective to the daily driver.
Transparency note: Autogefühl videos are independent and free from editorial influence on opinion and rating. But since manufacturers enable us to do the reviews in the first place, for legal reasons this video is marked as _advertisement_.
Thomas: The aspect of your reviews that I like best is your preparedness to tell it as you find it, not spew unadulterated manufacturer propaganda. When you think a feature is retrograde (e.g. in this video your comments on the capacitive touch controls being over-sensitive) you say so. Bravo! All that aside, as "nice" a car as that E-Klasse convertible is, I'll stick with my '83 Euro-tune 500 SEC.
Hey Thomas, I might disagree with you on oil based products (artico) and the environment, but despite this, you are easily the best reviewer on RUclips! I’m buying my wife an AMG E53 cab, but due to Covid, Mercedes UK, have limited some of the options, for example, the brown roof. However, on the plus side, they’ve packaged some good value options into what’s called Premium Plus, in the UK. At the moment, in the UK, though, there are no ventilated seats or head up displays on the cabriolet either. I can’t even get a test drive of the e53 cabriolet either. So thanks for great reviews of the E450 cab and your other review of the E53 cab.
I really like your honest reviews and your ability to boldly comment on silly stuff manufacturers do..capacitive butttons, piano black ,fake engine noises, fake exhausts... it is in a way sad to see newer products being made to look more like cellphones than solidly engineered mechanical cars.. comfort is way forward but a fine balance has to be found between cramming in too much functionality vs driving experience.. animal free interiors 👍🏼..steering looks too fat... why should every new car be sporty and stiff handling?
Cabriolets are becoming very rare because everyone is buying SUVs. Even coupes are rare. I think it will be just super expensive cabriolets soon. This car is great, the interior is amazing.
Yeah coming from a 24 tundra owner this being my 3rd one had a 2007 and 13. I agree with this but like you said it's your personal preference. I could have bought any brand. I like how my truck looks and drives. Definitely pros and cons to all. Thanks for the video brother
I own a Mercedes C-Class (the small brother) convertible myself, so allow me some thoughts: - the color is marvelous, my car has the same - wind protector: yes, the classic protection behind the drivers seat is more effective, especially on the legs when it comes to wind on the Autobahn. But as soon as you want to drive open with someone in the back, the electronic system is great! With my previous convertibles (Opel Cascada and Golf IV Convertible) it was never possible to let the roof open as soon as it was less 25 degrees. With this system, it can go down to maybe 18 degrees and nobody in the back is complaining. - air suspension is great, but only as long as you have warranty and are willing to afford repair costs of approximately EUR 3.000,- as soon as it breaks down. I know, it's a Mercedes and you must be able to afford driving it, but still a lot of money. - heated driving wheel: I have this feature in my C-Class. As a matter of fact, it is nearly impossible to find a used car (mine was one year old, a former company car with 3.000km) with it. Reason I suppose: the heated wheel is round and does not look as fancy as the unheated wheel, which is flat at the bottom. In my opinion, a design mistake by Mercedes. - Engine: I own the 194PS Diesel and can drive it with 5.5l per 100km on the Autobahn (130km average speed). I did not yet get it above 7l (190 km average speed). When you look for a Mercedes, make sure you get the new Diesel version. The old one sounds awful, like a Traktor. But this newer engine is not noisy or rough, simply great! Finally, a great video which lets me think of upgrading in several years - if Diesel cars and especially this model are still available then ;-)
Thank you! Finally a good review. The 'not funny at all' numpties in the UK do not even know or mention basic things (folding the roof holder to increase boot space), and complaining that boot space is small.
Gotta love these cabrio coupes. Sadly hear the “rumors” that most of them are going to be discontinued due to low demand, or replaced in some cases by cabrio SUVs,more spacious to store the batteries the PHEVs and EVs require.
The E-Class Cabrio will actually be discontinued after this model... It will be replaced by the CLE which then also replaces the C-Class Coupé in a couple of years. So these two coupes will eventually be merged into one.😄
I think they have guys telling them the physical buttons are better, but then you have the accountants telling them no buttons is 50% cheaper to produce, and the decision is made.
Brilliant car and review and Thomas of course. Yes Thomas, at 9.30, cabriolets with the hood down DO have miles of headroom don't they!!! Very funny. 😂
Hi Thomas, thanks for the comprehensive review. I am considering a convertible for the 1st time in my life, but then I have read/heard about some cons about convertibles in general : - no roof frame --> less stability when driving (especially on autobahn) - noisy or noisier than normal coupé, because noise insulation is less effective with the thinner roof in convertibles - lots of extra maintenance and extra cost are required to maintain the roof system in convertibles and keep it working properly. Since you are a convertible lover, what are your thoughts on the above cons in general with convertibles ? What are your thoughts for the same questions, but applied to the E-Class convertible that you are reviewing in this video ? Many thanks for your expertise. Kim
I'd ask exactly the same questions about the E-Klass cabriolet, espcially regarding the cabin noise at autobahn speeds. How much noisier is it than the E-Klass Coupe? No decibels required, just personal opinion ;-) Thank you!
A difference between the E450 and E53 is that you cannot add a tow bar to the E53 but you can tow 1800kg with the E450 as I understand it. Do you know if towing was available for any of the model years of E53? (Since the only time driving slowly with trailer behind is enjoyable is with top down) Can you manually raise and lower the ride height of the air suspension? That is a helpful when you are using to launch the boat.
Not trying to be picky, but the video doesn't tell us much about the features of the car and how to operate them. The wind deflector discussion is the most in-depth part. The top goes up and down several times. The video seems to be mostly about a personal consumer impression of the car. Here: it's comfortable, looks nice, drives nice, goes fast, comes in different colors. Subscribe.
Great review as expected. Although the E Class is not my preferred model. I don't like the flat ironing dashboard. C43 convertible is my taste. I am anxiously looking forward to your review of the upcoming new AMG 300 SL convertible. The AMG 300SL likely is going to displace my C43. Of course the convertible model.
I generally don't like to look of most cars because they often appear severely 'unfinished'. Parts aren't properly tucked, proportions don't work (for me), unnecessary curves, etc. However, the most beautiful car I've ever seen was an AMG Coupe, probably an S-Class (though I thought it identified as an E). World class car, where every detail looked correct. Green glass?
I currently own the pre-facelift version of this car and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!... Without your help I might have ended up with roller skates! 😂 PS I would love to help make vegan interiors mainstream so hit me up if you ever need support. 😎
2:40 One day I'm expecting them to raise the camera up and Thomas to enter from the bottom on the screen... Then Thomas to collapse laughing because he's German and that was too wild.
The previous generation E550a seems a better car. Same fundamentals, relaxed V8, piano smooth steering wheel, 28 mpg at 75 mph, dip stick and spare tire. In the US, you will use the spare tire more than once, and will replace popped tires and repair AMG soft wheels regularly. This is a cruiser needs 18" tires max, on insulting US roads.
@@BigSmoke-fe2vd i quite like the mx-5 softtop and the new z4. i prefer it when the car is short and the windscreen length-car length proportions are closer. otherwise i think the car ends up looking too long and fat, while the windscreen looks too stubby.
Good looking exterior, but can anyone explain why steering wheels have suddenly become so stupidly big? And while we're at it the Merc badge on the wheel is way too large as well. I remember when Mercedes were tasteful, now they seem designed (well, the interiors at least) to appeal to Estonian strip club owners.
