When going through difficult times, rewatching childhood films takes you back to a place where you are safe, happy, and without a care in the world. And fills your soul with hope and excitment, distracting you from all of your problems for a short while. What a beautiful story, animation and music. Thank you for being part of my childhood and being something I can come back to, to feel at home again.
One of my all time favorite stories. So peaceful and relaxing, in dreams I can see myself sitting around the fire on a cold winter's night with Rat and Mole. Or sleeping peacefully in Toad's caravan. It's like a picture of Heaven in a way.

My Dad used to read this to my sister and myself when we were little. My Dads favourite story. He used to assume the voices of these creatures too. I miss those times with our dad.

@@windstrucklady1exactly. I used to be mad that my mother gave away one of my favourite childhood dresses to a Cousin. And a bunch of my favourite books were lost in an old raccoon infested storage. Now that I’m older and a mother myself, I get it. Now I’m planning to make a dress like the one I had, and slowly collecting my old favourite books. this movie always calms me down, ever since i was a kid. i am happy that it has stayed posted here so i can come back to it again and again easily. the music and vanessa redgrave's narration, and the beautiful and playful and expressive animation. Seriously, this movie has it all. "you must listen to the river. its just the same as ever it was and always will be. always changing, and always the same". what a beautiful sentiment. Are we not all like the river? always changing, and always the same.
Badger's voice was actually played by the actor who played Dumbledore in the later Harry Potter films after the first actor in the first film. Amazing.
Rat: Cold chicken, cold tongue, cold ham, cold beef, pickled gherkin, salad, French roll, fresh sandwiches, potted meat, ginger beer, lemonade, soda water. Mole: (chuckling while Rat is talking) Stop! Too much! Rat: Only what I always take on these little excursions!
OMG! Bless me. I grew up with this VHS. I watched it over and over until I broke the tape. I haven't seen this since I was 11. Thank you. Truly, thank you!!!
This was beautifully done, and with Vanessa R. narrating, it is the icing on the cake. If you haven't read the book, oh, so so. My dad gave the book to me in 1963 and I never read it....until now (I'm 70). I just finished it today. I don't think I could have understood the charm of it back then. Love Ratty, Moley and Badger. Toad was hard to like. So many good lessons in this story. ♥
Vanessa captivated my soul at 6 years old, with her words like liquid as they described this poetic world. The scene where Ratty dreams of voyages marked by the enchanting flight of the swallows in orange light will forever be grained into my heart. As will the scene of the spirit leading Mole and Ratty to baby otter. Magic.
I am now almost 79 and having the time to reflect on a past often turbulent life, I can now look back with affection on a still innocent childhood, even in wartorn London without a father. We now live in again an age of violence and cycnicism, via the Farages, Trumps, Bannons and others of their ilk we are now living yet again being attacked on all sides by those whose only viiews are of Nationalisms and hatreds. Somewhere along the way we have already lost what I thought were lessons for life - notably that we are all very much the same, but somehow we are seeing the thugs and hooligans having their obscene philosophies appearing almost daily, with less and less criticisms of what they are propagating. Is mankind doomed to keep repeating the murderous lifestyles that came to disgustig fruition in Two World Wars? Have we learned NOTHING about living together sharing the same planet and just taking a reasoned view of other's opinions? I now hear of everyone 'putting their country first' as some sort of mantra but what do we mean by this? That we are somehow superior or better human beings than others? That's what I keep hearing, and it nauseates me. Maybe my generation messed up, but let the so-called better educated and intelligent younger ones learn something from our foul-ups and not simply repeat them. These films were from a more innocent age, and despite the abounding problems of the times still touched our humanity and in most cases stayed with us. Surely we are capable of recapturing that much at least? I can't believe that would be such a bad thing.

Marvelous animation & adaptation for this fabulous classic ! Perfect for any age! The great introduction from Vanessa Redgrave gives this an enchanting touch ! Their adventures & fireside scenes in winter we can return to again & again with these great friendships ! Thank you for sharing !
My father used to read the book to us. He had a different voice for each of the characters and he had a blast with Mr. Toad. Dad is a bit of a motor head all be it a collected one, but he understood Toad's excitement over newfangled things, esp cars. "A motor car, a motor car! I finally got a motor car!"
Oh bother, this movie forever captured my childhood & heart. I feel as I enter a new phase in my life, it’s almost as if I transcend into a new character depending on the season I’m coming into... when I was young and foolish and over indulgent, I was Toad. I’ve been sensible crowd pleasing Mole, and have entered the stage of wise, spiritually called and I’m tune-Ratty. Between motherhood of Otter and wise Ratty. Badger will be towards the end of my life I’m sure. Does anyone relate? This movie speaks to me in a whole new way now that I’m older. The story line between Ratty & Mole I’ve come to understand as when I was little I didn’t as much.
I loved this story as a child and I still love it today - I bought a lovely illustrated edition and then read the story of Toad to my daughter when she was small, and she adored it too. It is so wonderfully English, full of wit and humour, but charming and exciting at the same time - the perfect children's story.
My wife was a cell painter on this, we used to have this and other painted cells laying all around our flat drying, I think it was 24 cells per 1 second of animation,
I'm 34 as of writing this post and last watched this well over half a lifetime ago. Came back to it today for the comfort and familiarity of a time long past before childhood's promise faded with the passing of the years. Thank you so much for uploading and making this possible 🙏
Watched this and The Willows In Winter so many times with my kids. It was their favorite. I still love it and I still have my copies on video. Brings back fond memories of days gone by. Thank you for uploading. ♥️
This was magic for me, watched it years ago, and still watch it, so dreamy, and beautifully put together, all voice overs are tops, fabulous it is, narration, and all, the colors, in each, scene are incredible, story line, just loved, still do!! :-) :-)
We read the book at bedtime. Wind In The Willows, Giving Tree, Beatrice Potter, sooooo many great stories! I couldnt wait to read them....even after my daughter fell asleep!
I adore this film....so timeless...so well done! Saw it many times when i was a kid along with the Willows in Winter which i had on VHS as a young kid! What a treasure this is! Takes me back to the days when i felt like i was actually with all of the characters in the story! The animation is pristine and the voiceover acting is phenomenal!
I would fall asleep to this movie and let it replay through the night. Could never pay attention long enough to watch the whole thing in one sitting but it was such a peaceful movie that I’d leave it playing when I needed noise as a kid haha
Rat was hallucinating the sea, Greek temples, ships, and Venice in Italy, quite enchanting. I wish to go Germany, Italy, France, Romania, Scotland, and Iceland.
When Mole walks through the Wild Wood, it quite reminds me of the Disney character Snow White when she was running into a scary forest full of trees with frightening faces. Quite scary for Mole and Snow White to walk through scary forests.
Seriously, I didn't know Ric Mayall had passed away. Can anyone tell when (just the year will be fine) & from what he died? I was only familiar with him thru "Drop Dead Fred", but then I began watching old Blackadder vids & there he was!
"Its the very end of everything for toad. The popular & handsome toad. The rich & kind-hearted toad. They'll all forget me. Wise, old *Badger*. Clever, intelligent *Rat*. Sensible *Mole*. It really is the end. The utter, bitter end of goold ol'*Toad*" (Toad weeping in his cell) Later after toad managed to escape from jail. Mole: "We shan't forget toad, not ever"
I was searching for this since I haven't seen it since I was little. I used to watch this at my Grammy's house. I would cuddle up on the couch with her and always fall asleep with my head on her lap while watching it. It's so cool to see so many people watched it when they were kids too. Everyone I grew up with had no idea what this movie was when I tried to tell them about it.
In the Spring of 2020 and a world that has gone crazy....Kenneth Grahame's classic story to the rescue and the hope of good times to come. Thank you for posting.
Rat: "Villains! Scoundrels! I'll have the law on you! I'll get you I will! You Roadhogs!" Mole: (to the horse) "Steady on, boy, steady on" Toad: "Poop, Poop!"

Thank you for posting this 😊 I had a sudden urge to look this up after having not thought about it in decades and it is such a wholesome comfort watch for me now❤️
At the time it was written, the countryside was being eradicated, moles, and badgers slaughtered endlessly. However; the cartoon, and voice-acting are golden.
Thank you for uploading this version of "The Wind in the Willows", before you did I looked for it for a long time but only managed to find "The Willows in Winter". It's like having some soup, wrapped up in a cosy blanket by and open fire, peaceful and comforting.🌹

Jordan Briskin actually the “only” is for Richard Harris because of the first 2 film adaptations
@@jordanbriskin238 he was only Dumbledore in the majority of the films....you do know what only means right
TOAD DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE?
This was magic for me, watched it years ago, and still watch it, so dreamy, and beautifully put together, all voice overs are tops, fabulous it is, narration, and all, the colors, in each, scene are incredible, story line, just loved, still do!! :-) :-)
The part of your childhood that stays with you forever
" Do be quiet you hurt my head " thats how I feel about Toads character also. I have to turn down the volume when he arrives on the scene
The nostalgia is real. RIP Rik Mayall
We read the book at bedtime. Wind In The Willows, Giving Tree, Beatrice Potter, sooooo many great stories! I couldnt wait to read them....even after my daughter fell asleep!
I've been looking for this video for who knows how long now! Thank you so much for uploading this gem
An all-star cast in this film. Brilliant! Thanks for the upload.
Whiles Toad was hallucinating ”Poop, Poop" 🤣🤣🤣
When Mole walks through the Wild Wood, it quite reminds me of the Disney character Snow White when she was running into a scary forest full of trees with frightening faces. Quite scary for Mole and Snow White to walk through scary forests.
Unlike rat who is very brave. He eas armed & ready to fight off enemies whilst searching for his friend.
RIP Rick Mayll :(
One of many things I will allways remember him from.
+Doug Briglmen Me too.
agreed
Doug Briglmen He was a toad in a hole 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸
I say! thats my motorcar. Villain scoundrole! i'll have the law on you. LOL 42:27
Seriously, I didn't know Ric Mayall had passed away. Can anyone tell when (just the year will be fine) & from what he died? I was only familiar with him thru "Drop Dead Fred", but then I began watching old Blackadder vids & there he was!
I worked on this when I was in my 20s in the mid-90s, wonderful time making this and watching it on Christmas day. it felt so special.
"Its the very end of everything for toad. The popular & handsome toad. The rich & kind-hearted toad. They'll all forget me. Wise, old *Badger*. Clever, intelligent *Rat*. Sensible *Mole*. It really is the end. The utter, bitter end of goold ol'*Toad*" (Toad weeping in his cell)
Later after toad managed to escape from jail.
Mole: "We shan't forget toad, not ever"
Onion Sauce... ONION SAUCE
At the end when each of the characters speak their quotations 😍 memories oh sweet memories
In that battle with weasels was a bit like that battle in Beauty and the Beast when those living household objects fought Gaston's friends.
In the Spring of 2020 and a world that has gone crazy....Kenneth Grahame's classic story to the rescue and the hope of good times to come.
Thank you for posting.
Rat: "Villains! Scoundrels! I'll have the law on you! I'll get you I will! You Roadhogs!"
Mole: (to the horse) "Steady on, boy, steady on"
Toad: "Poop, Poop!"
I still love these wonderful critters a part of my Child hood and I made them part of my wonderful Grandson's , why can't thay make things like this in these hard times kids needs them ,we need them will goodnight I'm going to watch this and become a Child again goodnight from this 78 yr old Child.
Best version of the timeless tale
manzilla48 I don't know if I like the fact that Toad was stealing and escape from prison. I like the idea he was framed better by the weasels.
altarush But this is how the book wrote it
I think the Rankin Bass version is the best.
What do you think of the BBC Matt Lucas version?
***** Nice to know. :) The Matt Lucas version is my most favourite version.
What a lovely adaptation! The animation is quite nice.
Dude, I had no idea! I thought it looked familiar. I used to love Peter Rabbit as a child.
@George Webster also the same studio that gave us "The Snowman", "Father Christmas", "The Bear", and believe it or not "Yellow Submarine", TVC of London Soho Square. Animator Dave Unwin and Late Great Director Jack Stokes were part of the team on this.
I had totally forgotten about this!!! Omg the nostalgia
Be a good little kitten today !
All these childhood classic cartoons, just wish to go back in time… We were born in Fiji, and these cartoons were readily available there. So any cartoon we saw was huge for us back in the islands. ❤Miss these cartoons, no one makes it like these anymore…. ❤plus miss you Fiji 🇫🇯 Please make more cartoons like these, it’ll be a mega$$$ hit … top charts, bringing back everyone’s childhood n love, peace…. we all need it, even though most of us are all grown ups❤
When Badger argued with Toad about smashing motorcars was a bit crazy and Toad fought with Rat and Mole trying to restrain him.
Toad was my favorite character! This movie was my entire childhood!
My childhood. I had this on VHS when I was a kid.
I love this movie.
Thanks for uploading it.
I can never get over how much the gaoler's daughter sounds like Alice from the Vicar of Dibley 😂🥰
The casting in this is flawless, such a beautiful bit of childhood remembered.
Vanessa Redgrave is the best narrator ever!!
My absolute favorite book. Love all the characters. Thank you for posting. ❤️
Watched this all the time as a child
Badger's like an embodiment of discipline.
@Otakuwolf4ever Badger would make a good leader of the riverbankers.
Thank you for posting this 😊 I had a sudden urge to look this up after having not thought about it in decades and it is such a wholesome comfort watch for me now❤️
I want to be a father so I can share these wonderful stories with my children.
I rememeber my grandma got me a box set of this, the Willows in Winter, and a clock with Mr Toad on it. I'm glad someone uploaded this to YT. I've always preferred this version to Disney's tbh
