      DPS players are the single most incompetent group of people in existence. Facts. Yet, any wipe is the healer's fault. Also facts (apparently :) )

    #11 if you get aggro run to the tank not away from the tank
    -addition to healing too early with using externals, throwing external on tanks that pull massive is a good way to not heal too early and still help with tank sustain - plus any speed boosts you can give tank while gathering is super helpful and won’t aggro

    I would like to add a tenth point if possible 😂. Many healers worry too much about contributing dps and this leads them to fall behind with healing. Doing dps is fun and helps to stay active during the key, but it is not strictly essential for the key to close in time. There are times when it is not possible to do this, or rather, it is more appropriate to concentrate more on healing and that is fine. Keeping the party alive is way more valuable than doing minimal damage that and risking having teammates die. By this I don't mean or imply that doing dps as a healer is completely useless or wrong, but don't do it at the cost of healing, in that case second is inting

      And that, also #3 reason is why I play discipline. 😁

    As a new healer who used to be mister "go-go-go!" DPSer, complacency is my #1 problem when healing. Not reacting to (or knowing about) damage spikes. Getting bored when there's no damage taken, only to snap out of my DPS rotation too late when suddenly a lot of damage occurs. It's a different way to play that takes some getting used to.

    Otherwise, the biggest tip I can give:
    Play like EVERYTHING wants to kill your group, including the tank and the DPS.

    Old healer main here, completely agree with a lot of what you are saying. For me, when I was new and catweaving was the thing you did I found it scary to be so close to the mobs and I can imagine others sometimes feel that way when going into melee as well as a caster for damage or cc. Just random thought why some newer healers might hesitate. Also going over to playing more dps I find healers who just stand there and not contributing with either damage or cc when there is less damage going out to really be buds that are about to bloom. Just want them to get over that hurdle because I bet a ton of them would do even better if they got into the always be casting mindset

    good stuff! when I started healer role back in WOTLK, through out the game i was like doing every mistake you mentioned :) but, yea, now I learned :)
    Also, I think the most important is to get blame-immunity especially in pugs :) ibrealle improved in healing when I stopped caring if ppl are alive or not xD I mean that anxiety coming from blaming can really ruin gameplay, so remember its game and its for fun :)

    Details has a plugin that shows "avoidable damage taken" and it reaaaaally shows you the good things. People taking avoidable damage, nothing better than this to show them why they die. Healers can't keep people alive if they actively try to die.

    Using things on cooldown as grad advice grow. It may seem like a waste at first, but you start to learn exactly when or the moments that it does fucking nothing at all.. It gives you a real sense of when exactly the cone is providing you value.
    Pair with trying to finish as high-level as you can without using your major cool downs you’re really gonna grow as a healer

  • @coryp6868
    @coryp6868 3 месяца назад +4

    Not only a healer mistake for externals, but a major DPS mistake is slamming your defensive at 10% hp and thinking you did all you could to live. 100% fortified hp is more durable than 10% fortified hp. And there's no argument for "but what if you waste it for nothing" because 1) if you're good, you're certain the damage is coming and 2) you're still alive which is the goal
    Best tip to dps players is use personals for heavy ticking bleeds. These put a ton of pressure on heals (unnecessarily) once you're above a +5.

    Season 4 of SL was the first season I was good enough to heal a double digit key and I remember being so excited and proud of myself. I went from KSM being a fever dream and not being able to comprehend how people did 15s at all to now knowing with 100% certainty I'll be getting KSM in 2 weeks and KSH in 3 weeks from SL S4 to DF S4. Instead of hoping I can maybe claw out 2k rating by the end of the season, I'm pushing my self to try and get 2k in one week. Now I can somewhat comfortably do 21s and 22sSome may find that slow. Some may find 21s and 22s (11 and 12 in the current scaling) as still low keys, but for me I'm proud of my accomplishments and my progress from just 1 expansion to the next. I started playing during BfA and I didn't even really understand what M+ was back then.
    My biggest piece of advice for people getting into healing, is to focus on your own progress and not let the toxicity of many other members of the WoW community deter you. Set your own goals and be proud of yourself when you accomplish them. You've never done a +5 before and just timed your first one? Be excited about that, who cares if someone else thinks it's a super low key. The beauty of M+ is that unlike raids, the difficulty is infinite. Everyone has a ceiling that they can always push themselves against to get better. Your ceiling is your ceiling. Worry about yours and be happy when you succeed in raising it. Comparison is the thief of joy.

    The biggest thing is to learn the dungeons. Know when abilities happen, know what they do and approximately how much damage they do. For example if youre doing a boss with a big AoE phase, but you know that the AoE does about 300k damage to your party, you know that you only have to make sure that everyone is above 300k when the ability is about to go out, so you dont waste mana spam healing your ret paladin at 50% hp with 500k hp, when your mage is at 60% hp with only 300k.

    1. There are addons/wa that lets you see your party's cooldown/defensives so you can time yours accordingly and use them properly.
    2. Interrupting/CCing means less damage going around which means less healing to do and more time to damage.
    3. There's a saying from Brad Pitt's character from World War Z "movement is life, those who stop moving die" - keep moving, keep dodging.

    Some good healer tips. Def take advantage of your classes utility and use them in dungeons for big trash packs..... interrupts, aoe stuns, knockbacks, cc like hex, or whatever. It helps alot to slow incoming damage and give u some time to top people up. I play shaman, most Enhance (melee dps) but heal as Resto too so I love to take advantage of stuff like wind shear ranged interrupt to stop casters for a big dmg spell or heal, or hex an enemy off to the side or even just for a second to stop a cast or keep it from doing damage. I also have the problem of holding my healer or defensive CD's too much, if u have a 1, 2, 3 min cd then take advantage of it often cause if u use it for one trash pack it will prob be up and ready in a few min for the next pack. I have the habit of thinking to wait till emergencies and the last minute when I thnk I really need it, but that could mean u might not use it for 10 min when in those 10 min u could have gotten 2-3 uses out of that bigger CD and made things easier for u overall during that time.... but still have it for that big aoe pack or boss fight in 10 min. Its hard to break that habit of saving CD's for emergencies, but using cd's consistently as heals, tank, or dps will help in the long run.

  • @eviltim3786
    @eviltim3786 3 месяца назад +17

    I think the main group breaking issue that simply permeates pugs at all level of keys is that there are simply too many people underutilizing their defensives and/or sustain that blizzard have mistakenly given all the classes at this point. So many people are only concerned on the surface level pushing of their damaging buttons and they screw up even in that regard. I like healing but I don’t want to continue if the only people who get to at least enjoy it somewhat are those either lucky enough to be able to play all day everyday or those who are even luckier than that to find those with similar enough play times as well as appropriate roles to consistently have a better well communicated dungeon experience and perplexingly enough the answer from blizzard to all of this is make the general experience harder??

    • @eviltim3786
      @eviltim3786 3 месяца назад +1

      Just btw before any replies come in. This is coming from someone who has at least pugged KSM…. All I’m saying is that content feels way better if I’m not having to construct complex conditions to schedule times when I and others will play just to get +10’s done to actually get the loot that matters.
      I’ll say it till I’m blue, wow was and can be better when there isnt so much layered nonsense to engaging with the high end of the game.

    • @andrew-hf9fl
      @andrew-hf9fl 3 месяца назад +1

      I will say, and not to be rude, but ksm is an extremely modest goal, even while pugging. The damage going out is moderate enough that a healer actually Can save people from their own mistakes a lot of the time. Sure, you'll pug with some stinkers from time to time, but if you find groups with appropriate io for the key you're doing, you should have little problem achieving your goals. As the old saying goes 'if you run into one stinker, they might be a stinker. If you run into ten stinkers...you might be the stinker' haha

    • @eviltim3786
      @eviltim3786 3 месяца назад +1

      @@andrew-hf9fl I mean I don’t think it’s pushing it to say that healers can’t just save “mistakes” these days people pretty much just die when that happens even in lower keys and while I admit that KSM isn’t the highest goal for keys I do still get 10’s done and the problem with io’s is that I’ve been in the grp where peoples io’s were supposedly commensurate with the key (this particular time it was a 10 I attempted to pug) and surprise surprise the dps don’t interrupt/stun/press defensives. I guess I also should have said that things would be better if healers did have more power than they currently have in saving people because it is an issue to balance the in take of damage around perfect play rather than allowing for those mistakes to happen and be healable because broadly speaking, especially in pugs, they almost certainly are not.

    • @eviltim3786
      @eviltim3786 3 месяца назад

      @@andrew-hf9fl and you are right I’m not the best healer by far but I do more than well enough to get the job done and regardless of what CAN be done if people who have been playing a decently long enough time are demotivated than what do you think new players are feeling? Kind of why the game struggles to grow.

    Healer main here since TBC, if for whatever reason you pulled something or aggro somehow shifts to you, RUN TO THE TANK. Your tank will appreciate this because they don't have to move and will easily pickup aggro off you with their next AOE available. The DPS also can focus on unloading their abilities in the trash pack.
    Also, as an added skill, your character doesn't need to be facing anything for it to heal correctly unless there is a LOS mechanic. Just be within range and cast away. You can always turn your camera around if you need to see something. It's weird but it works well.

    The healing too early is a common problem as I play druid and if the tank is pulling as soon as they can, they likely still have hots on them. So pulling early threat is a common occurrence. Some work arounds for this can be to mass entangle if it is a group bunched up that is coming for you, or more commonly if there isn't a tank cleave I need to worry about I just dash in, stack on the tank and warstomp (I am tauren) as mobs get close, then I get out.

    As is healer pretty much ever since I can say: healers are there to compensate for the incompetence of the group.
    Best example for this: I had a tank warrior lately who was matched with two of his bodies and he honestly nearly never used his cds not even his absorb... After several deaths and not changing his playstyle they left because "I'm a bad healer" ... a few minutes later, same dungeon different tank and we were flying...
    Furthermore on how to do better: Back when the TBC Classic servers were live I replayed that and joined a friends raid group pretty late and somewhat undergeared. Also, since I didn't play the usual heal druid build but a balance/heal build I was kinda laughed at even by the raid lead. First raid SSC and I outhealed their best druid even after giving him my mana cd...
    What I want to say is 1) don't always relay on meta builds if you can do better for yourself in a different way of playing and 2) don't let yourself be judged before you even had a chance to deliver. Just move on in that case.

    on the point of keeping mana topped you have to factor timmy Big pulls who has no chill and dps gremlins that seem to enjoy tab targeting and say woops after i have to blast them with heals because they stand in damn near everything .

    10: not dealing damage as a healer. Some people just stand around when everyone is healthy lol

    On the topic of not healing too early there's a lot of specs that have HoT or buffs on the tank that will do it automatically anyway. Mistweaver renewing mist and shaman earth shield being the worst offenders.
    Honestly I feel in the current version of wow if the tank hasn't tagged all mobs quickly they are not doing their job (outside of hyper synced high level teams obviously). Most every tank has access to a decent amount of aoe to at least tag mobs once.

      I believe if you apply the hot before the tank starts pulling it will not draw aggro. At least that's what I saw mentioned in a previous video and it appeared to be true the few times I've managed to try it on body-aggro pulls.

      @@rhysbytAs far as I can tell, this is correct. I'll usually throw a shield and hot on my tanks before a pull, and it doesn't seem to give me aggro. (Disc priest)

    Popping a defensive on pull is a nice thing for the tank as they are at their weakest when pulling.

    Honestly I feel like a major point should be focusing too much on damage. While damage is important, making sure your team can live first is the top priority

    Healer lacking is much more obvious than DD lacking - because you see it directly at the health bar or death.
