This is one of the best videos ever. Right up there with Preach's series in legion for the various roles. I just jumped into healing for the first time midway through 8.3 and I'm loving it but until this week was always anxious. I watch your videos over and over to gain insight into the way to think through a dungeon. I appreciate the hard work and love the videos and knowledge you've gained during your time.

As a tank player, myself, having to take the second part of BFA off for business reasons, coming back to the game felt a bit overwhelming.
It's videos and content like this that I like consuming to catch up to speed and also recommend to the people I start playing with to get them up to speed and see who is serious and who is not.

Good tips overall. One I'd add, more for dps, is practice your rotation on training dummies until you can do your rotation nearly perfect with your eyes closed. The less attention you have to pay to your basic rotation, the easier it is to do mechanics, get interrupts, pull saving CC, etc. The #1 problem I see when I do keys with newer/lower IO players is they spend way too much of their focus just doing dps.

great optimistic video. I really wanted to work into M+ healing BFA. really wanted to, but running with guildies that wanted to go higher than i was yet comfortable, then a series of bad pug experiences, and I collapsed back into my hesitation, then bailed. i realize i need to have much thicker skin and all, but its a challenge. folks can be so harsh, but really, its on me to find ways to suck it up, and work through that.

What I really like about your videos is how you entangle "hard" facts that are necessary to learn with soft skills like mindsets. A lot of player struggle with these especially and having the right mindset also makes it easier to learn and get better and meet nice people. Although I do think this is easier said from a point of 7k rio where you already "made it", it is still helpful and crucial advice to not lose your mind during the random grind or when you've just spent 2 hours applying and getting declined.

"Record yourself" is the greatest advice ever
You may also add "Record AND watch everything". Not just the biggest pull where you did sick DPS and because of that want to relive the moment. Even routine and somewhat "unremarkable" parts of a run may offer great many insights for improvement once watched back. When you're doing a key and you're in the moment tunnel vision is real thing. It's astonishing how one may straight up not see a really important thing going on right in front of one's nose. Watching recordings certainly helps to not miss it the next time

    • @Elrohir68
      @Elrohir68 3 года назад +1

@Chris Dean exactly, it's a game, it's fun, and improving is fun so why not take this advice for what it is : a way to improve yourself if you want to ? You don't have to but that's a great way to learn from your mistakes. If you feel it becoming a job more than a hobby then take a step back and keep playing the way you like .

    • @mlilac

"do keys even when it's not an upgrade". As someone who went through the WHOLE of BFA only plugging (being a tank class really helped, even if non meta class) this is really important.
While Im almost traumatised with the amount of crap I took from random ppl, it's also how, by the end of 8.3, I've met a really fun and good team who had just lost their usual tank and were looking for another one.
It wasn't a key upgrade for me (but also not a trivial key for my ability), but I went because I liked the dungeon. It went so smooth that I took the then empty spot.
So, yeah, puggers of the world: for every thousand of disaster runs, there's always that good one 😁

    • @Evija3000

Speaking about it from the skill angle, in the beginning I kept running M2-4 dungeons just to learn the dungeons, my abilities, improve keybinds, etc and then I could just jump to M 7-9 (as a healer) with no issues. Doing the low runs wasn't a visible upgrade, but still quite useful.
Oh, and I also got into a nice WoW discord group for helping out a returning player on low M+ :)

Excellent content! I subbed just because of the ‘bench’ comments. I’ve never heard that mentioned before and I’ve seen it negatively impact MANY players (even myself) over the years. It shows an empathy towards others that isn’t shown as often as it should.
I haven’t done a single Mythic Shadowlands dungeon yet, but that is mainly because I just came back to the game. I’ve just returned to the game after the longest break since WoW started. (I quit literally a few days before BFA launch even though I had pre purchased the expansion). I had alpha and beta access to BFA and I guess all those changes allowed me to see “behind the curtain” if you will.
Come to think of it, it’s the longest break I have taken since I started playing MMOs back in May 2000 with EQ. Yeah, yeah I know, OG...

Love the vid Yumytv! I posted it in my guild's mythic+ guide channel :)
I could see also added something like: 1) Don't join a 10+ key if you are not familiar with the dungeons base mechanics (interrupt, spell steal, heal, tank tactics etc.), leading to a second point: 2) every member is equally important, I find when you have one weak link in the team then it almost always fails. That said, aiming again on mechanics mostly. It ruins the run for those who did do the prep work (practise, reading up etc.) if you join and don't have a clue. Well would be curious what your thoughts are on those points.

Totally agree, i do keys for fun in pug runs all the time, and sometimes u land that fun as fk run that sticks with ya memory.
Those runs can be both smooth runs and failed runs, the important part is having the patience with the nutjobs and being excited to find the fun people :).
I can do some of the "hardest" content in the game, but that should not sway away from doing lesser content to meet new people.
Coz the game is really not fun playing alone, it's an mmorpg after all and Fun is what its all about when you crunch it down.
Also do not judge players for their mistakes, everyone does them and it is how u improve the fastest and push your limits.
Everyone has a different learning curve, accept that fact.
Approach people with kindness even in times of failure and u will most likely meet someone that just had a bad run/ day, and usually play better.
In the pug world, give people the benefit of the doubt .

For someone who started WoW not so long ago, your tips are pretty much spot on. I'm gonna recommend your channel to a couple of friends who's planning to start WoW in SL, great job.
The 3rd one took me along time since I first started WoW a long time ago to finally do, and it's one of the biggest difference between lower IO runners and the top 1K. Never blame others for wipes, ever. Always start with thinking with what you could've done differently, even if you think nothing you could've done matters. This single mindset change alone brought me up from my usual 'pleb' ratings to one of the higher spot for Druids.

Get better in M+? I just want TO DO an M+. I request to join groups, I'm either denied right away or I sit there until the group is delisted. I start my own group and I get nada. I've tried on my favorite 3 class/specs: Ret Pally, Frost DK and Destro Lock. And we're talking about M+3 or M+5, not M+15. It seems there's way too much elitism when it comes to mythics and if you don't have your own group you run with regularly or have the perfect class/spec/achievements you're going to get snubbed. I've been playing since TBC and back then I was into every aspect of the game. We raided every week, but we also ran speed clears of heroic dungeons against our own guild. It was super competitive and fun and we always wished Blizz would make a harder mode of dungeons but that didn't come until way after my guild fell apart and everyone moved on with their lives. In MoP when the transmog sets were introduced for Gold clears, I tried so damn hard to get a group to run them with, but it was like pulling teeth. It seemed like all I did when I had time to play was try to get into mythics. Now I've stopped giving a shit, but Blizz seems to be putting more and more effort into making M+ be a parallel path to getting the best gear if you don't want to raid. I'm all for it, but damn these people are bad about judging books by their cover.

Hey growl, just wanted to come back to say this video helped a lot. I came back from WOD/legion to SL S3 not knowing what m+ even was. I got KSM in S4 and now KSH and looking to push 3k io for DF S2.
Also wanted to say I would be highly interested in tips video for really high keys. Like how to approach above 20 keys mentally. What your process is like for dissecting a 23 when you don't know what's exactly ideal yet. How do you analyze yourself when you don't know the answer yet is it just trial and error? That sort of stuff. Moreso the process of understanding high keys.
Anyways thanks for the awesome content as always :D

A great number of us have been playing since 2005 and evolved with the game. It’s a time investment. If you want high io, you have to sacrifice time and money. I love my guild. We have pushed keys and I’ve gotten in good pug groups too. I just don’t have all day to play like when I was 16. Thanks for helping the new guys out.

Hi! I liked what you said about the damage and how it all matters. As a resto shaman, I feel as if I could be doing more damage but Im not certain how to approach it. Usually, I try to keep flame shock, lava burst, and chain lightning in the rotation as much possible. Any tips?
Is there a significant difference in the potential damage output from different healer specs? Say, holy paladin vs resto shaman?

i've played this game for 14 years with many long breaks and i would like to make a point if u dont mind.
It is really importand to stick with a class and master it no matter if u do pve or pvp.
you can play and enjoy alts ofcourse, but you should focus on one thing for a very specific reason i found out after many years.
while i was doing mythic raid progress as an MM hunter back to legion i found out that after a point i was not looking at my buttons anymore just some glims at glowing procs.
the thing is it was not that i did not care about damage as you may think, i became so accurate with any possible combat scenario that i memorized all cooldowns and possible rotations, so all i had to focus was on awareness and mechanics.
this was extremely importand for such an imobile spec back then, in order to maximize perfomance and stay alive.
Imagine being a healer and trying to look both at cooldowns, healthbars and suroundings. if u are not familiar with the spec/class you are bound to make mistakes and is completely normal because you try to do 3 things at the same time or in fairly short time between them.
So a good UI,COMFORTABLE key bindings for Every spell and good knowledge of what you play will transform you as a player.
If u struggle with all these dont worry just take your time learn and enjoy.but dont expect this to happen anyime soon if u play monday warrior, tuesday priest etc, if u are on a learning curve..
Please dont misunderstand me i dont try flex here, i just want to say that knowledge experience and practice are the keys in order to enjoy wow at its fullest.
I am always happy to see newer players evolve so fast and become great.

Wow, I need to bookmark this one. Awesome video dude. I've been wanting to push into M+ this expansion, having never really messed with it much before. I'll admit though, your video makes me a little nervous about choosing an off-meta class. I was hoping to do a lot of tanking and dps'ing on my druid. I am now feeling like I may need to switch to mostly going resto, at least at first...which is fine, as I love druid healing as well. Maybe I'm being a little paranoid about that though. I don't mind much that there are players who will scoff at bringing a druid to tank or dps, so maybe I'll just put up with the stigma and find a crew that doesn't mind.

    • @shred403
      @shred403 3 года назад +1

As of right now Guardian druids are looking pretty good and theres always a shortage of tanks, so even the off spec tanks usually dont have problems finding groups. Also the meta isnt usually finely tuned in the first season after an expansion. Resto druids looking good too though!

6:50 It's important to think note how much easier certain boss mechanics can become with high DPS, especially on Tyrannical weeks. Tidesage Council in SoTS, Vol'kaal in Atal, and Galvazzt in ToS are really good examples. They become unhealable at a certain point.
Also, bosses that have timers on certain abilities. Vol'zith in SoTS has such a long interim phase that it can sometimes determine if you time or not.

    • @antarath517
      @antarath517 3 года назад

To all my healer bois out there, dealing dps might also be your most mana efficient route. The sooner x dies, the less mana you're spending healing. If you're in a non-stressful part of the fight, try dropping a few dps spells in.
Eventually, you'll learn when you can and can't drop in a few hits, even when it might seem dangerous.

The weirdest thing to me about your comment was that you know the boss names. Other than a couple I usually just refer to them by a characteristic. Totem boss, last boss, 3rd boss, sharknado guy, ... I do know Rezan (because there were debates about if we were going Rezan first or left pull 1st for lust) but really know very few actual boss names. And it's not because I haven't run many keys - according to my BFA review thing on raider.io I've run 1403 keys this xpac, I just never bothered to learn their names. Then again, I don't remember street names either so maybe I'm just weird.

very informative and good video! allthought i do have a question: how do you deal with tyrannical weeks? for most part it feels like people refuse to do dungeons on tyrannical weeks, especielly when there is really nasty affixes like necrotic and bolstering. Is there a way to motivate people to do keys in despite of this? I was pushing a bit in BFA (only got to +19s done with pugs, didnt have a dedicated team) and even then for example most people werent too hyped about trying to push during tyrannical weeks. any advice or thoughts on this?

Bench time is also important time because it can give others an opportunity to grow that they might not have had if you never sat out. Its extremely important to Mythic raiding to cycle more than just 20 players.

One tipp that id like to throw in is play pvp(arena/duels) at times with a friend. Not serious just to learn a bit more about how your class works, how to use some defenses and get better at it. I know the "kick spells" 0.5sec bootcamp with my old raidleader (duels) was probably the best way to really learn when to kick and when not to.
