Mind you it actually became much easier to flare punch as pyros now stay on fire much longer and a single flame can now hit multiple times. You'd use to have to go very out of your way to get momentum into the pyro or curve your flames into him (flames no longer curve).
I do wish that flames still worked the way they did before: They give less room for error (pyro's don't stay on fire as long) but they have a skill requiring mechanic that lets you have more control and timing (curving flames) But hey, maybe this would screw up the flame particles matching their hitboxes again and I wouldn't want that. Airblast is definitely better as it is now at least.
@@unityofvitality-5875 He was talking about the change in how airblast works, it used to always send an opponent just a little up and back in the same direction every time so it was easy to hit a flare on them as they wouldn't be moving anywhere. They then changed it to be influenced by your vertical aim and the momentum of both you and your target.
the flare gun does not reload when put away, it simply cancels the animation, the reload still happens and can be interrupted when you have the flare gun active. if you want the quick flare punch youll need to make sure your flare gun is reloaded by swapping to it for a few seconds before attempting a flare punch.
It's always a good day to learn more about combo pyro. Right now (before watching the video), I'm a beast with the flare gun, but I'm quite iffy with flarepunching other pyros.
I recently found your channel and I'm very impressed by the quality and effort you put into these videos. You deserve more recognition for this, well done.
This sent me spiraling. I recognized the Pheonix Wright music but couldn't put my tongue on what it was. Had to dig through my favorites from like 16 years ago to find it.
It's also good to practice this these techniques near walls. Enemies bounce off of walls they're airblasted into, which might mess up your aim if you aren't prepared for it!
been hoping for a video like this from you! i've been wanting to get better with the Flare Gun for a long time, its a lot of fun to use and it always feels super satisfying whenever you pull a crit off with it. right now i think i'm okay to decent with it, but i absolutely still have a lot left to learn.
One of the most serotonin inducing moments is when an enemy pyro is trying to flare punch you and you airblast the flare back into them even more so if it crits
Thank you, I was looking for something to watch (I watched your combo pyro guide) and wanted the flare punch guide. And then boom, your video appears, thank you! Also cool ace attorney music
The Flare Gun is the one that focuses on pure, raw, juicy damage. Detonator mainly for Mobility Scorch for Range And the Mannmelter for Support with the Phlog
Flares are a drug if you're good with them. Literally every crit in this video triggered an explosion of dopamine in my brain, even though I usually don't react that way to plays that I'm not making.
I always taunt after flarepunching snipers using the drawins danger shield. It's a 50% chance they call me the n word and a 50% that they'll taunt after killing me for the rest of the game.
Problem with the flare gun is that it does too little damage but requires too much skill. You have to light up an enemy and land your shot for just 90 damage, whereas a shotgun meat shot can do the same damage or even more depending on the circumstance. A shotgun also offers way stronger medium range combat options, but the flare gun only has one shot. The only potential benefit the flare gun has over the shotguns is the afterburn, but there are a million ways to get rid of afterburn and it's just not a reliable source of damage.
offers more range as well, i usually go for Degreaser/panic attack but sometimes i find the need to be close to my enemies to get max damage kinda annoying, especially against classes that just run the moment you flame them like scouts and spys. the flare gives you more room to pull off combos at longer ranges
If you think about it, Flare gun can catch enemies off guard much better than a shotgun. 90 damage is huge, actually. Just being a heavy, it's close to 100 damage, which makes it quite devastating towards a lot of classes.
Thanks so much for the info, and for being very specific. I¿m new and i didn't know about the passive reload, plus, i was confused because quick comboing wasn't working for me, but with how you explained it and using Q instead of manually picking plus the very important detail of keeping left click pressed throughout (it really isn't obvious for someone who doesn't already feel familiar in tf2 and it's pretty specific to this game, as simple of a detail as it may seem), it worked for me, thank you! and thanks for the training bit
2 flare gun will nearly guarantee a light classes' death as landing both shots does 120 damage so either the crit kills or the afterburn does if they get hit by 2 flare gun hits and 2 ticks of afterburn
I've been practicing Combo Pyro for months, and i ADORE this thing. Sure the detonator and THAT OTHER ONE is objectively better, but they dont feel as satisfying to hit. The detonator manual detonation hit is sure pretty cool but its an explosion, meaning it can hit multiple people, and you will most likely still hit your target even if you miss your shot which is also the case with *THE OTHER ONE* so it doesn't feel as satisfying as a 90 damage, crit sound effect and no splash damage. Im not even half decent at this game but one time i top scored using the stock Flare gun and Axtinguisher. Its just really fun and satisfying to hit! like "Oh hey soldier, thats a nice rocket launcher you have there. you know, i got something better. Stunlock + crit + minicrit 158 Axtinguisher hit"
Hey man, coming from being a heavy main (maining both heavy and pyro is pretty fun) just gotta say I'd be pretty lost on what the hell to do without your content. Keep it up and I'm sure you can get up there with the TF2 greats.
Good to see a video showing some love to my favourite weapon! I could flare punch pyros but pretty inconsitently, and this video helped me work out where I was going wrong!
It's nice to see some representation. I almost exclusively use the degreaser, flare gun, and axtinguisher. If I'm on 2fort I'll use the scorch shot to get snipers to fuck off, and the neon annihilator to kill people in the water, but for every other instance I'm a puff and sting boy. I could definitely incorporate some of those fancier elements like airblasting enemies into the air, though.
I used the detonator for probably about a year when I started playing pyro. I tried other secondaries but rarely switched off of it because the movement was so fun (and I didn't want to use the other movement secondaries, mainly because I thought one was bad and we all know that the other is annoying and OP). Earlier this year though I started committing to learning how to effectively use other secondaries in order to improve as well as add a bit of variation to my gameplay, and now the flare gun is probably my favorite secondary. I used to rely heavily on the axtinguisher for burst damage, but the range with the flare gun allows me to consistently deal comparable damage outside of melee range, on top of an axtinguisher crit if they have enough health. Just like how the detonator's movement and pestering capabilities were addicting, the flare gun's burst damage makes it one of my favorite options for pyro. also the thermal thruster is not as nearly as bad as I thought, it's equally as fun to use and a fairly decent weapon.
For some reason, I forgot I can hold down my left mouse button quickly switch weapon. Thanks for your video. I can't wait to see/watch your Backburner Guide.
Honestly I love physically handicapping myself to such absurd loadouts. For pyro I only use the flare gun and my melee and nothing more (no flamethrower). I'm currently trying to master the flare gun's abilities and its safe to say that you have really helped me with this tutorial even if you don't see this comment.
i was playing 2fort and out of nowhere i started hitting some really sick shots and idk why lol, i shot a scout escaping from me, hit a soldier rocket jumping to my base, tons of fun lmao
Thank you for the video, this really helps me to understand how the gun works. I got it a few days ago and I thought if shoot up it will give me a loot crate 😅
You made a fantastic video on the dragon's fury and since this is your most recent video that shows me that you're active tf2 youtuber gonna sub 😀 thanks for the video!
I used to favor the detonator but after giving the flare gun a try i got so addicted to flare shotting people. I can have to try extra hard cuz I play exclusively with a controller but there is honestly no better feeling for me then when i erase a retreating scout from existence
As a new pyro main, i started playing with the flare while trying combo pyro. On the beggining, i couldn't hit shit, but as i began to practice, im hitting alot more flares, sometimes even putting out heavies if i have a corner to peak. In conclusion, when i got gud, i started to see the power of it and now its my main secondary, altough im trying to master the detonator now, i still prefer the dopamine burst of hitting a medic with a crit flare at longer ranges.

its crazy how the flaregun went from 1 of the most used to 1 of the least used simply because it got a little bit less free to use

I think one major reason it’s less popular in the dragons fury kinda has the same gimmick but more powerful since it’s a primary

airblast enemie in the air and then crit flare is too satisfying for me
Extremely high-quality video. Nice and clean editing, good information, and made me want to use the flare gun more often (I usually stick to shotty)
Don't stop Posting these videos please! You're one of the only few pyro tf2bers who is actually fun to watch ❤️
I love your content more than I logically should. It's the main reason I learned to play Pyro. I may be an amateur but this helps learning so much
