Clarification: Real money urchased ships are NEVER reset, only ships purchased in-game during the alpha. The messaging may have been confusing in the video. Sorry!
Hey am I the only one having this issue where when I put on the helmet my HUD icons are not properly within frame? For example about half of the tutorial stuff to the right corner is off screen, I tried adjust field of view but no luck
Small correction. When you talk about buying ships with real money, you then immediately talk about wipes resetting things and the player needing to rebuy ships. It's very important that new players know that ships bought with real money are NEVER wiped. It's only ships bought with in game currency that are wiped.
Does your currency get wiped or can I just repurchase the ships. I've just started my first day today and enjoying my time. I could see myself buying ships in future but will be using ingame currency until I am fully committed to the game.
Great to get a new updated beginner's guide. One correction- the radial menu (PIT) now requires f+left&right mouse buttons by default, not just f+right mouse like in the past.

I have been contemplating Star Citizen, I love space sim games, I am playing Elite Dangerous at the moment, sure it has its flaws like any other game but feel it has more to do and systems you can put your name on 400 billion systems to travel too. Star Citizen looks like they want to focus on enviroment, it looks amazing, I know they focus on more but I feel with Elite, sure it basic but I don't mind basic, SC having to reset after a update.... no thanks. I might in the future, but Elite, I am happy with it, they may add more features like SC but I am happy to wait.
I can confirm that box delivery missions are very dangerous- On my first mission, my drake cutter crashed due to laser fire from the ground and I froze to death after not finding the package...
Absoutely! Like I said, there are occsional resets, so if it's been a few years you'll have a clean slate. You can also reset your character on the website whenever.
One thing that I think is essential people should be informed of in beginning tutorials is key binds and best settings ( for most). Especially what may be best thing to bind or change ( throttle inversion..cough)! What is the difference between abs vs rel? Seriously…what is the difference? Also, where trine those things.
I thought it was weird to call leaving your landing gear down 'derp', given that when flying in atmosphere keeping the gear down and flying decoupled activates a hidden flight mode that automatically cancels just the pull of gravity on your ship. Essentially coupled along the vertical axis, decoupled along the horizontal axis, relative to the ground. Literally the most useful flight mode in atmosphere. Doing this keeps your forward vector chevron rock steady, and you only have to manage drag from the atmosphere with periodic bursts of forward thrust.
Thanks for the guide. I loaded the game up for the first time in 9 years after seeing this guide. I made it my personal mission to fly into space. During the tutorial and I had to go to a shop. I was walking through town, suddenly began gasping, BPM was touching 200, a fire icon appeared, counted down to 0 and I died. Respawned in my room, continued to die and I died in my bed. Is this a normal day in SC?
i tryed this game last noght and took me 3 and a half hrs to get out the door of my apartment. yep i was done with it by time i got to lower level there was so many people running out the med center and dropping there robes i started picking them up
This game made me realize that there won't be anything like it. I was one of those that thought Starfield could be that space game for me because it was single player open "world" space game but after actually playing it, just very disappointed with the abundance of loading screens. I was never into MMOs because I just plain don't like playing online with other players. Star Citizen, I make an exception because I can still solo the game and enjoy myself and no loading screens!
I'm the same as you. Grew up on Mass Effect, Deus Ex, KOTOR, etc. Always was looking for a fix after ME3, I wasn't into MMOs ever before but Star Citizen has turned me into a multiplayer, and I don't even have IRL friends who play. Starfield was a joy to play for me, but this game definitely has its own place as well.
I really love how the game utilizes hidden loading screens! Theres plenty games that try this, or just use plain ol loading screens, but the way CIG has integrated them is PERFECT.
@@yeastydynasty there are plenty. Only certain parts of the world are loaded at a time for each client, due to obvious reasons. For instance: Elevators ingame. Okay, well, those are the most obvious. More hidden loading screen are Hangar doors, the vast array of space, entry points for larger ships, etc etc. If you want to be really pedantic you could also count the loading screens when entering the game ;)
@@historyman9436 lol dude whats your proof on this? Using an elevator to get to your ship that spawns in a hangar, you can clearly see you actually travel to that hangar. You jump from one end of the system to other, you can drop out of QT anytime. If there was all these hidden loading screens, this game would almost be in beta right now and the whole only certain parts are loaded at time, sorry false. If that were the case, this game would be ALOT further along than it is right now. Not to mention, the servers would be running a helluva alot better if there was these "hidden loading screens" you are suggesting that are in the game.
I just got to the space station with all my cool gear after days of trying, and messing with gamepad keybinds. I crashed before i could get to the hospital. Maybe next time!!
One of the most up-to-date professionally made first time player guides I seen in a while I definitely will be recommending friends this video to watch when they want to play for the first time keep up the good work thanks for your dedication
Great guide, but unfortunately I can’t spawn my ship, so I can’t follow it. I just tried for an hour to spawn my ship, following every guide I could find and even asking players in-game for help. Apparently I have to reach out to CIG through their support site. Such a frustrating experience.
Good tutorial but I have some critiques. - Navigating to ship starter packs (or game packages) on the Roberts Space Industries website is super confusing to newcomers (terrible UX on that website), showing how people can navigate there from the homepage can be helpful. - Backpack size is determined by armor type, when you suggested backpacks that info was missing. When I first played this mechanic confused me, it would be good to clarify that. - You suggest the Aurora but the first ship you jump into is a Pisces. The pilot HUD when first entering a ship can be overwhelming and showing pilot view of the ship you recommended would be ideal. (EDIT: From SpaceTomato's comment below, the tutorial in Area 18 you are given a given a different ship from what you purchase, maybe point to which ship that is in the website pledge store in the beginning)
Thanks for the feedback! I suggest the Aurora, but also suggest the tutorial. You cannot access your Aurora until after the tutorial so this might confuse players.
All elevators should be WONKA-VATOR i.e. made of glass... so that JJ Abrams glorious elevator travel through ship/world is possible. But that would have to have been designed in at the very early stage, not wedged in way too late like all the changes to ships that'll be needed when Engineering comes in. Or when Chris Roberts finally decides that Planets are Not Awesome Enough at 10% scale. Which he probably will at some point.
Do you know if they plan on having multiple character profiles in the future? I am hoping I can have different chracters so I can role play and specialize at different things. make a criminal pirate running from the law make bounty hunter who is on gray area of law good guy, stand up cargo runner/trader/hauler salvage and scrap hunter etc etc!!
So helpful! Thanks for this. So I claim I heard you say the "N key" auto lands your ship? I Love my Syulen, but man a bit of a curve to learn to land it.
I do play on a workstation so the memory part i have covered with 128 gig, also the game is installed on an nvme drive, but not played in a while and now the game crash on startup every darn time, guess i skip the expo :) The nvme drive sure helps a lot.
PSA: bugs can and do cause your ship to blow up for no reason. You then cannot get that ship back unless you paid real money for it. This will tempt you to pay real money for really expensive ships because you can lose a lot of time when your ship, which you worked hard for, blows up for no reason. This is why I enjoy Star Citizen during free fly but will not buy it until this gets dealt with. Apparently the ability to buy insurance in-game might come someday. That would be nice. Elite provides this automatically, and even restores all your ship modifications.
Space Tomato: last night in the game someone told me that you CAN in fact get an in-game earned ship back if it blows up - because ships you buy all come with free insurance. So if I buy in with $40 real money and then work in-game for an expensive ship, I won't lose that ship if it blows up because of a bug. I will lose it in a server wipe, but NOT in a random accident. Is that true?
My first 2 hours summarized: - destroyed seven ships before leaving atmosphere of first planet - died when entering an elevator - got thrown into jail for god knows why - met a lot of incredibly friendly players - managed to land a ship at a space station - have to stay in prison for 3 hours because I dont know how to mine
Potentially odd question: I currently play FPS with half of a keyboard (essentially the left half of a keyboard without an F row). Are there a ton of keys needed for this game, or do you think I should be able to comfortably remap everything into my limited space? I am definitely interested in checking this out. Starfield was like an appetizer, this seems like it could be the entrée and dessert.
You may want more keyboard unless you really love remapping keys. There's a lot of keybinds but you could probably get all the ones you need on what you have. You may also need to ask how to do something in game and get advice that doesn't help given your key changes.
Every time I tried to do any contract, be that delivery or whatnot, I’d 30k midway, loosing the contract and everything I had. That forced me to refund the game after a week of around hundered attemps with 0 success. Can’t refund all that wasted time though…
hi @SpaceTomato i would love it if you would share your current pc hardware build in order to play SC so smoothly :D:D icsn currently play it and also smoothly but you might have a better future proof build :) Thanks!
Will my Asus tuf gaming a17 laptop be able to run this game? Prosessor AMD Ryzen 5 4600H with Radeon Graphics 3.00 GHz Installert RAM 16,0 GB Systemtype 64-biters operativsystem, x64-basert prosessor
What do you mean if there is server wipe expect to get all these ships again? Is that only the ones you earn in game with current currency system? So if I use real world money to buy caterpillar for example, if they wipe servers I lose that ship? Or that is safe since I used real world money to purchase is vs in game?
Real money ships won't get wiped, anything you buy with game currency is gone after a wipe. Also, even if you have a real money ship, if it is not insured or you don't renew the policy, can be lost for good if it gets destroyed.
Clarification: Real money urchased ships are NEVER reset, only ships purchased in-game during the alpha.
The messaging may have been confusing in the video. Sorry!
So i have to pay ONCE. And after the game launches? I have to buy again?
Why is it so choppy?
@@ChicoAzevedo Once you buy a package, it's there...forever...through patches...through release, and most importantly - always after you blow it up.
What about weapons. I've heard there are weapons and stuff you buy with real money that are lost on death?
Hey am I the only one having this issue where when I put on the helmet my HUD icons are not properly within frame? For example about half of the tutorial stuff to the right corner is off screen, I tried adjust field of view but no luck
Small correction. When you talk about buying ships with real money, you then immediately talk about wipes resetting things and the player needing to rebuy ships.
It's very important that new players know that ships bought with real money are NEVER wiped. It's only ships bought with in game currency that are wiped.

I just wish that in the future that they add the abillity to be a mechanic i know its sounds weird but i would enjoy it
I will say the community is one of the best in the game world
After a wipe (regain aUEC), I go around and buy clothing and gear, then leave them at the varies cities and stations, but lately I've discovered that Items I've left at Area 18 have disappeared after an update without being reimbursed.
After completing some P&D jobs and picked up the missing item, I discovered my diminished funds (
I watched your videos in the past when I was playing Star Citizen and enjoyed them then as well. I am just coming back after a couple years and was trying the tutorial, but could not figure out how to leave the starting station in the tutorial. I saw no opening and it does not tell you to contact departure like I remember from the game before. I will try your beginners guide here to see if that will help. Thank you for your content.
Great video as always. Thank you!
17:37 you bring a box with your tractor beam and loot stuff inside the box. Where is this box coming from? Like a external inventory box? That's nice I need this!
well at 40 seconds you just sold the game for me, vehicles on planet vs hoofing it in starfield, will continue watching now.
Damn this video came jsut at the right time 💯 so many new players and investors after citizen-con 📈
It worked out quite well!
Don't lie bro, everyone needs a carrack day one. Just kidding love the channel.(I have a polaris, a Galaxy and a zeus mr).
Might be finally time for me to give it a try during this last week of the free to play period. Thanks for the video
I have been contemplating Star Citizen, I love space sim games, I am playing Elite Dangerous at the moment, sure it has its flaws like any other game but feel it has more to do and systems you can put your name on 400 billion systems to travel too. Star Citizen looks like they want to focus on enviroment, it looks amazing, I know they focus on more but I feel with Elite, sure it basic but I don't mind basic, SC having to reset after a update.... no thanks. I might in the future, but Elite, I am happy with it, they may add more features like SC but I am happy to wait.
thanks i am going to try to get back in and have fun
Perfect for new people!
17:44 Better is with a tractor beam take the whole dead body and move the body to the ship :D
I can confirm that box delivery missions are very dangerous-
On my first mission, my drake cutter crashed due to laser fire from the ground and I froze to death after not finding the package...
Awesome video! Extensive and clear. Would be a beginner again. Love your content.
If you have dabbled before (maybe a few years ago) can you "restart" (so as to follow this wonderful guide)
Damn, this was an excelent video. I returned a few days ago and am feeling completely lost, ty!
Glad it helped!
Certain large ships like the Reclaimer or Carrack need VTOL on as well to fully cancel gravity on high gravity worlds.
Great video Tomato . should also talk about reshade for night vision . thermal and more . lifesaver
Ayyyy that's my Reddit post at 0:55! I'm famous
Lol thank you for enduring the long wait!
i tryed this game last noght and took me 3 and a half hrs to get out the door of my apartment. yep i was done with it by time i got to lower level there was so many people running out the med center and dropping there robes i started picking them up
We need janitors!
Was cool to see you at Citizencon
@@historyman9436 lol there isn't any hidden loading screens in the game.
I am here because I didn't see the tutorial option pop up for me. May have been a bug, I dunno. But man this game is hard without tutorials lol.
Make sure to load into one of the landing zones that have the tutorial active!
Great guide, but unfortunately I can’t spawn my ship, so I can’t follow it. I just tried for an hour to spawn my ship, following every guide I could find and even asking players in-game for help. Apparently I have to reach out to CIG through their support site. Such a frustrating experience.
years of playing SC, and today I learn holing N can autoland...........
@@SpaceTomato Oh weird I did not know that. That's kind of strange of them to do.
Great vid, thank you!
Thank you for posting this video 🎥🍿🍺🇺🇸👍. You have a new subscriber 🎉. Keep up the great 👍 work.
Really good guide, thank you!
Thanks for the overview!
Do you know if they plan on having multiple character profiles in the future? I am hoping I can have different chracters so I can role play and specialize at different things.
make a criminal pirate running from the law
make bounty hunter who is on gray area of law
good guy, stand up cargo runner/trader/hauler
salvage and scrap hunter
etc etc!!
So helpful! Thanks for this. So I claim I heard you say the "N key" auto lands your ship? I Love my Syulen, but man a bit of a curve to learn to land it.
As soon as he reached the hangar I knew it was over lol. Its become part of the ritual for newcomers to crash their ship as soon as they get it
This Game looks AMAZING. ! Does it have full controller support yet. ??
Nice!
I do play on a workstation so the memory part i have covered with 128 gig, also the game is installed on an nvme drive, but not played in a while and now the game crash on startup every darn time, guess i skip the expo :) The nvme drive sure helps a lot.
Great video Tomato. Thanks. A friend from Italy.
I once had my entire ship disintegrate because I lied down in my Aurora and got back up. Stay safe out there people.
It's a dangerous world
I'm allergic to Tomatoes, but you are an exception! Great video.
Amazing video Tomatoman!
Great video
Thank you
PSA: bugs can and do cause your ship to blow up for no reason.
Is that true?
you'd better go with Cutter starter pack. It costs the same as Aurora but better due to current discount.
So I have to constantly worry that another player is going to shoot me in the head and loot my corpse?
I've been waiting for a game like this.. but every time I play this, my eyes hurt, I can't do long sessions.
Which is frustrating
My first 2 hours summarized:
- destroyed seven ships before leaving atmosphere of first planet
- died when entering an elevator
- got thrown into jail for god knows why
- met a lot of incredibly friendly players
- managed to land a ship at a space station
- have to stay in prison for 3 hours because I dont know how to mine
Potentially odd question: I currently play FPS with half of a keyboard (essentially the left half of a keyboard without an F row). Are there a ton of keys needed for this game, or do you think I should be able to comfortably remap everything into my limited space? I am definitely interested in checking this out. Starfield was like an appetizer, this seems like it could be the entrée and dessert.
You may want more keyboard unless you really love remapping keys. There's a lot of keybinds but you could probably get all the ones you need on what you have. You may also need to ask how to do something in game and get advice that doesn't help given your key changes.
@@wertacus this is helpful, thank you!! I'll dig out a full size :)
If you use a HOTAS or HOSAS setup, you can get away with a limited keyboard. Otherwise I'd at least want a TKL, I personally use a full size keyboard.
Every time I tried to do any contract, be that delivery or whatnot, I’d 30k midway, loosing the contract and everything I had. That forced me to refund the game after a week of around hundered attemps with 0 success. Can’t refund all that wasted time though…
I have a Question the 5k you get from referral is that use jt and lose it, I mean when they wipe the servers you dont have the 5 k anymore ?
hi @SpaceTomato i would love it if you would share your current pc hardware build in order to play SC so smoothly :D:D icsn currently play it and also smoothly but you might have a better future proof build :) Thanks!
I don't have the greatest build for it, but you can find me info here: bit.ly/GamingKit
I bought a cutlass black 10 years ago, forgot i had it lol
Just started sc yesterday looking for friends to play with.
amazing video space
04:00 where do you buy all this equipment, what wendors where do you find the vendors ????
Will my Asus tuf gaming a17 laptop be able to run this game?
Prosessor AMD Ryzen 5 4600H with Radeon Graphics 3.00 GHz
Installert RAM 16,0 GB
Systemtype 64-biters operativsystem, x64-basert prosessor
What do you mean if there is server wipe expect to get all these ships again? Is that only the ones you earn in game with current currency system?
So if I use real world money to buy caterpillar for example, if they wipe servers I lose that ship? Or that is safe since I used real world money to purchase is vs in game?
Real money ships won't get wiped, anything you buy with game currency is gone after a wipe.
Also, even if you have a real money ship, if it is not insured or you don't renew the policy, can be lost for good if it gets destroyed.
So if I buy ships with real money and there is an update, I loose my ships AND have to pay real money to get them back????
Are we able to change where we want to spawn like if I'm in NB can I switch to a18
