- MSI has come to a close, and it was great! G2 went deep, the grand finals were nuts and Chovy finally won. But, there was something that overshadowed this event. Something big, annoying and, well, unstoppable.
We need to have a talk about K’Sante. Because after this weekend, even Riot has to admit he’s way too busted.
K'Sante has been broken since the moment Riot put him into League of Legends, so is it finally time to fix the mess they've caused?

This is K'Sante, a champion with 4,700 HP, 329 Armor, and 201 MR, has Unstoppable, a Shield, and goes over walls. Has Airborne, and the cooldown is only 1 second too. It costs 15 Mana. The W CD is even refreshed when he transforms. He has true damage on his passive. Then, when he stacks Armor and MR, he gets Ability Haste too, Ability Haste to his Q, and his spell casting speeds up. Then, he has an AD ratio, so his W…AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I'm no League player but even I know from playing another MOBA that this Champ sounds broken as fuck. What was Riot thinking with this guy???

@@EUM_NEMESIS it's because of Riot's 200 Years of Experience Balance Team, one of K'Sante designer's also designed Yuumi, one of League's most annoying champs to play against, the 200 years joke was based of Aphelios, a hero released back in 2019, basically, you pick him in pro play, you're almost sure win
@@EUM_NEMESIS im going to be rambling a bit but please bear with me. there is the old balance philosophy and there is the new balance philosophy for online games. the old balance philosophy is simply that for something to be good at one thing, it must be bad at another. there must always be tradeoffs. if its easy to play, it can't also be too strong. if it's hard to play, it can't be too weak. then, there is a new balance philosophy, which people claim originated in wow, but really was popularized with league. you have to understand that ghostcrawler, and many of the new people riot brought on after morello, had a different mindset. instead of balancing for characters, you have to balance the players. this was a time when everyone was copying faker and apdo, and applying their lane phase approach in mid lane to other lanes. the game was becoming top down street fighter, everyone was practicing to have insane finesse and laning skill, and the people who did were generously rewarded. so, the game had to change. things had to be removed, things had to be added, things had to be reworked to create a game that was less about creating true balance, where everything has counterplay, and more about keeping the "sweats" in line. this is why zoe was so powerful in s7, this is why ardent censir was ruining bot lane in s7. the goal is not to create balance like chess, the goal is to make sure the game stays fun by limiting the number of ways people can minmax the skill, and to create that "confusion" feeling where nothing works against an op characters so that it becomes even harder to learn the new way to play with each season.

What? Yuumi is fine y’all are just haters. Ka’Sante is fine to if you aren’t playing in literal pro play balance barely matters anyway. On ladder below Masters people are making so many mistakes all you have to do is exploit those mistakes to climb it actually doesn’t matter what they’re playing or what you play. Even in the highest ranks players make stupid mistakes all the time. If you aren’t close to reaching the skill cap of the game stop complaining about champions and get better at the game.

7:29 Chovy is the best example of how and why K’Sante wasn’t permabanned at MSI. There were games where teams were banning almost exclusively Midlaners just because of how ludicrously deep and dangerous Chovy’s champion pool is.
i remember Riot had to remove the q Fls kSANTE combo because the combo is undodge able, if adc or carry role get hit, 100% die LOL
They do that with any luck midlander lmao they have for years. Are you new to league or something?
He also wasn't permabanned because some teams thought they had a counter strategies like playing TF or Vayne against him, but at least with TF, most games I saw the team with TF not having enough damage or a front line and so K'Sante would just braum the fight.
Who knew that a Tank with more mobility than an assasin with immunity to cc and damage reduction behind 1 button can build full tank and convert those tank stats into AD to assasinate the backline while tanking 5 ppl was a good idea?
Oh yeah lets also give him Yasuos kit and kidnap enemy halfway across the screen to get out and a pull thats active every 3rd q.

The Issue with K'sante is that he is a good tank, with cc, resistence etc. that can choose at any point to become a killing machine and murder people.
This isn't like Gnar where you have to manage something to get the perfect timing, he just has to press a button and he goes from a wall to a very strong and mobile assassin... all while building tank items (which are usually more cost efficient than damage items).
It's a champion that can 1vs1 all the tanks and be a better frontline compared to a normal bruiser or an assassin.
Just remove his W unstopable in his all out form
He's a Skirmisher, not an assassin. Assassins can't 1v1 tanks. Also as of right now his issue is that his W is overloaded. On top of dealing a good chunk of dmg, he can block tons of damage and do whats basically an unstoppable Ornn E(Unless he gets cc'd right as he dashes). And it's not even the unstoppable that's an issue, since that can be played around. its that he gets so much damage reduction for no reason and the charge time is 1.5 seconds so he can absorb even more damage. It makes sense to have that as a skirmisher, since all skirmishers need a decisive defensive ability like that. But he doesn't need Irelia W as a tank, especially since the offensive capabilities of it are part of what makes him so good in tank form. reducing his W charge time and damage reduction would do wonders, especially in pro play

This 100%! Ksante is Gnar if Gnar didnt have to manage fury, and could do E into a minion to bounce into enemy team and do a 5 man R on demand while gaining massive damage.
The issue isn't his play pattern/overall design, it's his numbers being too good and a few problems. What they should do is remove his ability to kidnap people through walls - not only does he become a skirmisher with good damage, but he also isolates squishies from their team and gets to rip them apart without worrying about retaliation from their team members.
I mean the guy who made ksante is the same guy who did reworked skarner and smolder i believe, shows you the design goals

Smolder was so strong at one time that during a pro match the enemy team couldn't win bc of him, they had baron elder and were 1-2 ahead of him but while smolder was alive they couldn't end otherwise smolder would penta kill them and retake the game, they only manage to win bc he got caught off due to a missplay and them they won. K'Sante gets more ability haste after building tank..? And tanks are getting more CDR when new items drop? Someone at Riot wants to keep K'Sante buffed so they can stay in Gold.
Well not really, His q doesnt take ability haste. Instead it scales like yasuo or yone Q. But he uses armor and magic resist, so more stats the faster the q cd is. Either way its stupid. He doesnt actually need haste too much.
Ksante Q works like this: more armor/MR = lower Q's CD; more HP = faster Q casting time

Tanks were given more AH through "adjustments" (nerfs for most) to Sunfire items, and he scales terribly with AH. Even if he did like AH, Sunfire is already bad on him regardless, and the patch dropped 11 days ago.
You don't even have to make these contortions to insinuate that it's an insidious conspiracy because he was literally directly buffed this patch!

They made a MOBILE tank champion that scaled waaaay harder than any other Tank when stacking the same Armor/Magic Resis. Other tank becomes tankier while stacking but this champ on top of those gains haste & with more haste, he becomes a bruiser with tankiness of tank.
Then ..... the champ literally goes 7-0 in MSI after Play-Ins,
Yeap, a 5 game match with him in winning team every game plus another 2 game next team next day. 7-0 beast.
Even MLBB has hero that scales dmg with armor, but she's nowhere broken, she's decent at best.
yes.... Armor/Mr that he loses when he wants to deal damage... Try again. Also competitve doesn't play on recently updated servers, so all the nerfs K'sante gets is not reflected in pro play.

If anything my ideal tank in League is Ornn. Stacks evenly with any resis, bonus makes him more tanky, requires landing qwer correctly or need to back off & a pretty nice bonus upgrade touch to allies.
K'sante tho. Scales evenly across any resis & on top of that gains HASTE off it. Dude is slow early game but later on plays like Irelia with Xin Zhao ult but is a tank.

I played Camille for years and always relied on her late game to win games. K'Sante is legit the only tank who straight up just beats Camille no matter the itemization she has. He basically deals more damage and takes less too. The champ needs a rework.

I feel like among the relatively newer top champs, sett was the best design by far. No complex bs mechanics with 15 passives filled into 4 skills, no dashes, easy to understand and very strong
yeah, and he is giga boring to play? Ksante is actually fun to play despite him being so broken
I agree except for one issue. People keep finding ways to make a true damage one shot build with his w and it’s honestly really anti fun and unhealthy for the game. His w should probably be reworked in a way where the damage is capped even if you build only health because this build always pops up and gets him nerfed
@@localhobo5362 and sett is still one of the more balanced newer top laners because of how simple he is. Riot made Ksante because they wanted a new "high-skill" expression top laner but they fucking overtuned the shit out of him by making him scale on basically everything.

Typical problem in League is that they need to balance between pro play and the average player. In Plat Ksante has a 45.3% winrate and in masters a 48.1%, while in Pro play he goes 7/0 and completly obliterate games.

in other words he is hard to master, but once you do master him its basically GG win the game 1v5 into the team, grab the adc or other carry with ult combo and run to safety while finishing them off...
not counting even if it is a 1 for 1... enemy has to nuke you with skills that may or may not include one or two ultimates of their own meaning the 4v4 to come is advantageous in that enemy blew most their kit on K'sante...

And he's picked even more up in GM and Challenger as he has no bad matchups and basically either wins or neutralizes the lane given the player's mastery of him.

the problem with kisante is his over designed was so broken that no nerfs can stop him, he needs a total rework with new skills and passive and ulti bascially destroy the current one and rebuild him, and they wont do that since its lil nas creation in a sense for worlds
Swap his passive to deal Physical damage remove the dmg Immunity from his charge give it Strictly cc Immunity. Make the sheild on his other dash block only ad dmg.
Then up his bas numbers tell his in a ok spot.

@@D00ML0RD1no CC immunity, if he has so many dashes he doesn't deserve it, no CDR scalling off of resists. His ult should work like Poppy's dash and when he's all out he gets just little on hit dmg scalling magic dmg from MR and physical dmg from AD something up to 10% of bonus resists, no bonus AD, no scalling off of AD on abilities, no true damage and keeps current HP% so if he was at 50% of 4000 so 2000 goes to 50% of 2600 so 1300. That's all.

I agree that K'Sante is a problem. Though I want to point out quoting a WR without controlling for compounding factors is not accurate. If you look at K'Sante mains (50+ games played) WR from League of Graphs his WR is ~52%. The number is unlikely completely accurate but I think I've seen Riot stating that K'Sante mains also have an above 50% WR.
aside from what you said, Ksante shines in 5v5 team fights, and there far less controlled 5v5's in soloq, so he is less usefull, plus he is actually not easy to play. Aiming for 50% wr for him in soloq is not realistic
All mains have a >50% win rate. He should have a low win rate because he's newer and has a high skill floor, but he's not strong in solo queue.
I don't really get what you're trying to say since almost everyone has over 50% wr with their mains. also 52% for a main is prety low. andkind of off topic but I think you'd need more than 50 games to be considered a main on K'sante since he's a hard champ.
@@zoneshift K'Sante obviously takes skill so quoting a WR that doesn't bar out those with little to no experience playing the champ, which can greatly alters perception. K'Sante, if you main it and learn the champ, is a good to decent pick even in solo queue.
The only stat that I can find that takes into account champion winrates by experience is from League of Graphs accounting for 50+ games played, however accurate it is, it is all I can find with such a parameter. K'Sante is in the middle of the pack for 50+ game experience which could be construed as a bad thing since his skill ceiling is relatively high and only 50 games isn't that much, as you said.
As of now, K"Sante's with 50+ games played have gone up to ~54%. According to LoG the highest 50+ game experience champ by WR is ~65% and the lowest is ~44%, that's why I am stating that the accuracy is somewhat questionable but its the only thing I can find so I'm just gonna go with it for now until I can find something more tangible.
We can all agree, I think, that mains will pretty much allows have a higher average WR on their respective champ than the pure WR.
Your observation is correct and it's why Ksante is so strong in elite play.
His skill floor is *very* high. You need to both know his kit inside out and the matchups to know how to play against everything.
Similarly to say, Azir, he's one of those champions who only shines on people that have elite-level gameplay and are willing to put hundreds of games into him to learn.
Which is also where the balance problem comes: if you nerf him further, he drops to unplayable in soloqueue while barely hanging on 50% in elite play. If you *dare* to buff him for soloq, he's invincible in elite/proplay.
Unfortunately, he needs an actual kit rework. Not numbers change, kit rework. Otherwise, he'll stay as the Azir or Ryze of toplane, 35% winrate in soloq, broken in proplay.
To be honest I feel this way about tanks in general - I feel like so many tanks have insane ammount of dmg despite building full tank and the only way to deal with them is somehow keep your distance which is sometimes really hard when they have some sort of thing like malph ult, ghost, jumps, etc. but it´s true that new champs usually have overloaded kits that just allow them to do too much - I dont mind tanks doing some dmg but I think they shouldnt have the ability to 100-0 in 4 seconds, thats an assasins job not tank´s

I feel like it all went downhill in champion design department when Aphelios got released, until then champions had personality and memorable iconic kits that focus on one thing, after that all the new champions are just stuffed with 10 hidden passives, 20 different synergies and ofc every possible tool in the game: high mobility, high dmg, some type of shield/ dmg reduction, gap closers etc.
New champs just lost their charm, i used to learn the new champs on day one bcs they had simple but logical kits, now i can't be bothered bcs there's 20 different little things hidden in their kits...
Imo the champ that really broke everything was Yasuo. If you go back in LoL history, I think that’s the point where Riot really found out how much money “flashy and cool” made instead of your simple stuff. Especially when “flashy and cool” could be piloted by a high schooler and still get huge impact.
Aphelios was the grand culmination of “Riot does not know how to make healthy kit designs” with his one shot AOE ult on release, but Yasuo just broke like 6 different league staples from his kit. Windwall, CDR with attack speed, crits on an ability, consistent CC during scraps and teamfights, dashes based on enemies in the area instead of a CD, an auto-based melee that had a great teamfighting ult, and stat modifiers in his passive, and a passive shield.
This champ is over 10 years old.
Yasuo feels like a champ you could release now and say “another overloaded champ smh” when the benchmark for it was like Thresh.
@@VVheeli It's a slippery slope, for me it's Illaoi, she was the first champ where people were actually like, "lol, why the fuck is her passive like 3 paragraphs long". Sadly, Illaoi seems simple now compared to newer champs.
This mentality was solidified when Jhin came out, the SECOND champ with an obnoxious amount of text in his passive. Despite the numbers being complex, Jhin was at least intuitive, you didn't need to read all that shit unless you really wanted to theory craft, you just needed to count to four. Jhin was cool, because of his success Riot designers started buying their own bullshit and getting in a dick waving contest with each other to make the dumbest champ possible.
Seriously, if you want to see how dysfunctional their team is, go look at Fizz's patch history, scroll to 9.14, and look at the hotfix war two devs had over his useless passive. It's both hilarious and sad.
@@VVheeli for me it was Zoe. Oneshot from 2 screens away, 0 counterplay if she managed to bubble you, usually from fog. The sad part is that anyone who decided to main her and bought skins for her is now stuck with a complete lemon of a champ that is never allowed back into the meta. Riot sells the fantasy of game balance, but they've broken that trust for years now, all in the name of Tencent shareholder profit.

if u look back, league champs actually lost their charm quite a bit earlier imo. Around 2016-2017 era you see a huge spike of toxic champs and toxic abilities being released. thats when the game got really unbalanced and crazy, thats the turning point for me. thats the time where champs like camille, zoe,ornn,kayne came out. Lots of these champs might not seem too crazy now but they were so game breaking at the time, i remember when camille first came out, her ult was so completely broken vs adc champs, and ornn was one of the first tank assasins that had op lane phase and scaled to the moon. Zoe was basically old nidalee but on steroids and she would just one shot u from fog of war, and kayne could just go through large walls and one shot you and warding didnt matter.
i would say 2016-2017 was really where champ quality fell off and stuff started to get unhealthy.
Ksante Just has the issues every new champ has. Their supposed weaknesses are always nonissues. In ksante's case, he's supposed to deal low dmg in tank form and be squishi in all out form, in reality he deals too much dmg by default and is still tanky in all out form.

K'sante is gnar done wrong, and gnar is another champion that needs to be kept on the weak side too. Gnar can go to a ranged champion with solid damage and below average survivability to a solid juggernaut with a really good engage but you have to manage his passive to get the value. Ksante is an amazing tank with solid damage and cc that BY PRESSING A BUTTON can isolate a target and become an high mobility bruiser with good survivability and good damage. If gnar wants to do damage he has to sacrifice mega's form tankiness and he is basically a weaker adc in mini, and if he wants to tank he has to rely on w passive damage alone and deals 0 damage in mega and his kit is still considered too good to be viable and the only upside he has over ksante is that his cc on ult is aoe(but it is basically worse qyiana ult), see the problem?

Riot is just inching how much power creep they could add into the game.
It already went downhill when they added hp % true damage, like no way they could create any interesting champ other than make it absurdly stronger than what true damage can give out.

While you do touch on K'sante being bad in soloQ but insane in pro play, you spend the majority of the time talking about Proplay and using clips from season 13
while... kind of just representing them as current K'sante? Most of the things he does in this clips is just no longer possible. But, the phrasing, the editing? Makes it seem like he can.
Likewise the language is just, so extremely definitive that he is the problem. He is a problem, he is a large problem. But you even said yourself: Lane swapping, champions that can do alot with very little. It is the style of proplay to favour safe and "dominating" that dictates everything.
Finally, Phreak has recently come out (a few days before the publishing of this video) saying he's going to be taking a new approach in reworking K'sante, admitting he cannot be balanced for both pro and SoloQ and the direction they've been taking for the past half year is nonviable. It would've been nice to end the vid with atleast a mention to that.
But I know being overly animated with hyperbole thumbnails and titles makes you money so, I can't be that harsh. Do what you do man, you eat well from it.

K'sante is broken but really fun to play tho. Actually, I returned to league and play till now because of Ksante interesting kit. Once getting addicted to his playstyle, it's really hard to get satisfied with other champs.

Tbh I think his low variance is what makes him so strong atm in pro play in, as mentioned, a meta that is highly volatile by League standards.
I think only removing the unstoppability on his W and reducing the distance he travel with R in walls to Ekko E1 level would help a ton in creating ways to punish him in fights and not render risk-taking champions like Draven and Vayne completely useless by removing any sort of peel they need in teamfights

Solo Queue stomper can deal with him (Riven, Darius,..) but they're not pro play viable because their kit is lack luster and provide minimum to their team. While K'sante with 2 items can provide so much space for his team while pressuring enemy's back-line because he has 3 dashes and 3 knock-ups/stuns so he stays relevant no matter what.

I think Ksante might be the worst designed Champion in the game, even worse than yuumi. There are a lot of high skill ceiling champions that have to stay at low WR in SoloQ because they would take over professional play but none compares to Ksante. There is not a single Champion in the Game that can do that much even when behind. He got released 18 Month ago and he has been a problem for all this time. He got like 5 small reworks trying to shift his power around but he still is a huge problem because they dont wanna delete meaningful stuff from his kit. It feels like they dont wanna admit that they made a mistake like they did with yuumi but they wont be able to make him viable in SoloQ without him absolutely destroying professional. We see what he does at 45% WR. He might be the champion in the game that feels most unfair to play against and he keeps binding capacitys that could rework other champions because they instead have to come up with ways he could work without basically changing anything meaningful. He got changed (appeared in patch notes) in 18 patches in 18 months. Thats like every other patch rito is changing him. I dont think there is a single other champion that can nearly reach this presence (technically smolder has been changed in every patch but one since his release, lets see if he will keep that pace)

The biggest red flags that a champion is not just too strong, but WAY too strong:
- Their win-rate spikes high in the short term, then falls below 50% in the long term. (mains finish climbing)
- They have a high pick/ban rate despite the negative win-rate. (so strong they get first-timed if not banned)
- They have a high ELO presence but not much of a low ELO presence. (even the worst players can climb on them)
K'Sante is the most "way too strong" champion RIOT has ever produced. Even Samira at her most broken did not see those locking her in inflate their ELO to the point where she began to see a negative win-rate despite being strong. Even Yone, Ekko, Fizz, and other high damage champions with a free escape button do not approach K'Sante's levels of damage + unkillable. (Yone does in fact come pretty close though; arguably he's the 2nd most over-tuned champion atm.)
What troubles me most is that I notice a lot of "secret tech" in how K'Sante can be built that players haven't even discovered yet. Even if nerfed, he's going to get much much stronger as players discover these things. He needs nerfed in a pretty major way. It isn't healthy for the game to have an unkillable tank with repositioning, cc, and damage all in one kit. Some of that is fine... but all of it at once is not.
Yone got out of hand with the old BOTRK + Hullbreaker + Lethal Tempo setup. With old Hull + Lethal gone, Yone is now in dumpster tier xD

Sure K'sante is a little unbalanced when it comes to pro play, i just dont get 1 thing, easiest way to make something work in lower elo and not as much in higher elo is give it scaling at cost of worse early game. Why not just buff him late so he wont be that bad in soloq, but nerf his ealry so he wont be that opresive in pro play, and by nerfing him i dont mean like less tanky or deal less dmg, i mean for example give him possibility of r thorugh walls after lvl 11 or Q increases its range by leveling it up. Ksante tankiness and damage is FINE. its his kit which is toxic. and note: ONLY IN PRO PLAY. Everytime i try to play this champ, unless im really ahead im just playing without R in teamfights. K Snate is the new ryze in lol in 2024 his broken in pro play but worse in solo Q play
His ass winrate in soloqueue comes from the fact that he has no engage and is all peel, disengage and cleanup. This makes him much harder to be useful in solo queues, but makes him broken in coordinated team play. He is THE front-to-back tank.
You should just remove the whole transformation. Let him kidnap people with ult, but take away everything else. This would lower the skill ceiling and make him much more predictable to deal with.

Because he's not an early game threat, nor is he oppressive in a sense where he's untouchable. Teams ban around Junglers who give huge early priority to lanes that can work with little income, such as Sej, Vi or Xin. Mid carries who have extremely high presence around the map, Asol or Taliyah. Or around botlanes who are unplayable to match against in lane like double adc or kalista and Renata. Top lane is a much less volatile lane that wins and loses less due to how isolated it is. If mid wins u get more control of objectives or if bot wins its two champs who get fed and not just one.

@@dommekip6 no. This kinda shows you don’t understand the game as a whole. Pro teams pick champs that are innately safe, and consistent while also fulfilling a role within the team. Volatile champions that requires a lead to be useful are much less preferred because of how fast games can get turned around if they fall behind. The champions I’ve shown are picked and ban because of how fast and consistent they are in getting the team ahead whether it be through map control and movement or hard reliable cc on the main damage dealers.
I highly recommend you to watch Caedrel if you want to learn the intricacies of the game.

His Q no longer slows during ult.
His E is extremely slow dash now.
His W cant stun during ult, and it has to wait max channel time.
Modern Ksante is a shallow form of what the champion was during release. He’s just a toplaner tank that hardly accomplishes what an assassin can do 5 times better.
All modern League balancing problems boil down to the fact that these new champs have 100 word essays in their skill descriptions. Every single one of them. Skarner, K'sante, Akshan, list goes on and on.

He is the tank Yasuo/yone. His Q is a copy and paste with the scalings changed to tank stats.

K'Sante more/less proves if your skilled at a busted champion, you carry games. Looking at Yone, Yasuo, Riven, and so on of times past.

Riot's ability to listen to the community is of a deafman. In PBE, we had multiple occasions where we found bugs, or something broken. Let's go back to Galio's rework. Galio in PBE was a monster, he was tanky and his Q could 100-0 tanks and squishes alike. Reduction to damage was all time high. This made Galio the best tank and assassin in the game, FOR MONTHS. This was found out on day one too. People make comments in the PBE forum, RUclipsrs talked about how broken PBE Galio was and wanted RIOT to fix it. Yet, nothing, they released Galio the way it was and it was a disaster. People had to ban Galio because he was beyond boosted. He could 1v5 and kill everyone in mere seconds.
Thisi s RIOT's ability to listen. They don't, RIOT is a stubborn company that thinks they know better than people in expert in simple, basic math. Because one quick look, it just took that to realized Galio was boosted, but RIOT thought they knew better. When an elementary kid can figure this out, it tells you how up their own ass RIOT is. I'm sorry to say this, but they really, REALLY, need to realized they are not perfect. They make mistakes, and worst, this is simple math mistakes. It's like they hired a bunch of people who hated math, or maybe if they see anyone good in math they drop them in the transaction team.

The issue with Ksante is that he can have only 1 ad and still be able 5o kill anyone in a 1v1 because he can permanently cc lock anyone. And then, while he locks down 1 champ making it impossible for them to attack, he has enough armor/Mr and enough shielding to survive while an entire enemy team attacks him while he picks them off one at a time
