Brings me back to my childhood listening to this on Radio , this version is completely brought to life entirely with the magical voice of Richard Briers , his ability to change his voice and such a range of charachters to impersonate is fascinating
I usually don’t like audiobooks because I don’t like the slow talking pace compared to my reading speed, but this is fast and entertaining! I love the voices!
What a delightful sleep story, so well read. I wonder if you would consider reading the Thornton Burgess bedtime story series. Some xamples are Paddy the Beaver, Sammy Jay, Chatterer the Red Squirrel, Little Joe Otter. I had a teacher in Grade 2 who read these to us every day after lunch, and I have such dear memories of these delightful stories . Each little forest creature is an example of human personality types and behaviours , the story ending with a discreet moral . I’d love to hear them again😅
Beautifully read but it's such a shame that at least 2 chapters are missed out....Wayfarers All and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Also, some parts of complete chapters are missing. Why?
Simply, it's abridged for this version so it'll run for three hours. It's the version I had thirty years ago and fell in love with. Richard Briers does such a beautiful job of reading it, it is, to my mind, just as valid and immersive as the original. The stage show is even shorter, but somehow is just as magical.
He's got genuine friends around him to stop any real violations. Each may be well educated, but they keep themselves to themselves, and live humbly within their means.
Sure glad to stumble upon this old gem. Finally, after listening to this, I can fall asleep with great nostalgia in mind.
So entertaining...the narrator is impeccable.
