This is still a ways out from meaning much to the game, I imagine. Definitely not this year, and maybe possibly a small amount next year. As always, though, don't believe it until you see it.

My end game is to retire on a cliff overlooking a small lake somewhere in the Pyro system. I will craft craft-beer, fine linens, and paint landscapes. I will have a dog named “pyro” (or a species very similar to a dog ). In the morning, I will write poetry and meditate. Around noon, I will start drinking my craft beer. Around afternoon, “pyro” and I will get into my Cyclone and go hunting for meat and fur (fur for the fine linens). Around dusk, I will wake up in a grass field drunk and with no meat or fur. Pyro will guide me back home. At night I will sing songs of memories past, then I’ll pass out again and dream of how I lost my Kraken in a game of poker. :)

Setting up a base in the remote reaches of a system and becoming the best widget crafter in the verse is my end goal.
I’ll go out and mine the resources I need, purchase what I can’t source on my own and then craft and tune whatever system I end up deciding on to perfection. The end goal being other players looking to obtain my product over all others.

@@Veritatis.Cupitor probably. One big difference between SWG and SC is the expectation of permanence. SWG eventually made it possible to remove old houses (though it was way late and the game was already dying) but one of the reasons they gave was that players returning after a hiatus shouldn't lose their shit or they would lose their shit. They even put in a mechanic where when we destroyed an abandoned house, all the contents would move to the inventory of the account holder should they come back. It seems like SC is intending for player structures to be destructable and or require fees to keep them protected.

I'm not counting on bases for at least 2 years. The custom hangars might have some basics down for it, there's just so much more complexity involved in personal outdoor bases. Plus, there's no infrastructure for resources, how to build structures, persistence, respawn functionality, and on and on. We don't have reliable in-ship respawning and they're talking about custom bases as if they're mostly implemented.

  • @klaric1
    @klaric1 2 месяца назад +3

All of this is great and all, but it’s hard to even look forward to this with many kind of anticipation when at the moment you’re lucky to survive a trip on an elevator or landing in a hanger. I can’t even fathom the possibility of base building at the current rate of progress. I could literally construct an entire subdivision of homes with my bare hands before anything like this will even be close to being implemented.

    • @NateMcQuade

Couldn't agree more. I signed into the game for the first time in a month after having a frustration break, and within 30 minutes, I'd died from a bad elevator shaft, and lost all my gear irretrievably. This is far from the first time... These concepts are cool, but the shoring up of the basic functions of the game are definitely *more important*.

SC NEEDS to have a trade system between players. An effective one, like most MMOs have. So the itens you craft have intrinsic value. You could have anything from raw ores to data being sold at those markets. So pathfinders could sell their discoveries as well as a dedicated crafter could sell better ship weapons than what the game gives.
We need a system like a quality tier for itens.. it doesn't have to go under the same approach as other games, the usual common to legendary tiers and all. But it definitely needs one. So the items you can buy from NPCd are only common. And you gotta do certain quests or craft your own high tier items, or maybe the NPC seller is only available when maxing out the reputation levels.
Anyways, that's what SC needs to be to have an actual player driven economy. An effective way to craft, a way to buy, sell and trade items between them. Basebuilding yes, and some sort of a tier system for every type of item, to give them real value. Maybe a way to increase that tier through crafting too.

One of the ways to have a purpose to the end game is survival. If you need money more to survive, and having the risk of dying with DOAS, you will always have a purpose of meaningful survival next to whatever other missions there are or that you set for yourself. Giving gear more value (such as making armor and weapons WAY more expensive) can also create value to loot hunting and arms selling

I hope they make a system that encourages people collaborating and create a real economy. For instance, allow only 1 land grab / base per player, hence limiting their resources access to what is available on their plot of land. This will force people who want to specialise into crafting / trade to seek the missing resources from other players. By creating this need for inter-dependancies we create a framework for a real economy that people need to care about.
If anyone player is allowed to have access to everything, it'll make it easier to achieve the top end game content (whatever it means, blueprints, advanced tech, shipwright etc) without anyone else help. At the end, every player will have the same, and the game will die out.
I think a lot about the crafting system from Star Wars Galaxies, where servers had their famous crafters with the best stats, because they managed a tight production line, with the best quality of resources.
Additionally if players depend on each other for resources, this gives place for the cargo profession, to bring those needed resources from one player to another.
Incorporate that into Quantum and we have a very interesting end game, where people will care have a true purpose, that could keep the game alive for years if not decades.

There has to be serious consequences in game before base building is feasible. Unlike real life where 99% of the population does not see a random house and decide to destroy it, in video games, that seems to be the opposite. SC has mostly been KoS since CIG introduced 3.15 and looting dead player bodies of their goods. Moreso now that they have introduced the ability to remove cargo from ships using the tractor beam. 10 minutes of Klescher running through the caves to get out of prison is not a deterrent. I still think SC has gone too hardcore survival. I have zero desire to buy gear since it is lost upon death, unless I spend the time to go back to my body and get it back. Unless it disappears or the body is in a place that cannot be reached. Before 3.15 when I ran into other players there was almost never any attacking each other. Every player had unique style to their character. I cannot remember the last time I saw a player with those glowing blade style helmets. MMO players usually like to craft their character style and do not want to have to redo it each time they die. My character is in the white noob suit 99.9% of the time. Pick up some random gear at an outpost and do not care what it looks like. I feel no connection to my avatar due to not being able to style it how I want without having to redo it every time I die.

Does anyone else get tired of these daydreaming vids of one of the slowest developing, over-marketed, bug-ridden games in this era?
At some point it just seems utterly foolish.

This is everything wrong with Star Citizen. Commentators and Content Creators constantly theory-crafting a game that does not exist as if it does.

What is the problem with me repeating what they've already said?
I include the clips from the company themself that show they have said the same thing, what did I add to this video that they haven't said?

@@SpaceTomato These video essays are one thing, but your podcasts with guests are just pure theory-crafting about how their theory-crafting would make the game a hundred times better, and somehow, If only CIG would get its act together and make that, everything will be unicorns.
Call me cynical, if there is a buck to be made, CIG and content creators are going to make sure the hype train keeps running with dozens of videos every week about the next jesus patch or ship, just dont pay any attention to the actual dumpster fire behind the curtain.
Going on year 13, its getting old AF.

@@SpaceTomato I stand by what I said, a large bulk of youtube SC content is theorycrafting about how you or this person or that person would make a better game if only the devs did this or that. No reason to get defensive, you wouldnt have a quarter of the content you do without theorycrafting in some form or other. Its on me to just ignore it, because its not going to stop.

Base building shouldnt and I doubt will be "the end game"... Base building should be a way for a player to produce income and store items/ products. I invision an endgame where you are working on building your own capital ship.. literally mining and refining and producing the parts... Where organizations are building there own star bases and "forts" on planets.. not to mention the logistics and war production economy. If they are smart they will emulate eves economy and make sure its a player driven. You should be able to go out and mine minerals, bring them back and refine them and use them to produce ship parts that you can use via blue prints. Id also like to see player made or owned asteroid bases. Some of us want to live in space and not on a station.
