I remember the hype prior to NHL '05. Was so excited to see his career progress in the game. He's even exceeded that hype

Except that he is still very far from catching Gretzky....as any all-time list must include the goals Gretzky scored while playing in the WHA...during the prime of his career. The real total for Gretzky is 1072. No one seems to mention that in these sensationalist NHL videos.

i remember that...it was the year ovie scored like 30 something goals ...like thats not alot. he tore into ovie and said the caps were going trade ovie that he wouldn't ever go any father . i actually think about that all the time trying to find that jackasses name who said it but couldn't .
This was my first caps game. It was a mad house for like 3 mins after that. Truly awesome to be there.
That atmosphere was amazing. So great to see it live.

One of my favorite hockey players ever! As a Flames fan I don't even care he scored his previous 2 goals against us. But I am really happy he was able to score that next goal in Washington instead of an empty net for the hattrick here. I think Alex would agree.

We’ve literally seen the most complete, talented players in the game’s history over the last 15 years. All the respect in the world to Wayne and his accomplishments, but nothing compares to this guy doing this in this era.
Might be true, but none of these guys had to play through any sort of clutch and grab, trap or dead puck era. Wayne had to do that in his twilight. Whereas todays game is non-contact.

Keep in mind goalie coaches and technique coaches are a within the last 20 years addition to the game. Also, calling today's game non-contact is just bs. It's not the wild west it used to be, because we have seen people give their lives after hockey up for decades, but don't tell me there isn't still hitting, fighting, and guys putting their bodies on the line every single night.
You said it right. This guy is as complete as you can ever find. Just an amazing player and his goals look easy but they are very hard. Those slap shots, many have tried and the success rate for others would be less than 10%, but in his case it is well over 50%.
Go Ovi and get to 1000 goals.
